Maybe a dumb comment, but the lighting is just perfect in this video. Every member of the band seems to be barely stepping out of a shadow. It seems to really fit with their mood.
E-bows, real bows, the sustain, delay and reverb...the build-up and release of tension in the percussion, plus her ethereal vocals...DAMN! This performance just gets better and better with every view and listen. She is so soft-spoken and humble, almost 'shy' for lack of a better word. She fortunately doesn't seem possess that common, 'entitled-to-be-pretentious' lead vocalist attitude. I just recently discovered Daughter, and am really impressed, if that isn't obvious enough...
I’ve always dreamt of Daughter and Keaton Henson or possibly Radiohead getting together for a collaboration. It would be so amazing! I’ve even though about what it would sound like if she did a session with ALT-J and just got weird with it. Imagine an RnB artist working with her too! Someone like Sonder(Brent Faiyez). Any of those mash ups would be amazing! Also, I love how you recognize all the details(e-bow, reverb, delay, percussionist…). Not many people notice all the details unless they’re a musician too haha I’m a drummer and although I liked the beats the drummer in ex:re made, I have mad respect for this drummer. When I saw him using 4 mallets at once in another video I started to really notice how important his place in this band truly is. Minimal beats that are still emotional and powerful. That’s no easy task!
Had the privilege of seeing these guys live in Houston for their Not To Disappear tour not knowing a single song by them. I left with my mouth wide open in shock out how amazing they sounded live. A forever fan since.
Words can not express the admiration I hold for this band. The lyricism is so breathtakingly honest and fragile. Her voice never screams for attention yet has it, full heartedly, throughout. I hate to even compare but I see Explosions in the sky, Jonsi and The xx influences here. I also wish people would stop saying that any english girl who sings in her accent sounds like Kate Nash. Too much love. Please make music forever
I sincerely emphatise with this guy sitting over there. He must be so immersed in their songs and having to speak afterwards. I would not want to speak at all for ages.
Love the way the presenter is knocked dead for words at the end, you can see that performance hit him in the chest...........special recording this was.
I always ignored this band when I was on YoutTube but I never listened to them I don't know what was up with me and the ignorance but one day I opened the song ''Smother'' and I fell in love with their music. And I'm glad I did listen to that song. This music changed my life.
Alice Del Rey it's always like that. I used to listen let's call it group X and there was another Y in the YT suggestion box which I had no idea who that might be - and I never clicked to check. Turns out X split up some year ago and the Y dude began a solo career, which was... mind-bending to say the least. Pure lyrical genius. Now a year ago, Y announced an end to his career, with a "happy end' tour. I've traveled 1000km to see Y live, what a blast that was! :) Changed my life as well. HIGH FIVE! :) tl:dr; except the unexcepted :)
laura nielsen True dat! I've never been connected to music before I found Daughter. The band is the first one that woke up my feelings. I've never felt so connected to songs before. And it's a wonderful feeling
***** +sophiemanic That's an old trick that was popularized by Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin back in the late 60's. He's a master guitarist and one of the greatest guitarists to ever live frankly. I have no doubt that's where this guy got the idea.
***** I idolize him as a musician, I don't care about his personal life and I don't look up to any of that. A persons music and creations shouldn't in any way be dismissed or counted down simply because of their bad personal decisions. Also, what happened with Lori Maddox was very common in those days, and he didn't realize her true age till much later on. Many of those groupies were very young, but would say they were 19, and dress to look the part. Page isn't the only one that happened to. As for the first bowed guitarist, I never said Page was the first, he simply popularized the technique and made it more well known.
***** That's all fine and good, I was just stating that I think it's stupid when people dismiss someones art simply because they had personal issues, which I wasn't sure if you were getting at. After all i've come across plenty of people who are quick to dismiss guys like Hendrix, Page, etc. art simply because they made bad personal decisions which I think is stupid. As for Page, I don't so much idolize him really as I simply take influence and cues from him in terms of my own playing, and I recognize his massive contributions to the rock world, especially for us guitarists. Also, I'm not saying that what happened between Page and Maddox wasn't wrong, but Page shouldn't take all the blame. Maddox herself has said that she would frequently tell the rockstars she was with that she was of age, and i'm sure many never even found out that she was underage. Groupies seemed to have been much younger and much more intense back in those days. What was really wrong on Page's part was that he continued doing it and locked her up, which in my opinion was probably him attempting to diffuse the situation.
I love how Daughter is able to create such a deep soundscape with a limited number of instruments and members. It demonstrates their skill in both writing and performing. Love these guys!
I never paid much attention to drummers, but man I am so impressed with Remi. So many techniques in all of these songs and all stuff available on YT. This coming from a non-musician, so what do I know, but yeah. I think he's great.
Impeccable performance! I rarely listen to female singers but I honestly can't stop listening to their album. It's right up there with the quality of Bon Iver and James Vincent McMorrow. She's amazing.
Thank you Raydrick Francius for introducing me to Daughter when we lived in Groningen, been coming back and enjoying this gem for 7 years and will continue to be back here...hope you are at peace wherever you are
My lonely heart is sinking like a boat lured into the rocks by a siren song. I'm a bunch of debris floating around, staring at the face that got me here in the first place. Is she the most beautifull woman on earth or am I still under her spell ? God knows. But for now I'm a happy wreck. 10/10, would crash again.
My depression got worse just cause I must suppress the urge I have, to hug this being of purity (this woman, I mean) since I'm not -nor will be- able to do that. And then she sings and I forget how sad I am, for the duration of the song. I just hope I won't lose that, at least. I already feel nothing most of the time -..-
Merci et encore merci ! Après le live inoubliable de London Grammar sur cette même chaîne radio, je profites de cette performance de The Daughter !! And yes, we also follow your web-radio in france. Thank you so much guys for your work. I am going to listen this one for a third time 🥰
Daughter is seriously the best artist right now. Their sound, their lyrics, it's phenomenal. Very few artists create albums on which EVERY song is pure gold. This is art.
daughter's music is so beautiful and sad but elena always laughs before or after she does a song. i can't get enough of her. and them. and all of this.
Been listening to daughter for a good 6 yrs now....and I always come back to the kexp sessions....10/10 live performances
how are they not HUGE?! this was just flawless throughout...unreal.
people are silly
They are getting there! Are touring with The National right now!
kat kay and they played at Coachella too!
Woohoo!
xaxsimplexescapex 4
the way Elena sings is so painfully beautiful
Winter 0:15
Still 7:55
Human 13:24
Smother 18:02
Great performance!
When you say "where the music matters" I take it very seriously. KEXP is one of the fewest radios that play great music nowadays.
3
Their playlists are hit or miss honestly.
Sad but true
Je vous conseille également Tiny Desk.
@@megland9403 yes, Tiny Desk is also great
This is probably the best video on the internet.
Derek Keerl agree
close but not. this is ruclips.net/video/G8UT6nkSWT4/видео.html
daughter is beyond amazing... elena's voice is utter perfection
Maybe a dumb comment, but the lighting is just perfect in this video. Every member of the band seems to be barely stepping out of a shadow. It seems to really fit with their mood.
KEXP seem to always be on point when it comes to sound and lighting.
i realize it is kinda off topic but does anyone know of a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
@Camden Raul i dunno atm I've been using flixportal. you can find it thru google =) -xavier
@Xavier Koda thanks, I went there and it seems like a nice service :D Appreciate it !
@Camden Raul No problem :)

+F Sharp Nailed it. Though the OCD spell checking grammar Nazi in me noticed you missed the word 'to' between ~doesn't seem~possess that common~.

Her speaking voice is perfect by itself, holy shit.
Daughter is just such a lovely sight
Dammit Igor! The guitar is flawless and the production even more so. Everyone is so zoned in on Elena that they forget the others.
Nor him, he is the producer.
Had the privilege of seeing these guys live in Houston for their Not To Disappear tour not knowing a single song by them. I left with my mouth wide open in shock out how amazing they sounded live. A forever fan since.
thanks for sharing......that is just how I imagine it would be if I saw them live. Thinkin I'll try to get most if not all their offerings
I saw them live in houston also in 2016. I wonder if we went to the same concert that would be crazy.
Words can not express the admiration I hold for this band. The lyricism is so breathtakingly honest and fragile. Her voice never screams for attention yet has it, full heartedly, throughout. KEXP does the best recordings, I've yet to hear a band sound as good on their proper albums as they do on these sessions
isn't she lovely?
Her voice
Her face
Beautiful Soul
lovely lovely lovely
She's so talented! Amazing, I wish I ever get the chance to see her live
+Carla Zambelli It is not "her", they are a band
I will see them tomorrow 💕
This is not music, this is digital Magic sent from angels to a sad, hopeful world.
She has one of the most beautiful voice, of all the bands I'm listening to!
+laura nielsen I recommend Lady Lamb. She also has a KEXP session from last year
okey, thanks
her voice is everything

+Alice Del Rey That's exactly what happened to me too... except it was with the song "Youth", I ignored:-)
laura nielsen I was so silly to ignore the cover image of the song ''Smother'' because it seemed like an old rock band hahaha
Alice Del Rey The image of "Youth" looks like a music video for a really heavy metal band hahah... And now I'm so much more into music than ever!
laura nielsen True dat! I've never been connected to music before I found Daughter. The band is the first one that woke up my feelings. I've never felt so connected to songs before. And it's a wonderful feeling
You know it’s a good day when you hear possibly the best voice you’ve ever heard from a musician ever. Love this band with everything.
I got high, searched KEXP and went on a trip here this evening.
AlreadyAUser UGH MOOD!
Thank you, kexp, for always giving me what I want.
She´s so shy! Beautiful!!
Everything about Daughter is just epic
thank you for bringing daughter to us in all their glory! :)
my jaw literally dropped when he started using the bow on the guitar

M. Goetz Page was deep into the bloated showman stage that Zep got into at that time, one of the reasons kids like me got into punk!
+M. Goetz To be honest he probably got the idea from Sigur Ros
She is so beautiful good lord
gorgeous. her voice is a devinity
I met them over the summer and they are amazingly nice people
She has such a beautiful, sweet sadness about her. Her mates compliment that in their music very well. Absolutely outstanding.
Elena is my dream woman, she is unbelievable. 😍
feels like i'm in another world, when she is singing..
she is an ascended master. respect her.
I love how Daughter is able to create such a deep soundscape with a limited number of instruments and members. It demonstrates their skill in both writing and performing. Love these guys!
music not from earth!
thats so wunderful, love it so much
dream on
This music helps you escape. It teleports you somewhere you never knew you could reach.

She's hot, but when she talks I'm melting. Damn you english english accent!
So hot that she turned you into a fried chicken :-)
Free Thinker She could literally turn me into anything.
Thank you Raydrick Francius for introducing me to Daughter when we lived in Groningen, been coming back and enjoying this gem for 7 years and will continue to be back here...hope you are at peace wherever you are
Her "hey" was the sweetest "hey" I've ever heard
I lover her!!!!! I seriously do, her voice is waterfalls falling through a garden of angels and fairies into a mist of sadness and beauty:,)
My lonely heart is sinking like a boat lured into the rocks by a siren song.

I love it when a great band like this get the recognition they deserve, if only it happened more often!
This performance was completely mind blowing and beautiful.
OMG her voice
A soundtrack for my misery. Magnificent.

shes so cute OMG
she is so soft spoken yet her songs have so much power.
When I'm lonely, her voice take me to amazing world.

Their cover of get lucky is RIDICULOUS, amazing cover. Totally agree with him, i started enjoying more the original after hearing the cover
so beautiful
God bless em for this performance. This was my first time and I'm already in love 💞
daughter's music is so beautiful and sad but elena always laughs before or after she does a song. i can't get enough of her. and them. and all of this.
Excellent.
the singer is perfect
ALLURING, HAUNTING, SEDUCTIVE, so much on display, lyrically and collectively. Please lash me to the mast till it fades.
So beautiful...
The music. The girl too, but the music.
I've been waiting for this and I was not disappointed. She is perfection.
I love this music! Reminds me of my drunken days crying over heartbreak and love. The days before I became numb....
This band is a jewel in an ocean of dust.
14:04 MY HEART
Still is so beautiful...
"I sometimes wish I'd stayed inside my mother never to come out" Such a powerful lyric. Damn.
I'm absolutely in love with this band
If this was a console my replay button would be shattered.
Soooo beautiful I want to cry
She looks so shy :) Adorable.
This band is exquisite in every way!
Seriously my favorite band of all time.
absolutely stunning
OMG! i am so going to watch them live in Singapore in January 2014!!!
Ohh.. i love daughter. thanks KEXP!!!
So painfully perfect..
STILL.. my favourite!!!!!
Looking forward to Daughter's return to Boston in October. Thanks for posting.
My god this band blew me away, so beautiful!
