Greetings from Bergvliet, Cape Town. The Isuzu KB 250/280 turbo diesel will always be my preferred choice of double cab bakkie but I would also add the Hilux 2.5d4d double cab into the mix as well.
Every time the other companies bring new models, they bring new engines....ISUZU KB is a winner and my choice as well with their tried and tested 4JA1 engine (introduced in the late 80's). A friend of mine who bought the 3.2 Turbodiesel Ford Ranger has had countless problems with the engine and the injectors. I don't trust Toyota diesel engines as they bring new engines with every new model (something is wrong here)...... VW still not good enough for me....
I own an Isuzu KB 2.8 Turbo Diesel 4x4 from 1995. It has more than 700000 km in the counter and still running problem free . Needless to say that I trust it more than my new Lexus IS300h purchased new last year.
Greetings from Bergvliet, Cape Town.I will always be an Isuzu fan, as a blind person. I was introduced to the KB double cab through the models from the mid-late 90's and as a blind person I will always love those models because of their truck-like sound from their 2.5l/2.8l turbo diesel engines. I'm not really keen on Toyota but I would take the Hilux double cab as a 2nd option with the 2.5l d4d turbo diesel engine so Isuzu and Toyota would be the 2 brands I would work with when it comes to double cabs, although I don't think of Toyota, ford and Vw as bakkie brands because they don't just build bakkies, but they build other typss of cars as well.
For me personally, I would go with Isuzu any day. I might consider the Hylux but I would go wit Isuzu regardless. I'm also interested in the Land Rover Defender 110 in double cab bakkie form but, like I said, when it comes to typical double cab bakkies It's Isuzu all the way and the double cab that attrackted me to the Isuzu brand and the world of double cab bakkies was the generation from the 1990's (maybe around 1996 before the facelift, and including the facelift) with the 2.8 litre turbo diesel engine (I don't know for sure if there is a 2.5 litre version as well but I dud see a RUclips video of it somewhere).
I'd go Isuzu durability to last a life time as stated by the presenter himself. Features are I'm important but we don't want to keep repairing and losing money. Isuzu is a workaholic. Many industries use the brand for years and still have faith in Isuzu.
Im a farmer and i live in Malaysia i do hard off roading daily because I have to . I've used my single cab hilux for 6 yrs and i only inflate the tyres, do an oil change and filter change every 6 months. I just ordered another 2019 hilux .......
Lack of low range is more of an issue on the Amarok when reversing in challenging conditions with a heavy trailer. It just will not move backwards in many conditions. Same issue with the latest V6 version.
@@sbubuthelezi3687 There is no tune that substitutes for a lack of low ratio in reverse. The only answer is the fitting of a two speed transfer case. Otherwise reverse ratio is more or less the same ratio, but in reverse, as second gear. The stall speed of a torque convertor or the clutch on a manual cannot handle that ratio from a stop when reversing up hill with a heavy trailer behind, such as the 3.5 tons I reversed up to an unloading bay this very morning in my Ford.
I am interesting in buying a double cab pickup up !I think that we might consider the cost of services -space parts and the reliability .I think that Hilux is the best for me!!
Toyota Hilux GD6 is the best. Yes Ford ranger wildtrack might have the best looking but when it co.es to durability Toyota in anyway is the best. In Namibia most hereroes believe in Isuzu but nowadays they realised that Toyota is the best.
As a blind person I prefer the Isuzu Kb for it's distinct truck typ of sound, especially from the models from the mid-late 90's which introduced me to the world of double cabs. Next, for me, comes the hilux. I like the d4d engine series but I wouldn't go for the 3.0l versions though because although they may be powerful and reliable they have far too much turbo noise, they don't have that distinct truck type of sound when reving and under acceleration, well, it is there but not that distinct compared to the Kb, and they also hav a fan in the engine that runs for a few seconds on start up and take off which sounds a bit annoying to me. The KB (D-Max versions) unfortunately have the same issue with the fan in the engine like the Hilux but I would take one if it didn't have the fan. If I go for a Hilux I would take the 2.5l d4d, if the double cab has a 2.5l D4d option because it doesn't have too much turbo noise and it has that truck type of sound, not as distinct as a Kb, but a lot better compared to the 3.0l d4d.
Great review except i will have ine question. Why adding an aftermarket suspension lift kit to the amarok.? This review should have shown only standard features. Obviously the amarok with a lift kit is more capable than a standard version same for the ranger. I do have a 2 inch lift kit on my ranger and no mater how big is the gap i still have my back wheels touching the ground. I recon if you add an official after market part to one you should do the same for all of them like this its more an accurate comparaison. Otherwise great review. And all 4 4x4 are very very capable anyways. Thx angain for such great reviews

I love the amarok. Firstly because it loves me too, Im 6foot5 and weigh 160kg but when I sit inside that bakkie I feel like a normal person 😂 to be honest I've never enjoyed driving any vehicle in my life because of my size and Toyota is the worst due to its small cockpit followed by the isuzu, the ranger is a little better but after driving it for 3 hours I can hardly walk on the ground. Without 4x4 the amarok still handles pretty well so I give it the thumbs up I'm going to buy one
The Isuzu makes sense, the Ford if i want to impress, the Amarok is a wild card. In the end I am going to go with the Hilux. Just for all round appeal! I feel I will bond with it the most lol!
As a long-time user of both the ranger 3.2 and the amarok 2.0 bitdi i can say this for certain: The 2 litre amarok is unfortunately underpowered in most on-road situations. The Ranger 3.2 auto in the 2016 facelift form is a gift from the heavens in terms of Torque and power. That torque curve just makes absolute minced-meat of the vehicle mass at most speed ranges.
