      Do you have a VCM muzzler installed on your v6 accord? My 2005 honda odyssey was also burning 1qt every 1k with vcm. After installing VCM tuner, oil consumption reduced drastically as it only lost about 0.5qt at 5k.

      Son has a 2009 accord v6, problem was so bad that he was fouling out spark plugs on the back bank after about a week or so. Honda indicated this was known issue and only real resolution was to re-ring the back bank at about a $4k cost...suggested using BG products to buy some time. Used BG EPR treatment for 2 oil changes in a row, oil burning went away, spark plugs quit fouling, and that was 3 years ago. Going to suggest he uses this restore and protect going forward, though, seems like it works well.

    I started off using Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-20 in my 2017 Toyota Camry with the 2.5 with 18,900 on it. When I got up to 180,000 miles. I started using Valvoline Restore and Protect 0W-20 and I noticed right away that the engine was super quiet and when I removed the valve cover. The inside of the engine looked like brand new. Even the cylinder bores showed no signs of wear. I'll definitely keep using this oil.

    3 oil changes ago at 3000 mile oil changes. Kia rio 190,000 now . Went to 5-30 w. My oil consumption is down also. I won't share all the maintenance I've done recently. I did alot of cleaning when I replaced injector o rings, cleaning of tops of valves with some crc, new valve cover gasket, intake, and throttle body gasket. I'm really pleased with the oil. I did a compression test before all this and one was lower than minimum required so I know the rings are worn as normal at this milage. I learned so much by jumping into my new car care mindset. • @jdm2gdm
      @jdm2gdm 4 месяца назад +8

      Depending on how bad your consumption is, you might have a bore scoring/bore wear issue which this will not fix. This is a common problem on higher mileage Priuses due to low tension rings and 10K+ mile oil changes (both due to government regulations, you know, the people who aren't experts on anything making laws on everything.) If this fixes your problem, start doing 5K mile oil changes (yes, even with synthetic). 10K+ mile oil changes aren't good for any engine's longevity, regardless of the type of oil used.

If it returns, remove the air cleaner snorkel and open the throttle plate…oil pooling and tracking up into the snorkel are a BIG SIGN on these cars that the rings are shot and you’re getting blow bye past the rings. I have a 2008 Scion tC with the 2AZ-FE engine known for burning oil. I was burning a quart every 200 miles or so. Also have to admit that I was just adding cheap gas station brand oil as needed, not doing a full change on schedule with that consumption rate. I did a full change with this a week ago before two long road trips. In those road trips, I probably put 1000 miles on. It burned 4-5 quarts of R and P! But here we are a week later, and the oil is black already even though it’s been topped off in that time. For the turbo, high output folks, I wouldn't use Castrol personally if engine longevity is your goal. I recently bought an 03 Ford Taurus that was extremely low miles. I discovered that it had many hours of idling time on its 3.0 motor. I’ve replaced the entire ignition system, and I just changed over to Restore & Protect 5w20. I’m hopeful it cures its oil consumption as well. I lost a pint in 1500 miles. After a few thousand miles oil would start to get lower on the dipstick after changing the oil, not enough to be concerned but it bothered me enough. It never had blue smoke from the tailpipe either or leaks. I’m wondering since it must of sat for a while, the rings didn’t get seated enough and it would burn oil a little. I could go 3k to 4k and the oil on the dipstick would be somewhere between the middle of the stick. So it wasn’t excessive. I’ve since sold it, but should have kept it.

    If you’re not putting this oil in a new car, I definitely recommend that you change your oil filter every 200 - 300 miles, because if it removes any sludge, it’s coming down to the filter and it will clog your oil filter. After you change your filter two or three times and you opening it and seeing that it’s not full of sludge then you can go to changing it with your regular oil change intervals however, if you don’t know how dirty your engine is and it has a lot of buildup. It’s going to come down into that filter.

I followed the instruction to drain and fill four times and started in early April 2024. Just did my 4th drain and fill this week and oil was very clean and right at the full mark before the drain. So we started at 200K burning oil and now after 50% city stop and go with the rest being highway driving only change element was the use of Valvoline R&P. Note: power has increased perhaps due to greater compression. This is the real deal product for any owner of any Toyota 2AZ-FXE looking to reduce or eliminate oil burning due to the oil control ring design defect in that engine.

    Thank you for posting this. I just purchased a used 2009 Pontiac vibe (toyota matrix) with the 2.4l, for my daughter. I just did the first oil change with conventional synthetic. Ill be paying attention to her rate of oil burn, if any. Then, if we are seeing any burn, ill try this Valvoline for sure. Was thinking, in the first oil change with clean and Restore, ill NOT change the filter (at first), put in the new Valvoline, run it for about 200-300 miles,.and THEN change the filter with a new one. That way i can use the older filter to accumulate most of the potential gunk this new oil might break free. For years, i pretty much used Mobil 1 on all our vehicles. At times, i would use Valvoline synthetic, and most recently, super tech synthetic. If this new clean and Restore helps, it will become my new go to.

      I have a 2007 Vibe with 260k miles on it. It’s the 1.8 L. In 5k intervals, it only goes down 1/8 inch on the dipstick. So this engine doesn’t really use oil.

    • @louofm1
      @louofm1 4 месяца назад

      @@slalomking 1.8l typically do not burn. The problem lies in the 2.4l Toyota, through about 2009. I believe that the issue was fixed later in 2009 or 2010, so im not yet sure if mine was or was not affected

    • @louofm1

      Update, i calculated about 1 quart of burn/consumption about every 1000 on her orginal oil change of supertech full synthetic, over almost 4000 miles. We were careful to add a quart every time she got down to the bottom mark, on dipstick. This is on a 2.4L toyota powertrain with about 164000 miles, currently. The culprit is likely oil ring carbon deposits (on low tension rings). A week ago, I removed the old filter and supertech oil (which was still very clean), and replaced it with Valvoline restore and protect. It may take some time but im hoping for a reduction oil consumption rates. I'll try to add updates. Btw, I've heard such great things about this oil that I have already installed it in my high mileage 2010 nissan altima, and my sons 2006 impala. Neither car burn any oil, but I figured it would be a great product to help keep the internals in top shape. My wife's newer equinox will get it next time too.

Anecdotal information is what I base my suggestions along with my own personal experience. The additive package is proprietary, meaning it's not fully released how it is they are accomplishing the results we are all witnessing. Only a matter of time before a competitor takes notice of the craze and begins reverse engineering a similar solution. For now, this has been the best consumer grade oil I've tried. Smoother engine, quieter idle, more throttle response, 5-10% increased mpg, and the oil seems to be cleaning inside the valve cover. Oil is darker after only 1200 miles compared to Mobil 1 EP or similar high end consumer oils. And the price is a bargain for performance, $30/5 quart.
