Even if he'd invaded Russia first after the ass-kicking he delivered at Narva--and it was a SERIOUS ass-kicking, it wouldn't be until the next year the Russians would even come close to ending the shortage of personal equipment he caused (the artillery took even longer to replace, since Charles had captured a considerable portion of everything they had), something even more devastating once you consider just how much of the Russian army he'd destroyed in that single battle--he'd still have been screwed in the end. I have listened to this song regularly for a long time now, and always loved this, hard to put it, just shere epicness of the character described and its portrayal, combined with of course amazing musical aspects framing it all beautifully. But I never really saw someone else's opinion on it, and literally this whole video I was like a child watching a friend see something super exciting and amazing for the first time while you already saw it yourself. Love your reactions, a great mix of more musical reaction, emotional/personal comments and just overall very chill and one of the best of these kinds of channels i know. Keep it up :D
He was tougher than he looks. He used to lead the soldiers into battle - in the front, not sitting back letting the soldiers do the dangerous job by themselves. That is also how he died, inspecting the siege of the the Fredriksten fortress outside Halden, Norway.
@@kingseb2252 Honestly, I think that if everyone who started a war was required to lead it from the front we'd see a lot fewer wars. Carolus was one of those leaders just built differently.
Refreshing to see someone start off their Sabaton rabbithole with every oldschool Sabaton fans favourite song, that being said you need to do the usual suspects too. "No bullets fly" animated story, "Night witches" animated story, "Christmas truce" that you already did, "Fields of verdun" official video, "Bismarck" official video, "Steel commanders" official video, and then we get to the live ones. "40:1" at Polish Woodstock, "Uprising" at Polish Woodstock, "Ghost division" at, you guessed it, Polish Woodstock, "En livstid i krig" you already did but from also The Great Tour live preformances of "Night witches" (yes again), "The red baron", "Carolus rex" (with guests so more drums = more epic), "Attack of the dead men" and "82nd all the way" you should probably do the official video, the cover by Amaranthe, and the live preformance they do together. There is also a bunch of Wacken live videos but they risk getting blocked because Wacken is a stinky no fun place for youtubers. A few oldies but goldies are "To hell and back", "Primo victoria", "Shiroyama", "Price of a mile", "Midway", "Blood of bannockburn", "Gott mit uns" and ofcourse who could forget the always unexpected arrival of the "Winged hussars". Now this is just if you want to have a better idea of what the song is about but checking out their chanel Sabaton History where you get a 15-20 minute video with the god of history Indy Neidell with his exquisite voice and way of speaking explain the theme of the song to you in a way that is more addicting than crack. Then you also have a short segment with a band member, usually Joakim or Pär (the 2 remaining original band members, but we have a few suprise appearances) talking about what led them to writing the song or what it means to them or just general goofing around. If you want to watch these episodes then personally id recommend you watch them before reacting to the song so you can have more of a clue of what the lyrics mean, but they do play snippets of the song during the history episodes so if you think that'd ruin it for you you can watch them after ofcourse. Thats about all that i have to say on the Sabaton topic but as this seems to be a fairly small channel and Sabaton reactions do really well i hope i atleast gave you something you can work with.
Some personal favourites would be Attero Dominatus, Great War, Night Witches, Defence of Moscow, Bizmark and To Hell and Back. That being said, they have a crazy amount of phenomenal songs, great video man🤘
Great reaction!🤘 I hope you realize what you've got into.... 😄 You might hear the army of Sabaton fans marching in.... 😁 I'd suggest "Bismarck" (official music video) next! Greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪🤘
Ah, Carolus Augustus, young military war king that led the small army of Sweden to trounce russia, poland, the danes and Norway. Died ingloriously by a random grape shot one late night. It was a siege and he was in the front trenches alone observing the defences, was found dead with a hole the size of a fist punched through the side of his temple. He was first believed to have been assassinated by one of his own men but today we know after opening his grave and checking with more modern autopsy techniques that it was cannon grape shot (which is basically a big shotgun type of ammunition for cannons).
Every song you click on it would not be mistake.Apart of great music and lyrics and over the top music videos, the story they are telling and the way they deliver it is amazing. One of the best music bands at this moment. I could recomend Seven pillars of whisdom (about Lawrence of Arabia), Great war ( about soldiers in WWI), Coat of Arms (Greek resistance to Italian occupation), Primo Victoria ( D-day), Final solution (holocaust)...like I said,no metter wich song You choose from their 20+ years of plaing,You will not be disapointed.
Sabaton is awesome! Great reaction! Definitely check out “Bismarck”, “Ghost Division”, “Uprising”, and “40 to 1” all live at Woodstock, also “The Last Stand” and “Night Witches” are favorites of mine as well. Their brand new song “The Christmas Truce” is phenomenal as well.
I recommend "Stormtroopers", "Lady of the dark", "Back in Control", or any song in the Carolus Rex playlist such as Ruina Imperii as they hit quite hard hard on beat except for Ruina Imperii, that hits hard emotionally
My favorite band, I'm glad you are listening to them I personally suggest Fields of Verdun, Poltova(English or Sweedish), End of the War to End All Wars, and Smoking Snakes among others
I would recommend Uprising, the official video, plus Uprising live in Poland Woodstock 2012. It’s about the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. I have NEVER heard a crowd sing that LOUD. Make it a double header.
Welcome into the rabbithole of Sabaton! I enjoy watching new ppl discovering their music and yes Carolus Rex is about the crowning of Karl XII who became king in the age of 15. When it comes to a playlist, #AndreDeAth has made a pretty good list for you already, but he seems to have forgotten most of the Carolus Rex, a concept album that deals with the rise and fall of Swedens empire and the 30 year war. Since you started there, I think I would like to ad; Lion from the North En livstid I krig live Gothenburg (caps on) Killing ground Poltava Long live the King Ruina Imperii Looking forward to follow your journey so liked and sub..
The political norm in Europe in those was the absolute monarchy. It meant that the monarch held absolute power without any parliament, even though the royal council (government) was still there. The position of the monarch as the leader of the realm was, not just in this system, seen as something that God had decided. In the Old testament, he choses and aid Saul and David and all of the other monarchs of Israel except for the corrupt ones. In the same way the monarchs and the state ruled by God's decree. It is actually the archbishop who is placing the crown on their heads so it's both a state ceremony and a religious one. In China, Japan, Egypt etc, the king or emperor was seen as a living god among mortal men. This is just Sabatons way of expressing the mentality of the absolute monarchy. Charles was actually both a very intelligent and very rational person. We got lot's of examples of his politics and his big interest in mathematics and science. But not interested in luxury. He was also a very good tactican. Unfortunatley, the war got in in the way.
Something that sets Sabaton apart is how well they use their songs to match the story, much like John Williams does with all he has composed for famous movies. For example, in Nightwitches they start of somewhat distant and low like that of the planes creeping their way to the target, it explodes into a massive song full of intensity like that of the bombs dropped, and then it goes back to a fade as the planes drift away to silence. They do this with so many of their songs and Carolus Rex is no exception. Following those lines, please react to an older, and sadly much overlooked song, called Unbreakable. It's about the concept of guerrilla warfare in general, the element of surprise, no mercy, relentless attack until your enemy is erased. Somehow they were able to still capture that mentality through sound. Starting subtle and calculated, hiding until the moment to strike is right, and turning into a fuckn monster, Unleashing hell on the battlefield and their enemies. Please check and react!!!!
I learnt about Charles XII of Sweden when I was working in Estonia as he was for for Estonia a disaster as he ended up losing Estonia to the Russians who held onto it until the Russian Revolution two hundred years later. I learnt about him as losing the Great Northern War which effectively dismantled the Swedish Empire and transferring power to Russia under Peter I He was also the last absolutist monarch at least until Gustav III.
Your first time listening to Sabaton was this? Nice work! You've certainly gotten several good video reactions in so far, keep up the good work! First time TankTheTech, another music reaction guy, listened to Sabaton, he took his hat off as well to headbang, his first one was Bismarck. xD
I'm just catching up on your Sabaton reactions and I would highly recommend To Hell And Back. It's tells the story of Audie Murphy - the most decorated soldier in US military history and his post-war struggle with PTSD or shell-shock as it was known then. Another great suggestion would be Ghost Division about Erwin Rommel's 7th Armored Panzer division who over the course of a single night penetrated more than 200km into the enemy lines, taking the bodies of their own fallen comrades in an act of blitzkrieg that was so intense and fast German high command had no idea of their whereabouts and forevermore the 7th Armored would strike fear into the hearts of their enemies with the reputation of being The Ghost Division.
So a couple of suggestions - A higher call (the animated story version), a good song and emotional video. - Night witches (the animated story version). - Bismarck (for being a good song but also for the video production value). - Defence of Moscow.
Hi JoJo, greetings from the Netherlands. I really enjoyed your reaction. Sabaton is great. If you like experiencing music this way, I might have an interesting recommendation for you. Try listening to Nightwish! They are a symphonic metal band from Finland and they’re top notch in this genre. Their singer is the Dutch Floor Jansen. She has one of the best female voices in metal today. Fun fact; she's married to Sabaton's drummer. Nightwish is very diverse, none of their songs are alike. There are epic and melodic songs, like the one I’m recommending now, but they can also go really heavy on you and the next song could be very celtic sounding or even jazzy. Their music is exceptionally well composed and arranged. The lyrics are very powerful and poetic. Nightwish is best appreciated LIVE. Give the song ‘Ghost Love Score’ a try. It was recorded at Wacken 2013, in front of 82 000 people. You might be surprised. ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html But be warned… a reaction will probably trigger the Nightwish fans to come knocking…😊
@@JoJoLewis That would be wonderful. I'm sure you're going to enjoy listening to them. Nightwish is quite a rabbit hole, but a magical one. I'm looking forward to your reaction. Take care!
Please react to Bismarck next. The video alone will blow your mind, and the song is as bad ass as this one. Also please react to No Bullets Fly (Animated video), the story will hit you right in the feels and you will not regret watching the video. And a little tip, don't forget to put closed captions on the videos without subs, and never ever make the mistake to stop a Sabaton video until it's done, there is almost always something you don't want to miss at the end.
He literally showed up to his cronation with the crown already on his head proclaiming that the church had no say in the matter. In his mind he had been chosen by god himself to fight and expand for Sweden. He lead his fighters into war and fought his enemies himself in every battle. He was crowned at 15 years old and never saw any use in getting married. Apparently in his first battle once he heard the gunshots of the enemies approaching it is said that he calmy proclaimed "This shall henceforth become my music". To me he will always be a legend.
Charles was fifteen years old when he was to be crowned king of Sweden. But outside the Church he said no, I aint getting crowned by the church. So he took the crown, waltzed into the church, up to the altar. There, in front of all the important people of Sweden, he disregared all tradition of coronation and placed the crown on his own head. Declaring himself King. From there on he ruled Sweden from the battlefield. Fighting on the frontlines, until his death, 36 years old.
Carolus Rex is latin for King Charles. The only king in Sweden that said that he was crowned by God, and not by the church. If you have not, check out "The lion from the north" with Sabaton. About another Swedish king that had some balls. Love your reactions, keep up the good work. Greetings from northern Sweden :)
As for songs: Uprising, 40:1, Night witches and No bullets fly (both animated versions), 82nd all the way, To hell and back, Bismarck, Christmas truce, En livstid i krig (live from Gothenburg - use the subtitles!), in the name of God, Primo Victoria, The lion from the North (similar to Carolus Rex, except it's about a different Swedish king), The red baron. Welcome to the world of Sabaton! They are a Swedish group that has been playing since 1999. They celebrated their 20 years anniversary by playing at both stages at Wacken 2019 simultaneously, with old team members as well! The same year as Wacken celebrated 30 years, if I'm not mistaken. You will learn a lot. Like for instance this song! Highly recommend it! I would also recommend you to always watch their videos to the very end. I've seen a few do the mistake of stopping it too early, and they've missed more things that was still to come. Would be a shame if you did. If you want some tips on songs to get you started: christmas truce, no bullets fly (animated version videi), Night witches (animated version video), Swedish pagans, 82nd all the way, great War... The list is long!! Welcome to your journey on discovering Sabaton!!
Yes it was a real person, king Charles the 12th. Im not a history buff so despite actually being swedish I dont know If he was the one who did it or if he was the one who inherited it but it was duing "Stormaktstiden" or "The great era" when Sweden owned about half of europe and a part of Russia. It eventually lead to revolt and Charles suffered heavy casualties in fighting the russians and the empire crumbled. But yea, he was a pretty extraordinary dude, regardless of what one thinks of his values or actions. He, unlike almost any other king, actually lead his own troops on the battlefield. No matter if you agree with him, thats a pretty badass thing to do. Check out 40:1, its one of the most badass war stories ever and a fantastic song.

This is about the " Devine Right" of kings. He had the utter solid unwavering belief that HE was doing God's Will. Anything he said was from God's mouth. So he MUST be obeyed as God. HIS word was God's word. Question me and die. Right there, that's it.

@@JoJoLewis I'll be there
I have listened to this song regularly for a long time now, and always loved this, hard to put it, just shere epicness of the character described and its portrayal, combined with of course amazing musical aspects framing it all beautifully.
Just as Alexander the great, no one could question his devotion. Karl lead by example.
And there is speculation that he was fragged by one of his own men.
@@ieuanhunt552 that's been disproven he was killed by a Norwegian soldier
@@SanxBile yes one of the last great kings to lead his men into battle long live carolus!
@@kingseb2252 Honestly, I think that if everyone who started a war was required to lead it from the front we'd see a lot fewer wars. Carolus was one of those leaders just built differently.
Welcome to my Metal World for more then 40 years . i´m 53 years old and love this music
@@JoJoLewis i just hope you have fun with this band, at the end of the day thats whats it all about
Love your energy dawg
Give their newest music video "Christmas truce" a reaction! Best Carol you'll ever hear, bring tissue! Really enjoying your reaction here.
Just a tip 😊
Nice reaction, I would recommend wolfpack, the last battle, steel commander and the lost battalion.
Some personal favourites would be Attero Dominatus, Great War, Night Witches, Defence of Moscow, Bizmark and To Hell and Back. That being said, they have a crazy amount of phenomenal songs, great video man🤘
Greetings from Sweden! This is one of my favorite Sabaton songs! Glad you liked it bro! :)
Great reaction!🤘 I hope you realize what you've got into.... 😄 You might hear the army of Sabaton fans marching in.... 😁 I'd suggest "Bismarck" (official music video) next! Greetings from Sweden! 🇸🇪🤘
This song is about a real alpha male like no other. He is also called the God King.
Ghost Division Live at Woodstock. You see how bad ass they look and sound live🤟💪
Glad you enjoyed it mate, and welcome to the club.
Honestly loving these bro!
Sabatons don't have "fans", they have an army.
It made me so happy when he realized how much a bar the line "crowned by God, not by the church" is.
Great work JoJo! You're doing awesome.
Maybe react to some TYR!
My favorite band, I'm glad you are listening to them
I personally suggest Fields of Verdun, Poltova(English or Sweedish), End of the War to End All Wars, and Smoking Snakes among others
3:03 let’s gooo I am thankful for long hair😂
I would recommend Uprising, the official video, plus Uprising live in Poland Woodstock 2012. It’s about the Warsaw Uprising in 1944. I have NEVER heard a crowd sing that LOUD. Make it a double header.
Welcome into the rabbithole of Sabaton!
I enjoy watching new ppl discovering their music and yes Carolus Rex is about the crowning of Karl XII who became king in the age of 15. When it comes to a playlist, #AndreDeAth has made a pretty good list for you already, but he seems to have forgotten most of the Carolus Rex, a concept album that deals with the rise and fall of Swedens empire and the 30 year war. Since you started there, I think I would like to ad;
Lion from the North
En livstid I krig live Gothenburg (caps on)
Killing ground
Poltava
Long live the King
Ruina Imperii
Looking forward to follow your journey so liked and sub..
Great reaction!
You Shirt is awesome dude!
Hahaha..thanks for good reaction..my next move May be a wig for 10 sec of headbanging..🤣
HAHAHA I really appreciate the compliment! Hey we gotta do what we gotta do to headbang out here!
You haven't heard anything like this. Sabaton is epic!
I learnt about Charles XII of Sweden
when I was working in Estonia
as he was for for Estonia a disaster
as he ended up losing Estonia to the Russians
who held onto it until the Russian Revolution
two hundred years later.
I learnt about him as losing the Great Northern War
which effectively dismantled the Swedish Empire
and transferring power to Russia under Peter I
He was also the last absolutist monarch at least until Gustav III.
En Livstid I Krig live in Gothenburg is a must do now... It has now become mandatory
Headbanging like you’ve never done anything else 🤘
Your first time listening to Sabaton was this? Nice work! You've certainly gotten several good video reactions in so far, keep up the good work!
First time TankTheTech, another music reaction guy, listened to Sabaton, he took his hat off as well to headbang, his first one was Bismarck. xD
If you want to know more history : ruclips.net/user/SabatonHistory
Lion from the North....about another king ....also hits hard
Ghost Division live at Woodstock 2012 with Sabaton 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
So a couple of suggestions
- A higher call (the animated story version), a good song and emotional video.
- Night witches (the animated story version).
- Bismarck (for being a good song but also for the video production value).
- Defence of Moscow.
@@JoJoLewis Great :)
Remember to never cut their vides short. They often add bits and pieces worth seeing.
What is higher call? :P
@@The_GuyWhoNeverUploadsAnything Haha! I meant “No bullets fly”. “A higher call” is the book about the life of the pilots in that song 😆
@@JoJoLewis I meant No bullets fly, not A higher call, which btw is a really good book 😉
You might be surprised. ruclips.net/video/JYjIlHWBAVo/видео.html
But be warned… a reaction will probably trigger the Nightwish fans to come knocking…😊
@@JoJoLewis Thank you very much Sir, you have earned yourself a subscriber. Keep it up!
Keeping in mind Charles XII was a teenager when he was crowned king
Well basically all of them. You just can't go wrong with Sabaton.
@@JoJoLewis they've been active since early 2000s so they have tons of songs to listen to. These will get you started at least. And the best part is that they don't do copyright claims as long as the video is from their own channel. Also check out Sabaton History channel for more on the songs and the history behind them. Enjoy and rock on!
@@JoJoLewis both their reccord lable and Sabaton themselves actually like when people review them and talk about them. But others, like live shows from wacken can be copyright claimed because its the property of wacken. But those can usually also be found on Sabatons own channel. If you're lucky, you can get invited to one of their shows as a handful of rewivers already have. Sabaton are chill.
I love how you pause to add comments instead of what most reactors do (sitting there and listening to the song).
2:55 You understood the assignment, a true carolean :P
@@JoJoLewis fking A. It just happened to be your first headbang would be to a Swedish band doing a song about king and the Swedish Empire.

My guy we can make a metalhead of you yet glad you enjoyed
Im slowly makng my way to becoming a Metalhead!
Sabaton's song are all based on real historical war events. I recommend you to also check out their other channel, Sabaton history, where they tell the story and history behind the songs.
@@JoJoLewis Awesome! Just ask for more along the way, and you'll get more tips! Glad to see you like them. 👍
Sabaton = Epicness!! ))
I completely agree!

i suggest you listen to their song "last dying breath" next. specifically this fanmade video, as it's video section is taken from a movie that covers the events of what happens in the song, and is much better than the "official" which is only a simple lyric video. (lyrics are in the fanmade thing too, and the part spoken in yugoslav language are translated to english)
i guess you see why the specific sub-genere of metal that Sabaton plays is called "Power Metal".
