- Join me on a summit camp in Snowdonia, Wales. After having an extremely wet and windy winter that has crept into spring, I finally get some incredible weather and views from the tent. Per usual there was quite a bit of unexpected rain, sleet, and snow on the hike up to the summit. But the forecast was right for once, and the skies finally opened up and I had a beautiful after and evening NOT stuck in the tent!!! I really enjoyed this camp so I hope you enjoy watching.

Hi Todd. I always find it very “other Worldly” up there. Loved the Lion King on the cantilever 😂. Not sure if you are aware but the rock feature behind you is Castell y Gwynt (Castle of the wind). You were lucky with the weather up there. Great drone footage. The amount of times i’ve carried mine only for it to be too windy! The food, as always, looked amazing. I’ve tried to sign up for your website but keep getting “captcha validation failed”. I got the Soto Storm Breaker for the colder months but you have to be careful with the initial light up. 😂 I couldn’t resist, lifting Simba! I actually mentioned Castell y Gwynt by name in the video, but I ended up cutting it because I butchered the end. I felt bad continuing to mispronounce everything 😅. I should’ve just called it castle of the wind👍. It’s a pain continuing to carry the drone and never getting to fly it. It was nice to actually get to use it again. I almost forgot how to fly the darn thing. Thanks for letting me know about that error. I will check it out when I get home. 👍😂 sounds good. I have been very lucky finding solitude. I’ve actually never seen a single person walk by my camp in the past 4 years. But I do make an effort to go on off days when others are less likely to be out hiking. (Take that back, I did run into a hunter in the woods a couple years back). Such a fantastic spot 🙌. I was really happy to finally get some time to relax outside of the tent after the ridiculous rain we’ve had over the past couple months. I did recently get the Allak. I’ve been using the Unna with my son but I really wanted something with a bit more space and two vestibules. Absolutely loving it so far. The frost patterns were pretty cool 👍. When you were describing your route initially I thought you were heading up Bristley Ridge and I was a bit concerned as is a very tricky route. Even more so with that rucksack and in those conditions. It was featured on another of my Wales videos. Really enjoyed your video. ATB

Thanks! It has been extremely convenient getting to cook in the vestibule of a tent and no longer worrying about any predatory animals or rodents. Although even back in the states when I would cook in bear country, I never saw signs of bears, showing up to any of the areas that I would do my cooking or even near where I would hang or stash my bear canister. Rodents and Raccoons on the other hand were occasionally the biggest nuance at camp. Really appreciate you watching and giving the website look. Hope you have a nice weekend. All the best
Well i paused at the 20 minute mark to grab a 2nd brew. The scenery, well, im kinda waiting for gandalf and the hobbits to appear with a few orcs, as for the weather, the forcasting here is hopeless. I rely on a few farmer friends to give me more details. Eg it will say partially cloudy and in fact its belting rain….got a few laughs too. Bloody I phone and the drone. Lol well filmed.

I’ve been extremely happy with it so far. I’ve used the Nemo tensor insulated for many years. The extreme is just as comfortable and has been warm on cold trips like this. Appreciate you watching!

It was very happy the forecast was as predicted for once. It was nice to get a spot with a view! I use many different weather apps. Windy app, mountain forecast, weather underground and met forecasts. You can never completely rely on them but if they are all saying the same thing it makes me a little more hopeful the weather will be as predicted. Not often I comment on videos but this deserves one, stunning! Camped in that same spot probably 5/6 years ago, my first ever Wild Camp, May ironically and woke up to the most incredible cloud inversion. The "Castle of the Winds" you camped next to is just something else isnt it. I can't quite believe the route you took up there though, it looked like you went up Bristly Ridge? All credit to you if you did, that's some gnarly scrambling to get up that especially in fog! Such a well put together video!
Such a great spot 👍. I went around the back side. So nothing as crazy as Bristly Ridge. Definitely not in those conditions. Hilleberg tents are a bit pricy, but the best! One of my first experiences with Hilleberg, was in the early eighties, at Rolf Hillebergs eighth birthday party. I fell into a rosebush…

Great video, loved the cooking! What burner is it you use, never seen that flat thing on top before! What does it do?
Thanks! I am using the firebox wood flame gas burner with the titanium diffuser plate on top. Normally I don’t like cooking with titanium pans, but with the diffuser plate on top it much more evenly spreads the heat over nearly the entire bottom of the pan 👍

I remember when I got the Nallo 2 going from the Vango Helium ul1 and the Nallo was a absolute palace, it was huge and the peak headroom was almost the entire length of the tent!

My favorite ramping guy hey my first thing if get of off from come home have a nice hot shower and a good plate of food help the kids with homework but at 8:30 I'm going solo for a hour or the winds and rain just helps with sleeping good

Thanks! This is a Fontani Zuava in Olive Wood. They are handmade in Scarperia Italy. Relatively inexpensive compared to the cost of modern pocket knives. Thanks! It was nice to finally get some decent weather. My pack weight was a bit higher than normal on this trip. Around 34.5lbs (15.5kg) all in, including food and water.

Thanks man! It’s the firebox wood flame gas burner. The heat diffuser is fantastic when cooking with titanium pans because it spreads out the heat a bit more for a more even cooking surface 👍. You can also adjust the airflow into the stove and create a campfire flame, which is pretty cool. I’ll show that on my next camp. Really appreciate you watching. Hope you have a great weekend!

I really wasn't expecting the drone footage to draw tears from my eye's I'm from North Wales Out on the Llyn peninsula small town called Pwllheli Snowden was always visible from town I've not been home in over a decade.
Ow and also the F is pronounced as a V in the word Vach i.e. Small.

Thanks! Using this titanium pan on the trip was a bit of an experiment. Normally I don’t like to use a titanium pans with a gas stove because you get hot spots. But I was using a stove with a heat diffusing plate (firebox wood flame gas burner) which creates a much more even distribution of heat. It worked really well actually and makes cooking with titanium on gas a bit better. I still think one of the best skillets I have ever used is the jetboil summit skillet though. Its nonstick coating is fantastic and the pan heats very evenly 👍. But this setup worked very well and is quite light. Hope you have a nice weekend Markus 😀
Thanks for your answer. Yes I know what you mean. Because of the hotspots by using titanium (Keith Titanium skillet) with gas stove I don’t have you my skillet the last time. Hey there, love the videos! My roomates and I are a bit inspired by your videos and we're wanting to get into camping a bit more. Would you happen to have any recommendations for a hot tent that can support up to 3 adults?
Not overly concerned with pricing, I'm just looking for a well-made product supported by your expert opinion. If you dont know of any, thats fine. Figured I would ask.

Glad you’re enjoying the videos! I haven’t had two much experience with really large hot tents although I did use the Pomoly Dome X4 Pro in a recent video and I was really impressed with it. You could probably squeeze 3 people in with a wood if you don’t use the inner tent and you don’t mind getting a little close. Or you could go with the Dome X6 Pro which would easily accommodate everyone. They also make pyramid style tents if that’s a route you would like to go. Another company that makes hot tents is Nortent. They make some polycotton hot tents that have a similar construction that are very durable however they are more than double the price. Either way I would start by looking at Pomoly and Nortents websites. Hope that helps 👍. Have a great weekend! ATB

thanks for posting, can i ask, what do you enjoy the most about the trips you make, id like to try it myself and can imagine the solitude is very peaceful
The solitude is extremely therapeutic! But what I love the most about these trips is that it forces you to be 100% present. No matter what may be causing you stress in your daily life you are forced to disconnect and think about meeting your basic needs. Navigating to your destination, finding a suitable place to setup camp, getting water, preparing food, and staying warm and comfortable throughout the night all while dealing with what Mother Nature may throw at you. There is something very primal about it and it makes me feel at peace in way that nothing else can 😀. There is a reason why many studies have shown time and time again the benefits of just taking a walk in nature 👍🌳

Thanks Carl! I am using the firebox wood flame gas burner with the titanium diffuser plate. Works really well to spread the heat if you are using a titanium pan. 👍

That tent is top notch. Rocks remind me of Mars pictures. Would not want to be there without some kind of food. Not alot of sun no wonder you wanted to see it. Love your cooking kettle and how you use it to add things to your meal. Once again beautiful footage of the mountain landscape. Love it.
The rocks in this area are pretty spectacular. I was happy I finally got to see things in the sunlight. Makes such a difference. Very excited to use this tent with my kids. Great ventilation and spacious. For whatever reason I’ve always just loved using kettles as opposed to a pot. Works well for cooking simple things like pasta as well 👍. Thanks! It’s a really beautiful location. I don’t have the GPS location but it’s up on Glyder Fach is Snowdonia. I definitely wouldn’t recommend this hike for kids though. Hope you all enjoy your camp. All the best 👍

As I have a Granger triangle like what you used but can't seem to get a gas burner to fit it...but in this video you use a gas burner that fits the trangia triangle 😊
