My son is currently obsessed with dominos and it’s neat to see his confidence grow through his play… when his designs fail or get tripped prematurely he’s learning to handle the “failure” really well!
One thing I definitely want to highlight is “Stories” - telling stories of resilience, and that ties into the first tip of modeling - to be more aware of how I am handling my own insecurity. This video is a great reminder!

This is really good advice. Thanks for sharing. So many times I wanted to shelter and protect my children (and selfishly take the path of least resistance) but I realised over time as they aged it wasn't helping them become more confident. The worst thing is they don't trust in themselves. Now I have learnt that it takes a bit of effort for my boys to challenge their own thoughts and feelings but it helps them gain a better understanding of their thought processes and emotions. It is time consuming but, it allows us to have more open conversations and trust, not just in each other but in themselves too... which is what is most important. But... along with that.. they constantly challenge me too :)

Thanks and I agree. However, I think from when our kids were little and wanted to help and my husband was scared they would break something and didn't let them help they are now discouraged to help... how to reverse it?
    I will try...

I hear you, BUT every kid is so different and I’m not sure every kid is as fragile about praise and fear of failure. Prime example… my 6 year giggles and laughs and thrives from praise such as; “you’re so good at phonics”. She doesn’t internalize or get down because she can’t do something one time because she’s praised for that very skill other times. She’s resilient, shes confident and she bounces back just fine even with tons of praise for excelling at something.

That tends to be the case for bright kids, until they do hit something harder than a one-off speed bump. Some kids even get all the way to adulthood before that ever happens, lol, and all those “you’re so good at__” “you’re so smart” types of paise sows doubts when they get there: are they really “good at” or did it come easy before? If they’re “good at,” then why is it hard now? How did they get to this point of having no clue how to move past this wall when they were always “good at” the lower levels of this? Just something to keep in mind!
