    I think you should include price, standard accessories and maintenance plans/cost of maintenance into the test as it has an effect al to which would be a good compromise. Every ute has strong an weak points, you just choose a compromise that works for you.

    Love it! Well done guys! Interesting how the Amarok got 2nd place just because it does not have airbags in the rear! LOL! Think that says a lot since it is the oldest among them. Like the look of the Ranger though.

    They should do a 4 cylinder turbo comparison. Why compare a 5 cylinder into a 4 cylinder?
    5 cylinder = +++ insurance, +++ registration fee.

    Ranger with its electronic power steering best 4X4 ute in 2015? LOOOLLL!! If I want an electric feeling car I will buy a Prius. Maybe Toyota can claim top stop next year by releasing a prius 4X4 Ute.

    Great review, Toyota would be well advised to retire the Hilux brand in Asia (as the new model is average at best and still over the top expensive) and release the Tacoma, especially now the mining industry in Australia cant keep propping up their over all sales numbers............just a thought.

      I don't think it's fair to put wildtrak in this comparison because the displacement is different. Wildtrak is 3.2 while the others are below that number. Yet wildtrak is more expensive than the others.

      Oh, if I wanted to buy a pick up I'd go for the most fuel efficient one with a budget of course. 20mpg or 30kpg would be great. But I can't find any forums that actually gives out proper specs and not propaganda to buy their brand.

    After reading the comments, I think Saudis and Australians share the same concept for Toyota Hilux, which is the top selling small size pick up truck here in Saudi Arabia.
    In my opinion, yes it has the least options and tech, mainly in the safety department, but it is the most reliable truck in this category with high reselling price as used truck, reasonably cheap parts and easy maintenance.
    When people buy a small truck, they usually focus on the practical part more than options and other stuff.

      +Dean van der Merwe I disagree. Watching these videos are part of the research. It sets up bullet points for us before we go out and compare them ourselves. Rather than testing 8 brands out there (each car with different trims, engine, and gearbox), these reviews help shrinks down our option so we are more focused on comparing the best of the bunch.

    Wtf ranger is an absolute sack... definitely worst on the list... and I have a massive checklist, ranger is an absolute cheap piece of shit, & what tech... it's interior is the worst out of them all & more out dated than a 2005 hilux.
    Throttle response is hideous, lacks power, lack accessories, instrument cluster is sad & the entire centre console is very cheap with a cheap disfuncional head unit.
    Mash the throttle intermittently & your gearbox will have a fit & not know what you want.
    Put your foot flat to overtake someone & It won't jump back a gear nor will it overtake anything... very slow... dry disappointing.
    In no way is this a bias call what so ever, I was in love with the ford Ranger so much and I really wanted to buy one, until I test drove everything above three times in the last month deciding what ute to buy.
    Ranger isn't even push start lol it's a peasant key...
    Hands down the Np300 Stx wins, power, luxury, fuel economy, safety, as a work rig and as a daily driver it by far wins...
    Hilux is the same except it's price, it's front bar & it's lack of tray depth aesthetically but, then again the np300 stx has a loss with coil springs not holding big weight.
    You want real feedback from the mechanic that's looking for a ute in the real world... then I'll say don't buy a ranger, so ridiculously over rated & yes that includes a wildtrack. Minimal bang for buck and lacks modern day refinement & luxuries, A basic 99 Camry has better features.

    These modern big dual cab utes are a useless yuppies vehicle made for insecure people who want to feel big and trying to look tough. You can't even fit anything of length in them. They are all show. I recall picking up a 9 ft kayak with my falcon wagon and sliding it straight in while a bloke beside me with a Colorado was scratching his arse not knowing what to do with his kayak. Dual cabs are a waste of money for frightened insecure yuppies.!!! Better off with a single cab Ute!!

    Rangers would make good trucks weekend warriors who don't push their vehicles to their limits. There's a reason why overlanders still prefer their trustworthy Toyotas. Personally, if looks were out of the picture, I would have rated the Isuzu to be the best truck of the lot. With a reliable engine and probably the nest low range torque amongst the lot, it's definitely the most practical in real world use.

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад

      +marcustya88 You are Joking, right. 380Nm of torque and a 5 speed auto transmission. Its barely a middle of the pack runner. It can tow 3500kg on a braked trailer, so thats nice otherwise there are much better options available. If you think of it objectively, wouldn't you want more features, more power, more torque for the same amount of money? I know I would...

    • @jollygoodyo
      @jollygoodyo 8 лет назад +1

      6 speed actually! Which is amazing. But if it breaks down in the middle of a third world country while you're on an overlanding trip, bless you. So really , depends on what you use it for. Also, you should check out Isuzu's flat torque curve and great fuel efficiency combined with it's lower weight- guarantee for a top performing truck. If you're rtruly looking for a pick up truck and not a pick up car, that is.

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад

      +marcustya88 Its a good job then that Im not planning any long overland trips in third world countries. I live in a 1st world country where if anything went wrong, the roadside assistance would be there in a few hours at worst. I have seen the flat torque curve and it concerns me. It seems a little artificial to me, as if it has been restricted in some way. Maybe to ensure the inferior design of the chassis or the transmission doesn't fail under the extra torque that the power plant can produce. Don't believe the hype.

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад

      +marcustya88 And on the fuel efficiency, its pushing out less power and torque so of course its going to be more fuel efficient. Also, Ive just been to the Australian and New Zealand Isuzu websites and I can't find mention of a 6 speed transmission anywhere. Please show me where it does and I will stand corrected.

Those can all shuffle down below the Bt-50 and Ranger. I think you have the Amarok in the right place but who really cares, your shortlist should only have 2 vehicles on it, right. Ford and Mazda. • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад

      Sales figures are a representation of how successful the marketing campaigns are. Toyota has simply spent more money on advertising the Hilux over the years and thats why its number1 in sales in a lot of countries. Recently people have begun to educate themselves more before spending the big bucks on a new truck and they are starting to realise that what was once the best is not so anymore. You will see Hilux slowly slide down the rankings.

      and now you will have a bad reliability and resale. Granted Ford's driving experience can't be beaten. But you arnt buying a luxury family sedan. It's a work horse.
      I think sales figures don't lie. Toyota H, out sells the competition here by miles. And we all know why.

      +alfstubedin Toyota Hilux is the third best selling car in Australia currently. That's amongst the all categories.
      And Thai made cars are in number 2 after Japanese.

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 9 лет назад +2

      +No Way Sales figures are a result of the depth of the marketing departments pockets. When common sense begins to prevail, people will begin to see that the world of Utes is passing them by. They were the best of the best and created a fantastic product which earned and deserved the King of the Hill badge but the competition has taken note and started to do something about it. Hills is simply resting on its laurels. Only 5 speed in auto and manual, are you kidding and they released this after everyone else had their new offerings out. If that is not arrogance, then I don't know what is. You talk about resale value, that one thing alone will effect the resale value drastically. Who in their right mind is going to buy a 2016 5 speed ute with less power, less torque and less towing capacity than half the other vehicles on this review, in 2 or 3 years from now. No, forget about that, who in their right mind is going to do that, NOW and then pay more for the privilege. In my humble opinion, buying one of these vehicle is going to be one of the most expensive items most people are going to buy so why not get the biggest bang for your money.

      +No Way The Ford ranger is the most sold vehicle in New Zealand. The Hilux is 3rd. I think we all know why. Most ute drivers today also want a comfortable experience, and many just use them as lifestyle vehicles rather than for work. Expect to see Australia follow the same trend as New Zealand. At the moment all signs point to the Ranger outselling the Hilux in Aus.

    Has anyone actually watched the Euro crash test videos. Firstly, children in the rear often fall under the rear airbag height so are rendered useless regarding rear airbags to protect children. Secondly, the Amarok stood up if not better than other UTE's regarding front, rear and side impacts. The rear children did not bounce around or have major jolting compared to others in its class. In my view a safer UTE by far. And the children and airbag is the excuse given for the no. 2 spot?????? No mention on servicing, repair costs, part availability, warrantee, long term use and costs with real world milage...... WOW!!!! Which company paid the most money for this review then :) ?

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад

      +sauberbeast No sponsor necessary. Its the best for a reason. If you remove emotion from your decision making process and compare of measurable criteria. There is no argument.

    • @sauberbeast
      @sauberbeast 8 лет назад

      Dean - let's see how emotionless you are when your ranger turbo throws a cooling line and cooks the engine? Or when the gearbox decides to shit itself in the middle of no mans land? Or when you unknowingly drain the oil for longer than 10 minutes and destroy the engine on startup? The ranger is pretty, but she is poorly tested and guaranteed to let you down - go do your research.

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад +1

      +sauberbeast There are no guarantees in life, including a guarantee to let you down. There are plenty of Ranger drivers who have been doing do for years without issue. There are just as many driving other brands who are just as happy. The opposite is also true where there are drivers who have horror stories about their vehicles, be it the Ranger, Hilux Amarok or any of the others in this review. I understand that a lot about buying a ute is personal taste and a lot of buyers do so without actually comparing one over the other. I have done a lot of research because I don't want to have to do it again because I made a mistake. In my journey to select a ute I drove lots of them spoke to mechanics, read endless amounts of blogs and reviews and in the end my opinion was that the Ranger was the best vehicle at the time. The Mazda BT-50 was a very close 2nd and then the Holden Colorado. The Holden was dismissed due to the uncertainty of the brand in our region.

    • @MrAkwaholic
      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад

      +sauberbeast In the end Mazda offered me a better deal and I couldn't justify the marginal difference for the price difference. I'm happy with my Mazda but I still think the Ranger is better.

    How would any of these vehicles go if you're out the back of nowhere (west of the great divide) and the engine light came on then the car died? Who would answer the phone, provide support and have an adequate dealer network? Only Toyota offers the reliability and support that anyone buying a ute for $55k is entitled to. The rest of the details are good but not essential. I don't really care that my ute drives like an SUV or has the most torque, I just want it to take me and my family out bush and get us back.

    I didn't here them say that the hilux is the only 4x4 there with reinforced back doors for safety. And that the resale value is much better to. hilux for life. 08 hilux 255 000km of tough driving and when I say tough I mean it and she is still going strong, hate to see her go but I just love the new 16 hilux.

    Great video guys...well done. I have been a loyal Toyota fan 4 ever I am on my fourth Hilux Invicible Auto and ready to change...I never thought I would drive anything else but I cant stand the look of the new Hilux..what have they been doing at Toyota for 10 years to come up with this? Lazy? I dont like the style it is no change from the old and it is uglier...how have they managed this?
    I have a Ranger Wildtrak on trial for a week and from what I have heard it is so much better...never had a Ford but this just might be their time.

    • @ehupnowthen
      @ehupnowthen 8 лет назад +1

      +Joel Mammachen How right you are....I have just had the Wildtrack 3.2 for a weeks trial and it breaks me to say this vehicle is far superior to the new Hilux it is a more refined engine it is a better ride it is more comfortable it is a better ride with a ton in the back it tows better pulling our 2.8 ton mini digger..it breaks my heart to move away from Hilux but that is what I have done I have ordered the new Ford Ranger Wildtrack in white with every extra available £38.700 will it be as good in 4 years? as the Hilux time will tell.

    ute comparisons are good but every one of these fail to show what will happen mechanically in the next 5 years. example my 07 pathfinder within 2 years the radiator leaked into the transmission. then if somthing goes wrong will the dealership fix it. i was lucky nissan fix mine under warranty. this needs to be included in these comparison test its not all about whats good or bad on the ute its about reliability too over 5 years.

    Great review!! Objective and serious... I work in the oil industry in South Argentina.... If you want to find crappie roads and tough conditions you should come around... Companies used to buy only Hilux here for reliability, now ranger is almost even in market share... I drive my hilux SR 3.0 on a daily basis and sometimes my bosses wildtrack... Ford really nailed it this time!! Will buy the new ranger this year

      I have had mine for 3 years and have never had to put a drop of oil in it other then servicing.
      I think you are confusing that problem with the first release of the diesel V8 Landcruisers.
      'Research' any Dual Cab available on the market today and they will all have some sort of issues.

      @MrAkwaholic 8 лет назад +1

      +Ansett76 All vehicles have some sort of issue somewhere. I think you are just lucky you haven't been cursed with the problem. It is a known problem with Amarok, Im definitely not confused. I wouldn't buy a Hilux either. In my opinion the top 3 vehicles in the double cab sector is Ranger, BT-50 and Colorado. Just my 5c worth.

    • @ansett7687

      Dean van der Merwe well, its funny that since buying the Amarok I seem to get approached by other Amarok drivers (seems to be a regular thing) not one has had anything but praise. Most state they will only ever buy Amarok again.
      Amarok drives better then any of those and will get to the same places, on much less fuel.

  • @nadheembera9250
