Mazda 3 2014 Touchscreen Display Issue - Simple fix
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 11 май 2019
- There is a known issue with the Dashboard Display on Mazda 3 models from 2014 onwards. Due to a manufacturing error the touchscreen can become unreliable and sends ghost touches to the CMU causing the display to jump around like crazy. Unfortunately although Mazda know about the problem they will not fix it free if the car is out of warranty.
I was quoted in excess of £750 to supply and fit a replacement unit when my own display became unusable.
I managed to procure and self fit a working replacement unit via ebay from a scrap dealer and fitting it myself cost just £165.
A simpler and free fix is demonstrated in this video. Basically you totally disable the touch screen functionality by disconnecting the ribbon from the touch screen to the printed circuit board behind it. This means you can no longer control the display by the touch screen but full functionality is retained through the control knob mounted on the centre console next to the handbrake. In practice this is not a big deal as the touch screen is in any case automatically disabled when the car is moving for safety reasons. In practice all you lose is the touch screen functionality when the car is at a standstill. Спорт
Life saver! My car called my ex 6 times in a row so i started driving with a bluetooth speaker. Dealer wanted an ungodly amount for nothin in my opinion, took me 15 minutes. Many thanks 🙏🏽
Just followed your steps, this works on 2015 Mazda3s as well. Thank you
Thank you! Life saver. I absolutely hate this damn touch screen. Constantly skipping music and going to menus out of nowhere.
Thank you. Such a simple solution which dealers will charge a huge amount to fix by installing a replacement unit
Wow, I figured there was some way to disable the stupid touchscreen. Thank you for showing us how!
Just wanted to say thanks this thing has been driving me crazy for months but i didn’t want to upgrade due to loosing some features of the stock unit but mine is good to go now!
Delighted it worked for you Chris. Simple solution to a problem Mazda seem unwilling to deal with. Without the screen the car is almost unusable. The erratic jumping around while I was driving, drove me crazy.
i just fixed my ghost touch issue with by following this video. I was not able to disconnect the ribbon cable, so I just cut it. No more crazy screen issues. It took abiut 15 minutes from start to finish.
Great video. This helped me fix the ghost touch issue on my infotainment system. It was changing my radio station at every intersection.
For my car though, the ribbon cable had a white latch that you can pull loose with your finger nail so that the ribbon cable can just slide out without using pliers. I would suggest other people who are attempting this fix to check to see if they can loosen the white latch on the circuit board before using pliers.
Just did this to my 2017 Mazda 6...perfect. No more display issues and $2,400 savings.
Pleased it was a success
Thank you Martin. Clear, simple, precise. Much appreciated.
Worked on my 2015 Mazda3, just like you demonstrate here, and took no time at all. Many, many thanks!
Pleased to have been able to help. Such an easy fix to a huge and common problem that mazda insist on charging a fortune to remedy.
Hi Patrick.
There are other you tube videos which show this.
First, open the glove box and gently prise off the trim that runs across the dashboard, starting with the lip under the edge of the glove box. There are just plastic lugs holding it. Prise them carefully one at a time. I used a flat head screwdriver to release the first one. Then disconnect the lead which is at the back of the trim behind the hazard warning light button. Then use a socket wrench 10mm to unscrew the fixing bolt under the infotainment unit. The unit will then slide forward and you can disconnect the two leads shown in my video. This all takes less than 5 minutes. The trim may seem a bit stiff to start with but once you've eased off the first lug near the glove box the rest comes off fairly easily. I'm no mechanic but it is straightforward. I got a friend to hold the trim while I undid the connecting lead, but this was not essential. (I sat in the passenger seat to do this)
Thanks, whilst I have watched a USA video on this your explanation makes it sound easier and less daunting. 👍
Super easy. Barely an inconvenience! Thanks for posting this. I had worked the infotainment system last year to install the Android Auto/Apple Carplay upgrade, so this was a piece of cake. The only new part was taking the screen off of the computer. The whole job took maybe a half hour and only required a 10mm socket, a Philips head, and a pair of pliers.
The reach to get to the screen was so awkward that I don't know how anybody could miss having the functionality. Hard to believe how much of nuisance the touch screen was causing. Phantom presses, phantom phone calls, intermittent responsiveness problems with the command knob, the steering wheel controls, and voice commands. Never cause a problem with the volume controls... maybe because there's no touch screen commands for volume.
So glad I was able to help. The manic touch screen actually makes the whole car unusable. Truly awful that mazda themselves don't seem able to communicate to their dealers about it. The service department ignorance is breathtaking.
SeanHB, just a question... I am curious to know if you can use Android Auto without a working touch screen? Can you use the controller knob for full Android Auto functionality?
@@RJE48 Hey Robert, if you are still looking for an answer to this question, it's yes. By default, the Mazda Android Auto doesn't use the touchscreen (I believe Apple Carplay does), so you have to use the "joystick" to use AA even if you have a fully functioning touchscreen.
Thank you Martinc950! Fixed the issue in 20 minutes. Now working perfectly!
Thanks for the help. I pulled out the ribbon and snapped the plastic connecting the ribbon, but I guess it doesn't matter as I don't want to use the ribbon any more so haha. I suggest if anyone else is doing this to take out the ribbon exactly how you did it and not how I chose to do it. I tried to squeeze it to pull it out as opposed to pinching it out as it didn't feel right to me pinching it out. Turns out I was wrong. Ultimately, problem solved so thanks.
Thanks so much, was reading in a forum to disconnect the ribbon cable but they never specified which of the three.thanks for clarifying.
I had my vehicle parked for 6 months and when I restarted it it started going crazy just randomly pressing buttons I assumed it was frozen from winter but still acting up in plus 30 weather.
Seen many people say it's the knob I can tell you it's not the knob because if you disconnect the knob it still goes crazy and presses things randomly.
Glad it helped.
You can go a few steps further and replace the screen digitizer for about $20 US. I'm surprised no one is offering this as a reasonably priced remove and replace service. It is not as difficult as servicing a cellphone screen.
Guadalajara , Jalisco. Increíble seguí paso a paso y mi Mazda 2016, quedó de maravilla , 1 año sufriendo por ese detalle y al fin , alguien compartió una solución. Gracias !
Sorry I don't speak Spanish, but I think you are happy. Pleased to have been able to help.
I just finished fixing the ghost touch issue in my 2017 Mazda 6 Touring, this post (and the link below on how to remove the trim) were significantly helpful. However, once I had the infotainment screen completely removed from my car, I was unable to completely pry off the back cover to access the circuitry (might be specific to 2017 Mazda 6), so instead I just pulled the back cover as far as I could and then tore off the copper ribbon with some pliers (everything else in the screen and car still works perfectly fine).
I was paranoid about removing the trim and accidentally breaking it, but I later realized that it wasn’t hard at all (used a metal putty knife and just started at the ends and worked my way up carefully, just gotta take that first leap of faith and give it a try). The hardest part of the process was the 10mm bolt (removing it was difficult, but putting it back in was the single most difficult step of the entire process). This video (and the link below) both saved me from spending over $1000 to replace with a new infotainment system.

THANKS A LOT! Solution! With no COST ! Now I can listen my music back again
Çok güzel temiz bir anlatım olmuş. 👍 thank you so much
That will save me so much money. thank you
Saved me so much money!!
Nice!!! Been a month that erratic behavior fucked up my head
Pleased to have been able to help Gurgen. It drove me crazy too. Such a simple fix to a very fundamental problem.
Worked in Mazda 6 2017, thanks a lot
Thanks claudio. I'm pleased it helped you.
Omg thank-you! This is my car. I'm going to try this!!!
Thanks a lot
Thanks for sharing this video. My unit is behaving very strange changing channels, calling different numbers from my phone via bluetooth etc. and it must be related to a touch screen issue as far as I can tell. Will try your fix today. Btw. I also have super poor FM reception. Anything you have noticed on yours?
Hi Hans. This exactly the problem. My fix will resolve it.
👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻 очень помогло это видео! Большое спасибо 🙏🏻
Sorry, I can't translate Greek but I hope my solution worked for you
Hi, very good video, thanks save us tons of money.
Very pleased that it helped you. This is so simple but if your dealer works on it, they will charge a huge amount and just buy an expensive replacement. You can't use the touch screen while you are moving anyway, so retaining the display but disabling the faulty touch function is no great change in everyday use.
Thaks!! Really woks i do it, you save me 1000 US, gracias y saludos desde Tijuana
Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!!
Do you know how could I replace the display? Do you think it could accept a generic screen? Mine is broken but only the display
You could pick up one from a breaker. Doubt a generic screen would do it..
Hi Patrick, I have the same problem but in my Mazda 6 2017. I assume should be the same. Unit looks a little different...
Hi
Others have done this successfully on 2017 mazda 6 so should be OK. Good luck. Let me know how you get on.
@@martinc950 Thank you! I will
thanks o lot Martin you help me save 200 dollars
Thank you!!!!
No problem. Happy to have been able to help
@@martinc950 yesterday I stopped myself before I punched the screen lol. Wow was that annoying.
Does the warranty cover the cx3?
can you show how to get the infotainment out from the dashboard . i have a mazda 3 2.2 diesel 2014

i pulled the cable tab too hard and literally ripped it off 😂 but oh well the touch screens broken anyways
What’s the screw size at :59?
10mm
Has this worked for anyone with the infotainment system being in a boot loop?
Have you tried it?
is this working on mazda 2 g115 ?
Yes. It is an identical unit.
They sent out a extended warranty for it but it only covers the touch screen. My issue is that I'm stuck on bootloop and I've never even touched my screen let alone the mini computer
I just did this, and it worked perfectly. See this video for instructions on the removal of the head unit:

Advice to ANYONE working on the interior of any car ... get a trim panel removal set - essentially little plastic crowbars of various sizes and shapes ... it makes removing the trim and panels MUCH easier. This process total took me like an hour, and I was taking my sweet time, being very careful, and multitasking. This is very easy.
Does this affect ur touch screen option after doing all this??
You can continue to use the screen as normal with the console paddle. However touch control with your finger is disabled. But you cannot use the touch screen when the vehicle is moving in any case, so no great loss. And it doesn't get smeared with finger prints.
My display won't come on
Follow the video and make sure all leads are reconnected except the ribbon to the touch screen
