this is actually perfect timing lol, I'm about to set up a 15-gallon tank and was wanting to do a densely planted tank this time
Want cheap carpet that stays short and spreads quickly, try marsilea hirsuta. I purchased 3 cups and it's taking over a 55 gallon tank.
i bought this but its aint doing too well, gonna add co2 and see if it helps
Another very well done video, very useful information 👍
Thanks! Feel free to join our fishkeeping discord server discord.gg/QQcwsT9gYC
Awesome thanks. Cool set ups
A great tip is that consistently trimming your carpeting plants will allow the roots to grow faster and also let the plant spread faster as well
Very true, especially for stem carpeting plants like pearlweed.
Thanks for stopping by!
I had heard this too
Excellent information and footage as usual. 👍
Thanks Daniel!
Great presentation and information my friend. I really like Christmas moss. Happy Sunday
Cheers Marco, happy Sunday!
Great video thanks for sharing 👍🧡
Wow, great update! 😾
Amazing video shared with us, Great content on your channel, a hug, 👍143
Thanks man!
Just going to buy java moss and fern !
Pearl weed is just a destroyer for me.
I planted it in pond with direct sunlight and covered the pond just like his name *WEED* 😂
I literally forgot that im having betta and angels fries in there 😂
Haha, pearlweed does indeed grow fast!
Very informative video 👍
Thanks for stopping by!
Excellent video and very informative. Love it!
Thanks!
What's about eleocharis parvula Grass ?
Hey man great video, I do have a question, iv got S repens but rn it looks nothing like a carpet plant its growing roots i can see those but in my tank its like a long stem with not many leaves yet but very small. Should i cut the long stem to small parts and plant them again? . its a VERY VERY low tech tank w crypts and brazillian grass..crypts is doing well.. grass idk and stauro i need help w it. What do i do (cant add co2,ferts for now)
bought s ripens from a store like 2-3 weeks ago they sold it as a long stem with not many leaves still what DIY method can i do to make it grow fast? and others too
i do have a good high bioload
So being a stem plant they do grow upwards cutting them back and planting the cutting helps spread them. But also instead of growing from where you cut it they will quickly start going sideways then up again almost like you blocked the road and they took a turn. They will still grow from where you cut it just not right away. So the best thing to do it cut and plant until your satisfied with the layout after that. Your only cutting and with each cut they get denser and denser it takes time with S. Repens. Also if they are growing tall rather than compact try getting a stronger light. Under lower lighting they tend to get leggy and stretch high light and they don't have to stretch to the source; this is true for all stem plants. Good luck and I hope this helps 👍🏾😁
@@princescdk3107 ayee thanks man I have low lighting setup so i can't really help that but I'll try
How did you get on? 'VERY VERY low tech' sounds like not enough light. I've just planted some in mine. Only issue is the fish and MTS keep uprooting them 🙃
@@ArnoldQMudskipper yes I mean it's decent the quantity but the quality is just basic and it came with the tank. The crypts have boomed in growth , stauros are mid, while the grass is just alive no growth. The fish are overcrowded abit so somehow it also acts as fertilizer..going to add another plant in the future.
Loving this....
I do love crypts... Never thought of using them for carpet
Pearl weed would be great for breeding.
I have some dwarf sag.. I love them.
Cheers Chris! I appreciate your support!
is it possible to do any carpeting plants on a soft sand substrate??
Sand should work fine. 👍
Love the glosso
Thanks for watching Sas! Means a lot!
Thank you for a fun time
Beautiful❤️

Thanks for watching! Means a lot! :D
I've had a nightmare with the pearlweed just not staying in the gravel & floating up. I have no special lighting, CO2 , any tips, should I plant it deeper? Unsure whether to buy more or try something different. Maybe I separated it too much 🤔 great clip, really interesting.
planting it deeper might help, you could also hold it down with some stones. the key is to keep it from floating until the roots grow in, where they will anchor the plant down strong. Hope this helps!
Thank you, good suggestion about stones / pebbles... I won't give up with it yet, it seems fragile, & I'm thinking of adding Vallisneria maybe. Interesting learning about tank planting 👍
How do you clean the gravel underneath?
it's not cleaned, the gravel is part of the ecosystem and provides as a base layer for the tank. Waste that falls into the gravel is absorbed by plants. The more plants, the healthier the tank :)
How deep of a substrate do you need for dwarf sag
I'd say at the very least, 1.5 inches. But preferably 2 inches and more since they feed mainly from their roots. Thx for watching, hope this helps!
Yes in need that
Thanks Green hen!
Which subtrate do you use
I use either sand or gravel for my tanks. Depends on the setup, mainly.
In short
1- CRYPTS
2- PEARLWEED
3- MONTE CARLO
4- DWARF SAG
5- JAVA MOSS
6- DWARF HAIRGRASS
7- GLOSSO ELAT
8- PENNYWORT
9- CHRISTMASS MOSS
10- S. REPENS (Staurogyne repens)
So what is the best of them all?
there's no one, specific plant, but if I had to choose I'd go with dwarf sag :)
👍
Glad you enjoyed it!
I don't understand how dwarf sag can be kept short. Mine ends up with leaves that are taller than the surface of the water. Ithought I was sold the wrong plant so I replaced it from another seller. It is still the tallest in the tank.
Yeah, dwarf sag could get pretty tall in rare cases. Just cut off the leaves to trim them or lower the light. These plants REALLY appreciate high lighting.
@@Aquafinity I tried trimming them but that just leaves brown edges.
@@Sue.5776 Hmm, maybe try dimming the light, see if that'll help.
How to differentiate Monte Carlo and Glosso? They both look so similar.
And HC cuba too
if you look closely, their leaves are slightly different shapes. also monte carlo grows more like those house plants you see and can grow on wood/rocks without substrate. glosso will definitely need a nutrient rich substrate. another difference is that glosso tends to grows faster than monte. hope this helps!
Доброго времени суток.Все красиво,интересно!🙋🏼♂️🔥🤝👍79
Спасибо!
You mixed Tripartita and Pennywort , those are completely different species.
Nobody ever mentions hellanthium tellanium green! It's the easiest carpet plant ever!
Guess I’ll have to try it out sometime!
@@Aquafinity do it's brilliant even in low tech!
i never succes growing them without co2 except cryp.
hargras, monte carlo grow in medium co2.
moss will grow upward in no co2 condition.
bro montecarlo needs co2...
not necessarily, they can do fine without it as long as lighting is good.
Montecarlo needs CO2
"You may regret not trying these".
Except fthe first, poceeds to list terrible tank mates.
monte carlo needs CO2 bro.
I don't believe they do. They can do well as long as the lighting and ferts are good.
Actually no
why youre not telling the truth
How so, explain your words
@@AquafinityFAX
Maybe he meant that plants will die without co2, there is co2 in the water without even injection of additional co2, like from fish respiration, this guy can't read between the line
I heard that monte carlo needs CO2 for growing 🥲 otherwise it will dir 🙂 is it true??
That is correct. I tried without CO2 twice and they eventually die off
I’ve found that Monte Carlo grows fine without co2 as long as high lighting and a nutrient rich substrate are provided. Oftentimes their demise is due to a lack of lighting or nutrients.
