    Our military sure does use them! I see them every single day here in San Diego on Navy boats and commercial work boats. Just talked to an owner of 15 e-tecs and said that he will stick with them. Has over 5,000 hours on them and still running strong.

      They need to get to the fishing holes pretty quickly to catch the fish first, which buys them more time to get more fish, meaning they win the tournament

    Just bought another Evinrude because I love the 2 stroke smell, I hope there is some smoke now because the fellow at the shop just kept telling me about Eco this and that. I didn't have the heart to say I didn't care. With regard to power, well - if your buddy thinks a 4 cycle engine could even have a chance against a 2 cycle engine, then there is little point even trying to debate the point - this is just one of those things - it is a given. I'm surprisingly still seeing people falling for the 4 stroke propaganda. I guess, what they don't know, won't hurt them. Peace to all.

    evinrude etech are the best engines simply bcoz its a 2 stroke, why do some of these comments say yamaha wasnt at fun throttle? The test wouldnt of been made without it begin fair! The only reason why the mph where so different was coz the boat was planeing with the evinrude, yamaha couldnt get the boat to plane and was so much slower it was just trying to push this huge boat through the water, i just bought a 90hp etech and it is the best thing i have ever bought.

    @SeeNanners Ofcouse I did, I have owned so many boats and forgot that the ones that ran 2 strokes needed oil. What do you think? Adding oil does suck and doing an oil change is better. I guess I can't make up my mind if I like speed or fuel efficiency?? Oh, I but I know I can get both and more with the new SHO on my Skeeter ZX225 that I ordered.

    I looked at my gps unit....have gone 2123 miles..have no idea what that converts to in hours...but my 115 etec hangs out at sandbars on the weekend.just takes me 30 minutes w.o.t. to get there.My etec is 2 1/2years old.Not 1 issue.I use ethanol fuel from the gas station, then put stabil marine 360 in the fuel.I run the xd100 oil.Consumes very little oil.No smoke or fumes.Stock aluminum prop still.Lots of torque. I out holeshot all the 4 strokes in the same league as my setup.Just my 2 cents.
    My neighbor had a 225 yamaha on a 23 angler..over 5 years and 1600 hours,it never had a problem.We changed ALOT of oil though.Maintenance was alot with the Yamaha.

    When I was on a trip with my friend which is a guide in the keys he switched to Evinrude E-tec. He switched from A yamaha V-Max. When he switched on his 4th trip he lost group of costumers because he could not even get it started! He only had a Evinrude for 2 months then he switched back to Yamaha V-Max. Yamaha's have so much more reliability when you need it.

    I believe this because my buddy and I each have ranger 621 vs and I have a 300 etec and he a 300 yamaha and when we have a full tank of gas and 4 guys in 2 to 3 foot chop it's really hard to get on plane. sometimes it can't my etec gets on plane but it can be difficult but it's a lot easier than the yamaha to get on plane. My top speed is 62mph and my buddy is 63mph so there very close and his is a tad but quieter. We both have had no problems and I have 549 hours and he has around 475 I believe that's just my 2 cents I like both motors there are identical on gas like within a .25 of a gallon when we fill up

    I hate to discredit anyone, but in the last test for my college physics class we applied the concept... power=force / time. Such that if it takes 2000 N to move an object x distance in 10 seconds, then the motor would require 200 hp at 100% efficiency to get job done.

    The other reason the E-Tec has a 17mph advantage in this test IS THE TORQUE. This is a heavy boat. In order to get the boat out of the water and onto plane it requires TORQUE. Torque is what is used to move at low speeds and move weight. If the low torque Yami can't get the boat out of the water it will never pass plowing speed. But since the E-Tec has more torque it can push the boat up. Once on plane it is easy to push fast with horsepower.

    @seadoospeedsterful oh good for you and your Mercury outboard. Where is that built? China? Japan? USA? I can't keep up. Everyone has their preference. It is clear that the Yamaha is trimmed all the way down and that is all I pointed out. If this test (among others) wasn't true why didn't Yamaha conduct some of their own testing to prove this test wrong?

    We rented a Yam 225 4 str, ETec 175 on 23 CC and Merc 140 2 str on 20' CC. Yam 225 4 str was nice, quiet, efficient but weak. The ETec 175 was far quicker and burned less gas. The 05 Merc 140 was fast, noisy, coarse (4 yrs service?) and a gas hog.
    The charterer tested a 150 ETec v. 225 Yam 4str on same boat and he will be buying 150 ETecs for his next boats. Performance is little diff. Roughly same mileage for all boats: Etec 175 (51 gal), Merc 140 (69 gal), Yam 225 (65 gal).

      it wasn't wide open u can hear him throttle back, these evinrude commercials are all hacked, yes a 2 stroke has a steeper toque band but the 4 stroke has plenty of bottom end to get that cc on a plane hell a 150 could get the job done. its crazy how they straight lie about these "tests" makes me think twice about evinrude, ill stick with the quiet reliable yami

    • @johny2535
      @johny2535 7 лет назад +3

      You guys know nothing about how engines run or why the Yamaha COULDN'T make it to full RPM......not throttle. Go buy a boat that is too big for a motor to plane it and you will see why the Yamy didn't get to "full throttle" as you call it lol

    • @GixxerManiac4dub
      @GixxerManiac4dub 7 лет назад

      lol well prop pitch can always help achieve the desired rpm on a boat motor, but ive towed boats behind me with a little 40 hp outboard and you def can hear when your holding it wide open or not regardless of getting it up on a plane or not. The throttle butterfly/flies will still be wide open regardless of rpm. Same concept of flooring a car engine with aftermarke short ram or cold air intake... u can hear the difference. Either way I still call BS on these staged commercials.

    listen to the yammie sound from 3:40 to 3:47... how is it possible that in the beginning of the shot it is louder(even though it is filmed from another boat) then the shot from the boat itself? obviously tinkering with the throttle and/or props can cause this much difference. Otherwise- you would get the same reading. Only diff would be that e tec would reach it in 8 seconds and yamaha in 20 seconds

    interesting they make no comment about props. You can't have two engines side by side without having one counter-rotating, so I'd be interested to see the prop on each. I'd also like how they cut out the bit where the exec actually gets the boat out of the hole. The video jumps from gathering like the Yamaha did to cruising at 30knots. Not a hater - just curious.

    • @herrakekkonen
      @herrakekkonen Год назад

      Yes you can. In 60's and 70's it was common. Ofcourse it's better to have them counterrotate so they cancel each other off. There's a old centerconsole in our marine (2023)with two 200 yamahas from 80's turning the same direction.

    Actually torque IS a force acting in rotation. Again once you can pass your basic physics class take a statics class.
    You wrote that torque is the moment of a force about a point. That is correct. So exactly what you said, a moment is a rotation. Torque = moment and moment = rotation so...Torque = rotation.

    Notice how they never ran against the new Suzuki 4 strokes. The comment some manufacturers switched to all 4 strokes was directed at Suzuki. And yet I never once seen a Evinrude factory test directly against Suzuki. I have seen independent tests that dont support most of the claims of the E Tech. Do your research carefully.

  • @jopa29

    I think the etec is amazing, do to the fact that its lighter and produces more power then standard 4 strokes and emits less harmful byproducts. the only down side is that they are expensive. money, money, money. you buy a brand new lund 17ft deep v for the price on one 150hp v etec. however the fact that the etec won't cause as many problems and will las for years makes it worth it. also evirudes last forever any way. i own a 55' 30hp and my grandfather and uncle own 59'modles and their great

  • @TheOfficialKC
    @TheOfficialKC 15 лет назад

    Actually no. Torque dictates how much power you have. Torque is the constant. Now you can simulate (not create) torque with gearing. Now take 2 engines, same horsepower and same gearing. The one with more torque will out accelerate the other. Re-gear the less torquey motor to boost acceleration and you then lack top speed. That is how this test works.

    they did but it up against the hpdi and it beat is hands down

    that's exactly what happened in this test....evinrude is a two stroke and there was no difference between the two engines....there might have been a difference with the the standard props but even with the same props the evinrude would win due to it's torque.

    Summarily, physics tells us:
    POWER = FORCE * VELCOCITY
    HENCE: POWER = MASS * ACCELERATION * VELOCITY
    THUS: ACCELERATION = POWER/(MASS * VELOCITY)
    DRIVEN WHEEL TORQUE is what dictates acceleration.
    And at any given vehicle speed, DRIVEN WHEEL TORQUE is proportional to engine HP (as dictated by the selected gear, which establishes the corresponding RPM - and hence HP - at that vehicle speed) minus total drive-line loss

    crap! i think they didn't put the throtle even on the half of his max with yamaha...it's so stupid

    I agree with ranger boatman. Sounds like he's feathering the throttle on the Yammmerhammmer. Anyway, without knowing what props they were using, this vid is nothing more than a evinrude commercial.

    Yamaha are by far the best and most reliable! That's why all the pros use them

    @jeflagoon 2 stroke has way more torque. If you want less power go 4 stroke.

  • @kurtfalcon

    You can't compare a 2 stroke engine with a 4 stroke. You should have used a mercury (or mariner) Optimax 225. 2 stroke vs 2 stroke.

    what this video basically says its some lakes you can only use 4 stroke motors basically what their saying is its the best you can use on those lakes. these tests i know they arent fare because their going against 4 strokes but its just marketing every single commercial says a boat motor is faster than the other

    Contradiction?
    Either you have used one so you can give me the link, or you are lying and that voids everything you say.
    Give me a link or your argument is void.

    You're contradicting yourself. The only thing you said that is correct is same hp= same top speed. Which, in this case, weight would be a factor. And lower gearing does not equal lower top speed when you have more rpms to work with. When 2 motors make the same hp but one makes less torque, it simply means the less torquey engine needs more gear reduction to produce similar torque throughout the rpms as the more torquey engine. Yamaha needs lower gearing because the powercurve requires it.
