Well I'm a 64 man and when I heard this song on the radio its one of those moving songs that are made to be special, and the intro to this special makes me have tears in my eyes, Like many of us songs like this will bring back special memories, as sadly many of my great friends have sadly passed away, God bless them all.
Brings back memories of a cycling holiday when I was 17 with my best friend Tim who died suddenly a few years later. This is the song that reminds me of him and that long hot summer.
You will have been the same age as me then. Very strong and generally very happy memories of this time, working and hanging out with friends. I , too lost my best friend in a traffic collision 14 years back, so i know what it feels like.....and so does my son whose closest fried committed suicide five years back. The memories stay and often really hurt...but you have to keep going and just try to keep the happy outweighing the sad. .
I remember tuning the grand piano for them in 1978 shortly after getting back from working in Australia. 🇦🇺 Great English band and a wonderful anthem. ❤️
Back in the 70’s my father had an old Bedford angle cab and used it to do furniture removals. He was asked if he could take a budding band round a few gigs. Well he took them round a couple but due to lack of funds in the band they had to leave a black guitar that had mother of Pearl on the fret board as collateral. Well we had that guitar in the house in its case for around 6-7 months. Then a guy shows up and collected it pay the balance, he also asked if he would consider continuing as their driver moving their gear. Offering tickets to the city hall gig. Alas to my sisters dismay he refused the tickets and declined the job. Only to realise that 12 months later they hit the big time. The band was Lindisfarne..
I remember seeing Lindisfarne at the Planet Theatre in Slough during their yearly Xmas tour in the early 1980s. They were brilliant, but imagine our surprise when, after the show, the whole band came into the nearby pub that my friend and I were in. We had a great conversation, and Alan remarked how much I looked like him!! Unfortunately, neither my friend or Alan are still with us.
You have your loving family in Japan and I'm sure you say everyday you love your family, Please take my advice not to return to England it's gone down the pan and its absolute cesspit, be happy and take care.
A friend of mine just reminded me of this song which was my fave back in the day, I'm 63 now and just heard it again and it sounds Brilliant still as if it was yesterday, my body is 63 yes old not my spirit😅
Great Song in my top 5 along with Baker St, all around the late 70s, and Year of the Cat, Sultans of Swing, and so many more. I still perform this song every weekend in various pubs in Dublin and it gives me great satisfaction and unlike me, it never gets old.
saw lindisfarne when they came to norwich. what a great band they were. im 70 now how i wish i could turn the clock back. enjoy yourself while you can everyone
I had a Geordie mate back in those days. We lived in York, so Newcastle wasn't that far to hitch to. We hitched up to see Lindisfarne, and all the way my mate was telling me what bastards the Geordies are to southerners (me) so I had to be really careful and do my best Geordie accent. Needless to say, the only reason I wasn't smashed to pulp was because the Geordies were wonderful. It was a brilliant weekend.
Another song I saw on Now 70's when it was on Freeview before it got taken off. One of the songs I mind from my childhood and it brought back memories. Especially getting back from school which I hated with a passion..this was always in my head when the school bell rang!. Great track!.
Real music , wish we had music like this again, 70s and 80s were the best ever , now i never listen to regular radio stations, only Greatest hits and smooth , where you can listen to proper music.
Glad that I am old enough to have gone to all the Christmas concerts at the city hall in the 70s, wouldn't have missed them for the world. Fantastic memories of my youth
@@colinbrown7021 It was just one of those things that you had to do as a Geordie. One Christmas eve show went on very late, missed all local transport and no taxis available because of the day it was so ended up walking 8 miles home and arrived back at 3am, wouldn't change it for the world.
This has become my favorite song since watching the video on YT . I was 25 when it was released, but somehow its true brilliance has only just hit me. I can't get it out of my head...!
First heard this on a cassette I bought in The Netherlands. My mum, my gf of 11 years, each now gone, loved this song. They were each ill. Anything to split from the death trap Doctors offices and Hospitals !
This was one of my fave songs that year and still one of my all-time faves,I loved lindisfarnes music, and I was lucky enough to see them live in Glasgow, and the roar from the crowd when they said they loved Scotland and Scots people cos like Scotland they hated the Tories for closing all the mines ,one of the loudest cheers I've ever heard at a concert
Oh wow! Forgot about this song . Brilliant. Thanks for posting. (Was reading an article about the island, thought I remembered there was a band of the same name).
Whilst I liked and indeed bought this at the time now it sounds very middle of the road unlike my earlier memories of the band with their sickly sausage rolls😉
I cry when I hear this song im 55 now i was 10 years old when it was in the charts it brings back so many memories
58 fella. does the same for me.

Great song. Group of us played it in local pub last night, went down a storm!!!
What a superb song.... that first time I heard it back then in '78 it touched me.... and it still does.... Ben, from Holland.
The Great Alan Hull. Geordie poet and much under rated genius. RIP.
Decent singer and musician too
I don't know about 'much under rated', anyone who knows anything about music certainly rates him very highly.
This was big when my wife and I first met great memories and a fantastic band.
Love this song, going to see them twice this year

So sorry to hear your loss of your dear friend, I myself know what you mean.
I remember tuning the grand piano for them in 1978 shortly after getting back from working in Australia. 🇦🇺 Great English band and a wonderful anthem. ❤️
seen these at nostel priory near Wakefield in the 70s ,with the blues band and Jethro tull. good times
Just give me half of the happiness of the singer playing piano please.
Absolutely
The great Alan Hull.
Class song, underrated band 👏
It's my 60th Birthday today, and this is top of my playlist.
The 60s and 70s were the best. We are all better people for knowing them.
In 60 in August 2024

The unofficial National Anthem of Tyneside or for anyone from the North East of England. One of the greatest pop songs ever written. RIP Alan Hull.
I am a Geordie, Newcastle upon Tyne 👍🏻HWTL 🖤🤍
Scouser here, I’ve always loved this song it takes me back to my teens, I also love “Lady Eleanor” by them, another classic.

I'm back in a time of enjoying life an friends and having just enough to get by. A much simpler time with no pressure to fit in.
Absolutely brilliant Alan Hull hitting the lead singer with his tamborine is pure class
@user-qp2sc8yg3t My apologies I got Ray and Alun mixed up
Ray Jackson must have a great personality as this shows
@donbrashsux Ray Jackson is a brilliant character and performer
One of the greatest songs ever recorded.

Absolute classic
What a great song!
feel good song 🙂
My song of the late 70s❤
I love it.
What a fantastic song by the great group and singer
Love this song it took ages to find
Great to see a remastered version, especially because the music drowns out the dreadful DLT.
That's probably more to do with DLT's shall we say 'indiscretions' than anything else
Alan Hull rest in peace my old dream seller.
The late great Alan Hull.....I really enjoyed their xmas shows -- Best live band Ive seen
I don't remember this TOTP performance but have been fortunate to see Lindisfarne perform this live on many occasions.
So so many memory’s 💕💕
Outstanding

First heard this live at Euro 96 in the beer tent at St James Park, amazing
Brilliantly produced.
