Knocking out what I think is arguably THEE worst part about building this car and that is stripping the body down to a naked shell. That means removing all the Old Undercoating, Sound detonating, and much more. At this point after getting all of that off we should be ready to start Paint Prep. We have a painting appointment set up for the end of the month to get the body of this thing painted and prepped to go to SEMA.

When dry icing my trans tunnel, I put the ice in ziploc bags and taped it to where the shifter hole is and kept going down with it until I got it all off
More excited to see this build happen than I am to go deal with my shit box in pieces right now. haha

Omg im so relieved to hear a professional painter is doing the work lol. No offense but if your doing a Sema car, learning to paint on it is totally wild😂. If it were me i would let the painter do the whole thing and interior, but i respect the effort either way!

I really wanted to do the yellow, but it’s such a pain to try and color match stuff to it if we had to later on 😅

@@Smeedia Sunburst Yellow is the JDM yellow. Competition Yellow Mica is the USDM RARE Color. But like you said its an absolute PITA to color match and its uglier.
Alpine white will definitely look good considering the car will be super duper clean overall. What rim color you thinking?

For the dry ice, using a little rubbing alcohal (iirc) I think can make it go a bit further and make the insulation come apart quicker.
I’ll definitely try this next time, the old stuff thankfully came off pretty easy
For the tunnel, you can use some tape and cardboard, you tape under the bottom edge, connect cardboard to flop over, and then just a strip of tape to hold in place when you pack with dry ice.
Once you finish priming and painting the inside, you should totally dynamat the entire inside. The car is going to look sick once it's done. Can you imagine it also being quiet and comfy on the inside?! Here's your chance!
We will toss some new and updated dynamat in 🙌 it’s not a race car so having some of the creature comforts will be nice

Does the undercoat need be removed to chemically dip the body? I've seen acid dip tanks take everything down to bare metal.
I don’t think so, I’m pretty sure chemically stripping will just melt it all off 😅
Get one of these man -- Craftsman Adjustable Shop Stool 93382 --, and you should be able to save a lot of energy when doing things like undercoating removal. Especially since ya got a lift, work smarter not harder.

Literal days 😂 that undercoating took forever to get off
Aircraft paint removers the best it might take a couple coats to get it all off but it works really good I stripped my entire vw bug with it
Not the hammering dents into the floor though....
Luckily very few, the carpenter hammer was not denting it. I tried a mini sledge at first and that most definitely did. Stopped using that and swapped to the smaller one with the scrapper

A bit late now. But a heat gun and scraper will be far easier to get undercoating off than the grinder aye 😂. Then white spirits to clean the residue off. Degrease and be done! Far less physical effort and time haha
My father owns an auto glass business and he DOES have 40+ years experience and I’ve been helping him since I was old enough so atleast 20 years experience for me.. I highly enjoyed the windshield removal 😂

I picked up some Techron fuel system shit this weekend, haven't had a chance to run it yet.
Just call up a mobile glass guy to take out the hatch glass... I'm assuming you've got those out there. It'll pay for itself vs breaking that glass and having to source another one.
100% mobile glass guy will be doing the rear glass. I am not messing with that 😅

For the vertical panels put the dry Ice in a plastic bag and duct tape it to the panel you want to take off. Sounds stupid but it works.
You always break your first windshield unless you got a pro with ya. You shoulda gone to the junk/salvage yard and tried a couple first to get the hang of it. That's how I did it. I must broke 3 Cavalier windshields til I got the hang of the rope and seperators.
We figured it would probably break 😅 pretty sure that was the Og window from 93. Going to get a new one in. Definitely bit harder than I thought to remove the glass 😅

@@Smeedia I like it the interior is a little more spacious for me. I'm 6 4 and the out going Tacoma v6 was legatheric when loaded up. The frontier has a new 9 speed auto. And the frame suspension and driveline is all carry over from the last generation late update frontier. So parts are aplenty. I bought It knowing this. As a pro. A con is that it's still got Nissan isms like the interior was new for 2022 and it's straight outta 2015 but it's also a benefit as ira simple to use and understand. For the price I got a sv wirh heated cloth seats no sunroof and heated steering wheel and android auto. Overall I'm happy. Only other vehicle I was gonna compare was the last gen gmc canyon v6 but for the price of a used one.. I went new Nissan. The new Tacoma doesn't interest me with the mild hybrid.. And it's expensive.

If you're going to re apply sound deadener I strongly recommend Second Skin Damplifier Pro (made in the USA) and if you want to go the extra mile then get some luxury liner or luxury liner Pro to go over the Damplifier

@smeedia should have mixed the dry ice with metho and isopropyl alcohol. Liquids won't freeze but will make a super cold slush that covers bigger surface area

mazda chaste white(rx7 white) Is so close to alpine white if you wanted to use an rx7 color.
The reason people use those hole plugs on the hatch is because welding and grinding near the glass gives nightmares lol. Same as trying to remove the glass from the hatch.
Having a glass guy come deal with the hatch glass 😅 not something I’ll even mess with after the windshield fiasco 😂 I have new seals and trim for it so it’s gotta come out one way or another 😂
yo, holding up the grinder was such an unexpected pain when I did my Evo, my hands honestly tingled for like an hour after I would stop for the day hahah

I did slightly, I ended up getting a good portion from the inside of the panel then finishing the radius with the glazing puddy

Try using the freeze spray next time for the sound deadening removal. You spray it on and hit it with a hammer then comes off in one piece

Next time you do a windshield they sell a tool for your Sawzall that looks like a pudy knife. Done in 5 min
That’s what I ended up swapping to kinda 😅 I had a multi tool with a little spatula attachment. Still took a little bit of time but she came out 🙌 those windshield kits suuuuuuck 😂

Pro tip. Use your bare hands with dry ice rather than nitrile gloves. This prevents the leidenfrost effect happen and you could be at bigger risk for frostbite as the gloves act as a conductor. In theory you could freeze the gloves to your hand for longer duration. (better to use the correct insulated gloves overall)
Most the time I was just using my leather gloves whenever dealing with it but most definitely. Freezing the nitrile gloves to my hands would be an absolute nightmare 😂😅
