Thanks everyone for watching and giving some ideas for future saws to tackle! Links below for reference: Bosch Axial Glide Dust Collection Chute: bit.ly/49O5beH
Thx for making the stl's available for sale. Just bought them to print. Do you or anyone have a pointer to filament that is a close-ish color match like you showed?
Thinking a more flexible material would help your project. Something stiff enough to return to its original shape on its own, but able to collapse or take on a shape created by the pressure applied by the base of the saw when doing miter cuts. So that the obstruction it becomes would become a non-issue because it would simply take on a new shape from the applied outside force, yet still be function able. Consider the same material used in the tip of that blue dust collection connector 1.53. You can squeeze that all day, it will always return to its original shape.
As an engineer myself albeit much much older I am very impressed with you so much so I ordered your solution for my Bosch 12 inch miter saw. You are the kind of engineer I would want on my team, one who is hand on and continues to try and try until the best possible solution is found. Kudos to you.
The comparison at around 11:30 is not really reasonable - with the standard dust collection (before) he is making an end cut, with his "improved" version a crosscut (after), knowing that a end cut is the most difficult one for the dust collection.
@@l.k.1011 I agree, after shooting that was the closest similar angle I could get between original and improved. This is why I also showed the general state of the saws after all cuts as well, because that is reality. I did end cuts in all tests.
Can't wait for your DeWalt version. I hate the mess my miter saw makes, and I too have not treasured making a huge box/tent behind the saw. Like you, my own attempts at fixing that issue have been difficult.
I also can't wait for the Dewalt version. I just picked up a DW779 with free stand and have been messing with the dust collection. I added flashing tape to the flexible shroud so now it doesn't close in on itself and for some weird reason Dewalt put holes along the top of that black pipe that holds the shroud. I taped that up along with any small openings I could see to have maximum airflow running all the way to the front of the shroud
If suction could be added to the base in the slot of the clearance plate I believe it would improve dust collection. Kinda like a downdraft table for sanding.
You would think so, but due to the blade rotation and angle of the teeth, there is really no dust forced in that lower cavity. Everything that ends up there is falling from somewhere else. I had a similar thought when I first started tackling these issues.
Honestly what I am planning is a small (tilted) downdraft behind the saw as well, which I think might be more useful for capturing the dust that escapes collection at source
The velocity of the air is made by the blade and bottom suction would reduce the direction of the air that is carrying the dust, this would make the system less effective. As an engineer I would suggest you smooth all the corners to streamline the airflow as it moves into the device. the sharp edges are causing turbulence reducing the air to carry the dust.(look at your fluids books from school) Smooth air will carry higher amounts of dust, so get rid of the corners and smooth them out with a healthy radii.
The small Bosch gcm8 sde has a collection point and the end of that slot and one that moves with the saw the glide saw doesn't allow this which is actually a great collection system
Here for the dws780….anxious to see what you come up with. But I also wanted to remind you of the recall dewalt had, so you’ll have to either make sure it’s recall compliant or mounting has zero affect on the recalled pieces.
This saw ruclips.net/user/postUgkx84IcU5pbZd1Qrz8u4-YRLmJax7kdRi7B comes in handy in many ways. When I had a small (dead) tree fall I started the process of disposal by using this saw and cutting off the small branches. Then slowly work on the small trunk with undercutting and letting it fall down. With many trees on acres of land paying for a tree service can be expensive. It also is nice in that it can be used in hard to get areas like along my creek. It's also safer and quieter than a chainsaw. It obviously can't cut down massive trees but it does work fine for small ones or brush. And of course since I already own a Black
I purchased this recently and could not believe the difference it made. I wrestled with my old dust collection for years. I am extremely happy with the purchase.
+1 on the Makita LS1219 saw. I actually got rid of the Bosch, mostly because of the dust collection. Makita is so promising with the dual collection but let down badly when sliding. The small hoses probably don't help either.
I have this saw and for the last 3 years have tried hoses, tape, boxes, everything to help with dust collection. This is a great solution, just ordered it before the video even ended.
I'm an engineer. I was impressed enough by your approach that I ordered your chute for my Bosch 12" Glide Saw. I'm thrilled with it. While it doesn't capture every particle, it's a vast improvement requiring few sacrifices. Thanks for a job well done.
How do you like this saw. Ive read that its is very difficult to true up and will not hold it. There is a large plethora of 1,2,and 3 star reviews from guys who do precision woodworking, not just rough cutting for home building and they all say stay far away from this saw. One video here on youtube demonstrates how bad it is. What do you think? Have you ever carefully checked it?
I love my bosch miter saw, because of the front slide action. With a small shop area ,it's a must have. But even with an extra vac hose by the saw, it's still dust everywhere. You my friend , have another sale, thank you for this much needed product.
You should do one for the Hercules 12 inch saw from Harbor Freight. It is very similar to the high end DeWalt 12 inch saw. I bet they have sold more of them than the Bosch saw.
I have this same miter saw and have been watching you struggle with the (miter saw dust collection) for months now with different miter saws, Ill say one thing about you, Bygod you are persistence. My hats off to you. Once you modify and close in that open space, Im pretty sure you have it licked and most likely IF,,,,, l can afford one, ill buy one
Great solution! My son will be starting college in the fall of 2023 and plans to major in mechanical engineering. He is not a woodworker but I will be sending him the link to your video so he can see the kinds of things mechanical engineers do. Thanks for another great video! Keep up the good work.
That’s what I’m looking for! I was planning to make a bunch of changes to shelving to build the big box behind the saw, but not now. Thanks for taking the time to model and print all of these versions. As a retired M.E. I appreciate your approach.
I bought the one that's offered on Etzy and received it today. I'm very impressed! My journey looking for a dust collection improvement for my 12" Bosch started about 15 years ago. I bought plans from Dan Patterson to make a larger boot but still plenty of dust was thrown out the back. Then I built the smallest box around the saw that I could for full function (with a 4" port to my DC) but the saw with the box on the gravity base is top heavy and easy to tip when moving the stand and the stand can't collapse. Better used for a permanent spot. The boot collar design is awesome! The key is the wide rubber boot, larger collection area, and the elimination of the OEM skinny bent tubing that restricts CFM. Really cool how the design marries up with the removed OEM dust boot screw holes, which makes this boot solidly attached and as close to the blade as practical. This dust boot looks like it should have been there on a new GCM12SD from the get go. Bosch should pay a licensing fee and add this to their saw. Bosch would sell more GCM12SD units with this boot included. Maybe this push some Festool buyers their way! The GCM12SD is a fantastic miter saw. I'm on my second one!
I’m happy to see someone who has one gives it a good review. I bought mine mid-December and just got the shipping notification today. I’ll try to post a video review of it when I get it installed. I agree with you, if it works, then Bosch should set this guy up for life, as there will now be a saw that can compete in the same dust collection arena as the Festool. If the word gets out in the proper arenas that this works, it’s almost guaranteed to boost their sales dramatically. Dust collection was a consideration when I bought my Bosch, but I had to settle for the lesser of the evils. This will take it from being the best of the worst…to the best of all the name brands. I try to keep my shop as clean as possible and it drives me nuts using the miter saw because of all my tools, it’s the one with the worst dust collection. Personally, I would love to see someone do a comparison between this on a Bosch and the Festool Kapex saw. Thanks for the review, it was a relief seeing it.
Update: I ordered another one due to my bad of chopping off an inch or less of a 1x2 hardwood piece and lifted the blade immediately after the cut. The short piece caught the blade and launched into the dust chute and shattered it. So just a reminder to allow the blade it stop before lifting on short cutoffs, as short cutoffs can become high speed bullets. I think these dust chutes are 3D printed, so not sure if a better polymer used would prevent this.
2nd update: I ordered a replacement. Same thing happened and I'm going back to the OEM vacuum boot. $100+ down the drain. The problem is that the boot assembly is very close to the blade to catch the dust coming off the cut but that also leaves a big backstop anytime you raise the blade before a complete blade stop after a cut. The OEM boot would allow a cutoff piece to slide backward harmlessly upon raising a spinning blade but this boot causes the cutoff piece to slide backward, hit the boot housing and bounce back into the spinning blade. Not recommended. I bet miter saw manufacturers that looked at this product would laugh and say that they abandoned this type of close to blade design for this reason. I thought this design would last if the boot housing was made of metal but then, by not shattering, the cut off piece would potentially become an incoming projectile to your body after the cutoff slides backward, hits the housing, bounces back into the blade and then violently bounces off the non shattering boot housing. I have never experienced a cutoff hitting a the spinning blade of my Bosch miter saw until I used this boot. Unless you religiously allow the spinning blade to stop before lifting, forget this product. Maybe if Bosch had a brake that stopped the blade from spinning quickly after releasing the trigger, this would be a non issue. Or you need to make sure your fence is set at a zero clearance so a cutoff can't slide backwards, which the OEM fence doesn't offer. I am disappointed that this boot was not my solution to the bad dust collection of my Bosch saw. Nice try but this needs a second design thought for practicality use.
I’d be very interested in the 12” Dewalt non-sliding (DWS716), assuming the dust collection is different than the slider. If it is the same, you might make this clear when you do your videos to broaden the scope of interest. Thanks for your good work!
This is my first miter saw and I went from waiting for the right fix to preparing my own design. Anyways, that can go in the trash now you are amazing. Never been so happy to see a youtube title
I’ve got a Metabo C12RSH2(S) 12” dual bevel sliding mitre saw. I don’t know the differences between this and the “M” above, but I’d buy one for my saw if it fit. And I don’t even have dust collection.
Just ordered mine! I have been struggling since day one of buying this saw and it’s lack of dust collection. Love the saw, but not the dust collection. Thanks for taking the time to try out different configurations to come up with a solution that will be a huge improvement. Can’t wait to receive it and add it to my saw.
One more vote for the Metabo. Keep up the great content, I will be starting my shed project in the spring and will definitely be referencing your series. Thanks!
I'd love to see a chute for the 10" Makita dual bevel. I love its sliding mechanism. The articulating arms on the rigid/ Bosch seem overly complicated and prone to deflection
Makita 12 inch too. That said - the Makita is already somewhat better than the bosch and ridgid, as it has 2 separate dust collection chutes. Maybe both can be used to even further improve the collection.
I have put up with the dust from my 12" Bosch saw for 10 looooong years and bought your adaptor BEFORE I was done watching your video. Congratulations on a great design from one mechanical engineer to another. I wish I could shake your hand.
Love that someone is actually tackling this issue competently and thoroughly!! I’m the happy owner of a Metabo KGS 315 Plus. I would love your take on that!!
As a retired automotive engineer, I designed and built a device for dust collection on my 14" Delta Bandsaw as the factory design was terrible at collecting dust. The design is over 90% efficient in collecting dust from the bandsaw, virtually eliminating clean up after making cuts and much better than other designs I have seen on RUclips. I don't do 3D printing or computer design so I made my device using wood and salvaged plastic components. If you want the design to make a 3D version and use it for your channel and business, please reply back. I am happy to share this concept with woodworkers to make their hobby/business more enjoyable. The concept can be easily adapted into 3D plastic and used by anyone with a Delta 14" bandsaw with a cast iron table, however I am not knowledgeable on how Delta's cast iron bandsaw tables have evolved over the years. The design would have to be adjusted to fit other bandsaw manufacturers.
I ordered this a couple weeks ago. Just got it. Install took literal minutes. And holy heck does it ever work. Well made, well done. This is festool level dust collection.
Me too! I love my saw. Travis, you rock dude. Thanks for all you do. As an electrical engineer, I like the iterative approach. It gives the best answer with some compromises but best for the 80%.
You have restored my faith in American ingenuity! Attention to detail is your primary concern and the end result is indicative of the effort. Thanks for sharing!
Just installed my dust chute and tried it out. Even with a portable Ryobi cordless vacuum cleaner that only has 80 CFM I’m very impressed. If you’re on the fence, definitely get one!
After watching this video I placed my order for this unit. It arrived the other day and I installed it on my saw yesterday and was very anxious to give it a try. It works wonderfully and I am so pleased with its performance. This addition to this saw makes it so much better, thank you..........
Would love to see you tackle the Milwaukee M18 10” mitre saw. The saw is a slider and the blade slides and leaves the collection point at the back of the saw! At full extension your blade is almost 10’ away from the collection. Would love to see what you could do with it.
I've tried all sorts of cheap hacks to mitigate the dust on my Bosch miter saw and nothing works. This looks fantastic! I placed my order today and can't wait to try it out!
I just installed the Axial Glide Dust Collection Chute on my Bosch 10" miter saw. The directions were easy to follow and it fits like a glove. In my opinion, it works great.. I noticed an extremely small amount of saw dust after making about 30 plus cuts. Not even enough to fill a teaspoon. For me, this is a great improvement and well worth the investment.
Looking at how much dust follows the original collection path even with the suction removed I would suggest you try going smaller, surrounding the blade as much as possible to focus the vacuum and give it as much suction as possible. Keep a flap to slow down anything going wildly off course and give the vacuum a chance to catch it. As much air speed as possible being drawn past the blade should help and that requires a smaller apature so long as the shop vac doesn't struggle. But small that is in practice and how that works out in the real world is another matter...It would be cool to have the chute work in every possible use though.
Ordered, received, installed absolutely incredible mod for this superb saw. I was very disappointed with the dust collection of this saw when I first bought it, and had tried a couple of "DIY" mods, but the improvements were very minimal. Your adaptor is night and day, got to be close to 99% collection now. Thanks for a great, well made product at a very reasonable price. You've turned this saw into a much greater tool.
I have tried multiple methods to improve the dust collection on my miter saw. As such I’m very interested in you designing one of these for the Festool Kapek 120 . If it worked as well as the one you just demoed , I’d buy it in a heart beat.
I have an old Makita sliding mitre saw and set up a nice new workshop a few years ago. I use the standard dust chute and after some experimenting, found that the biggest improvement in dust collection was achieved simply by sliding the saw all the way towards me pulling it right down and making the cut using the slide, eg front to back.
I bought one and I like it. It works really well. The one improvement I would make is to blunt the little screws that hold on the flap/curtain. If something gets caught in the opening and I reach in to fish it out, OUCH! I solved it myself by grinding them down while in place with a Dremel cutoff wheel so now it’s smooth inside.
Awesome design! +1 for the 10" Bosch version. Eagerly waiting for it's availability Have you looked at extending the sides of the flap so that they extend further?
I have a miter saw, I have an ok dust collection system. I watched your video for 1 reasons 1) I like your content and the way you present it. I find it both entertaining and helpful. 2) o want/need you to keep putting out videos so I watch them all, to do my small part to keep you going.
How long did all of your iterations take to get from concept to v8.1? That doesn't come across in the video how much time you spent. I think it's great and I am curious to know roughly what demand on your time it took start to finish.
Perfect timing!! Thank you. I just got this saw on a Black Friday deal and have been so disturbed by the dust. This will be a boon to the dust problem!
Received the dust collector today. Installation was straight forward and quick. Had to try it. Hooked up the vacuum and dust collection worked as well as the video. Excellent design.
I received the dust chute today, took me 10 minutes to install. I am very pleased. It works great! Does it capture every speck of dust? No, but it does collect 95%. Vast improvement over the factory system. FYI, I am not affiliated and paid for it with my own money.
@@ShopNation I've made one with those nice bright 18650 flashlights, easy 3d print that replaces the black cap on the top of the saw shroud. I'd be happy to share the 3d print for free
i have this saw in my shop. the dust collection is the reason i just have the saw fully contained in a hood with a 5" port in the floor of the compartment it sits in. I have a hose connected to the bosch factory dust port and it just drapes down into that 5" port. after all that, i found that adding a 2" hose tucked up into an upper corner of the cubby, pointed out in to the room, increased the resistance of the entire system so that the factory dust port actually does something, the 2" hose (which of course is run loosely into that 5" port also) creates a small draft towards the entire saw from the rest of the room, and the 5" port on the compartment floor catches what would be the "rooster tail" of dust behind your saw.
Mechanical engineer here specializing in dust collection systems. The key to good dust collection is capture velocity. For saw dust You need at least 200 to 400 fpm at the point of collection. (200 fpm where dust is directed into the capture device and 400 where the capture device may be a bit further away or large. CFM is secondary to capture velocity. Calculate the CFM required to obtain the capture velocity and also maintain at least 3000 fpm in the duct work. This works for me every time and makes happy customers.
Got mine the other day and installed today. Installation went great as you explained. A couple of comments: 1 Just about lost the wee bity spacer for the guard arm when I removed it, but I caught it before it scurried under the bench. 2 item is the RH FWD blade guard screw was hiding behind the motor wires. Removed the blade cover and 2 mount screws to rotate the cover fwd and that exposed the hiding screw. Ops check went grreat!! Thanks for tackling this!!😁
I watch quite a number of ‘make this….’ videos on here and there’s usually a point somewhere that makes me think “now you just blew it!” In this case, I’m just left thinking “I’m not worthy”!! Outstanding thinking, superb development process, excellent result!!
Travis, thanks for tackling the dust collection dilemma that so many of us have endured and the manufacturers seem to ignore. I purchased your collection chute for the Ridgid and look forward to getting up and running. Always enjoy your videos...looking forward to the next one.
It is not that they ignore it- it just doesn't sell saws. And a good one is liable to user damage, warranty claims, etc. Probably most are used without dust collection anyway.
Travis, I have followed you for some time now, and am glad you decided to tackle the daunting task of dust collection on miter saws. I just ordered your 12" Bosch Sliding adapter and cannot wait to install it. THANK YOU for all you do and am anticipating all your future videos. I, like you are also continuously pursuing "SHOP GREATNESS!"
I received the Shop Nation attachment today for my Bosch 12” miter saw. It was an easy, 10 minute installation. It works as advertised! Very little dust is now escaping collection. Fit, finish, and looks of the attachment are top notch! I do have a design consideration. My corrugated Dustright, 1.75” hose is catching on the top of the fence when performing sliding cuts, even when the fence is extended all the way out. It probably wouldn’t happen if I had one of those swanky Festool hoses. 😊This is due to the angle where the hose attaches to the shroud. The angle needs to be changed slightly, so that the dust collection hose exits more toward the rear of the saw. I am still very happy, and will rig up a work around.
Just purchased this saw and came across your video. Definitely buying one. Shop goal is too improve dust collection across the board. This will definitely help!!
I plan to use this in conjunction with a catch box. I'll run a 4" line to the box with a 2.5" tap to this chute. Should get pretty much all of it that way. Outstanding engineering and presentation. Ordered immediately after the video, and this wasn't the first one I watched. The quick removal feature totally sold it.
You Sir are a god amongst men, well done, I've owned a GCM for years and It's dust collection has irritated me everytime I use the machine, well done, I look forward to printing the files and installing seeing the improvements, thank you for taking the time and designing this. Bosch engineers, if you're watching this video, work with this guy and bring this to market.
Oh, this is awesome! I've had this saw for a few years. I love the saw but, I hate the mess. Going to order this and give it a shot and support a great channel!
This is great, the only problem I see is that if you’re cross cutting at maximum width and cutting depth (350mm ish for width, 100mm for depth on this saw if memory serves) the dust shroud will foul on the workpiece and prevent you from cutting at full depth, due to it hanging lower than the arbor. This isn’t an issue for most, but I regularly cut down very wide and thick hardwood boards in my line of work.
I spent some time working on this with a well know brand, Having a full cad model of the saw definitely makes life a lot easier. Some of the best solutions had a really big flap of rubber.
Phenomenal solution. I was deciding between the Bosch and DeWalt 10-in. saws as I already have a raft of 10 inch blades for my table saw and really have no need for a 12 anyway. Although very partial to Bosch tools as my shop is full of them, I had heard some negative comments about Bosch's articulating arm not holding true, ended up with DeWalt 717. When it arrived it was obviously a resale - it was loose in the box, no internal packing, literally bouncing around with a hole where the handle had broken through. I had little hope for it but was astoundingly perfect out of the box, so to speak. The 717 dust control isn't too bad with a vac on it as is. But I'd love to see what you come up with for DeWalt. Thanks, great video! - PS, I subscribed because I like how you do your videos. Straight forward, no BS, no music, well articulated.
We asked and you delivered, most guys would have made one up very quickly without much thought or care to make a buck but you took the time to make multiple versions of this thing, test after test to get it right. A great saw with one major flaw and you solved it about as close to perfect as we an get. I just ordered one and even with the extra canadian exchange rate this is still worth it. Thanks Travis for once again helping us obtain SHOP GREATNESS!
I’ve had this saw since 2015 and like it a lot. The dust extractor thing broke off of mine the first day I used it. I’ll definitely be ordering one of these
Always look forward to a new Shop Nation video. Especially like when you get your engineer on and I get to learn a bit about engineering in addition to the shop aspects. Thanks!
This adaptor works better than expected. I’ve recently had to consolidate my work space and having control of the debris is a must. Highly recommended.
This is crazy that you dropped this video today. I JUST BOUGHT THIS SAW THREE DAYS AGO! I put it together the other day and the first thing that caught my attention is that my shop vac hose does not fit, nor does my Rockler Dust Right System hose, AND the dust collection just SUCKS. Love the saw - hate this flaw - glad you figured it out. Man - you need to start your own tool company - and by the way - you should seriously think about approaching Bosch and asking for a license agreement. Shark Tank would love you!
I literally bought the Ridgid Saw b/c of Travis's dust chute solution - I just got the chute and OMG it is beyond game changing. If his Bosch (and eventually DeWalt, Makita, etc) do the same, then I can strongly endorse this for everyone's saws.
I bought the attachment, and it works great. One small note, make sure you slide the fence over so the dust collector doesn’t hit it when you make a cut. My dust collector snapped near the screw on the first cut because I didn’t move the fence. A quick fix with some CA glue solved the problem, but it could have been avoided.
I have the V11 for the Bosch 12 inch. This is an amazing solution! DRAMATICALLY better than the factory dust collection. Elegant, easy to install, and its not the big bulky housing some put around the miter saw that limits its utility.
Thank You for this awesome solution. I love my Bosch sliding miter saw, but the dust collection is terrible and this is a great solution for now. Until I can afford the Festool sliding miter saw (200years from now) this will be a great addition. 🤘🏼Shop Greatness 🤘🏼
I’ll order one for sure. Right now I’m working on some kind of 0-clearance for the back fence, which wouldn’t work with this. That being said, I can drop the 0-clearance back fence in favor of decent dust collection! :). Thank you!
Thanks everyone for watching and giving some ideas for future saws to tackle! Links below for reference:

Do I have a miter saw? Nope. Did I watch the whole video anyway? Yup.
LOL same here
Haha I have the Makita and watched this.
I have a Charnwood and lust after a Bosch or Axminster 🌞
Get one, you won’t be disappointed.
Now I want to buy a miter saw, just so I could buy this part. Shhhh. Don’t tell m wife. 🤫
Ordered. Gotta support people working this hard for the community!
Okay Travis now we need one for the Makita owners. Model 1016L would be a good start. Thanks.
Ordered, thank you for taking the time to engineer this improvement.
Did you get yours and put it on your saw? Let us know how it did.
Same here just bought the DWS779
Consider my 10" Bosch version ordered whenever they're available! This is so awesome.
Makita did it with ots batter powered mitre saw.
Here for the dws780….anxious to see what you come up with. But I also wanted to remind you of the recall dewalt had, so you’ll have to either make sure it’s recall compliant or mounting has zero affect on the recalled pieces.
+1 for the DWS780

If it performs as well as the model you made for the Cruzer saws, Bosch owners are gonna be super pleased with this!
I also have the Cruzer and the dust collection out of the box is HORRIBLE. Please work one up for that saw! :-). thanks!
@@ericblad5100 He sells one for the Cruzer. It's the first one made.
@@JimHester Thanks! I didnt realize the Rigid was the same saw. awesome. I will be ordering right now.
Another +1 for the Makita LS1219
Loving the effort on these problem solving projects!
You’re a blessing to all makers using mitre saw’s! Thank you for your greatness…well done!
Great solution!
My son will be starting college in the fall of 2023 and plans to major in mechanical engineering. He is not a woodworker but I will be sending him the link to your video so he can see the kinds of things mechanical engineers do. Thanks for another great video! Keep up the good work.
Please buy a DeWalt miter saw and design a chute for that one too. I'm sure you can make a ton of money on that one too (I hope).
Yes pre order the new sexy flexy version and get one these made 🙏
He says at the end of the video that dewalt is next. I'll be ordering one as soon as it's available!!
@@scottstarek4996 thanks must have missed this
I watched up to about the 12:30 mark. I missed the last minute when he mentions the DeWalt. Travis, thank you!!!
That’s what I’m looking for! I was planning to make a bunch of changes to shelving to build the big box behind the saw, but not now. Thanks for taking the time to model and print all of these versions. As a retired M.E. I appreciate your approach.
This is fantastic example of engineering in real life. I don't even have miter saw but enjoyed your video!
Waiting (semi-)patiently for the 779 to come around. Thanks for sharing the iterative process again. Always good to learn from the thoughts of others.
I have this saw and I've been pondering how I'd solve dust collection when I rebuild my miter station. Thank you for saving me lots of work!
I’d be very interested in the 12” Dewalt non-sliding (DWS716), assuming the dust collection is different than the slider. If it is the same, you might make this clear when you do your videos to broaden the scope of interest. Thanks for your good work!
I just bought this saw and am looking for better dust collection as well!
This is my first miter saw and I went from waiting for the right fix to preparing my own design. Anyways, that can go in the trash now you are amazing. Never been so happy to see a youtube title
If you could make one for the Metabo C12RSH2M 12" sliding saw that would be awesome! Keep up the good work bud!
Agreed I would order one immediately
I’ve got a Metabo C12RSH2(S) 12” dual bevel sliding mitre saw. I don’t know the differences between this and the “M” above, but I’d buy one for my saw if it fit.
And I don’t even have dust collection.
I too would buy one for the Metabo! I’ve been looking online hoping someone would have a solution, but nothing so far. Thanks
I would buy one too. I am not happy with my enclosure.
Another vote. I actually have the Hitachi, but it looks to be identical to the Metabo.
Thanks!
0:18 just got the part today, construction and accuracy are spot on, works as stated. Completely satisfied, thanks
I'd love to see a chute for the 10" Makita dual bevel. I love its sliding mechanism. The articulating arms on the rigid/ Bosch seem overly complicated and prone to deflection
A second Makita 10 inch
Makita 12 inch too. That said - the Makita is already somewhat better than the bosch and ridgid, as it has 2 separate dust collection chutes. Maybe both can be used to even further improve the collection.
Ditto
I have put up with the dust from my 12" Bosch saw for 10 looooong years and bought your adaptor BEFORE I was done watching your video. Congratulations on a great design from one mechanical engineer to another. I wish I could shake your hand.
Dust collection for the Metabo C12RSH2M 12 inch sliding would be amazing!
Love that someone is actually tackling this issue competently and thoroughly!!
I’m the happy owner of a Metabo KGS 315 Plus. I would love your take on that!!
Nice work Travis! So pumped for the DWS779!
I really enjoy your product engineering videos. More please :)
I ordered this a couple weeks ago. Just got it. Install took literal minutes. And holy heck does it ever work.
Well made, well done. This is festool level dust collection.
Finally! I cannot wait for the 10 inch version. Love the Bosch axiel glide but hate the dust. When the 10 inch is ready take my money!
Me too! I love my saw. Travis, you rock dude. Thanks for all you do. As an electrical engineer, I like the iterative approach. It gives the best answer with some compromises but best for the 80%.
ditto
I would also buy the 10” version as soon as you have it available!
You have restored my faith in American ingenuity! Attention to detail is your primary concern and the end result is indicative of the effort. Thanks for sharing!
I'm SO excited. I am looking forward to the 10" version ! I HATE the lousy dust collection! THANK YOU!
I second that!! 10" version!!
Just installed my dust chute and tried it out. Even with a portable Ryobi cordless vacuum cleaner that only has 80 CFM I’m very impressed. If you’re on the fence, definitely get one!
Any plans for a dust collection solution for the HERCULES 12 in. Dual-Bevel Sliding Compound Miter Saw sold by Harbor Freight?
Awesome design, tests, and completion! Kudos... I have the next Dewalt model 780, and am eager to see what you came up with.
Me too. Can't wait!
I bought it and, after some challenges removing the old dust extraction, it went together in minutes. Brilliantly made and seems to perform as hoped!
This is cool. Seems like you've engineered a better dust collection system than the company. Might wanna shoot them an application haha
That saw has the best dust collection of any saw out there!
@@ShopNation while that may be it still leaves an enormous amount of dust. Will you attempt to improve it?
I have an old Makita sliding mitre saw and set up a nice new workshop a few years ago. I use the standard dust chute and after some experimenting, found that the biggest improvement in dust collection was achieved simply by sliding the saw all the way towards me pulling it right down and making the cut using the slide, eg front to back.
Love your work! I'm very Interested in purchasing the BOSCH 10" dust chute (hopefully your next project?)
Eagerly waiting for it's availability
Have you looked at extending the sides of the flap so that they extend further?
I have a miter saw, I have an ok dust collection system. I watched your video for 1 reasons 1) I like your content and the way you present it. I find it both entertaining and helpful. 2) o want/need you to keep putting out videos so I watch them all, to do my small part to keep you going.
How long did all of your iterations take to get from concept to v8.1? That doesn't come across in the video how much time you spent. I think it's great and I am curious to know roughly what demand on your time it took start to finish.
I’ve been at this for probably 3 weeks, doing it in parallel with other activities (I.e. shed)
@@ShopNation I appreciate the information and I am digging the shed build as well. Thanks for what you do.
Glad you’re enjoying it!
This saw needs a a shadow light. I tried to buy something on Etsy, but it was total shit. If you made a fix for that, I'd buy it.
🧐
@@ShopNation I've made one with those nice bright 18650 flashlights, easy 3d print that replaces the black cap on the top of the saw shroud. I'd be happy to share the 3d print for free
That Bosch miter saw is one of the best and most rewarding tools I've ever had..!!!!
Nice work, this was one of the things holding me back from buying the saw. I really appreciate you selling the STL's so we can print our own!
i have this saw in my shop. the dust collection is the reason i just have the saw fully contained in a hood with a 5" port in the floor of the compartment it sits in.
Just ordered one. Looks like you have covered all my thoughts. Well done
So cool! Love that you solved the problem for yourself and created a 3D printed solution you could sell. Just bought mine.
Awesome info! Thank you
Got mine the other day and installed today.
I'm in for the 10" when it becomes available. Thank you!
Thanks!
Ordered. Thank you for solving this issue with issue with an otherwise wonderful saw.
Just got it and installation was a breeze. Works fantastic !!! Thanks for taking the time to design and good luck on your new shop space.
I just bought this and installed it on my saw. It works great! I was able to integrate it into my current dust collection system.
Got mine recently and I'm very impressed with how much dust this captures. Great work!
Just found this channel. Amazing work. A youtuber actually creating something of value. Thank you.
Thank You for this awesome solution. I love my Bosch sliding miter saw, but the dust collection is terrible and this is a great solution for now. Until I can afford the Festool sliding miter saw (200years from now) this will be a great addition. 🤘🏼Shop Greatness 🤘🏼
received mine. Installed and WOW this is awesome!
Makita Miter saw would be great! Great videos, keep up the good work.
I’ll order one for sure. Right now I’m working on some kind of 0-clearance for the back fence, which wouldn’t work with this. That being said, I can drop the 0-clearance back fence in favor of decent dust collection! :). Thank you!
