- My hardware fix for the Mazda 3 phantom touch / ghost touch infotainment issue.
Doing this may also resolve android auto issues, people who disabled the touch via software still have the ghost touch when using android auto.
Tool required - Philips screwdriver, 10mm socket
Some steps require a firm tug but please be careful.
This is actually more of a work around than a fix.

I did disable the touch screen just like he instructed and I no longer have the ghosting problem. Thanks for the help !

It’s confirmed that this also applies to the 2015 Mazda 3. My radio was going insane because of the touchscreen issue. I took the unit apart following this video, and disabled the touchscreen feature. Took me like 20 minutes from start to finish to take it apart and put it all back together. The metal bracket does not need to come off to reach the ribbon as well.

Thanks for the vid. I have to do this to my Mazda 3 to fix those phantom touches. It's funny how the new Mazda 3 model just came out and "it doesn't have a touch screen." Coincidence?!?! I THINK NOT!!!
I did this and successfully got rid of the phantom touches. Been great for 2 weeks. No issues.

My warranty was done in Aug 2019, but Mazda Canada has extended the warranty for this issue to 84 months. Sitting in the dealer now, getting a new screen at $0 cost

You can find part numbers by googling "Mazda parts", or you can call the dealership and ask for a part number

Mine went all crazy too. Open the glove box I believe, you will see that the ac knob is supposed to be attached to some shitty plastic wheel that goes off its track. Its not an easy fix at all. Cost me $50 and 2 mechanics to figure out. What a shitty design.

I bought a second-hand Mazda 3 2015 where the infotainment was added later on by the previous owner. It seems to be working well with the buttons but the digital touchscreen doesn't work, so I'm gonna try this solution. In the meantime, how do I use Bluetooth without the touchscreen functioning? I cannot find a way through the buttons. Also, I tried resetting the infotainment by pressing and holding for 10sec the Nav + Return + Mute buttons, but it doesn't do anything. Same when I tried different combinations of buttons for 10sec. Does anyone know why, and how I can reset the infotainment differently? Thank you.

Can you describe what the "Touch screen menu" issue was like? Mine is acting like its possessed and calls random people on bluetooth. Annoying and dangerous. Was this the problem you are rectifying?

What's the software fix to disable the touchscreen? Figure that may be easier and less risky damage wise to try first. Also, is this the root cause for the screen changing? Does bluetooth work fine after?
Google "infortaiment ghost touch". You may find you do not have to option of a software solution depending on the version you have installed.
Everything is still working on my car including bluetooth. I belive the touchscreen itself starts to fail and cause the "ghost touch", I've seen the same thing happen with ipads
Thanks for the reply! I did some research a few days after my post. Found i had 31.00.100. The dealership was only able to update to that. The ghosting wouldnt allow them to update any further. From my own online research Ive sinc learned the software fix does work for my version but all it does is it hides the ghosting but the signal is still being sent causing lag issues when switching at a stop.
I'm going to attempt to disconnect the touchscreen at some point. A comment I read online suggested I put electrical tape around the connector once disabled to ensure nothing touches it. I'll give it a go at some point. My one worry is snapping the clips holding the trim. I'll have to be careful
@@DemonBird2 Electrical tape is a good idea. Be careful pulling the dash pieces out but it felt sturdy enough to me that it shouldn't break

Any reason you didn't just replace the touch screen?
I felt that if I were to replace it I would eventually have the same problem again. The fix in the video is free and I never used the touch screen anyways.

@@felixdada4416 I don't know. I recommend figuring out the part number (maybe the dealer will give the number to you), then shopping online for it, or take it off a wrecked Mazda
gunnerwolf yeah I called a couple of junkyards, but the don't have it in stock and the dealer wants to sell me the whole unit... I'll have to search somewhere else.

I had used a similar video (ruclips.net/video/AeECvEHTKlE/видео.html) to do the ribbon cable fix, which really doesn't require separating the touch screen sensor from the LCD assembly. Finally though, the cracks in the sensor spread so badly that I couldn't make out parts of the screen, so I found a new TS sensor on EBAY for

I have a 2014 m3 , the rich screen is cracking at the corners! I do not use the screen as a rule. I assume the cold weather is the culprit! Do you leave the battery connected when exposing the electronics! Mazda will not cover the costs and are projecting the bill to be over $1000! OUCH! Very disappointed since the car has been babied from day one and I am the only driver! I may just leave it! Thanks and a very info video!

Facing the same issue, cracking at the corners. Maybe one could simply replace the first/outer plastic layer of the display? It seems to be independent of the electronics behind it.

Hi, I install the android auto program and the problem is that I disable the USB ports and other functions. You know how to remove programs and revert the system?
