    Thanks for the video. Hot tip: Gina K gives advice to always dust off the foil, front and back with a Swiffer cloth. Maybe that could also help to make better contact.

    I have the glimmer system and I use it with my big shot. I have absolutely no issues with getting perfect results and I don’t need any extra shims other than what came with the system. I would suggest that your big shot probably needs replacing. Mine is less than a year old. I enjoyed your video.

      Thank you! That helps a lot to know. I definitely need new plates and with all the black Friday sales, maybe I should just buy a new machine. I'd likely get the Platinum to go along with my Spellbinders systems. Though I do also really like my Big Shot!

    Have you ever watched Nancy Stamps, Foiling snobs? She recommends Hammermill 100lb premium color copy cover.
    It's the one with the gecko on the top.
    It has a buttery soft finish, which is what you want when it comes to foiling.

      I have used Hammermill but like the Bristol even better. I’m family with that series by Nancy Stamps.

    I place the plates on the top then press the start button. It gives great results most of the time. I have also foiled on watercolour Cardstock with lovely results so you can foil on non shiny paper depending on the p,ate design. I did silver stars on black and it was gorgeous. The solid plate is always heated for longer too as that helps but foils vary and even different colours of foil within a brand can vary!

    I have a glimmer and Platinum and get great foiling results using foil plates and betterpress plates. Maybe try heating your solid plate for 2-3 cycles before foiling. Since it’s a big plate it needs to heat longer. Thanks for sharing your opinions. I find it fascinating to hear other opinions and ideas.

      Thanks! I’ve used it well heated and same results. I imagine it’s the Sizzix vs the Platinum… but every machine and scenario is different.

      @@ccreatesartcrafts yes they are. So sorry you don’t have good results. Foiling is so beautiful that i am sad when others struggle. Your betterpress turns out great and they have many plates so you still get to foil. I purchased some betterpress plates for the same reason even though i can use regular plates successfully. I also use regular dies with good foiling results. 😉. Enjoy your foiling!

    I have a Bigkick and I don't need any shims, just the 2 plates that came with the Glimmer 🙂 doesn't matter if I use Glimmer foil or Foil Press Foil. I do put the plates on top when I press the timing button. Maybe that helps increase the heat. Yana heats twice with the plates on when using the negative foil pieces. Maybe that'll help ? Oh are you using Hammermill paper (it has a gecko or chameleon on the package). Thanks for sharing, lots of them look so pretty

    One tip that Jennifer McGuire suggests is to turn your glimmer plates at an angle so that they aren't going in vertically or horizontally. However, with sentiments, plates should be vertical on the base to get better results. Don't know if that will help your situation or not, but I thought I would at least share. And yes, Hammermill paper is the only way to go. I have successfully glimmered on Bristol, but Hammermill gives great results.

    maybe add another smaller piece of paper in the middle of the sandwich and run through 2 times and see if that helps...thanks for all the info. ...if a machine is old it's still usable but may need to be shimmed more in the very center.. you use 4 shims maybe try a fifth only in the center part...I use cardboard sometimes . Keep trying till you find the right amount...your machine is a valuable tool so experiment more with it. Good Luck....I appreciate your effort and struggle.

      I appreciate your comment! I hadn't thought of that, but I like the idea of an additional shim in the center. Thanks for the comment!

    If you use the hinge method it works amazing and you can definitely run it through twice without any shifting.

    I’m so glad I watched this. I finally caved and order a glimmer machine and supplies (not that I have space 😂) I have recently noticed the lack of pressure on my old pink and black big shot, I’ve had her since they came out, I guess it’s time she retires. Now, the question, a Spell binder die cutter or another Big shot?

    • @ccreatesartcrafts
      @ccreatesartcrafts  9 месяцев назад +1

      Aw! You’ll enjoy it! I’m thinking of getting the Spellbinders die cut machine, but might as well try the one you have first. Use plenty of cardstock for pressure, though every machine seems to be different.

    The amount of pressure that gets applied also depends very much upon your individual machine, and often, how old it is. The older the machine, the more likely you’ll find that it applies less pressure and less evenly to your foiled image. I have a six year old Big Shot Plus machine, and I’m more likely to experience over foiling than under foiling. This machine applied crazy amounts of pressure when I first got it, so I probably would have gotten massive over foiling every time had I tried using the Glimmer system then. Some foils seem more finicky than others as well, so you’re really stuck with just experimenting and adjusting the variables. Regardless, as you’ve rightly said, the smoother the paper the better.

      I just keep hoping I’ll find that silver bullet to perfect foiling results every time. I love it so much. The betterpress plates do seem to work so wonderfully. I am interested to know if others have had the same great results.

    Large plates take longer to heat. I’ve heard it recommended to let large plates heat about 2X as long as the blinking light.

    One other way to use the leftover foil is to use a laminator with color toner paper. I have the Minc machine and have toner paper from Pink & Main as well as Crafty Critta. The toner paper prevents under foiling with the left over Glimmer foil.

    • @ccreatesartcrafts
      @ccreatesartcrafts  9 месяцев назад

      Great idea! I have yet to try toner/laminator foiling.

    • @kathyp374
      @kathyp374 9 месяцев назад

      You can’t use the foil for the glimmer in the laminator with timer paper or vice versa.It’s a different type of foil. There are solid glimmer plates available to use left over foil.

    New sub…your video was done well and I appreciate all the information you gave us…
    I haven’t used my glimmer very much. I’ve just tried it with my spellbinders but I might try with big shot or the newer Sizzix…I hadn’t considered trying a different machine and I don’t think I want to get into the go press machine…lol
    I am going to buy Gina Ks new die cutting machine as it has a dial to change the pressure….
    So I will have 7 die cutting machines!! It’s crazy I know…
    I may start a class. I have enough materials to do it 😂
