  • First run of Valvoline Restore & Protect complete. Oil change performed at 2692 miles. Used oil analysis shows the oil is protecting adequately. The filter used for the first 1000 miles was a Wix 51522 and the filter used for the last 1692 miles was an AC Delco PF61E. Watch to the end to find out about a catastrophic failure (Not engine or V R&P related).

The engineer in me loves the scientific analysis behind this

0:17 Wix filter (non-XP) and Valvoline Restore and Protect. I like where this video is going already! Instant subscriber. 2:10 I think Lake Speed went over those viscosity ratings and American oils tend to lean on the thinner side *by grade* when new, and that rating degrades with usage. It's something to consider, especially for longer oil change intervals and in high temperature settings, and you are correct to point it out.

Wix XP is a very good oil filter 💯

It might be a good filter but Is it flowing the proper amount of oil like an AC Delco that was designed for that engine.

I am on my 2nd oil change using Valvoline Restore & Protect on my 2006 Honda Accord V6 and i don't see any different on my car. i don't see MPG improvent or engine performance different.

That oil is good to clean out engine. After cleaning I would switch to Ulta Platinum or Royal Purple. Try each see if MPG go up.

Your oil additive and wear packages are looking great. I only do 5000-mile OCI and you can easily do that too. Your oil did not sheer out of weight and is just fine. Lots of misinformation in the comments. You should be good to go a full 5000 and do another UOA.

So what was the failure??? and why?

I thought that was the engines oil pan with all the metal in it at first lol. 5w30 VRP starts at 10.8 cst when new which is already on the low side of 30w. I noticed most UOA on this 5w30 VRP have viscosities around 8-9 cst

Not the engine oil pan LoL.

After that short milage, the cst should not be that low.

@@jamieb9556if this oil cleans and breaks down deposits like it claims i can see why it would lose viscosity as it gets more contaminated

I don't like how Blackstone says what normal viscosity is. That oil dropped to a 20 grade, but they're claiming that's in range.

BTW valvoline have a special going on right now, I bought 6 1-gallon jug, take a pic of my reciept and they gave me $5 for every jug via VENMO, so essentially I got it for 25 bucks

How come such a short Oil change interval?

    • @RevandShinewithRiley

No particular reason other than sometimes life gets in the way and I’d rather change it early than do an extended interval on its (probably) first run on synthetic oil.

Used r and p on my well maintained 01 Ford V10, and 1:42 it dried out my valve seals. Changed to Penzoil ultra platinum drove for 400 miles, no more smoke at start-up. I'll never use Valvoline r and p again..

VR&P isn’t about an engine staying clean. If a vehicle’s oil control rings aren’t frozen, and the vehicle is therefore not consuming oil, then any oil will do.
Valvoline is essentially getting at the market(and it’s huge due to what OEMs did in the late 00s with low tension rings) that is currently burning oil. Or, like me, driving a vehicle with a long standing TSB for oil consumption that isn’t yet consuming oil but wishes to hedge against the possibility it will develop.
So far one is hard pressed to find someone claiming VR&P doesn’t work as advertised. There are now countless reviews stating it has decreased the rate of engine oil consumption.
If a person really knows their engine, has always scrupulously maintained their oil change interval and the vehicle isn’t burning oil, they have no need for this product. That, however, is a small fraction of the motoring public. Due to this reality, Valvoline is going to make a killing on this stuff.

Those are old seals i am not surprised it caused a leak. I would still use occasionally R&P to clean then go back to my usual oil
