    Hey Starla! I love the videos and the lives you make! I started watching you and your channel a couple months ago, and have been grinding on your videos and implementing it into my Etsy shop. This video called out to me because I have 50 listings in my Etsy shop but only 4 sales. I started in the beginning of November and got the sales during the holiday rush season. However since then I’ve had no sales. So thank you for the advice and I send best wishes your way! 🥳❤️

      If you arrived here, you should keep digging until reaching the youtube channels that recomends listing lots of (of course, real) listings, not just 6 in two months. That means you uploaded 1 item each 10 days. The algorithim totally ignores you, you dont even exists for etsy.

    As usual, such a great video. I really appreciate the step by step process. It takes so much of the guess work out of working this business. Etsy (or any other business) requires a great deal of invested time for learning and also for experimentation to see what works for your products. Anyone who is getting rich quick with their own designs is lucky. Most people are putting in the hours. Thanks for what you do!

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 месяца назад

      Absolutely! Overnight success should not be a realistic expectation for any business, and those who make it seem like the norm might as well be advertising that everyone who plays the lottery is destined to win. Running a successful Etsy shop takes a lot of work and every industry, product, and even the season can impact the likelihood of an item gaining traction. The strategy I teach in this video is the strategy I've used as someone who has run multiple Etsy shops over 12 years - but it's not THE strategy. It's "a strategy". 🙂 There are lots of different ways to make a grilled cheese. This just happens to be the method that works best for me, as someone who likes the scientific side of selling.

    Question , I have quite a few older listings that I want to spruce up and update SEO, titles and keywords. Is it better to change only a few or a bunch at the same time?

    • @StarlaMoore

      I'm always a fan if making slow changes. If something were to go wrong when making bulk changes, you'll have no way to mediate the situation. Tanking one listing is better than tanking a ton of listings at the same time, so I always recommend taking things slow.

      @StarlaMoore  4 месяца назад

      There's absolutely no evidence to support that a fresh listing will perform better than a listing with history. Especially for those listings that have made sales in the past. Those listings have past listing quality scores and positive history, so by starting over, you're basically wiping all of that positive history away. It's better to make improvements to existing listings.

  • @staciphelps4034
    @staciphelps4034 4 месяца назад

    Starla great info as always. Quick question... for the 1,000ish search volume would that be for the general item (coaster) or do we need to be looking for that in our niche area?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 месяца назад

      Start with the general keyword. If no one is searching for that most base level term, it's very likely that the searches aren't going to get better by niching it down. You can always check to see if the search volumes increase for your specific niche item. But, for example, if no one is searching for "blanket", it's unlikely that anyone is searching for "chunky knit blanket". So when I say to stick to ideas with at least 1000 monthly searches before developing products, this is specifically for gauging interest in the type of item. When doing SEO specifically, you'll want to target more specific niche terms.

      Yes, it is possible to revive an old shop. Actually, it's better to revive an old shop than to start a new one as many new shops seem to be suspended at least for a time when first beginning. As for running sales constantly, that has never been a practice that I recommend because it devalues your products and your shops, and customer come to expect the sale prices.

    I’ve heard you say before it’s good to wait a few months when opening a new store for Etsy to recognize you. How long after the first 90 days should I start being concerned from lack of traffic/no sales?

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 месяца назад

      It's best to give listings a period of 60 to 90 days before you begin tweaking your tags and titles, specifically. When you list a new item on Etsy, Etsy gives that listing a slight boost in search in order to observe how shoppers interact with the listing. During this time, Etsy moves this listing around, showing it to different types of people. Sales and positive reviews during this time can help to boost your listing quality score, which can help to improve it's rank because this shows Etsy that people are interested in the item. For that first 60 to 90ish days, it's best to leave the tags and titles of new listings alone so that you aren't interrupting this assessment process by constantly updating the keywords you want to be known for.

      As of right now, no. Because gift mode is it's own "section" of Etsy. It doesn't have any impact on the general marketplace's search algorithm because these things aren't really connected.

    Is there a ratio between # of searches, or # clicks to Etsy competition that we can use as a rule of thumb to decide if the demand is high enough to compete in a particular niche/product?. If anyone has any idea how to go about this I can use a helping hand. Thanks.

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 месяца назад

      Unfortunately there isn't. Every seller will have different experiences/challenges when ranking in search. For example, a shop that has a lot of sales will have higher listing quality scores and higher customer and marketplace experience scores, making it easier for this seller to rank in search for new listings. For this seller, they'll have an easier time ranking in search for highly competitive keywords because they already have a bit of marketplace authority.
      For a new seller with no sales, competition is something this seller would need to be mindful of because they do not already have authority in the marketplace and Etsy isn't likely to rank this seller high in search right from the start.
      I have a great live webinar where I cover this topic a bit more in depth: ruclips.net/user/livebF78q7d_PhY?si=wUHJChiJ8nxYrL8K
      When it comes to Etsy, every single seller will have different experiences based on their own personal track records on the platform. So there's sadly no-size-fits-all ratio or formula that can universally reflect all sellers.

      Views from Google just mean that the listing was well optimized for google. But it isn't necessarily an indicator of success if the listing never sells. I would focus primarily on listings that have no traffic. But, if the listing with Google views still gains no additional traction over the course of a few months (especially in Etsy search), I would consider re-evaluating your SEO for that listing.

    • @StarlaMoore
      @StarlaMoore  4 месяца назад

      A longtail keyword is ANY descriptive term that indicates a very specific item, made up of more than one word. So you don't need eRank to tell you what is a longtail keyword and what isn't. For example, "mug" is not a longtail keyword. "Orange tabby cat mug" IS a longtail keyword because it points to a very specific type of item.

      That's because you're not looking at this data correctly. 🙂 Etsy search includes ads which are every 3rd row which makes up a lot of listings, but are not factored into our organic competition because listings are not technically listings that are ranking in organic search ( ads have their own algorithm).
      eRank will show you exact matches and not partial, mix-and-matched, or closely related matches, whereas Etsy results include keywords that are scrambled in every possible combination throughout tags, titles, descriptions, and attributes. What we provide at eRank are average competition rates. Understanding how to use those averages is essential though, which is why we have a massive library of resources to help, including a blog, help files, 24 hour chat support, a RUclips channel, and I also go live with Pam Duthie every single thursday to coach sellers on the eRank channel. That is also what I was referring to. Those competition numbers are based on specific exact match instances within Etsy search. Whereas Etsy, when showing total competition, also factors in broad matching and ads. The purpose of studying averages is to gain comparative understanding. Attempting to compare data scenarios one-for-one unfortunately isn't possible in any data scenario where 100% of the data is not supplied by Etsy. Which is why averages are statistically accurate when compared between themselves.

    i have an issue. There are several channels that offer tips. Even people who claim making thousands (like ALEK) . If you know so much and make so much money, why do you even bother to make vids? Editing takes lots of time, even if you pay other to make the editingm, YOU are there showing the face, having to learn/read the script. Why, why if you have the knowledge are here making vids (to any of youtubers who give etsy tips)

      I am a manager at the world's largest Etsy SEO company where my job is educating sellers.
      This is akin to saying, "Why be a college professor? If you're so smart, why not get a job doing what you teach?"
      I am a teacher. I went to school to be a teacher. I've run multiple businesses over the years and decided to take that knowledge and combine it with what I already went to school to do. As an active Etsy seller, a professional educator, a manager at the world's leading SEO company, and as someone with experience in marketing, human psychology, and neuroscience... why the heck wouldn't I share that knowledge here? I have a community I genuinely care about here on RUclips.
      I think the real question you should be asking yourself is... why does my desire to teach bother you? I teach at colleges, at high schools, on stages, and virtually. Because I'm a teacher. And I'm daaaaaamn good at it 🫡
