    Hey there, thanks a bunch, I really appreciate seeing you digging deeper into that clone saw. Found the fatal flaw, which was immensely satisfying, but you summed it up well in the final minutes and it fits my attitude about these Chinese saws. To have something that will stand up it is going to need bottom and top end substitutions with better components....at least if you increase the saws performance with performance porting. It is getting out of reason for my tastes. And even if a guy does not upgrade now, you would be wondering when the lower end or something in the piston assembly and cylinder would go....it is a pay now or pay later proposition the way I see it....even with leaving it bone stock. I am well past the age and physical form necessary to really use one of these, but got to admit the strong attraction to taking the build on, confidence inspired by your excellent teaching and generous sharing of information. Thank you.

    I love watching shows like this. I thought your videos on porting with the cutaway engine was awesome. I did auto-machine work and mechanic work for years but not able to do that anymore. I built a farmertec MS660 (Hyway big bore with a little port work, gasket delete, muffler mod & Walboro carb)(Couldn't find my degree wheel so no numbers) a couple years back to try chainsaw milling. The saw will pull more than I can hold anymore. Pulled a 54" bar through red oak over 3' diameter with no problem. I can't handle milling anymore because of disability but I do still use it a little for firewood when my MS170 is being overworked but can't stand running it long. I figure my son-in-law will end up with it. I'd like to try building a 365 or 372 kit saw or maybe blown Husky sometime but disability payments probably not going to allow that lol. Thanks for education.

I just got a 4910 I moddded the muffler on and love it. 50cc is plenty for Pennsylvania hardwood and easy on my back. My 590 has a 28” with the same mod and rips. Hope your doing good not smoking. It’ll definitely help get over flus and colds faster

    Thanks! What did you end up doing with Kalab's 590 that never ran right? Those saw's aren't too bad really, and your porting looked good, not too high on the exhaust roof, and the lowers looked great! Charles Brisco raises the uppers a little, and usually goes pretty hot on the porting, and his rip. Mine is running real good at the moment! Heh heh ... We are way into winter already here, and I'm just cutting a little by the road, to last a week, and for fun and exercise. Thanks for all the tips!

    Tinman I've come across a problem I've never seen before any ideas what would cause it?. I had a little stihl 023 given to me for my nephew to run
    if I could get it running well I got the thing running with fuel down the head and after investigating the needle in carb is corroded so bad its game over for the carb I think. Strange the rest of carb looks spotless. Maybe try one of these aftermarket ones for £6. Loving the videos my friend 😀

    Heh, you mentioned big saws and milling lumber, oddly enough I'm watching this while a video uploads in the background to my channel of using my Dolmar 120si to mill a log.
    While 68cc isn't all that big in the grand scheme of things, it's big enough to cut some slabs!
    I'd love a Dolmar 9010 90cc and a 48" mill/bar... But that's a pipe dream at the moment.

  • @bmp0149
    @bmp0149 Год назад +5

    Hi, If you want to know for sure if the carb off this 288 is good, just fit it on the other 288 and run it for a tank or two .... simples.... A least that way when you get to the end of your build you'll have confidence with the carb and not a question mark. Having 2 saws the same is luxury many builders dont have, swapping parts back and forth is a great dagnostic opportunity.

    • @tinmanssaws
      @tinmanssaws  Год назад +2

      I probably won't run that carb. This saw is going to a professional cutter so a used oem carb will be the way to go I think.

      @@tinmanssaws Dont discount the swapping parts back and forth between 2 saws as a diagnostic tool, its easy on stuff like carbs, ignition....gives a degree of certainty when you get one of those confusing situations.
      Example: If you had a good running CS590, you could borrow parts from it, prove your hypothosis about the ignition timing issue on the CS590 project saw :)
