At least I was a tad more interested in this plot than in the 1992 film. In that film, I found the plot completely unmemorable and the characters sucked as well. Tom and Jerry talked as well which was egregiously bad as well. Here, I at least got somewhat into the characters. “Tamara, better luck next time. I’m afraid it’s Hell for you.” *Tamara drops down a Hell hole* That was actually the funniest thing I’ve seen on this show from my twelve years of watching.
I’m guessing the only difference between this movie and the straight-to-dvd Tom and Jerry movies is that this one -got- -a- was supposed to get a theatrical release
I saw an add for this movie on youtube claiming that “while your children are watching it, you’ll get a break.” I immediately knew this movie was gonna be bad after seeing that.
Wow. An outright admission of "We got nothing, but it could serve as a distraction to your kids at least". Well, I guess at least it's honest marketing.
Translation: "We really don't care about the people who know Tom and Jerry enough to give us money to have their children watch it so we're gonna make the next hour and 40 minutes a living hell for them instead of putting in effort."
Honestly, I still think "Tom and Jerry: The Fast and the Furry" is the best Tom and Jerry movie out there. It was actually funny, well animated and the writing was good. The only other movie I could compare it with would be "Tom and Jerry: Blast off to Mars" which comes in second. It's also sad though that these two might be the ONLY good Tom and Jerry movies we'll ever get.
They used Original characters in each film and out of all the characters aside from Tom, Jerry, and Spike. Biff Buzzard and Buzz Blister were the only ones that appeared in both films.
Tom and Jerry just don't need to be a movie. There's a reason the original show was based around short stories. They aren't story driven characters. They are just slap stick based comedy.
Kind of reminds me of the joke about the busker with a dog playing the violin and a cat singing opera - one of the audience praises the animals and the busker says "Nah, it's all fake. The cat can't sing - the dog's a ventriloquist"

THANK YOU!!!!! You're one of the few to acknowledge this. How others overlook or just brush it off is beyond me. She contributes to every bad thing that happens.
Moretz has had a few false starts after 'Kick Ass'. That movie "I Love You, Daddy" she was set to star in was cancelled due to the MeToo movement gaining momentum & the live action version of "The Little Mermaid" she was also to star in was dropped also. Actresses do movies like this because: 'The Show Must Go On'.
Michael Peña is a good and versatile actor, too. I blame the directing, because everyone is acting weird and unconvincing. Like Doug said, as if they were filmed during final rehearsals.
I admit I had never seen Chloe Grace Moretz (or at least had never taken a close look at her before) until now, and the first thing that flashed through my mind was - no offense to any fans of hers - how much her face looks like a latex mask. She reminds me of the disguises in WHITE CHICKS.
"He's a little animated" had me laughing the most. Sometimes you just have to let the movie have their one joke like that, and I thought it was perfect. The rest of the movie.... not so much. I actually enjoyed the live action plot much more than the Tom & Jerry bits.

I do have a personal problem with how Tom and Jerry are played here; for the cartoons to work, Tom has to be the designated antagonist and while Jerry need not always be super sympathy he still needs to be slighted at first... here both have a goal (Tom to play the piano and Jerry to find a home) but Jerry is the one who starts the conflict. Jerry is filling the role of antagonist instead of Tom who ends up looking like the nicer of the two. So while the slapstick works pretty much on point this role reversal changes the context and their dynamic, consequently making Tom's injuries far less justified
Exactly! To me, Jerry is nothing but a dick in this movie. Even when the girl politely asked him to leave, he just stole the bride's ring and refused to give it back unless she lets him stay. That's not funny, that's blackmailing.
@@kittycatmeowmeow963 You didn't watch enough Tom and Jerry back in the day. Sometimes, Tom was doing his job as a cat and protecting his home. In others, Tom would be minding his own business and Jerry would appear on the scene and when Jerry couldn't win, he'd usually get someone bigger and stronger to hang around to be safe or beat up Tom for him, Like Spike, Jerry's cousin, Uncle, The Mother Duck, Mother Hen, Elephant, Kangaroo, and so on. Jerry is USUALLY a dick to Tom, where lots of times Jerry's presence is a threat to his home, well-being, or relationships. Tom wasn't ALWAYS the antagonist.
@@kittycatmeowmeow963 jerry was an antagonist in his own right to humans as well, they made him go extra far, but he was shown to be downright diabolical to get people to leave him alone.
Sometimes I mourn the fact that there's no Calvin and Hobbes movie. Then I see what's happened to Tom and Jerry. I am now glad there's no Calvin and Hobbes movie.
It’s still better than the 1992 film, as they don’t talk minus the scene where Tom sings. Though I can forgive that part. It was actually pretty funny.
the movie loses the spark that the original has. Nothing feels like Tom and Jerry besides the bland versions of Tom and Jerry in the movie. The producers just don't see the appeal of the classic versions and believes that adding relevance and "mature" substance will entertain the targeted demographics. And speaking of producers, some of them are really cringe.
But clearly not made by the same creative team. Seriously, now I'm imagining about what if Phil Lord and Christipher Miller did this film. It probably would've been 100 times better. They're experts on animation.
@@Rgoid yeah I agree. I liked the final version of the cgi design in the film, but I would've much preferred doing a Roger Rabbit thing and have an anime-style Sonic fight in the real world. I think it would've looked better and would've allowed for more creative possibilities with the action.

I guess if they’re going to do the crossover movies anyway, then Scooby Doo might be one that would jive with Tom and Jerry the most. Both were made by Hanna Barbara, and I can totally see the dog/cat angle working out. Didn't he already review Back in Action? He did mini Reviews of all the looney tunes movies prior to Space jam 2021 and Rabbits Run from 2016. He said the movie was trying to recapture the looney tunes spirit and they tried but fell short, I personally liked the movie my favorite scene was the chase scene when they were in Las Vegas. As a NASCAR fan seeing Jeff Gordon's car in a major motion picture was a pretty big deal.
Imma take SomecallmeJohnnys word for this and my thoughts about the movie. “I use to love it but once what I thought that was good became average and what I thought was average is just straight up bad”. There’s some good parts but still pretty mediocre 4 out of 10
17:22, 17:28 Note: Hannibal (which Droopy appeared ) is apparently but currently owned by Amazon's MGM (via Orion Pictures), for which the same company originated from Tom and Jerry and other MGM Cartoon properties (including Tex Avery's Droopy) since Ted Turner acquired the rights for pre-May 1986 MGM library and later merged with Warner in 1996 and WB also distributed some Amazon's MGM products in physical home media worldwide.
What surprise me is that in the tiger scene they show Paolo Bonolis, a television host, who interact with Delaney. I don't know why is in this movie but... it put a smile in my face because he is of the few things I save of this movie. 🇮🇹
Yeah, I'm split on this film. I really enjoyed the scenes where it's just them causing mayhem, but that should've been the whole film. And even if it's not great, it's still better than the original movie. They don't talk and they mostly interact with the plot.
As Rotten Tomatoes puts it: "It isn't the worst of the long-squabbling duo's feature-length adventures, but Tom & Jerry is disappointingly short on the anarchic spirit of their classic shorts." In other words, the General consensus is it's not bad and animation buffs have cited it's better than the '92 movie (not that that's saying much) as the story is at least built around Tom and Jerry's antics, with praise given for the models being true to the source, cameos of fellow characters from Tom and Jerry lore, and consistency of the animals being tradtionally animated instead of being realistically computer-generated. But the movie is still bogged down due to the human side plot taking up much of the time and being distracting from what audiences really came for, plus the animation not being perfect (likely a result of COVID hindering post-production) and some disapproval of the music choices which feel out of place. Overall, while it could've been better, it's still an acceptable watch that did have its heart in the right place.
@@averymerrick It feels pretty lazy, and also could you at the very least say "TV Tropes put it best in my opinion" before you copy paste the rest? It's not really nice to copy someone else's words and try to make them pass as yours, especially something lengthy like that.
Yeah, of all the Tom and Jerry movies that came out, this seems to be the better one. And compared to Tom and Jerry: The Movie, it doesn't need to do a whole lot.
Really? I didn’t think the slapstick looked solid and painful at all, I think it looks really weak, the fact that they just have the tiny yellow hit effects with no hard hitting sound effects or camera vibrations makes it feel a lot less painful

They injected too much plot into this one. We need and Tom and Jerry film that’s not too plot heavy but still original to their formula.
At least I was a tad more interested in this plot than in the 1992 film.
In that film, I found the plot completely unmemorable and the characters sucked as well. Tom and Jerry talked as well which was egregiously bad as well.
Here, I at least got somewhat into the characters. And Tom and Jerry didn’t talk (minus the scene where Tom sings, though that was kind of funny).

THANK YOU!!!!! You're one of the few to acknowledge this. How others overlook or just brush it off is beyond me. She contributes to every bad thing that happens.
Motetz is a talented actress. I kind of want to blame the directing for the weird performance.

@@Luke-3281 Shut up!
20:07 - THE joke of the review. I laughed AND applauded.

This episode was inevitable, and I am so happy it came
As Rotten Tomatoes puts it: "It isn't the worst of the long-squabbling duo's feature-length adventures, but Tom & Jerry is disappointingly short on the anarchic spirit of their classic shorts." In other words, the General consensus is it's not bad and animation buffs have cited it's better than the '92 movie (not that that's saying much) as the story is at least built around Tom and Jerry's antics, with praise given for the models being true to the source, cameos of fellow characters from Tom and Jerry lore, and consistency of the animals being tradtionally animated instead of being realistically computer-generated.
