Saw their KEXP performance and found it extremely good...quickly went and listened to their album on spotify and, while I was not disappointed, it was just not the same.
The other amazing lady in the studio is the presenter. I've seen her interview a few bands and she always asks intelligent questions that provoke insightful replies from musicians, used to be guarded in what they say. KEXP gives musicians the space not just to perform, but to expand our understanding and appreciation of the music we love and for that I am hugely grateful. Daughter have always been an amazing band but thanks to KEXP I know feel I know them a bit better x
Every KEXP clip I've seen here on RUclips has been incredible in terms of production, video and sound quality and atmosphere, aside from the bands (Ibeyi, Daughter, La Luz, Warpaint). They're incredible.
KEXP's sound production on these shows is amazing. Big ups to the engineers. For whatever reason bands seem to sound better there than anywhere else. Daughter is a case in point. London Grammar is another.
Honestly? The "sad band" is a refreshing change from all the popular stuff forced into your ears every waking moment. I feel at peace listening to melancholy indie stuff like this.
It is a shame that people nowadays have to feel ashamed for being sad or depressed sometimes and I think the ones who have the sun shining out their a... all the time are just not accepting all the feelings they have. It seems like Elena feels like an alien... which is kind of sad. But wrighting down emotions and being able to express them is definitely a better way of dealing with depression than taking prescribted drugs that are just deafening the mind and change your peronality over time.
Cheryl Waters is the best. If you read this and want to see her at her best, watch the video of War on Drug's first appearance. She's trying so hard to stay professional because she loves them so much, and Adam keeps teasing her by responding "Thanks, Cheryl". It's one of those rare interactions that remind you how wonderful people can be.
This is how I discovered Daughter for the first time in 2016. Never heard of them until this moment. It was night time. Lights were off, silence in my apartment, just before sleep when I was watching KEXP.When "New Ways" started I immediately was focused on the melody. "This has potential" I thought. So I continued listening. Little did I know what was coming next. When the guitar rift came in at 2:27 I was in a new world! It spoke to me on my deep level. I couldn't stop listening. It was like fresh air that I was gasping for. It reflected something I was feeling and I could connect to. Absolutely transcending music. Two weeks later I saw them live in Toronto. From ignorance to fan in a matter of 2 minutes of New Ways. True story.
I can't believe Lucy Parnell isn't a full time member of the band. She really creates such haunting harmonies to round out the vocals. Wow. What a find.
Wow, they sound so good live.... I looked away for a moment, thinking that I was listening to their album, then looked back and realized they were playing live.
Haram Bee Maybe. But being obvious that my comment was totally subjective, i found that remarking the fact that liking or not the riff is a matter of taste was a proper response for a comment trying to express something subjective as if it were objective, and that's not the case of mine's. Though my english is not perfect, and maybe he did not want to say that. Anyway, i'm not angry of something. It's all fine :)
Cherryl is such an honest host, you can feel she cares for the music and the guests' thoughts and motivations. Also, thrilling performance by this band. Great show altogether.
As a musician, those first two songs intimidate the hell out of me. Absolutely stunning. Every member incredibly talented. Such perfection in the sound.
Lucy Parnell should definitely join the band. She brings a perfect touch of energy, making the group sounding even more special. Congrats Daughter and KEXP. Keep up the outstanding work!
I so love her totality ... she is beyond feel ... The voice ... the sway ... you know , I know , we all know ... or we would not be listening to this beautilful soul ...
I just discovered Daughter thanks to KEXP. Nice sound, Love Elena's voice. Love the guitar sound. Love the arrangements. And Lucy Parnell is absolutely astounding. Can't wait to see them in Montreal.
For me it does seem few and far between, but again, that's not saying it's not worth it. If anything some of the shit performances I see has comedic value at least. KEXP is all in all great, not hating on them at all.
This band is really good..Indie Shoegaze ...a cross between Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Cocteau Twins, This Mortal Coil, Durutti Column & the great 4AD bands of late 80's also come to mind when i listen to this. AMAZING !!!!
The audio mixing and all of the levels are beautifully melded. No one sound source drowns out another one, just really smooth waves of sound. Artfully produced audio!
You know I think it's great when an artists has done what daughter has done , it shows how versatile and talented the band truly is each release is like a box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get ! They maintained their sound and still managed to sound like daughter and that's what makes them great this album is a very personal album can't wait for the next release!
WHO IS THAT GIRL>>?? The keyboard player and vocals etc, there's no mention of her existence, I looked all over. I need to know! The cute wee ginger.. someone must know..
They sound even better doing a live show. Many bands sound great on the recording but suck at live performance but Daughter beautifully performs every time. They are awesome
Put your headphones on, Lucy. That's it - the R goes on your right ear and the L goes on your left. No, your other left... oh, never mind! Beautiful music, played beautifully. Thank you.
16:28 "a lot of people see us as 'the sad band'" - oh, that's an experience I had A LOT: as soon as music/movies/literature digs a little deeper into the conditio humana, all the shiny "happy" people call it "sad". And it always has an undertone as if that's something indecorous or something. 'Cause most people are Philistines.
Elena is obviously an HSP (highly sensitive person) just as me, and it gives me so much strenght seeing her channel her emotions into her music and lyrics. You have chosen an incredible path to cope with it, Elena. Thanks for being highly sensitive, and thanks for sharing it through your music.
took me a while to get used to their new album, definitely different from their first but i love them all the same. growing and changing with their fans, for sure. also, the interviewer's questions were on point -- articulate and in-depth. A+
Thanks to the Life Is Strange - Before The Storm Soundtrack to bring me here. Love KEXP because every Bands deliver a truely beautiful performance everytime here. Every band I've discovered because of KEXP are amazing, Daughter is no exception. One of the best KEXP session ever.
These guys are soooo honest and unimaginable warm, cool, also good vibes music! Respect KEXP for presenting masses to such incredible precious bands, like Daughter. Cheers!
Man, all the things she says is so matching the way I approach life! It s rare to see someone so compromised with knowing how to deal with her weaknesses. Best way to be well with yourself.
Such a perfect example of how amazing talent refines and grows. Loved them the first listen several years before and am amazed at where they are here. Impressive they took a year to prepare and contemplate before committing to the studio album phase. Elena has a voice that is so pure, evocative and honest and echoes in her gorgeous guitar work. Host Cheryl Waters is gracious and insightful as always- wish she was my long lost aunt so I could hear all her amazing stories...
2024 and i’m still watching this
we are all
X2
X3!!!
2054 I hope to still be listening to her ... jamming out in my Pj all tucked up napping at 80 years old ... Ha
Same here
I have no children, but this is my Daughter.
Good one 😅🤣
2023 and i’m still watching this
2024
One of those rare bands that always sounds way better live than on their album.
Ben Howard, Daughter.....two prime examples
HÆLOS
Oscar Gómez Torres Very true, couldn't agree more.
Saw their KEXP performance and found it extremely good...quickly went and listened to their album on spotify and, while I was not disappointed, it was just not the same.
Did the exact same thing for me. The album's grown on me since, but I often still just go back and watch that session instead of listen to the album.
I like the host. She's great.
+1
Cheryl Waters is a fucking legend
She always has relevant, unique and honest questions...Much respect to Cheryl and the bands invited.
She's the best
I hate the host shes fuckin annoting with the kexp in every two seconds daughter is great tho lemme enjoy the music
Daughter is like a warm blanket of beautiful you wrap yourself up in at the end of a long day with a cup of steamy tea.
That is the best definition i have ever seen of daughter haha 💜
+Grant Dyce from who or what?
my bad i was wrong
yeah 5 days AFTER your comment someone stole it
+Jared she makes me cry.. not feeling your feels at all. I love love love her. Beautiful. It's very sad and heartbroken.

+Jane C i called kexp from n.c. and told them how special cheryl is. i'm thinking of asking her to leave her partner and have my love-child.
Every KEXP clip I've seen here on RUclips has been incredible in terms of production, video and sound quality and atmosphere, aside from the bands (Ibeyi, Daughter, La Luz, Warpaint). They're incredible.
I feel like Sheryl Waters really loves her job. I envy her a little.
Her voice touches a part of my soul I never knew existed.
she makes me wanna kill myself less
I think you copied some of my comments from the Clastonbury Festival 2016?
Sir, that is the best quote I have read for a long time - respect !
I thought about my emotions when listening to her, and you're comment just described everything I really feel. thanks mate
You must continually update your soul, it wanders all over the place when you have the smell of quim in your nostrils...
KEXP's sound production on these shows is amazing. Big ups to the engineers. For whatever reason bands seem to sound better there than anywhere else. Daughter is a case in point. London Grammar is another.
exactly this guy gets it
I would just agree they are better because they are artists from the U.K.
Have to agree. sound engineers damn nailed it
I know, I can feel it in my bones!
@David Abrass you are spot on. So much of what's on you tube just sounds substandard compared to this studio.
Honestly? The "sad band" is a refreshing change from all the popular stuff forced into your ears every waking moment. I feel at peace listening to melancholy indie stuff like this.
Also sometimes makes you feel like a person who is in the deepest and beutifull darkness. ...
Welcome, you guys :p Perhaps, if we all synchronize our feelings, we can try to mend this world for real, eventually...
Linus T right? I don't really even see it as sad I just see it as beautiful :)
Linus T THANK YOU! Took the words out of my mouth!

that host has the best job in the world
She is wonderful and most likely a volunteer even better ya?

i remember when this came out, how has it been six years already ???!!!! i'm so happy that daughter is finally back
Same man..

I did not see her name in the show notes. Thanks.
and she has a really cool attitude too!
@@winterbird4447 What's cool about her attitude? Cause she's a fucking milennial bernadro sanders supporter?
@@SirPhilMcCrackinVonBeggington oh she is? thanks for pointing that out...lovin her more now!
Ah, glad I found your comment, thought it was Josephine Stephenson when I was trying to look it up but could only find the trio of members listed lol.
Awww she's so shy and cute n_n
“I feel like I’m gaining some kind of power by expelling all of my inner thoughts and secrets to people in rooms” ❤

I'm in love with that red headed girl in the back doing the most of the magic 😂❤
What an exceptional soundscape they have built
Exactly! Ethereal soundscapes. Love them!
"How" has probably one of the best guitar riffs i've ever heard.
Matter of taste, i absolutely hated it
+V94 I didn't say it wasn't a matter of taste.
He didn't say that you said it isn't a matter of taste
Haram Bee Maybe. But being obvious that my comment was totally subjective, i found that remarking the fact that liking or not the riff is a matter of taste was a proper response for a comment trying to express something subjective as if it were objective, and that's not the case of mine's.

terrible riff i thought, sounded like a bunch of notes that weren't in the same key

As a musician, those first two songs intimidate the hell out of me. Absolutely stunning. Every member incredibly talented. Such perfection in the sound.
I'm mesmerized by how extremely awkward and shy she is, fumbling and stammering when she talks.
The lyrics to Doing the Right Thing hits all the right buttons. God damn it.
Just discovered Daughter. Absolutely tremendous music.
I'm 50 and I'm in love with everything these guys do. THE BEST!
They are, saw them live at Brixton Academy a few years back.
Best band I’ve ever seen Live.
True about Daughter: ruclips.net/video/j0LZHE1wc_I/видео.html
Lucy Parnell should definitely join the band. She brings a perfect touch of energy, making the group sounding even more special. Congrats Daughter and KEXP. Keep up the outstanding work!
HATS OFF TO SOUND DEPARTMENT HERE!!!...
THE QUALITY IS SENSATIONAL , Even better than their released Version
The Mastering and All the Enginneers 👏👏👏
"How" is a really great song. Stuck in my head for a month now.
The girl playing the keyboard and the bass guitar seems really cool. Hope she continues performing with them.
What is her name!???
+Liliane Lass Erbe Lucy Parnell :-)
Thanksss!
Lucy Parnell is amazing - plays everything.
Most viewed KEXP video of 2016. Most beautiful band ever.
At one point i thought the album was called "absolutely stunning"
lol
Amazing people with brilliant talentt and voices.
Love them so much! Always coming back to this session. 🥰
Same
I so love her totality ... she is beyond feel ... The voice ... the sway ... you know , I know , we all know ... or we would not be listening to this beautilful soul ...
I wish they played Fossa it's also one of my faves
Rein B. Omg!!! I love that song! ❤️
doing the right thing is magic here
this is pretty much the only reason i'm subscribed to kexp
Every single person in the band look hotter since the last KEXP presentation...
I subbed to KEXP because of Daughter's first performance on 2013.. :)
She's my mind, I am absolutely in love with her
Elenas vocals are so clear here 👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽
Whoever wrote the 1st song went through a lot of pain. That's for sure. Best, woof woof!
I just discovered Daughter thanks to KEXP. Nice sound, Love Elena's voice. Love the guitar sound. Love the arrangements. And Lucy Parnell is absolutely astounding. Can't wait to see them in Montreal.
Beautiful binds of excellent minds
I love her shyness style, so rare in our metallics times
One of their best sounding performances here... big love for Lucy, cool as a cucumber, perfect harmonies - should always be in the line-up.
I just saw them live, and man did I shatter into a thousand pieces
Finally something good to remind me why I sub to KEXP. Awesome.
Daniel Drader It is for gems like this, just sometimes have to wait long longer.
For me it does seem few and far between, but again, that's not saying it's not worth it. If anything some of the shit performances I see has comedic value at least.
KEXP is all in all great, not hating on them at all.
+Daniel Drader perfect response. i was thinking the exact same thing. can't believe people still type fake 'lol' in their posts either.

Those harmonies on the last chorus and the outro are incredible.

This bands music has saved my life a few times over 🖤
Wow! At the end of "Doing the Right Thing" it's like time literally stops!
The audio mixing and all of the levels are beautifully melded. No one sound source drowns out another one, just really smooth waves of sound. Artfully produced audio!
I wish so much for a (Live on KEXP) for their new album :'(
13:42 ... this little "sorry" perfectly describes how beautiful Elena's character is even without knowing her..
This human is art.
I love this humble behavior and shy them
Lucy Parnell
The keyboard/ bass player is talented and beautiful!! 😍

I swear Daughter are one of those sparse bands that genuinely do sound 5 times better live. This set slayed me for real
Just discovered this band. I am mesmerized by this haunting sound. May be a new band crush ;)
Same!!
Daughter gave an AWESOME performance in Portland a few weeks back.
Elena and Lucy's harmonies at the end of Numbers is a thing of fucking beauty.

Beautiful music, played beautifully. Thank you.
I love how they are such an amazing band but still so humble, cute adorable and sooo shy.
Their songs remind me of a sandy beach in Italy where you're lounging and can hear the Mediterranean waves crashing in the background.
It’s pretty interesting ! For me it’s a gloomy and cold day in fall or winter
16:28 "a lot of people see us as 'the sad band'" - oh, that's an experience I had A LOT: as soon as music/movies/literature digs a little deeper into the conditio humana, all the shiny "happy" people call it "sad". Elena is obviously an HSP (highly sensitive person) just as me, and it gives me so much strenght seeing her channel her emotions into her music and lyrics. You have chosen an incredible path to cope with it, Elena. Thanks for being highly sensitive, and thanks for sharing it through your music.
As an HSP myself, I'm musically following in her footsteps and the ones of The Cure's Robert Smith's.
This is the pinnacle of beauty in my opinion ❤️
you can’t make up how awkward she is, it’s insane but i’m here for it. beautiful soul!
took me a while to get used to their new album, definitely different from their first but i love them all the same. growing and changing with their fans, for sure. also, the interviewer's questions were on point -- articulate and in-depth. A+
