Good video ! I use thicker wood for models. It helps set the right saw blade angle. I write the angle on each wood model. Then when I get the perfect fit, I just set the blade at that angle.
Size is an issue with the Starrett Miter Saw Protractor. They have squeezed 2 degrees into one increment. I challenge you to find a fraction of a degree. Fractions are critical for tight fitting joints.

I also did a lot of stained wood too. I always did the longest pieces first, so if I made a mistake, I can still use that piece of wood later.

a zero clearance saw insert will give you better cuts, less tear-out

I like the Bora Miterix angle duplicator. Nothing is perfect but it makes it really quick and easy.
Sawset is quicker and easier.
