(Disclaimer this is an affiliate link so I do get a commission) Dwarf Hair grass comes in two forms Eleocharis parvula and Eleocharis acicularis and of course is a fresh water plant. In nature you will find it in a verity of places all over north American, Europe, Asia and south American. Prefering shallow water ways with lots of light. It is a relatively fast growing carpeting plant compared to other plant in the hobby, that are some what slower. It will require a moderate to high intensity light and would benefit from Co2 and root tabs to help it spread faster and thicker.

Do you recommend sand or what type of substrate in aquarium ?
With this ive grown it in gravel, the small pebble gravel and dirt/sand. I feel like the dirt/sand, sand and regular gravel is best since it gives the roots an easier time spreading out
I have it in my shrimp tank.
Noice
just started growing some from seeds and wanted to know ... Does trimming it make it spread and fill in quicker?
Trimming will always help plants grow. I am not necessarily sure if it will help this carpet faster, though unfortunately. Sorry.
Thanks for the info. I was looking at this plant at the last swap I went to. Now I know to avoid it. Until I invest in better lighting.
Glad it was helpful!
I am planing a tank using a single feature that is a "lava Rock stone Moai" statue... i have never had any luck growing dwarf hair grass but I think it would provide the look I am after.. does it prefer a certain substrate? Thanks in advance!
Love what you do!
So id say either sand, dirt/sand, or just regular gravel you get at the store like the "colored" stuff. I think the large pebble stuff is not roomy enough for it to grow nicely almost suffocates it I think. Im sure the small ball like aquasoils would work as well. Did you try root tabs before? I have done it both and they def do help it out. Never did Co2 though.
I planted long hair grass from seed it did wonderful spouting, but now that's it been in water for almost 2 months it's been melting away I'm not sure why it has the right light, the correct plant food, am I just now starting to think I should add co2, so I added flourish excel while I wait for my co2 diy to build up pressure. Does anyone have any tips on how to keep long hair grass from melting
@@Scarlet-d7g i've heard some people say that carpeting plant seeds are a scam and that you are much more encouraged to buy clumps that you manually plant. I don't have any experience with carpeting plant seeds, but I always had success with manually planting plants
Never had a carpeting plant before. Thanks for the info, Lefty!
You bet!
I really enjoy your plant videos. Thank you.
Glad you like them!
Great clip! Absolutely fishtastic
Glad you enjoyed it
This plant is versatile! Good info
It really is! thanks for watching
Great video Lefty 👍👍👍
Thank you :3
Should I add root tabs ?
Yes hair grass is one that needs something to fertilize the soil as well. So if you're fish aren't pooping enough you might want to try a tropica root tab. The liquid ferts aren't as good since these are heavy root based nourishment versus water column plants
Nice video
Thank you very much :)
Not tried this plant. Might try it in my new 16G scape. Cheers Lefty👍
Go for it! hope it works out :D
@@Lefty3213a thanks 👍
