Personally, I believe Lil Nas X's past hits consists of music good enough to speak for itself, and those songs could've had similar popularity with an aggressive marketing strategy sans any trolling or forced controversy. Panini and Industry Baby are a good example of this, with the latter being 6X platinum and having 1.9B streams on Spotify alone, making it his most streamed song on the platform. This also means that Industry Baby outperformed Montero, which was previously Lil Nas X's most controversial song. It's also interesting that Industry Baby reached 6X platinum within 17 months, while Montero needed 19 to reach the same milestone.

Todd in the Shadows said something in his video on Katy Perry's WITNESS album about his theory of there being two types of pop stars. According to him, there are the musicians that have the constant persona and following that'll stick with them through everything and keep up with every release (such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, The Weeknd, and so on), and the type that are more flash-in-the-pan and go away once their hits dry up (such as Nelly, Marilyn Manson, Paula Abdul, and so on). While he said there are some artists who sorta straddle the line between the two types, in that they lean towards the second type but may go closer to the first if they keep having hits (like Bruno Mars and Dua Lipa), I'm now wondering if Lil Nas X is starting to lean towards the second type in this case. If his new set of songs are starting to flop, maybe he will slowly become irrelevant once his hits dry up.

I was never exposed to the Lil Nas X controversy or his rollouts and I’m glad, I liked a few of his songs and saw him live which made me a fan, Great performance. The problem with the new track is that, for starters I can not for the life of me remember it at all and I’ve heard it atleast 6 times. I remember that it is humble by Kendrick Lamar though and something about the structure being very separate between sections. People definitely don’t want the controversy, we do want good music in however form that may be.
Fun Fact: Roblox RUclipsr Flamingo did a raid that day (which was completely unrelated to the concert) which indirectly caused issues with the Lil Nas X concert.
I don't think Lil Nas X will actually be bothered too much if he drops out of the spotlight due to people getting bored of his marketing/courting of controversy. He's had his time in the spotlight, and the success he got before he took his hiatus has definitely earned him enough money to set himself up for life. It seems like he's just chasing bonus achievements at this point in his career.
Hadn't stopped to listen to the new Nas X song until after watching this video. I think the Jesus Christ marketing might just be more polarizing because the last real big one was the "Devil worshipping" (though like he explained it wasn't that at all) of the "Montero" rollout. I feel like instead of the Jesus-imagery, Nas X could've made the marketing themed around Michael Jordan's comeback the first time with the Bulls. Had a whole skit around the infamous fax as the first announcement of new music. The video could be catered around moments from The Last Dance, like Rodman's vacation to Vegas, the flu game, and even do a Space Jam parody where he's playing against the Devil still, but make it so it's more like the Mon-stars. Idk, this was just the thought that came to mind after watching the videos.
He could have but he wanted to use christian image. He wanted to do this. He wanted to cause controversy. He knew and wanted the hate he would get and knew he'd get support from those who are anti Christianity. He could have done a lot of things differently. He chose not to.

Personally I view Lil Nas X path similar to Tyler The Creator the only chance he has to maintain his relevancy is to ditch the controversy and home in on his musical craft and develop as an Artist,He really needs his "Sunflower Boy" to keep him on relevent or he will just die in popularity as a fleeting memory of short term controversy
Dude's quite talented, but he leans a little too hard on shock value--which, yes, _will_ get you in the spotlight...but not for long. As long as he keeps putting out quality stuff, though, he'll be alright.
Being edgy and controversial can only take you so far if you don’t have that much musical skill or talent to propel it. And his attempts at continually being controversial started becoming obnoxious. And it’s as if it’s the only act or joke he has.
The craziest part about all of this is that if it were any other religion there would be outrage. If he dressed up as Buddha or mocked the Hindu culture he would be immediately called out. So why is it ok to mock Christianity especially when it is not the only religion in the world that is against same sex anything? I’m not saying these ideals are ok but I do think the hypocrisy is very loud and obnoxious. Doing something you know has offended millions of people in the past is not “art” it’s just simply offensive. Mocking something people dedicate their lives to believing and fulfilling is not edgy, it’s just mean regardless of the religion it’s being aimed towards.
You can’t say “if it was any other religion there would be outrage”, when there is outrage. You don’t need to make comparison of or imagine outrage from other religions when there’s already outrage when it’s about Christianity
He’s not a “genius” lmao. He took advantage of dumb gimmicks and controversial takes. That’s not genius, that’s just lame and manipulative. Don’t give this punk that kind of credit it’s disrespectful to real geniuses

He sounds like he doesn't even know what he's talking about which leads me to believe he never really had a clear vision for his 'art' which he probably just did to cause controversy as a marketing tactic. But controversy is only validified if the the work itself is strong and holds true to a certain belief or sentiment. Which his clearly does not.
He says he's not some demon when that's the thing he wanted people to believe he was all of this time. This is the thing I don't like about these modern artists; you want everyone to believe that you are this thing until you don't. You don't get to play it like dress-up. Once you put-on the costume, it's yours for life. Edit: I love the way you ended the video, but I would add that he didn't just build his career upon controversy, but rather lies, in particular. People don't seem to understand that the way you come-up is the way you will fall. If you get your big break by doing something deceptive and/or dishonest, you won't have honest fans because you didn't get it honest'. The man grew to great heights after starting-off with a fake Twitter account, that he later lied about. This was bound to happen.
All he does is doing something super controversial that get people mad so they talk about him but apparently it became so tiring to the point that they stopped being mad anymore and thus no publicity for him thats why his last song flopped
“And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death.” James 1:13-15 NLT
I agree he’s amazing and people do clearly care about him. People just need to stop expecting him to always release hits as huge as Old town road all the time.
He goes out of his way to use controversial imagery to sell his album because he knows controversy sells, he knows that getting people angry brings attention and that attention will bring money. Then he wants to act like he didn't just go out of his way to piss people off, that he's a victim of homophobia or people are just being hypocrites. People see through this shit and that's why they're mad. That apology was weak af too, "I'm back like Jesus" yea right lol.
Its not just that he's not the first rapper to dress up as Jesus. Hes not even the first rapper named Nas to dress up as Jesus in a music video. Nas was literally being crucified on" Hate Me Now"

He's not Muslim, why would he make that? You Christians really want to see other religions being mocked, huh? Doesn't the Bible tell yall to do unto others what you would want to be done onto you? If you get upset at seeing Jesus mocked, why would you want to see other people's religions mocked?
We already know that these pathetic 'celebrities' would never ever have the cajones to do that. Us Christians are easy targets to them because they know that actual believers know the teachings of Jesus which tell us to turn the other cheek and pray for our enemies. I would, however, love to see one of them be bold enough to try? It would be interesting and I sometimes wonder if it would come to pass within my lifetime.

I feel like instead of the Jesus-imagery, Nas X could've made the marketing themed around Michael Jordan's comeback the first time with the Bulls. It just seems like it was never about his music and just about him being a gay hip hop artist with a social media following. I just do no care about complete strangers that much to follow that daily.
I wouldn't be surprised if he will start mocking other religions
He won't ...
He hasn't the courage.
Yeah he should try mocking Islam, especially Muhammad, that's going to go well for him
he actually started as a nicki minaj hater and was behind a lil kim stan account. and eventually became a nicki minaj fan. nicki probably knew that he was once a nicki hater so she never agreed to collab with him.
That "apology" was full of shxx 🙄
No matter what he does you will get mad at him. He makes chill music and you will get mad at him for “trying to change”
@@Jarrad_utft no, not really.
@@Jarrad_utft If he's a genius, he knows what he's doing. If he's clueless, then he acts a lot smarter than he is.
Which is it? Honestly, like the video title, I just don't really care. He can sort out his demons by himself if he so wishes.
Who cares, he didn’t even need to apologize. I don’t like his music, but y’all acting like christianity is untouchable. Its not, the world is so much bigger than your beliefs
He is now experimenting new styles. He recently collabed with Kevin Abstract that probably nobody knows about.
7:17 I’m not a Christian but I agree and completely understand bro. He’s literally doing what he believes he’s put in this earth to do and Nas was purposely being antagonistic
He was a one trick pony and the majority of rap fans didn't appreciate that one trick...
Bro made a career copying lil Tracy
I feel like the same could be said for Doja tbh!
15:15 He gained respect for this apology, from me atleast. Seemed really genuine. While I am a Catholic, and choose to live my life based on Catholic values, I understand that some hard core Christian’s views on gays can cause Gay people to dislike Christian’s. Understandable I think. He could hate on Christian’s and mock them, yet here it seems like he really does respect everyone, no matter who they are or what values they choose to live by. I’ll give him another shot!
So naive! Open your eyes.
Being controversial is what makes it all interesting. However anything in amounts too copious is detrimental. So this gimmick doesn't work for him anymore.
As a gay guy he's the type of gays I try and avoid.
Oh daym
That's whiplash
"i'm one of the good gays, conservatives please like meeee"
@@queenofyasrabien i just don't like people who make their sexuality the main thing about them. Like being gay is great. You don't have to show everyone your gay every chance you get.
@@chrisbuckley1785 straight people do nothing else BUT stress their heterosexuality all the time in their music. they cannot shut up about it. but when queer people do it it's wrong and makes queer people look bad?
I wish Robert Townsend would come back with more films. I miss his work and I respect what he stands for as a person. As long as you are alive; it is still your time. ❤
