Thank you, Mr. Ballen, for the retelling of my dad's story. His 6 hours in hell mission is unbelievable and one he didn't like to relive, but he told it in hopes of inspiring those who heard it. He never took credit for being a hero, although in all of our eyes he is one. He always said the real heroes are the ones who never came home. By the way, our family just celebrated the 40th Anniversary of my father receiving the Medal of Honor.
Again, well done Mr. Ballen. -Yvette Benavidez Garcia, Roy's proud daughter. #TangoMikeMike

I’ve heard your dad’s story many times. I can only imagine the internal strength of mind required to overcome the overwhelming physical trauma he endured and to keep fighting to save others. His story should never be forgotten. I’ve shared your father’s story with my children and hopefully they will share it with their own kids someday. I like to tell my kids that life will knock you down a million different ways, it’s your job to find a million and one ways to get back up. Inspired by your Dad. Thank you

That helicopter pilot deserves no less recognition, and MSGT Benavidez honorably expressed his acknowledgement of this. Your uncle was a total and complete badass in all the best ways. I hate to say a man like Roy was wrong about anything, but he was totally wrong about not being a hero. There absolutely are dead men who are heroes, but there are plenty of living ones who are as well. Ceasing to breathe isn't what gets you the title; it's stepping up and taking on the threat when the safety and/or well-being of others is at risk.
