Something I rarely see mentioned in small business/side hustle videos is that you don’t actually make the amount you charge as you need to put aside about 30% for taxes
As a freelancer / self-employed person it took me literally until this moment to realize why people call side hustles side hustles. It’s because mentally you’re thinking of a salaried job provided by a company as a “main thing”. As someone who has never worked for anyone in my life it just never dawned on me. For whoever needs to hear this, that feels like a hindering mentality. If you’re a decently smart and driven person, you’ll be fine working for yourself. You’ll have so much more control and freedom and also will give so fewer shits what people think of you. Can’t recommend it enough.
Can you share tips on getting started in freelance/self-employement? How did you learn, which niches do you recommend, and what software do you use daily? How do you structure your day? Any advice is appreciated.
Biggest lesson i learnt in 2024 in the stock market is that nobody knows what is going to happen next, so practice some humility and low a strategy with a long term edge.
Nobody knows anything; You need to create your own process, manage risk, and stick to the plan, through thick or thin, While also continuously learning from mistakes and improving.
Uncertainty... it took me 5 years to stop trying to predict what’s about to happen in market based on charts studying, cause you never know. not having a mentor cost me 3 years of pain I learn to go we’re the market is wanting to go and keep it simple with discipline.
Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with Julianne Iwersen-Niemann for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive. She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.
@@jc4evur661DoorDash is good when you’re putting in 80 hours active time. 1K or more a week. However it’ll be $80-$100 in gas a week. If you can get into grocery shopping, try that. You’ll make your money goal quicker.
I did this for a while. I totally agree it depends on the area you go to. Also keep in mind construction and traffic patters in the area that will slow you down, it does in my area. They higher end neighborhoods tip better and that is a big plus. Also the times you are delivering weekend lunch and nights are better. Lunchtimes during the week in a corporate area! There is wear and tear on your car so consider that.
I began my investment journey at the age of 33, primarily through hard work and dedication. Now at the age of 58, I am thrilled to share that my passive income exceeded $100k in a single month for the first time. This success reinforces the importance of the advice mentioned earlier. It is not about achieving quick wealth, but rather ensuring long-term financial prosperity.
Investors should exercise caution with their exposure and exercise caution when considering new investments, particularly during periods of inflation. It is advisable to seek guidance from a professional or trusted advisor in order to navigate this recession and achieve potential high yields.
I agree, having a brokerage advisor for investing is genius! Amidst the financial crisis in 2008, I was really having investing nightmare prior touching base with a advisor. In a nutshell, i've accrued over $2m with the help of my advisor from an initial $350k investment.
@@mellon-wrigley3 Kudos on the effective execution of innovative ideas and tactics that lead to significant advancement. As I seek guidance from a trustworthy advisor, would you be willing to share details about the individual assisting you?
This video was SO helpful! I recently became a stay at home mom because we can’t afford childcare. We have applied and been denied financial assistance programs through our county and state, and we can’t afford to pay our bills on just my husband’s income. After watching your video, I decided to try being a dog walker and bringing my toddler along in his stroller. In just 3 days I made over $100! I would’ve never thought of dog walking as a side hustle, so thank you for the inspiration to start!
Wow this is so amazing! Congrats! Are you using wag as the platform to walk? I’m so glad you’re able to find something easy and doable to bring in a little extra income!
Yes, primarily I have been doing dog walking with both apps. However there are other services that I can do as well including check-ins, overnight stays, etc!
Do you let the owners know there will be a child with you? How do you go about asking if a dog is friendly with children? Thinking about doing this but slightly worried.
My side hustle will be to start a youtube channel about doing rover inspired etsy products, self delivered by me, while virtually assisting folks with my online course that they bought from my store, all while recording my podcast
I just recently started door dashing and let me tell y’all that I am so glad I decided to start! I was very hesitant because everyone would say the money wasn’t good, but I made $264 in 7.25 hours! I door dash on my free time usually during the nights, so it’s a really good side hustle if you have the extra time and a car you don’t care about racking miles on!
That’s good. That’s like double the pay at my job 😅😅 hope it’s going super well for you. I heard creepy/weird stories about doing doordash tho so becareful
We need a part two, I love the way you broke each one of these down with the pros and cons of each and skills needed. This is one of the better side hustle videos on YT! 👍
I loved your video. I have had a side hustle for over 40 years and I’m still hustling at age 85. A hobby turned into earned income. I love what I do. Your ideas are great and your presentation is awesome. I am excited to see your next video on this topic. It is never too late to add to our side jobs.
I'm a big believer in the power of side hustles, and your insights are spot on! The idea of having multiple income streams is a smart strategy, especially in today's job market. I appreciate how you've broken down the skills required, ease of starting, and potential upside for each option. Your video is incredibly informative and motivating. Thanks for sharing these side hustle ideas!
Pet sitting is a definite nice add on income for especially seniors. Especially stay at the homes to decrease the animal's stress and house sit, get mail and water plants. Not necessarily needing to walk the dogs. Getting seniors to their shopping or doing shopping to help them. If you can offer cleaning senior apts and keep it reasonable for them it is a wonderful help for seniors. Senior companion to fix a few meals or just being for them. Lits if baby boomers needing reasonable assistance.
I love the practical side of this video. There’s so many people just trying to make it seem like you can make a million dollars overnight without thought or planning… I love how realistic this was and informational. I would be interested in more like this. I’m currently doing RUclips and interested in doing more
Thank you for this video. Its completely honest and no false hopes.. Side hustles arent easy, they need patience and willing to learn a skill to make money. Those who have it, will make it. Part 2 will be greatly appreciated.
I'm just trying to get a hustle that covers my part of the rent in NYC. My side of the rent is $800. I just want to make an additional 10k - 15k. I feel like this video made me realize it's possible. I just have to initiate it. I'm okay with $500 extra a month. But my goal would be $800 that way I have more of my money coming from my full time job to invest, put into my Roth IRA. Thank you for this! For helping us be realistic and yet hopeful.
Yes, I agree. My friend gave me that advice years ago... that you can always be fired/disposable when you work for someone else. I am tired of having no time for myself so... Glad I found your video!! 🤗🤗🤩💙💜💗
Thank you for sharing this video. I definitely need it. Just found out I’m losing my college instructor position after 18 years. You are 100% right when you said you’re only a number. They don’t care how much you went above and beyond when it’s time to give you the boot! Time we all start making money for ourselves instead of others. 😊😜
No disrespect as you seem nice and genuine, but nobody has any new ideas. Every RUclips video on side hustles suggests exactly the same handful of prospective moneymakers and there’s an inconsistency in how much they claim you can make through each of them. To be fair, I can’t think of anything original either but I’m not portraying myself as a font of knowledge. Presumably, why it’s so hard to make money from a side hustle is because a gazillion people follow this kind of unoriginal advice and crowd the market, making it harder to find opportunities and driving down the price. Just for once, it’d be great if someone suggested something innovative.
Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ I was laid off from my job of 25 years and you're right, they only see us as a number. It's terrible but I see it as a blessing in disguise. I'm going to start my Etsy store soon. ❤
What is missing from videos like this is a realistic approach as to how much money you need to start a business based on the product or service , trademark? , llc, accounting, inventory storage, shipping / shipping supplies and marketing/ equipment to market, payment apps and fees, etc. I have a hard time finding an all in one video like that. It takes money for fees and a lot of time to market for customers. I was discouraged because it takes a lot of money to maintain the business in general especially upfront and I don’t like being on camera 🫤.
Thank goodness you brought this up! Truly, investing has changed my perspective on how one can succeed in life; working multiple jobs isn't the optimal way to attain financial freedom and unfortunately, we discover this later in life. Currently earn as much as 10 grand weekly and this has improved my financial life. Great piece!
she's a known advisor. I actually did look her up curiously and went through her credentials on her webbsite... Top-notch! I wrote her an email, hopefully she's accepting new intakes.
Best life changing advice is to pick a good financial mentor and let them guide you towards wealth. This really saves you from loss and time wasting. I am glad I know Olivia Sullivan.
Every day we encounter novel challenges that have become the new standard. Although we previously perceived it as a crisis, we now acknowledge it as the new normal and must adapt accordingly. Given the current economic difficulties that the country is experiencing in 2023, how can we enhance our earnings during this period of adjustment? I cannot let my $680,000 savings vanish after putting in so much effort to accumulate them.
Despite hearing that insider trading secrets could lead to making millions in the financial market, I hesitated to invest as I lack the required skills and a sound strategy to surpass the market and achieve profitable returns. Additionally, although I possess $160,000, I find it challenging to take the plunge due to a shortage of funds.
The pathway to substantial returns doesn't solely rely on stocks with significant movements. Instead, it revolves around effectively managing risk relative to reward. By appropriately sizing your positions and capitalizing on your advantage repeatedly, you can progressively work towards achieving your financial goals. This principle applies across various investment approaches, whether it be long-term investing or day trading.
You can start by dollar-cost averaging instead of buying a lump sum at once. Also, consult a fiduciary with crypto expertise for informed buying and selling decisions since talks of a bitcoin ETF approval. Time in the market is more valuable than timing it. Using this approach, I grew my crypto holdings from $50k in 2017 to $690k in 2023.
The decision on when to pick an Adviser is a very personal one. I take guidance from *Gertrude Margaret Quinto* to meet my growth goals and avoid mistakes, she's well-qualified and her page can be easily found on the net.
I came from your 3k sub income video after you referenced this and let me just say, usually these types of video make me feel sceptical but you come across and trustworthy
Thank you for all your ideas so needed in this day and age where people need more money and not internet and social media savvy. I am 60 and even though I worked on a computer for years doesn’t mean I know how to jump into Etsy (I want to but all videos to do print on demand are technical and go too fast) utube or making my own videos, so your info is extremely appreciated. Yes, more videos needed. 😊
Agreed! Not everyone knows how to use technology in a way to generate income. Hope you enjoyed and find my other videos helpful as well!! I’ll definitely work on additions videos on income streams as well!
Watched the whole video & appreciate the tips. I agree with people mentioning taxes & such. For example, the Uber sample income you stated would be entirely wiped out by paying for gas, car washes, & eventually maintenance. I know that's supposed to be obvious, but people really do forget how much of your income isn't going to your pocket. My other thoughts, that may come in handy for if you make future vids on this subject, is that some of these "side hustles" are truly another person's career. Meaning 2 things: (1) a lot more goes into it than it seems, which takes much more time than what a side hustle means (2) Setting "competitive" (too low) prices because someone is an amateur amongst experts, is actually bad for those careers. The example you used was copywriting. Although you don't need university, I did my studies in multiple areas related to copywriting & is definitely a bummer when someone thinks it's a cute, easy path to lots of money or a random hobby to devalue. Again, I totally appreciate your video & respect that you're helping others, trying many things, and being a living example for viewers. My overall suggestion is simply to consider people to not devalue themselves or others for measly amounts. Nobody can manage all 10+ of those, so whatever people choose, I hope they practice quality & thoughtfulness ✨️
I watched the entire video! Glad RUclips recommended this to me. I hope you'd keep making more videos similar to this. Your channel will blow-up soonest for sure!
Thank you so much for sharing this video and your knowledge. I had the idea of starting my own biz back in 2015, and then I became a Mom and had a steady career in the financial industry, and didn’t pursue it. I now have two children, was laid off in July, and have decided now is clearly my time. All the signs in the universe are guiding me this way. I plan to get started just using my IPhone and I’ve been waiting for the new Iphone release, but maybe I should just give it a go😊. I have experience in public speaking and a Ton of zoom calls, so I think I just need to jump in.
I ❤️❤️❤️ how transparent you are! I respect RUclipsrs who tell the truth about the amount of money you've made. It really hit me how very untruthful many are when I read that Content Creators make an average of 59k per year, which is a huge difference between that and 6 figure!
Thank you so much for sharing ️ I was laid off from my job of 25 years and you're right, they only see us as a number. It's terrible but I see it as a blessing in disguise. I'm going to start my Etsy store soon.
Definitely!! You are very personable & seem very comfortable speaking to the camera so I think you would definitely be successful at being a Podcaster!! I like to listen to you because you come across very professional!! Thanks for this informative video btw 😁
Great info. I just retired and still feel like I just have lots too offer. Additionally, Mr. Bill collector never retires and I don't feel like giving him all my hard earned money. Wishing you much success!
My husband did food delivery for about 3-4 hours a day when we were in a tough spot, and he could make up to $300 per day with the tips he made. It definitely helped pay the bills.
Love a good side hustle! I drove door dash for a while. Didn't make a ton but it was about 15 an hour. And not hard to do at all, I needed a more gas efficient car though 😅
Yeah, I think remembering you doing that was the inspiration for that idea! Definitely think fuel efficient cars are key for that to make sense though. I want to do a part 2 and talk about some of the other side hustles you’re doing now ☺️
Dear Jess! I appreciate you giving your great advice. I love when you make videos. Honestly achieving financial stability requires intentional planning, unwavering dedication, and consistent effort, rather than being a matter of luck. I owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Maya Payson, for her invaluable guidance, which has enabled me to generate weekly income ranging from $5000 to $7000.
This lady called Maya Payson must be very good for people to talk about her this much. she handles my colleague's investment too. I'm surprised to see you talking about her.

Great list but you've underestimated delivery drivers - depending on your area and how many hours you put into it you could make over $300 per week, not $300 per month.
My son did Uber Eats and pretty easily made $100 a day. You get a feel for what jobs are worth taking and what ones aren't. The problem is wear and tear on your car. He had an older car and pretty much ran it into the ground. It needs to get good gas mileage as well.
Boy! I wish I could have a cup of coffee with you! It's so easy and soothing to listen to you. Thanks for the great tips! I've been wishing to start a podcast and now I wish to have a healthy cooking RUclips channel, I got inspired by this video 😂❤
I really appreciate your income transparency. My financial manager has helped me to develop a plan that is designed to fit my needs and maximise my finances. With her support and guidance, I have been able to make smart and prudent choices when it comes to my money. Thank you Mrs. Maya Payson.
It seems Maya Payson must be a highly skilled professional, given the amount of positive feedback she receives. Interestingly, she also manages the investments of one of my colleagues. I'm impressed that you are aware of her as well.
Yes Angel she's very good, she is straightforward and one of the best so far. People who don't know her or those that haven't invested with her. would say otherwise but the honest truth is that she has helped more people than i can count and that has to stand for something.
If you’re selling some thing for $50, you have to pay the company that is marketing you their commission so you don’t make $50 per class or per dog walking, etc.
I love how genuine and relateable you are! I'm trying to find different ways to make income from home and start a new chapter in my life, if you will. I'm embarrassed to say I have watched serval videos on this stuff, and your video is truly inspiring.
Thank you! Great ideas and reminding me to create. I was laid off last week and my husband was laid off a few months ago. And I think aside from looking for new jobs, we definitely will continue to work on our side hustles!

@@jessssalemme Thank you! Yea definitely a shock. What a great video! Wish I had seen this 10 months ago when I was unemployed. But I’ll certainly be saving this video and sharing it with others. Wanted to go on the whole delivery driving thing. There is strategy and knowledge involved with doing delivery driving. I made it my main financial earnings last year and could bring in anywhere from 300 to $400 a week working maybe 15 to 20 hours. I personally would give it more of a three or four :)
At least somthing if your car is decent... nice to know... but yes, tires, brakes and rotars, oil change and fluids... repairs... like mentioned taxes... can put back a percentage... use extra to save
This is the first video of yours that I’ve seen. You are doing a great job & best wishes for much success.♥️I’m 55 and I wish I had the tech skills it takes to do some of these side hustles…wanting to make money so I can get a divorce & not leave him with any bills… GOOD LUCK TO ALL💰
Where I live, things are a bit complicated on the business front. I've managed to experiment with a few things, especially with friends living in other countries. It's been a journey. What's giving me second thoughts about jumping into a side hustle is this eye-opening revelation, 9-to-5 employees are disposable! The corporate world is playing a dirty game, tossing aside people's lives, careers, and dreams for profit. Alright, I'll just work independently then!
Do you have a video discussing what it takes to prepare for filing taxes, expenses, actual income, if a reseller - purchasing your inventory. Or is there a class available that you know about? Thanks for all your ideas. 😊
Hi! I don’t but I highly recommend setting up a meeting with a tax accountant in your local area to answer some of these things (at least to put your mind at ease for taxes, expenses, and income)
Great tips, thank you! Would you be willing to do another video about how to manage self-employment and accounting tips to manage these streams of income? Paying social security and Medicare obligations, etc.?
I like number 1. Selling on Etsy is a good idea! A lot of people have started selling tumbler wraps recently. It's one of the easiest things to sell on Etsy right now. I made a video about it.
Very useful vedio Thank you for sharing. Yeah I use to do freelance type work as a book keeper and some accounting but it was too much responsibility😅 Now I would really like to invest in stocks as a side job, that's my dream.
I appreciate the video and applaud your drive. Just wanted to let you know your information regarding the potential income for Uber and Lyft drivers is extremely incorrect. If you’re in a busy city or any highly populated area and you put in 30 to 40 hours a week you can easily make $1000 a week. The problem with getting information from an article online that looks for averages is the information from drivers in low population areas who can’t make that much money brings down, the average creating an accurate representation. I started driving for Uber a few months ago and do it very part-time and at the minimum of 78 hour shift I make $150-$200 on a Saturday night it’s easy to make over $400. I say this with love and appreciation. Still love the video and good luck on your journey.!
good to know! thank you for the insight. I think I was assuming as a side hustle, only doing it maybe 5 or so hours per week. this is super helpful though so thank you!
This is such a good reminder to get back into my Etsy shop! I used to love LTK, but I can’t see myself using it much anymore…the amazon haul try ons always made me decent sales though! Love the video Jess!!
Thank you! Yeah Etsy hasn’t been a priority for me either but it’s just kind of a great way for passive income especially if you are doing digital downloads and things like that! Glad you liked this one amy, and always appreciate you supporting me! 💗
How about a simple parking lot litter cleanup service? It's not sexy or glamorous but ordinary people are making fortunes by cleaning up after others. The work is done on-foot with simple hand tools. Almost as easy as going for a walk! I started this as a side gig in 1981 and grew it into a six-figure business.
How did you start this? I will go and clean up local parks for free because I want it to be clean and would be willing to put in the work to do something like this

One of the fall backs of online shops like Etsy and selling courses is that you have to market the heck out of it to get anywhere. So it's not exactly post it and relax sort of thing. It's actually a lot of ongoing work.

Something I rarely see mentioned in small business/side hustle videos is that you don’t actually make the amount you charge as you need to put aside about 30% for taxes

That’s because it’s common sense so it doesn’t need to be mentioned.

Correct but a lot of your expenses are tax write offs

My needs are kind of unique and complex. I'll contact her nonetheless, and I hope I'm able to make something out of it.
Yay go mom!
Do you let the owners know there will be a child with you? How do you go about asking if a dog is friendly with children? Thinking about doing this but slightly worried.
What site are you on or did you post locally?
My side hustle will be to start a youtube channel about doing rover inspired etsy products, self delivered by me, while virtually assisting folks with my online course that they bought from my store, all while recording my podcast
I love this plan
Haha! 🤣
There’s only 7 days a week how u gon do all this ..
The shade in this comment is hilarious
What is rover?
I just recently started door dashing and let me tell y’all that I am so glad I decided to start! I was very hesitant because everyone would say the money wasn’t good, but I made $264 in 7.25 hours! I door dash on my free time usually during the nights, so it’s a really good side hustle if you have the extra time and a car you don’t care about racking miles on!
Love that! Thank you for sharing!
That’s good. That’s like double the pay at my job 😅😅 hope it’s going super well for you. I heard creepy/weird stories about doing doordash tho so becareful
Good job keep IT as a part time.
I need a part time and was iffy about dashing but this motivated me lol!
How about today’s gas prices though? In California gas is almost 7 dollars a gallon! This can’t be profitable in California.
We need a part two, I love the way you broke each one of these down with the pros and cons of each and skills needed. This is one of the better side hustle videos on YT! 👍
I’m so happy you realized you will ALWAYS be disposable to a company.
I loved your video. I have had a side hustle for over 40 years and I’m still hustling at age 85. A hobby turned into earned income. I love what I do. Your ideas are great and your presentation is awesome. I am excited to see your next video on this topic. It is never too late to add to our side jobs.
I'd love to know what your side hustle is. If you've had the same side hustle for over years, I think it's definitely a mention-worthy hustle!
I would love to know your side hustle … anything to help us seniors make some extra $$ … thanks
I’m currently doing RUclips and interested in doing more
Thank you! I’m so glad you found it helpful! 💗
Thank you for this video. Its completely honest and no false hopes.. Side hustles arent easy, they need patience and willing to learn a skill to make money. Those who have it, will make it. Part 2 will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you! So glad you enjoyed this!
Don't you get tenure after 3 years?
Maybe start your channel and do exactly that
Thank you so much for sharing ❤️ I was laid off from my job of 25 years and you're right, they only see us as a number. It's terrible but I see it as a blessing in disguise. I'm going to start my Etsy store soon. ❤
I love that! Wishing you best of luck!! 💕
@jessssalemme Thank you so much! 🫶💞

You can slow videos down in settings and turn on captions. You could also take screenshots to record steps.
Thank you!

Thank you!

Michael, your tactics are incredible Which one are you recommend for the beginners?

It seems Maya Payson must be a highly skilled professional, given the amount of positive feedback she receives. Interestingly, she also manages the investments of one of my colleagues. I'm impressed that you are aware of her as well.
Yes Angel she's very good, she is straightforward and one of the best so far. People who don't know her or those that haven't invested with her. would say otherwise but the honest truth is that she has helped more people than i can count and that has to stand for something.

If you’re selling some thing for $50, you have to pay the company that is marketing you their commission so you don’t make $50 per class or per dog walking, etc.

Wanted to go on the whole delivery driving thing. There is strategy and knowledge involved with doing delivery driving. I made it my main financial earnings last year and could bring in anywhere from 300 to $400 a week working maybe 15 to 20 hours. I personally would give it more of a three or four :)

Would love to see a video on any affiliate marketing routes that you’re aware of/doing.
Paying social security and Medicare obligations, etc.?

really it was a good video, and doable. not like others who only press on expensive options like realtor business, airbnb business and stock exchange.

One of the fall backs of online shops like Etsy and selling courses is that you have to market the heck out of it to get anywhere. So it's not exactly post it and relax sort of thing. It's actually a lot of ongoing work.
Hi, I am a new subscriber. I don't know how you popped up in my algorithm but I am so glad that you did. I definitely would love to see a part 2 of the side hustles. I definitely need to find a side hustle or 2 or 3. And I would love to get more ideas. I loved your video. Thank you so much. For sharing them with us
Thanks for watching! I just made a new video last week!
The two easiest side hustles to start are RUclips channel, and podcast. Some of the other side hustles can piggy back those two. Podcasting/vlogging kits are available for less than $100 USD.
Yes I feel it. I been lay off too.
Awesome video..I do Uber eats as a side hustle..I can’t get on door dash..always looking for new ideas..thank you so much.
