    You are amazing! 54 years old and I am just learning how to fix me! I have been considered morbidly obese pretty much since grade school/birth. Nothing I tried ever worked or gave me the desire to continue on. My daughter turned me on to the basics of fasting then I found you and your book. It has brought me to tears that I can and have the desire to continue going. I did a 36 hour fast this weekend and dropped 2.4lbs that period. I look forward to trying again for a more extended period. On the daily I work on a 15 to 18 hour variation and push for more on the weekends.
    Lots of Love and Thanks

    @Dr. Mindy Pelz
    Hello, I have been fasting for 2 weeks now, lost 7kg so far, still have much more to lose. I'm a 28yo male, I used to weight 139kg, now down to 132kg. I am doing 5-6 days of fasting then 1 day of refeed (I try not to overeat). I am doing coffee with cocoa every day, I drink tea made from boiling ginger, cloves, cardamom, black pepper, cinnamon and curcuma. I take electrolytes daily (himalayan pink salt, potasium chloride, magnesium citrate) with L-Ascorbic Acid (vit c). I have started to take a table spoon of olive oil every day. Every 3 days I drink broth made from boiling chicken feet to help prevent loose skin. On broth days I also mix a juice from spinach, parsley, lemon, ginger. I try to take a long walk or go swimming everyday, but not always have the energy after work.
    Is there anything else you could recommend me to do? My goal is of course to lose weight, but I don't want to ruin my health in the process. I also want to avoid loose skin, I want to kick into autophagy as much as possible (and for other health benefits that autophagy brings).

    I came across your channel today for the first time. I am a post menopausal woman age 59. I’ve been having night sweats with menopause since at least age 50. It’s about 3 o’clock in the morning every single morning. I also have come to realize that my hot flashes are triggered by sugar. Putting this together from your video that the liver dumps sugar into the bloodstream totally makes sense why I wake up with night sweats and hot flashes in the middle of the night.

    Yay! Thank you! I’m in pattern #3 and I was so confused. I’ve been fasting and keto eating for 3 weeks and I’ve lost 8lbs but my overall sugars are higher. I figured that my body was breaking down the stored sugar - which is great! When my sugars test higher than average (like 139 mid morning without eating) I’m making myself move to burn it off. Walk, clean, do laundry - something physical to burn it off. This video helped me to keep going. Thank you!

    Thank you so much Dr. Pelz! I purchased a reader and the results have been shocking! My blood glucose is in the 70-80 range, but my ketones were so low even though I’ve been doing ADF! I realize I must be eating way too many carbs on my eating days and I’m going to implement keto.
    Hour 1 I was at .1 ketones, hour 24 I was at .2 and now at hour 36 I’m at .3. At this pace I assume it’ll take until at least this evening to hit ketosis. The blood reader is so much more accurate than those strips! Thank you thank you thank you!

    Really useful! Three day fast saw rising blood glucose and rising ketones (99/1.8) competitive athlete most of my life on a high carb diet including sports recovery drinks. Eventually just started gaining weight. When I was younger I would just cut calories and increase training volume. This was no longer working. Three hour workouts, eating like a runway model would lead to temporary weight loss followed by exhaustion and usually an injury (muscle tear, achy knees, etc.)

    Thank you Mindy for speaking about pattern number 3. I can't find anyone to talk about ketones going to high when your not a diabetic. I have been doing IF for almost 2 years. The first 6 months of keto no issues with ketones to high, I don't know about blood sugar as I didn't test. Went back to normal eating and still did IF with 2 meals a day for a year and a half. Tried keto and IF again in October 2023 for two months, no great results like the first time. So after two months went Carnivore Nov 27 2023. Around day 50 got a keto MOJO meter with my cgm. First am tests had my blood sugar at 399 and my ketones flashing high. My cgm said 125 BIG difference. I am a lean mass hyper responder and so I added 35- 50 total net carbs in a day. I sent the keto MOJO back and just used the cgm and keto pee strips. When I do Carnivore without carbs, my ketone pee strips read 8.0 in the am. I also drop into the 60's when I sleep. Then boom dawn effect around 7:30 100-125. Stays in the 100's when I work out. Drops when I eat lunch around 11. This is crazy. The carbs have bloated me again and caused me to gain 1.5 pounds of body fat in less then a week. I tried a diet doctor who teaches with the other Carnivore docs and he is not much help. Who can help guide me this is so complex?

    Wow, you have just answered my biggest concern! I am diabetic type 2 and since January I took my health more seriously. I started with keto and I lost 40lbs. However, the effect on my blood glucose was negligible. I therefore started Fasting (OMAD weekdays, 16:8 weekends) for the last month. My ketones are always above 1 but my glucose stays very high (between 8mmol/l and 15mmol/l). Unfortunately, if I take insulin to control my blood glucose I crash so I do not have a lot of options. But from the video I take that my liver and muscles are filled with glucose that need to be slowly evacuated. Many thanks for sharing the wisdom!

      I was going to say the same as John, strength training is a good one, that'll suck that glucose out!
      It could also be stress, if your highly stressed cortisol will be making you catabolic as your body tries to turn any thing it can into glucose.

I thought I would've had higher number in Ketons. Loved Loved your enlightening video that you beautifully explained everything. For the first time in my life, I feel I am in control of my body without guessing or making any assumptions. I was also much focused on the numbers on the scale and I learned from you that the numbers that I need to focus on are the Gl and Ketons. I am deeply Grateful for all your videos and heartfelt teachings. Much Love, Light, and Gratitude to you Dr.Mindy.

    could i reverse this when working on nightshift?

    • @Velmyra
      @Velmyra 3 месяца назад

      Yes, I work night shift. I fast while I work since she said we’re not supposed to eat when it’s dark out. So what I do is I eat a nutritious dense meal before my shift (as long as the sun is out) and then fast during work and then sleep right away after coming home and shower.

    I am so glad I found this. I hit menopause and a lot changed. It didn't help that I had gastric bypass and that totally messed up my digestion. I just started following your 80/20 protocol and I am on day six and down three pounds.

    Loved this content-just completed my first reading and seeing where I land. I have been doing the IF and completed my first 3 day fast with your group in Jan. Still in shock I did 80 hours. I am now working on diet protocol for feeding the right hormones and tracking my blood sugar and ketones. What is the time length for an established "pattern"? Today is day one of tracking. You inspire me to be empowered and take my health back with knowledge. Thank you for being an incredible resource for women-my teenage daughter even wants to understand how to feed her cycle:)

    Perfect! I am honored my body is pattern 1. I have autoimmune condition and everyone kept telling me toxicity. But all my labs come back clean. No heavy metal, no copper build up, etc. So this info makes me feel like I am still in control of my health and my liver is healthy. I was doing really well with daily 20 hours fasts and the AIP diet (and coffee enemas) and lost all my extra weight and stopped (but not reversed) my vitiligo. I stopped high intensity workouts (for me they were literally another form of STRESS). So walking, chillin, fasting and sleeping!!! Then Covid hit and I went backwards. So I’m here, watching your content to get reinspired because my body is a fighter and my cure is fLOw.

    This is a fabulous talk! So much great information for someone fairly new to Keto. I've been doing IF for a while but am trying to get off the yo-yo weight loss/gain merry-go-round. I'm close to 5 weeks in on Keto and doing fine but not sure about my numbers and want to know exactly what I'm doing. I have a glucose and ketones monitor ordered. Your videos are a pleasure to watch because your upbeat personality is inspirational. So much good info. Thank you so much for your gift to help us improve our health. xoxo

    Dr Mindy, the “dawn effect” is really plaguing me! For the last 8-10 weeks, nearly every morning between 3:00-3:45 a.m. I wake up and only about half of the time am I able to go back to sleep-and this is regardless of how early or late I go to bed. Any guidance on when this will stop?! I need my sleep! ❤

    Thank you Dr. Pelz! I have been fasting, using the Ketometer and my glucose is normal range however my ketone reading is either a .04 or .05 it does not go up from there. So, based on your video, it sounds like I will have to love on my liver to help it out. It is certainly a process, lol!
