- This year marks 5 years since I turbocharged my 1992 BMW E34 525i. It features a nearly stock M50b25 making 560WHP and 586 Wtq. I get asked often for an update on this car and how reliable it has been since turbocharging it. So today we are going to run through the reliability, maintenance costs, and overall experience with this turbo E34 during these 5 years of fun. I'll give you a hint, its a lot easier to own than you'd think!!
This car looks like you just move it out of the driveway every so often. 500hp and how old are the tires? Yeah you definitely don’t “shred” hahahahaha sick video and beautiful car.
No way you think that😭 I drive this thing 4-5 times a week and it sees 6500rpm and 26 psi every single drive
You should just get a dssr .... (dual shear slector rod) it would clean up thoes shifts. I went with a grageistsic on my turbo s52 e39.
@@jasonschreiber6458 have one in my blue car, love it. Definitely on list
So Awesome!! I have Loved the E34 platform forever! I got a Euro Spec 535i5 years ago which tragically got totaled, and was able to replace it with a high mileage '93 525iA. It's been sitting for years now, but I really wanna restore, manual swap, and turbo it!... Question is, should I go ahead and do the M50B30 stroker swap, since the current motor has over 300K on it?
Really up to you! M50b25 as seen here is good for a lot of power. Stroker engine will just take less boost to make the same power. At 300k its perfect candidate for a send it!
Man’s blessed yet another Monday morning!
Stay up till 2am every sunday to get these videos ready for Monday🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Good maintenance videos on the way changing gaskets, seals, and services. Things that we all need to know and do but we tend to leave alone because they are not mayor until they really break. The key to a healthy life, maintenance. 0 leaks is the goal. Good content, not everyone is an expert and learning is good. Great Day Josh!
Well said Juan!! Thank you!
Just bought a new Vanos M50 head for my upcoming e34t turbo build. Awesome channel keep pushing!
Thank you man!!!!
Those OZ Mito's look great. What are your wheel sizes and offsets. Also what are your tire sizes and suspension mods. The stance is absolutely perfect
Geez its been a while, off memory 17x8.5 et 10ish front with 235/40 17 and rear is 17x9.5 et 20ish with 255/40
I’m really impressed with your e34. Great stuff man
Sell it to me pls hahaha
Never for sale😏
Man I can't wait to boost my touring. I wanted to S52 swap but boost would be more gratifying
Ive done both. Definitely more gratifying!!
Living proof of why m50 is god motor, n why ur 2jz aint it
Yesssss!!
Just subbed! This video is so reassuring, been getting ready to have my e36 boosted and was going to do a very similar setup. Just studs, gasket, 6262 and the basics. Thanks for the content man!!
Absolutely!! Thank you for watching and subbing!!!
What a good looking build. Very nice and thanks for the update.
Thanks for watching man🙌🏼
There are turbo kits for this engine on the internet, idk how well it fits or anything but I’ve seen a uk company that makes them and they say that it’s good for like 400+ hp and it was like 3k €
I think ive seen that kit too, no idea on the parts used or quality of everything
Awesome build 👍
Which would be a better candidate for a turbo build, m50 with vanos or without?
Non vanos has stronger rods, and dual valve springs so technically that, but both are super good
Nice project. What is 60-130mp/h or 100-200km/h?
Sub 3 seconds
How many miles have u put on it in the 5 years
Not really sure. I dont keep track of
Vanos still inoperable in the tune?
Yes Lol
What ignition coils do you use?
Stock
This is one of my favorite cars in your collection. It’s got great style. Tons of power. Driver quality. I need an e34 project soon. Have been doing so many e46’s since they’re so cheap and plentiful but want something a lil different next. E34 may be the ticket
Thanks man!!! Its definitely one of the most special cars I have. I think e34 is always the ticket😏
Literally by chance I just watched you're original breakdown video of this car earlier this morning. I would love a turbo M50 E36 project once my E28 is done.
Coincidence!! Haha
what tuning? obd1 chip? custom? what MAF, blow or draw through, if any?
Im pretty sure i explained it in first 6 minutes. Full dyno tune on ecu master standalone. No maf. Full map tune
I don’t even know how to start my turbo build on the E34. But seeing this build always keeps my hopes up.
Im glad it helps😏
The 'hard to get into first gear' issues seems to be typical for the 310Z. Have the same on mine.
Yeah sometimes its a bit tricky
10:00 An older BMW with leaks? That checks out. 👍
LMAO RIGHT?!
Just shows you how good german engineering was back in the 90s and looking forward to future maintinence on this car josh
Some of the best engineering!!
Yooooo I hassled you on the last vid, I'm Stoked my guy
Hahaha yesssir🙌🏼
@@m3nameisjosh464 thanks for the update man. Building a 600hp m50 and I needed this
@@bm.dub.builds yesss!!
Love waking up hungover as shit on Mondays with a new vid #canufixmycar
Hahahahshs I like the way you operate🙌🏼
hey on what suspension the car is sitting on ? strut and coil spring ?
Bc coilovers
Oh my gosh 😂
I'm simple I see Josh I click.
Good man 🙌🏼
Thoughts on doin this to a M52B25 out of a 323is ? (Any info appreciated)
Aluminum block so not really strong enough for boost like this.
@@m3nameisjosh464what? Its a cast iron block
@@hexagonosaurus5848 m52b25 is aluminum. M52b28 is iron.
If it's iron block and a 323, only difference from a 328 is the smaller intake manifold. 323 blocks are know to have thinner walls in the block so you can't bore or boost them as far.
@@m3nameisjosh464 Nope. Every single USA spec E36(which a 323is is) has an iron block.
I dont know who told you that lol
The real question is how many miles have you put on this turbo setup? 5 years is a long time, but that doesn't mean much if it's barely been driven, haha.
You don't know shit about turbo builds if mileage is the paramater you judge the reliability by.
@@hexagonosaurus5848 I’m far more impressed with a turbo setup that lasts 100k miles than one that makes 800whp. Cars are meant to be driven, so that’s why I judge reliability by mileage.
@@DannysGarage go drive your accord for a 100k then
@@hexagonosaurus5848 why would I do that when I have a 257k mile E34 525i lol.
I dont keep track of mileage much, but I have driven this car on 2+ hour roadtrips, beat the hell out of it every drive, and have not had to think about it everytime I fire it up. So reliability is there. A turbo build not built properly will usually tell u it’s unreliable on the 1st drive haha
