Mam and dad listened to this. I used to pretend to listen to stay up late. Now I stay up late and listen to it Great music. Made for memories. Beautiful
I remember my dad use to sleep in his chair in the living room, n whenever I'd go through the room I'd always stop to listen to this n many others, I have my dad to thank for my taste in music, truly.
This is one of the most underrated songs of all time,me and my pals were out camping one night and we heard this song," screaming your a liar" god this takes me back ,I was 12 or 13 ,it still sends shivers down my back when I hear it now, what bothered me was when it was played , very rarely on the radio they never played it to the end,ie the bass guitar .omg just a fantastic song .
I have seen thousands of bands live over the years, you name them and chances are that i have seen them. One of the best bands i ever saw was Lindisfarne at Essex University in the early 70s. I met them after the show and got them to sign autographs ( which i sold on E-bay a few years back). Alan Hull asked me to carry his guitar whilst Ray Jackson got my mate to carry his mandolin to the tour bus. Real nice guys oh yes i can still remember that night.....
Great memories of going to see Lindisfarne at St Andrews Hall Norwich. The back up band started late as Lindifarne had not made it through the snow yet. They called and said their truck was stuck and they were hitching on ahead. They eventually turned up at about 9:30 pm. The door opened and they came in in a blast of snow. They had a few minutes to get ready and played a fantastic show with the back-up band's gear. Not quite the same these days.
A great band and a great artist Alan Hull, often described as the Bob Dylan of the North East, but he was more , much more than that. He was also a great human being, so much unsung by the UK. Sad... it takes someone from Algeria to shine a light on this great, great man
Wanted to call my 1st girl Lisa Eleanor as I was so inspired by this song. Her first gig aged 5 was Lindisfarne at Hemel Hempstead where Alan Hull held her hands from stage whilst she was on my shoulders
I say they are FIRST CLASS, not just first class, always played their music on my 8-track stereo in my old humber super snipe many moons ago. I've now bought a cd player !!! All the best to the geordies, regards from Reigate , surrey
Beautiful song from a very underrated band. Loved seeing this again after all these years. I watched this and went and bought the record (around the time of the punk era ). Good memories 🙂
I love checking out the early rememberances of British guys...love to read about your first concerts at "cricket' stadiums and with groups like this and Nektar... My first was in '72....Humble Pie with new group, Foghat and Jo Jo Gunne...Second, '73 was Humble Pie with "new group from California", "The Eagles"--kind of remembered Withchy Woman...and while wishing I was at a Santana concert, emcee intoduces Jorge Santana and Malo--Sauvecito...wow
I was proud to see them Shepherds Bush and sat in front of a young brother & sister and I said that they were a little young for the Lindisfarne concert, and they were there to honor their Dad who had played Lindisfarne music all their lives and he had sadly passed away. A lovely tribute X
Oh wow. saw these guys at the old Beverley picture house some years ago now and, i have to say , not the biggest, but the best gig i've ever experienced. Just magical !!!!!!
A dear You Tube friend sent this to me, such a great song, and oh oh, such great times when this came out. I completely forgot about this band, but it is so nice to sit, listen and remeber... made me a realy happy dutch lady.
Hello! Of the 'Classic' line-up... Rod Clements is still touring as a solo artist and playing sessions. Ray Jackson is an artist. Ray Laidlaw works in TV, Film & Event Production and still plays drums. Simon Cowe lives in Canada and works in the brewing industry.
The first time I saw this group was at Salford University in 1978. It was probably in the same week that they gave their performance at the Granada Studios. The studios, just down the road from Salford Uni, was where Tony Wilson worked for regional news. I saw him at a number of local concerts. He was looking for an outlet for his musical passion and, of course, he went on to found the Hacienda, Factory Records and contributed to the creation of "Madchester"
Ah - those times when musicians actually played and improvised instead of just copying (or even mimicking) to their record. I did not know that they could play funky...
Heard this on top of the pops in 72 and it has stayed with me ever since. Beautiful melody and haunting feel. Check out 'Roll On That Day' from the best of. Uplifting stuff, love it.
Wonderful song. I remember going from school to the record shop especially to buy this in its record sleeve....not for the sleeve though! Excellent post....Cheers..........
Was number one when I left school in 1982. I met Kevin Rowland at Radio one road show in Falmouth a few yeàrs later and he was very polite and friendly. Love Dexys
Lindisfarne sono stati un gruppo folk-rock britannico molto popolare negli anni settanta[1]. Tra i loro successi: Lady Eleanor, Meet Me On The Corner, Fog on the Tyne. La band era capitanata da Alan Hull (20 febbraio 1945 - 17 novembre 1995), voce, chitarra e piano del gruppo[2]. Il gruppo ha continuato l'attività fino al 2003.
saw these guys in the seventys downunder they were supported by slade and statusquo lindisfarne blew them away if they are still playing theyshould come back to australia you know its the best place in the world
Well Rod who used to play bass and Ray on drums are the only 2 originals left playing, but a Lindisfarne certainly still exists and are still great. with Rod playing mandolin, slide and lead guitar. Ray co-stars in a tour called the Lindisfarne story with Billy Mitchell. Also worth a night out to see. Sadly Si Cowe has now also passed away and Jacka at least at the moment is retired as far as I know..
I live in Australia too but I'm originally from the north east of England where these guys are from. As much as I love this country you really couldn't beat seeing these guys in their home town of Newcastle, Christmas time at the City Hall now that was fantastic
There used to be a quaint quirky pub in exeter in the uk called the Red Cow. University students would frequent it as it was fairly near the campus and it was very near the level crossing by St Davids station. You could have a yard of ale there if you were brave enough. For the completely insane, they had a funnel with a long tube, which you slid down your throat to your stomach and then the funnel could be filled with whatever spirits anybody chose. It was a sure way to go from being stone cold sober to needing an ambulance in under a minute! In the separate pool room at the back was the best jukebox in town and that was where I first heard this wonderful song in 1983, as a student from exeter college, just up the hill. Like many other uk pubs, the Red Cow was knocked down around 2004 and some ugly 'british brutal' flats built therre instead.
Total class and so tragic we lost Alan so young
thankyou for posting this takes me back to a time when the world seemed a happier place 15/12/2023
Saw them at Ripon teacher training college about 1971…brilliant!
Mam and dad listened to this. I used to pretend to listen to stay up late. Now I stay up late and listen to it Great music. Made for memories. Beautiful
ddouble dutch I think many of us are like that. Our parents music formed us.
I remember my dad use to sleep in his chair in the living room, n whenever I'd go through the room I'd always stop to listen to this n many others, I have my dad to thank for my taste in music, truly.

You are so right. Dylanesque lyrics with a Northern edge . We all knew a lady Eleanor at some point.
Agree
I know that feeling. Yes, love this song. So many layers to it with each band member adding something very different.
Just one word to describe this, fantastic.
Wonderful stuff. English talent at it's finest. RIP Alan.
Albannach
This song should have been massive its a brilliant piece of work

It's nice to see (and hear, of course) Rod Clements rocking his fretless bass.
God bless Alan Hull. Lindisfarne remind me of my greatest lost love.
If Alan Hull was born in London, Manchester or Liverpool he would have been classed as one of our greatest songwriters, which he undoubtedly was.
Great memories of going to see Lindisfarne at St Andrews Hall Norwich. The back up band started late as Lindifarne had not made it through the snow yet. Saw them at the Oval Cricket ground about 1970.Awesome day except eveything was melting and the sky was gold and rose!!!
Seen them as Downtown Faction in Newcastle in 1968. Knew they were good!!
One of the least talked about bands that should be up there with the Stones and the Beatles. Alan Hull was a genius.
I say they are FIRST CLASS, not just first class, always played their music on my 8-track stereo in my old humber super snipe many moons ago. I've now bought a cd player !!! All the best to the geordies, regards from Reigate , surrey

Lindisfarne at their best. Allan Hull had a unique voice.

@@alainpreveaux2428 You're welcome. :)
One of the most underrated bands ever, nicely out of tune is still a great album.
punkoid76 ,
I don't think that they are not under rated. They had a lot of success in the 70's.
So many good 70s folk rockers....John Martyn, Strawbs, Jack the Lad, Bert Jansch, Steeleye Span, Pentangle, Roy Harper......etc etc etc
They are not underrated - I like them!
Stunning tune, from a Great LP! dx
Oh, this is perfect. Thank you.
straight back to my upbringing in Whitley Bay :)) Happy times!
Superb ! Takes me back to the 70's , spot-on cover . That guys voice is uncanny !

Named my daughter Eleanor (Eleanor Mia) after this song. Classic.. I hate the fact she insists on being called Ellie now :-(
That may well change with time... I ❤️ the name
Born Eleanor, then Ellie now Elz! This is my song ;)
Surprising how a Geordy tone comes through on this and how well it suits the words of the song
Just love it,
Gorgeous forever...
@stusixtyone Saw them at the Oval in 1971 at the Bangladesh concert, and they blew EVERYONE away. I think that concert launched them.
@1927gallagher Many thanks my friend, great track released the year I was born!
Oh, fantastic! :)
Alan Hull legend, live on in my heart.
Classic song....✌
Just got back from watching lindesfarne tonight! Absolutely fantastic
very under-rated
