The "Bismarck" , and his sister ship "Tirpitz", were the 2 largest and most powerful battleships ever built in Europe and they were the pride of the kriegsmarine (Germany's military navy) during Ww2. The "Bismarck" set sail in May 1941 to reach the Atlantic and destroy merchant convoys, but he was intercepted by the British and during a brief fight, destroyed the former flagship of the British fleet and pride of the Royal Navy, the worldwide famous battlecruiser "Hood", by penetrating her armor and detonating her aft main ammunition magazine and killing all 1900 members of her crew except for 3 men, and heavily damaged the battleship "Prince of Wales". This enraged the prime minister Winston Churcil who ordered all his ships in the Atlantic to abandon their operations and destroy the Bismarck. In total more than 40 ships participated to the hunt, making it the biggest naval hunt in history. Meanwhile Bismarck, who had received a hit during the first battle, was leaking fuel and was trying to reach the French port of Saint Nazaire, in occupied France, for repair. After 6 days of playing cat and mouse with the British, Bismarck was attacked by airplanes launched from the aircraft carrier "Ark Royal" and hit by a torpedo in the stern, which jammed his rudders during evasive manuvers, meaning that he was forced to sail in circles, just a few miles away from reaching air cover. In the end battleships "King George V" and "Rodney", along side the heavy cruisers "Norfolk" and "Dorsedshire" fought the already doomed battleship and, during the following 90 minutes completely destroyed It. However, despite having all his guns destroyed, and having received more than 400 hits (out of the 2800 shells that the British had fired at her) his armor was still intact and the ship was still afloat. So the british launched another 4 torpedoes and he disappeared beneath the waves. After inspection of the wreck however it had been discovered that the torpedoes did no significant damage thanks to the battleship's excellent armor, and that Bismarck had been scuttled by his crew. Of the 2200 men that served on her, only 114 survived. The old man seen in the video is the son of the last survivor, who died in 2018, 1 year before this song was released.

Bismarck. Largest ship to ever sail the Atlantic in WWII. The only ship to be called a he. As thus, he is the King of the Ocean. Though he may be king, he doesn't rule the seas. That would be Empress of the seas, Yamato. And her sister ship Mushashi. The Bismarck under Hitler's plans was to wait for Heavy Cruiser Admiral Hipper, Battleship Scharnhorst, Battleship Gneisenau and Batleship Tirpitz(Bismarck's sister ship but wasn't fully operational yet) along side Heavy Cruiser Prinz Eugen. Once they were all together, They were to break out from the British blockade and raid the Atlantic supply lines that was keeping Britain in the fight. But. The Admirals decided that Hitler's plan wouldn't work as there would be too many ships. And they'd be found by the British right away. So they decided to go with their own plan. Bismarck & Prinz Eugen would run the gauntlet alone. On May 24 1941, between the Danish colony of Greenland and the newly independent Iceland. The Bismarck & Prinz Eugen ran into two ships. The British ships Battlecruiser Hood & Heavy Cruiser Prince of wales. The British Pride of the Fleet... Prince of wales and Hood opened fire on Bismarck and Eugen. But for 15 minutes Bismarck & Eugen didn't return fire. Making many British sailors question if they were even part of the German navy despite the big Swastika painted over the bow and German flags. Then, after 15 minutes of mostly ineffective bombardment from the Hood & Prince of wales. Bismarck open fire. His first Salvo scoring a direct hit in 1 of the AA mounts setting off it's magazine which cause a small explosion. Then Bismarck fired again. With the second salvo, Bismarck got the perfect shot. Hitting the main ammunition storage on the Hood. Causing a massive explosion that tore the ship in two down the center. Within 3 minutes, the Hood was gone from the surface. Bismarck turned his guns to the Prince of Wales which Prinz Eugen had been battering. The Prinz of Wales managed to save 3 of Hoods crew before limping away to Britain. Bismarck had proven the British fears right. But Bismarck suffered some damage in the fight. The main firing radar was disabled(By his own guns) and most importantly his fuel was running low from a hit that cause a fuel leak when the fuel tanks were damaged. The decision was made the Prinz Eugen would continue into the Atlantic and Bismarck would head to France for repairs. When Prime minister Weston Churchill hear of the battle. He gave out the order. Sink the Bismarck! Every ship Britain had was to go and hunt him down. Being from the navy himself, Churchill couldn't let the loss of the British navy's pride go unanswered. A few days later. Two Heavy Cruisers found the Bismarck. They reported his position and stayed out of his range. Britain was in luck. Bismarck was close enough that the Air Force could help. But they never found him. The Aircraft Carrier Ark Royal did however. With it's few outdated Swordfish torpedo bombers. She threw all the bombers she had at the Bismarck. Some found British ships and torpedoed them before the found out they were friendlies. But some did find the Bismarck. But there was only a handful of bombers. And they were going against the Bismarck and he had the most advanced and powerful Anti-Aircraft defenses of any ship in the war. Luckily for them, they were too slow for Bismarck's computer radar to pick them up. The Bismarck's crew had to aim the guns manually. In the end they only got 1 torpedo hit on Bismarck. Again, they were lucky. It hit the Bismarck's exposed rudder, forcing him to turn around towards to on coming British fleet. If they couldn't fix it, they'd face the world biggest navy alone. On May 27th, Bismarck joined in a duel with Ark Royal(Was out of range but her planes were fighting), 2 Battleships, 2 Heavy Cruisers, 1 Light Cruiser, 6 British Destroyers and 1 Polish Destroyer. With the damaged Bismarck had taken, he was constantly turning, making it almost impossible to shoot at any target accurately. Scoring around 400 hits out of the 2800 fired at Bismarck, over 700 of which were at point blank range since Bismarck's guns were out of the fight. Bismarck still wouldn't sink or surrender. The crew chose to sink their own ship and go down with him rather than let the British sink their Pride of the Fleet. The Bismarck was finally sunk. Though Bismarck didn't do much damage, he was avenged by the Luftwaffe sinking 1 of the retreating Destroyers the next day. This took me over an hour to write. You can probably tell where I lost the enthusiasm I started with. It's a very cold Canadian morning and instead of going to sleep at 4am I decided this was more important than sleep. To word that's cut off at the end is "Atlantic"

Jesus !!! A Canadian wheraboo. So much shit in one long post, you REALLY should have gone to bed instead. Bismarck's crew actually scuttled a 51000 ton mountain of sinking, flaming scrap metal. All guns silenced, her superstructure devastated, her main armour belt broken in several places along her port side, her command staff obliterated, internally aflame from end to end, her stern and port gunwales already underwater and hundreds of her crew already in the water behind her... utterly ripped apart by superior ships of the Royal Navy..... All the scuttling did was to sink her a few minutes earlier than was already happening. In the world of boxing the crew's scuttling efforts are what is known as "throwing in the towel", submission of a boxer when he has had the shit punched out of him by a more powerful opponent, and only a fool would say, "the loser wasn't beaten, he gave in before he was annihilated.", when the truth is the loser had his arse handed to him on a plate.

My father is a notorious history buff and even though he's not doing well mentally these days, I asked my mom to show him the Bismarck music video. After he saw it, his first response was "Scary."
@@JoJoLewis Thanks for your kind words for my dad. A lot of things about this story are scary but I have a few ideas. One, the German sailor having his ship go down and ending up in the ocean, being one of only a very few survivors. Second, the ship itself. Sabaton calls it "a beast made of steel" and it was a source of terror to the Allied fleets. Just watching the video, you see the old German sailor look out and barely see the outline of the ship materializing out of the mist. It's at least three times the size of that dinky fishing trawler the band is playing on. I'd say that's pretty scary. On another note, I think it's crazy watching the band meet up with the old sailor. Sabaton are sort of these colorful larger-than-life characters and they walk in on the old man who's like a relic of an older generation that they're not part of, but they're there to tell the story all the same. I believe the old man either was, or was related to, a survivor of the Bismarck.

100% confirmed by now is that the allied never sunk the Bismarck, but because a torpedo hit the rodder the ship could only go in circles so the crew placed explosives on the inside to sink it so the n germany flagship would not fall into the enemy hands. They found all and checked all torpedo walls and they were all intact, so no torpedo caused any damage that could have sunk Bismarck
So the torpedo that hit the rudder caused the ship to only move in circles, then the crew scuttled it......so the torpedo fired by the British before the battle of the Atlantic caused enough damage to the ships weak point to get the crew to scuttle the ship.....so a torpedo fired by the British which caused damage to the ship eventually led it to be sunk by the crew...........
Why would anybody willingly sink their own ship and wait to slowly die in the water? That sounds like a conspiracy to me because the Nazis were unable to accept their pride of the navy being sunk on it's first mission
They actually scuttled a 51000 ton mountain of sinking, flaming scrap metal. All guns silenced, her superstructure devastated, her main armour belt broken in several places along her port side, her command staff obliterated, internally aflame from end to end, her stern and port gunwales already underwater and hundreds of her crew already in the water behind her.... So this is also super late but I want to tell you a super cool fun fact that you may have already seen but don't know the context to. Bismarck was one of the ONLY ships in the histories of Navies to be referred to as a He instead of a She. Typically ships are referred to as She however Bismarck was considered to be so powerful and large they felt that it wouldn't be right to call the ship a She as He was in a league of his own when put up against almost any other floating battleship of the day.
Sorry to ruin the doing a performance on the ocean idea The sea looks like the Baltic Sea which has very little swell except when there are weather systems over the Baltic in winter. The Atlantic, where the Bismarck went down, has a lot more swell even in calm days
A more sad song is The Price of a Mile and it's about the battle of Passchendaele in 1917 were 600 000 men died for nothing, just mud and blood. I would recommend a fan made video along the song: ruclips.net/video/Vao7NCjEftY/видео.html

This video is absolutely f*ing insane. Wargaming just threw so much money at them to create an amazing music video about one of the biggest ship hunts in history. So much damage dished out to the Bismarck, it's just... massive. For some reason English speakers like to call the Bismarck male, even when every other ship is general female, even the Prince of Wales. Meanwhile here in Germany, the Bismarck is female, like every other ship. Random facts. Apart from the Bismarck's captain Ernst Lindemann, he made it a standing order at the time to call Bismarck a "he". Random music recommendation: Blind Guardian - Bard's Song and Valhalla from Wacken.
Don't worry yourself about English speakers.... 99% of us refer to ships using a female pronoun, its only a small number of vacuous younger kids who are programmed by the internet who argue for the male pronoun. Bismarck is a "she".
@@walterkronkitesleftshoe6684 After that post I looked into it and on board the Bismarck it was also a "he". Captain Ernst Lindemann made it a standing order.
@@HereticalKitsune I'm absolutely aware of the situation with regard to Ernst Lindemann's decree that the crew should refer to Bismarck using the masculine pronoun. But the fact that none of us are Bismarck crewmen, and we're talking in English for which I can vouch we traditionally use the feminine, confirms we're absolutely correct in using "she". All the best.

I don't know if this has been mentioned, but their ship's name "Primo Victoria" is also the title track of the album of the same name about the D-Day landings.
I just absolutely love the line „ Bound by Iron and blood“ as it’s a line Said by otto von Bismarck who this ship is named after, and the main founder of the Weimar Republic, the Germany, hitler destroyed to create Nazi germany. So much controversy and depth hidden with in it.
Also chack out cliffs of gallipoli, defence of moscow and atero dominatus
Just found your channel and am absolutely loving your Sabaton reactions and i'm here to stay, would like to see your reaction to Brothers of Metal and Amon Amarth, both Swedish and absolutely amazing. Great content dude, keep it up!
I have the feeling you'll enjoy the Bard's Song from Blind Guardian. Look for the live Wacken version.
@@JoJoLewis I plan on becoming a historian. Doing this helps me far more than it could possibly help you.
Though it is fun. And I currently can't think of anything you can do other than more Sabaton so I can keep practicing!
Hi I love Sabaton and I found your channel few days ago. Your reactions are absolutely underrated. You should react to Sabaton's Last Dying Breath
song. If you want I can explain what's it about, but I know you get a lot of these comments so I chose it to be as quick as it can. There are a bunch more amazing sabaton song but you already get comments to react to it. Keep It Up
YO I AM SO SORRY FOR NOT RESPONDING I ONLY JUST SAW THIS COMMENT
One of our neighbors who died years ago was a survivor of the Bismarck he was pretty miserable the rest of his days. Poor soul.😢
I see you like the work of Mr. Floor Jansen. :) Sabaton's drummer, Hannes van Dahl is married to Floor.
To see what kind of following Sabaton has, please watch En Livstid I Krig (A Lifetime Of War) live in Gotheburg. It's in Swedish, but has English captions. Your mind will be blown, again. :)
Thank you for reaction..have to say you got to be my fav reactor, bring in so much personal fellings and enthusiasm..this is a Great video..have good bro..and an early... Merry Christmas..)
Thank you so much!!! I am so sorry it took me so long to see this! I hope your christmas was good!!!! Is there any sabaton song Ive not yet done that you would like to see?

Again, as a drummer who like Nightwish, you need to watch Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios) REMASTER
@@JoJoLewis Drummer Kai Hahto, of Wintersun, is the "new", since 2014, drummer of Nightwish.
Basist Jukka Koskinen, of Wintersun, is Nightwish basist (2021) covering for Marko since Marko took a timeout from the music industry in january 2021.
Hello mate! Really good reaction's from you 👍🤘
First things first, you really need to check out The Royal Gard, Sabatons tribute song to the swedish Royal Gards that have been in active service for 500 years (1621- still counting)
And did you know that Sabaton have there own history Chanel on RUclips? They talks about all the songs the made and explains the history around them.
Keep up the good work!!
To keep up your Sabaton journey, check out "Seven Pillars of Wisdom"
@jojo Lewis it’s the battle of the Atlantic mate
Great that you like Sabaton 🤘It's my favorite band. You should definitely listen and watch another Swedish band. Avatar, recommends watching their live gig from Polandrock 2019 with the song Bloody Angel.
Then we also have Majestica, it's the guitarist from Sabaton's own band. There I recommend Above the sky and Metal United
@@JoJoLewis Yes! I highly recommend Majestica! They actually released a Christmas album last year, "A Christmas Carol" (based on the actual story by Charles Dickens). "Ghost of Marley", "Ghost of Christmas past" and their newly released bonus tracks to that same album, "This Christmas" and "Glory of Christmas". I also recommend "Above the sky". (In this music video I think they have a former Helloween drummer).

@@JoJoLewis its the (in my opinion) emotionalst song of sabaton closed up from gliffs of gallipoli. You definetly need to check them out they are deep, dark and nightmare stuff if you realise all what sabaton do is telling real history from real events and people that really happened.
G'day Sir! I've seen some of your sabaton videos and I've loved them all, one I do wanna recommend is "A Carolean's Prayer". I have a good feeling you'll enjoy that one :)
Fellow Sabaton fans will know of this channel, but this particular video has lyrics for both the English & Swedish parts ^^ ruclips.net/video/oPHKn1JYHcA/видео.html
@@JoJoLewis Happy to hear it ^^ no rush tho as I'm sure you've got a decently long list already :)
In the world of boxing the crew's scuttling efforts are what is known as "throwing in the towel", submission of a boxer when he has been punched senseless by a more powerful opponent, and only a fool would say, "the loser wasn't beaten, he gave in before he was annihilated.", when the truth is the loser had his arse handed to him on a plate.
Add Great war to the list. 👊
normally, this is the first song to get in touch with the band ;) anyway, awesome Song and Video
The final word is Atlantic. Bismarck was part of the Battle of the Atlantic.
As another song suggestion:The last battle.
The end says "In the battle of the Atlantic"
you NEED to react to The Hu - Wolf Totem
The Voice is Winston Churchill, the British Prime Minister in WW2
Sorry to ruin the doing a performance on the ocean idea
The sea looks like the Baltic Sea which has very little swell
except when there are weather systems over the Baltic in winter.
The Atlantic, where the Bismarck went down,
has a lot more swell even in calm days

It was the Royal Navy, right?
If you love drums so much check out WIntersun - Sons of Winter and Stars Live at the Sonic Pump Studio (Remastered). Best band to ever exist.

ohhhh thank you!
A more sad song is The Price of a Mile and it's about the battle of Passchendaele in 1917 were 600 000 men died for nothing, just mud and blood.
I would recommend a fan made video along the song: ruclips.net/video/Vao7NCjEftY/видео.html
@@JoJoLewis in the fan made video there are scenes from Russian film about the Batlle of Passchendaele and song in the background

Also about the "bad news", you don't have to post everyday. We are all humans and sometimes, we need a break when it gets too tough. Whatever it is, you'll get through it. Get well friend.
Saboton does not and will not glorify war.......yet tells history about battles that have taken place
Battle of the Atlantic I believe..
BTW, dome trek i would recomend is something like "gallipoli". Something for the real ones...

Bismarck one of best german battleships (for me)
@@JoJoLewis yes please, I also recommend you watch the 2 episodes (10 minutes each) that "Baz battles" had done on the bismarck, they are excellent and very well illustrated to help you visualize what exactly occurred, otherwise you could watch the "extra history" short serie on Bismarck. Hi
@@JoJoLewis Most of the interesting bits have already been said, I am a bit too late, so all I can do is throwing random tidbits around.
@@walterkronkitesleftshoe6684 Same in German, ships tend to use feminine pronouns as well.
