Arthur did too.
Scratchy no. He gets shot by Micah as well.
@@j.r.2674 He died on the mountain, facing toward a sunset, and his last thoughts were of all the good times they used to have. He even gets buried there later by Charles.
Dutch is the leader of the group but
Hosea is the father figure everyone would rather follow.
Luis Aguilar
In his journal Arthur says he likes Hosea more than Dutch
Rallo I don’t blame him. Hosea is the kind of criminal who pickpockets and cons people, Dutch points guns and kills. Hosea just seems more of a humanitarian which I think just makes him better than Dutch.
@@Governor2310 I was laughing when Bronte takes a liking to Dutch, for basically being as much of a conniving smooth-talking greaseball criminal as he was, and Dutch comes out calling him a ... arrogant blowhard or something, like they're not cut from the same cloth. Dutch falls into this wild hero fantasy where he's standing up for Personal Freedom and The American Way more than anything, but Hosea is more realistic and focused on keeping their chosen family intact and alive as much as possible, while wishing the gang was still white hat, a group of outlaws who weren't just out for themselves as they run down their last days.
missbelled exactly. Unfortunately Dutch turned into everything that he stood against in the end. He abandoned many of the gang and he ended up living in a cave like a common criminal and began murdering a lot of people.
Red Dead 3 baby ! Another prequel hopefully
Hosea and Lenny said they wanted to be buried with Friends when they died, conveniently they would be buried right next to each other.

What the gang members said about Hosea after his death :
*Arthur* : "I'm just.. miss Hosea and his wisdom.
*Dutch* : You sound like Hosea.. I miss him.
*John* : Hosea.. That still don't seem real somehow.. all them years.. he was like family.
*Abigail* : Charles and I stole his body from the law and buried him. It was real nice.
*Hosea* : I'm worry about folks when I die, Dutch.
See? The relationship between Hosea and them is what I call it "family"

Because in a group you need someone as the moral compass otherwise everything goes insane. Micah and Dutch were far from that, and no one really listened to Arthur apart from John, Sadie, and a couple others. Hosea truly was the moral compass of the gang, and when he died you could tell people lost sanity almost immediately. Not only that, but Lenny, who had been the "kid" of the gang, died as well. So moral compass and the young one died and the gang went insane. Add that to Dutch's head injury and Micah's influence and you can see why people like Dutch, Bill, and even some Javier went off the deep end.

When Catherine Braithwaite asked Hosea if Arthur was as big and dumb as he looked:
Hosea: I'm with you on the first part. I have doubts about the second part.
Hosea only made Arthur sound dumb in the moonshine mission to sell it easier lol
He raised him alongside Dutch. Co-parents
Spoiler warning:
5:30. And yet he died facing east at the sunrise (High Honor). The east is where he became a better man earning his redemption in the end. So instead of looking west to the "good times" he looked east to "where he became a good person".
Charles buried him on a hill facing west, though
@@dohoh132 Yes he did but the conversation was on them -dying-
Draven Ocklost no it wasn’t.
Soleya he meant his grave though, which was facing west, Charles buried him there because he said he knows that’s what we would have wanted. How Charles knows that though, is beyond me.
You could say Arthur facing East was him looking onto the future knowing he is dying a better man. But even in death he still remembers to good times
_"I don't believe that for a second."_
This is why I love Hosea. Most others in the camp would simply say _"Oh okay."_ when Arthur sold his intelligence short but Hosea wasn't having anything of that. He expects the best of people even when it may seem doing so is such a ridiculous task considering the scenarios they were in. Hosea is a man of hope, integrity, but also honesty and it all comes together when you realize he's one of the most compassionate and sensitive people in the whole camp.
Morgan, the Marstons, Lenny, Uncle, Sadie, and Karen were too good for the camp if you ask me. Micah was a miserable bastard and Dutch let ALL of them down. Including himself by the end.
>no tilly or mary-beth
say sike right now
You're missing Susan, Mary-Beth, Tilly, Sean, Charles, Simon, Kieran even Molly (though she was kinda spoiled due to Dutch, but than again, Dutch fucked her over, by going with her, knowing he wasn't over Annabelle) and arguably even Javier. I get that Javier is a bit of a doubt here, since he chose Dutch in the end and changed a lot when he went to Mexico. But in my opinion, Javier was actually a really good guy. Sadly he was manipulated by Dutch, which led him to suspect John a lot and aside from that, he was way, way too loyal, to a point where he'd become like those Chelonians, if asked. After the gang, he went crazy, being all alone, having lost everything, being on the run, in a bad place. The loss changed him, but I think if it wasn't for Dutch, Javier could've turned out way better.

S P E E D
Lenny's mind: "SPEED, I AM SPEED"
"Leonard!"
"Hosea!"
*both laugh*
That was so wholesome.
If you'd hung around until the end of the last conversation, you would've seen another sweet interaction. Hosea coughs and holds his lungs because they're obviously hurting him. When he regains control he seems embarrassed, so Lenny soothes his ego by pretending to choke as well and blaming it on the food, saying Pearson cuts the meat too big.
"Well, I'll be dead, but before that I'll be fine again"
I'm stealing that.
The love that Hosea displays for Lenny is apparent when he advises Lenny to rob like a gentleman. That’s like a father knowing the potential of his son, and wanting better for the son than he had. Lenny probably had the most potential of any gang member period. Gun skills, charisma, intelligence, and he had youth on his side. That’s what made his death all the more saddening.
I’m just gonna day that Lenny’s death was even more sad on my second playthrough because in Chapter 2 I found a letter to Lenny from his dad, which reveals that his dad had left him and his mom for work and his father was telling him to stay safe and just wait for his return and protect his mother, it’s just really sad if you read the letter.
Fuck.... even though I haven't played or seen anyone read the letter in playthroughs yet... it's gonna hit me when I that mission. I'll say that.
I read it in chapter 4 ish
Yea
@Allen bryant Alvarez his father didn't leave him his father was killed by some drunk racists who lenny killed in revenge its how he became an outlaw.
The way Arthur died in the way he wanted and Lenny and Hosea got buried next to each other is really sweet but sad
Don't worry. They're all on Tahiti, peacefully picking mangoes while Cain plays in the field. Well, everyone except Micah, he's in hell.
@@gangrenousgandalf2102 he do be doing slave labor in guarma
Hey I hope they're all singing in not a dream dutch crafted for them like tahiti, but their own.
There’s not a single person alive today from that time period, everybody dies. Arthur lucked out in being able to die for something, he died with a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction, poor Hosea and Lenny died afraid, shocked and disappointed.
Arthur died opposite of how he wanted tho
at a panel when a fan asked a bunch of the actors who their favorite character was (besides themselves), hoseas actor (who had been pretty quiet so far) chimed in and said he liked lenny, and it broke my damn heart
the music and ending made my heart a lil heavy :(
Me too but then the vid ended and an add with happy music started playing and ruined the moment.
Sad to think that Lenny coulda had a real future beyond the gang. But at least he didn’t suffer and he and Hosea are with their sweethearts again.
5:33 this line still hits me hard. I was having a low honour point in the middle of the game. After Hosea died, I did everything to gain the highest honour point so Arthur can actually face the sunset at the end.
U prob got shot in the face by micah
He faces the sunrise
He faces sunrise though, symbolising his departure from the gang and moving on
I love how much character is literally placed in the background of the game. I had no clue about this seemingly deeper connection with Lenny and Hosea, two characters who didn’t interact all too much in the main story. You just gotta appreciate things like this. Mind blowing.
I'm so glad I can watch these videos even after my 3rd play through of the game years later and still find dialog I missed. It's just a damn shame nothing like this will ever happen again.

It funny knowing that while Lenny & Hosea were having their conversation, Author is just standing there a few feet away just staring at them.
Maybe that's actually an Author thing for him to do actually? Like... he'll stay in camp to witness and check up on what's happening in camp for a few days, and as us players would mostly do, is just explore and do the usual.
Lenny and Hosea are buried next to each other.
3:48 Hosea tried to warn Lenny, the same way Arthur warns John in chapter 6
4:22 Lenny taps into the speed force
You have to admire the animation and performance of Hoesa, especially at the beginning. You can see him already knowing something is bothering Lenny, not looking away from him when he pauses, slowly putting his newspaper away and sitting forward to listen like a good father/grandfather would.

When Hosea died the game died for me. I rushed through the rest of the game. Had no mood to explore or hang out with the gang anymore.
I still remember the night when the gang burned Braithwaite mansion down and later taken back Jack. Then everyone singing around the fire, Jack in his mother’s arms smiling... I cried. I hoped another moment like that would happen down the line but it never did. Things just kept going worse.
BorisG491 - while I agree with most of what you said, I thoroughly enjoyed Arthur’s redemption arc. For the first few chapters I tried so hard to be honorable in every action, but Arthur was too much of a yes man to Dutch so he was forced to kill. Once he got his diagnosis and Sean, Hosea, and Lenny died, Arthur knew his time was up soon so he wanted to go out his way. I’m glad that his way was a good way, rather than all the bad he done when following orders.
I relate to both of these comments tbh
Same
One of the best moments in the camp has to be the night after getting Sean back if you had still left Micah in jail ahaha
@BorisG491 Funny how I feel the same! Well that or just quitting the game completely, I guess... and replay it up to that point. I really liked Hosea most. I just now came to the point in the game of him dying and I‘m not sure if I can handle the rest of the game, the gang, without him 😢. I can’t even say why, but it really broke my heart. I just wished there were more scenes between him and Arthur with their parent-son relationship. It felt so heartwarming, even if it was not addressed very often. RIP Hosea, you‘re missed.
Oh, when they asked Arthur what he'd like I saw it coming a mile away, still hurt

0:38 I am so impressed at how well they communicate what the characters are feeling and thinking. I could watch this clip over and over again. Hosea's words make perfect sense, and his absolute look of contemplation alone is enough to make me feel what he is feeling
Hosea knew it was all coming to an end from the beginning. Unlike Dutch the gang truly was his family, he cared about every one of them, especially Lenny and Arthur, they were like sons to him; not like the kind of "Son" Arthur was to Dutch. Dutch just saw him as another one of his loyal dogs and got pissed the second Arthur started to think for himself
Hosea also treated John with as much care. Their talks about John needing to focus on his family and eventually put the gang behind him were touching. Gotta love Hosea's wisdom and compassion.
It’s sad because if these two were alive they would back Arthur and John
5:26 the way Hosea's jaw dropped 😂
Hosea kept the gang together, when he died it just fell apart 🤧

That bank job in saint denis broke the gang
Blame Dutch. All he had to do is agree with Hosea a Few times and Everything would have been ok.

Honestly, the death of these two broke my heart. The only thing that could console me & keep me playing the game was the fact that they got to be buried together. Lenny, who wanted to be buried with family, next to Hosea, who he loved like a father. Hosea, who wanted to be buried with friends, next to Lenny, who out of all his friends was closest with Hosea.
Man watching this just rebroke my heart. I really hated losing hosea and Lenny
I made on my Ps4 2 seperate videos out of their deaths. But never one for each Character.
Hosea really cared for Lenny and his future, he really wanted Lenny to become someone, it's so wholesome and heartbreaking at the same time.

That part about Arthur saying how he wanted to be buried got me. It got be good.
I was looking for the scene where Arthur talks about what kind of resting place he wants...thanks so much! The conversation between Lenny and Hosea is very bittersweet!
I still learn from this game everyday.
Hosea was such a good and humble man. I just wish he lived along john at beecher's hope in epilogue other than the stupid uncle.
To be honest, if Hosea didn't die in St. Denis he would have died within another year probably.

Finished the game a while back. But like many other people, I’m going back and seeing conversations I never knew existed. And the first one…god, that damn near moved me to tears. Hosea’s actor is one of the best in the gang, hands down, and that’s saying a lot considering every one of them(except maybe Jack) is great. That conversation was just so REAL. And it foreshadows everything, up to that fateful day.
