This song was piece speaks without words. it doesn't just speak, it tells you a story and has a full on conversation with you about the happiest things in the World. I can't listen without smiling.
i love the clarinet's long squawk at the beginning. It's one of the many parts of this piece that make it so wonderful. My favorite part of this the chunk featured in United Airlines commercials xD
When someone mentions quintessentially "American" composers, thoughts immediately race to Sousa and Copland. But I'll warrant that Gershwin, specifically with Rhapsody in Blue, is the epitome of the American sound. A hybrid of styles, a bit subversive, wholly fresh for its time, and unmistakably brilliant. One of my all time favorite tunes.
have read MANY comments, Paoli, fantastic.....maybe I'm a musical troglodyte, but I LOVED all of it...my favorite rendition of my favorite piece of music. #sothere
this is one of my favorite songs of the soundtrack of my life. I love to listen George Gershwin play in my Steinway Duo Art Reproducing Piano If you love piano music, why don't you buy a Reproducing player piano made in the 20's and 30's and listen this kind of music Paola Bruni Play very well...I am sure Gershwin likes her style...
recently, my taste in music has split. i used to listen to muse, red hot chili peppers. i now only really listen to dubstep and early 20th century concertos and orchestra pieces. correct me if im wrong, but im currently thinking that this is a pretty unique aspect of me...
I hope those are glasses, otherwise that's a very strange hairdo. ;) A lovely rendition of one of my favorite pieces. Thank you for sharing it! I've spend a good part of this evening listening to piano and I'm likely to make my way through your catalog next...
I adore this song. (Im ashamed to say that although I've heard of the name for YEARS, i didn't actually LISTEN to it until by accident while watching Nodame Cantabile. Fail.)
This is not jazz. It is the concert version of a piece inspired in a sort of jazz sound and ideas mixed with classical music common practice elements. Improvisation is out of the question here. Ther is another version written by Gershwin for piano and jazz band which maybe is more near in spirit to some kind of jazz, but again, if you expect a jam session, you are looking in the wrong place
I heard the original concert, so many times that I know when other orchestras make a mistake, in the symphony. It is very unsettling when you listen to it. Not what the master wanted.
And to think... Jazz used to be looked down upon as the "Devil's Music" when Gershwin was heavily influenced by it. There are so many aspects of Jazz in this composition.
I've listened to you play this song for over 4 years now. Simply AMAZING. Just curious... My grandmother was a classical pianist. There was an audition for other pianists to study for 6 weeks under Rotobert Casadesus. They picked her! She loved it. If you have some time or want to, check her out. She's on my youtube. There are only 5 songs. They were recorded reel to reel. One of her astute students took the reels to a music studio and got them transferred to a CD. Hope you enjoy!
@sixxteenbits United Airlines, actually. Search youtube for "United Airlines Gershwin". I thought it was a terrific choice; actually made it pleasant to hear the ads.
Well, jazz is a broad category, and although improvisation is a large part of it, not all jazz includes improvisation. Rhapsody in Blue may not include improv, but it is jazz influenced in it's tonal color and it's style.
She was masterful, and absolutely amazing, but the overall orchestra was somewhat saddening to listen to. :( I am still blown away by her speed, and the timing she chose, as well as her touch...she would be amazing to listen to recorded or up close to the piano since she is so dynamic in her playing style.
+TheShomare Thank you so much!! Soon my new website will be available on the web around mid December with a lot of new videos with close up recordings :) .... hope you'll like it! Many demo and promo will be here on RUclips
@aalg4c Doesn't have to be the piano's fault. Could be a bad recording...there was a good recording on the Arts channel with a Marcus Robert (pianist) though.
I think the people in this video should ask the person who posted before me to record a video of his/herself doing a better job playing a gershwin song.
@JAMESMCCULLA OH HELL NO!!!!!!!!!! Lady Gaga needs to just stick to being weird. I hope the only musicians to touch this brilliant piece are those who truly understand music! Not those who understand only controversy!
It's funny that because she doesn't bob in and out like a moron people don't think there's expression in her playing. You don't have to make out with the keyboard to put emotion into your instrument. I was always the same, to sway my body around like a fool was embarrassing, but that didn't mean I couldn't play emotionally. I don't believe half of you are even listening to the music and are just watching HOW she's playing it.
@aalg4c Doesn't have to be the piano's fault. Could be a bad recording...there was a good recording on the Arts channel with a Marcus Robert (pianist) though.
I love this piece!!!! And she played it so wonderfully!!
This song was piece speaks without words. it doesn't just speak, it tells you a story and has a full on conversation with you about the happiest things in the World. I can't listen without smiling.
I love Paola Bruni's talent -- so fluid!!!
Снова, Вы делаете Gershwin гордый! Ваш оркестр превосходен! Спасибо за предоставление РАПСОДИИ В СИНЕМ с таким сердцем! ~ Джанет Томпсон Дивер

I cannot get enough Rhapsody in Blue in my life, sadly.
have read MANY comments, Paoli, fantastic.....maybe I'm a musical troglodyte, but I LOVED all of it...my favorite rendition of my favorite piece of music. #sothere

I love this song!
Gershwin è meravigliosa la sua musica
shivers. everytime. 1:09 on...phenomonal. why can't all classical music be so powerful?
The Trombone is the unseen & true star to this piece! Wah. Wah. Oo Wahrr!
Gotta love the clarinet solo...
this is one of my favorite songs of the soundtrack of my life.

That is a rather impressive performance

Dear Paola! You are amazing!!! Best wishes from Ukraine for you!!
Simply amazing!
Espectacular!
I hope those are glasses, otherwise that's a very strange hairdo. ;)
A lovely rendition of one of my favorite pieces. Thank you for sharing it! I've spend a good part of this evening listening to piano and I'm likely to make my way through your catalog next...
Excellent...
Why? Is it forbidden? Have you ever seen Alfred Brendel or Julius Katchen, just to mention 2 pianists wearing glasses?
Well Im first horn for it, not a piano player, haha, BUT IM PLAYING IT TOOO AND ITS UHMAZING IM SO EXCITED!
well done you are the best
''We are United''
@soaringvulture Whoa, you are totally right. Somehow I had this really clear memory in my head of it being AA.
OMGOSH!!!! ME too!!!!!!!!!!!!
I adore this song.
(Im ashamed to say that although I've heard of the name for YEARS, i didn't actually LISTEN to it until by accident while watching Nodame Cantabile. Fail.)
well said buddy +1 thumbs up for you
The clarinet was the best!

@montgomery7 Haven't heard much beyond "White Winter Hymnal" but after your rec I've been checking them out, great stuff.
Nice and strong low brass section.

q bueno el temma !!!!
I never heard of Geroge Gershwin, is he any good? Is he better than George Gershwin?
Gershwin - Rhapsody in Blue
Nice performance
Ms. Bruni, Which Orchestra were you performing this with? :)
@aalg4c Doesn't have to be the piano's fault. Could be a bad recording...there was a good recording on the Arts channel with a Marcus Robert (pianist) though.
I've never heard the first clarinet line played like that.
Smashed that glissando
THAT'S jazz for you... Which is what this is, according to Gershwin's intentions
@Martysjournal American Airlines, actually. :)
@Verseabl
I stand corrected.
@imnotactuallythisold It's called a glissando, not a "squawk"..
@sixxteenbits Well Said!
who is that clarinet player? nice crack and intonation...
verry good job. the clarinet in the beging needed to slow down a hair at the fast parts
i love this piece but i don't think the part of clarinet at the start is in that way!
@pepestropajo Have you watched fantasia 2000?
It's the Greatest Fucking Movie Ever Made in History.
good
Where can I find the sheet music for 6:37? (:
@JWFan221 Haha, same ere
@venskus2009
A butterknife is good too...
Issa dair a Drum ana Bass version too diss enibody?
I think the people in this video should ask the person who posted before me to record a video of his/herself doing a better job playing a gershwin song.
Olympics united airlines commercial brought me here :)
@Auggie56 ...why do yall say keyboard -_- call it a piano...keyboard sends me to electronic crappy touch failpiano...a piano is different
@payoprez it sounded terribly, 0.03 0.07 is also funny
@TrevorKingKwong its most likely an oboe.
The clarinet at the start is a bit crap...
I love the pianist; she's so good~~but i rather remain silent about the orchetra =.=
someone should have hired me to play clarinet on this piece... just sayin.
No Red blue is Diana
I gess your not wearing yours!!!
the clarinet solo wasn't the best, but the rest of it was superb
@pepestropajo someone will steal your ipod
maybe an asthmatic?
The dress should have been blue ;-)
@JAMESMCCULLA OH HELL NO!!!!!!!!!! Lady Gaga needs to just stick to being weird. I hope the only musicians to touch this brilliant piece are those who truly understand music! Not those who understand only controversy!
@muted Trumpet xD
@OmGiTsHoPeY
what does it matter if a pianist slouches or not? If it sounds good, then who cares?
It's funny that because she doesn't bob in and out like a moron people don't think there's expression in her playing. You don't have to make out with the keyboard to put emotion into your instrument.
I was always the same, to sway my body around like a fool was embarrassing, but that didn't mean I couldn't play emotionally.
I don't believe half of you are even listening to the music and are just watching HOW she's playing it.
It was decent but there is a lot of room for improvement.
she picked the wrong color for her dress... er... the seat is the wrong color for her dress :P
tom and jerry
The Clari should've been outfront!
Thought the pianist was quite good, but the orchestra just didn't swing enough, kinda stiff.
Such a wonderful tune ripe with the American sound..too bad he had such pagan and unsocialist themes..gladly they are not heard in this tune.
i don0t like so much that version oh gershwin's rhapsody
George Bush....
"Does this piano bench make my butt look big?" ;-)
Liked the pianist, didn´t like the orchestra so much...
What kind of ignorant statement is this? There is a sizable Jewish American community in the U.S.
the orchestra ruined it all
@aalg4c Doesn't have to be the piano's fault. Could be a bad recording...there was a good recording on the Arts channel with a Marcus Robert (pianist) though.
