- This was a trip! Queen fans have asked us for a while to react to "Ogre Battle" live from Hammersmith Odeon in 1975. The style, the pyrotechnics, the lighting, all combined to make this a fun one, but Brian's guitar was on point in this one and stood out the most.

Queen were a hard rock band in the early seventies. Best time for them.
Roger’s drums + vocals are out of this world, as usual
I was there at my first Queen concert at the tender age of 13. Thanks cousin for taking me.
That's awesome!
Gracias Amigos y Amigas por compartir este recital,Me parte la cabeza.
Thanks for watching.
This concert was live on the BBC,Christmas eve 1975 on the strength of the success of Bohemian Rhapsody.
A QUEEN II track, I couldn't imagine it being staged, but they did! Amazing. Fans at that Concert must have been mesmerised.
Just four men making that sound, not like today's music, much more involved
Brian is one of dark haired guitarist/pianist Miyako of LOVEBITES influences and heroes. She recently went to the cinema in Tokyo to see Queen live in Montreal (I think it was). To appreciate this performance fully you really should listen to the studio original. It’s a very difficult song to pull off live, and Freddie was one of very few artists who could have made a good fist of it.
The studio version is so amazingly perfect, harmonies bouncing off harmonies! On the album, the next song is played backwards at the start of this and literally FLIPS OVER in your headphones and plays forward! Tellin ya, you’re missing out.
Yeah, you did it!!! Love it!! One of Freddie's fairy tales. I was in my teens in the 70s and it was the best, especially with Queen !
Well y’all know how I feel about early Queen, they were as heavy or heavier than anyone!… story telling like only Queen could do LOL. This one takes a few listens to really get. But thanks for playing this! Brian May for many years said that Queen II was his favorite album. He loved compositions like this!
Loved the guitar on this one!
I have this whole concert which is epic. Roger Hitting those high notes, dayum. Please react to Staying Power live at Milton Keynes 1982.
This is a good one!
We need A Kind Of Magic live Wembley 1986 Saturday performance! Great quality and better sound quality of the vocals and instruments! Written by Roger and in my opinion is one of John's best bass lines!
You will love it! 👍👌🔥💯😄
…I guess this is one of those Queen fans agree-to-disagree moments: I feel Friday is so much BETTER just from the standpoint of Freddie’s vocals, I almost never watch Saturday’s performance when it’s reacted to. (shrugging shoulders)🖖
This was awsome ... I hope you will react to Queen's Big Spender/Jailhouse Rock ancore from the same gig (Hammersmith Odeon 1975) ... some amazing clothes stripping from Freddie (nothing inappropriate) along with incredible singing and 🎸🥁 ...
But if you didn't do In the Lap of the Gods (from the same gig ... Hammersmith Odeon 1975) you must do that first... do not miss the end when Christmas presents for the audience were thrown from the ceiling 😂 ( the gig was held at the Christmas eve 😅)
Love this song. Thanks for the review. Boomer Sooner. 4peat baby!!!
When Queen started, Freddie was the costume chooser and Zandra Rhodes was the costume designer. You can see in early Queen concerts that they all only wore black and white, sometimes all white, sometimes all black, mostly mixed between the 4 of them. Freddie said black and white was more theatrical and the white he wore a lot in the early days was so people in the back could see him better. I love that he cared about the people in the back as much as those in the front getting a great show. Great Reaction, Mr. and Mrs. Coach!! Yes, Queen II is uh-MAZE-ing. It's hard and fast. And oh, so proggy. Love it!
altho this white outfit & vest (along with a black one with spines up the back) was a Wendy de Smet (Wendy Edmonds) collab w/Freddie.
Freddie also took a fashion design course before he transferred to graphic design during his art college days. He actually designed clothes at the time, his mom proudly displayed one of his t-shirts she still had (Fun fact" he also posed nude to his art class to make money to eat)..Never a dull moment with Freddie❤
@@susanp.7954 his mom also said in an interview that one time he took one of their table clothes without telling her to use to make a coat. He would eventually give that coat to his sister Kashmira haha
Que buen disco Queen 2,Unos de mi discos favoritos! No me canso de escucharlo.💪🤘
💪🤘
Thanks for playing & reacting to one of my absolute favorites... Freddie wrote several fairytale stories back in the day for his sister..Their fantasyland... This one he wrote early on his guitar and it evolved into magic!... They were experimenting with harmonies, layering, different sounds, etc..which made them one of the greatest tight bands ever. I LOVE both guitars on this one, and Roger's drums are absolutely powerful..The screams in the middle are Freddie and Roger later on in the song....Queen eventually changed into more of a commercial pop band later on, but I think it was from the pressure of publishers, producers, record co., etc...to be more radio friendly.... But I LOVE these younger days of Queen..Thanks again for your reaction❤
They definitely rocked hard in the 70s.
OMG! Love this performance & Ogre Battle is a banger!! On the album, it’s part of a 3-song trilogy 👉 OGRE BATTLE/FAIRY FELLERS MASTERSTROKE/NEVERMORE (one of the most beautiful songs ever). Thanks you two, love your channel. 💙🩵🩶
Thank you so much!
This is your brain on Queen! 🤯
LOL...that's fantastic!
You guys should try to react to the Seaside Rendezvous. I'm from Brazil and a big fan of Queen.
I always come to watch your reactions to Queen's songs
We appreciate you!
Seaside Rendezvous is lots of fun!
Hello Mr & Mrs Coach. Thank you fir another great Queen reaction. The music was fantastic even if the lyrics were hard to get.
The instruments sure am fantastic (lol) - no wonder Queen had a dedicated fan base even then. They were one of a kind.
LOL...they are indeed.
this is one of my favorite queen songs which i got to see them play live!!!
“Ogre Battle” is one of Queen’s many fantasy vignettes that appeared on their earlier albums, and is the first track on Side Black of Queen II. The song opens with the outro played in reverse, which eventually evolves into the song’s signature guitar riff. It’s one of the band’s heaviest tracks, and was a staple in the live shows for several years.
Queen has also stated that if they had released a second single from Queen II, it would’ve been either “Ogre Battle” or ‘The Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke", respectively.
Interestingly, a series of Japanese role-playing strategy video games share a name with the track- “Ogre Battle”, (or オウガバトル Ōga Batoru). Later installments of the same series include titles that reference other Queen songs, such as “Ogre Battle: The March Of The Black Queen", and “Ogre Battle: Let Us Cling Together".
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Hi folks! Boy, that was a time. They came on like a freight train and this was on their *second* album. They were legit heavy metal decades before anybody noticed. (BTW Mrs. Coach, if you feel like a "Flash Gordon" moment here, imagine how you'll feel when you get to the actual "Flash Gordon" album. Oh yes, it's delightfully weird.) This show was hallowed to us Queen fans, and happily/unhappily got some of our parents on board as well. Much like my Pop's fave movies, Queen "blew 'stuff' up." They always put on a helluva show regardless of material, but that Queen II album was legendary. The first side, all soft and Doc, the second side all lightning and fire and thunder. Man, what an album. (Not to mention the inner art-the "white" version of the "Bohemian Rhapsody" shot.) Love you guys!
Great comment as always. Very cool story as well. Good to see you!
I love John's bass on this one! He pounds away, along with Roger, to create the foundation for Brian and Freddie...
And as you say... the costumes... very seventies.
Thank you for going back in time for this one. Not a complaint but this song needs to be heard in its studio form. As with most of the Queen 2 album. Cheers!
A bit of heavy Queen love 70s Queen.Mr Coach should like this.
Early Queen 🤘❤️
That double-time section was explosive (literally!). The song ended with Roger hitting the gong, but unfortunately the cameras didn't catch him.
I agree the lyrics aren't their strongest point, but the music's powerful. Mercury wrote it on guitar and he used to play it really quickly, but of course he relinquished those duties to Brian so they could have the best possible sound both on stage and in the studio.
Oh, that's cool that Freddie wrote it on guitar and played it.
@@CoachCastTV On 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love', he did play (acoustic rhythm) on the record, because Brian was off-site and they were in a bit of a rush to get it done.
'Liar' and 'Ogre Battle' were both written on guitar, before he could afford his own piano. That's why they're a bit on the heavy side.
Very cool. Saw him playing some guitar at Live Aid.
So, a small interesting fact, Freddie actually wrote this on an acoustic guitar, and even Brian May himself has said he was a little surprised that such a heavy song was born in such a way, Especially from Freddie. (I can't remember his exact wording).
That's pretty cool.
The difference between 70's Queen and 80's is vastly different. But I gotta admit love me some 70's Queen. There was nothing like them, then towards the 80's they seemed to get more radio friendly. Which is not a bad thing but a shock to fans that were used to the heavier side. Thanks for going back and reliving this concert which is absolute fire.
Definitely a difference in those eras, but both done well.
Almost every band or artist that was big in the 70s changed their sound in the 80s. Just consider Genesis, Rush, Black Sabbath, Yes, Judas Priest and many others, Almost all took on the more polished 80s sound.
@@user-qb1sm3rk9r Very true. We even commented on that on Black Sabbath reactions how they changed in the 80s.
Great video Queen rocks 💜
Thanks for your reaction the whole concert is amazing ! I love Freddie's outfit referring to the Messenger of the Gods. You might like "Great King Rat" which is a powerful composition with a great guitar solo and as you appreciate Roger's high vocals you should listen to "My Fairy King" which is about a fantasy world created by Freddie and his sister Kashmira.
Thanks for the suggestions!
They were at their best in the 1970s, but they didn't earn much so they had to be more commercial.
Very nice reactions from you👍
Thank you. Yes, we can see the difference in 70s vs 80s for their music, but it's all well done.
Love 70’s Queen my favourite era ❤❤ Freddie’s costume is based on the winged God Mercury xx the seventies were a great time especially for music I was in my teens then 😂😂
Loved your reaction perfect description lol
Thanks 😅
Queen were making ogres cool 17 years before Shrek. I play guitar and the riff to this one is a lot fun to play with lots of reverb and delay on.
🤣 Queen fans ate great. Shrek!
So true
As far as I know this song came out in 1974 and Shrek came out in 2001, so it's 27 years.
@@PawelGuzkow Sorry, at my age the decades all seem to blend into each other ;(
@@user-qb1sm3rk9r it's okay
Wow, the difference between 70s Queen and 80s Queen! Some Queen fans love/prefer one, and some fans the other… They’re so DIFFERENT.
Yes they are!
Mrs Coach is always right - she just lets you think you are...
🤣
Queen live is great but you are missing the trademarks of the band in the 1970's: multitracking vocals and guitars, amazing harmonies and the legendary Deacy Amp sound.
Songs you reacted before like White Queen and Father to Son are completely different in the studio recording.
💯
Excellent choice and reaction! Odeon Hammersmith '75 and the rainbow are among their best early concerts. Right from the get-go they were destined for greatness! On their mountain of a catalogue, Queen's fantasy/mythology based songs are definitely among my (many) favorites! If you haven't heard them yet, I highly recommend "my fairy king", "the fairy-feller's masterstroke", "march of the black queen", and seven seas of rye (live at the rainbow) ruclips.net/video/Uo9oZ3NnyYw/видео.html
One of Freddies
He wrote it on guitar
Coach too young in the 70's wow I feel really old. I was 20 in 1975. Anyway Queen always rocks!!
Haha...yeah I was still not even a teen when the 80s started.
Coach and mrs coach-have you yet reacted to Queen’s spread your wings? It is a hidden gem by john deacon. I like the live version from the Live Killers album; but the studio version has some really cool, subtle guitar work. Hope you will someday react to it. Peace folks!
and the BBC session from October 77 is fantastic too !
Hey team ‼️another great reaction 💥💥💥what would it take to get Mr coach to dress up like 70’s Freddie for a reaction video 😂😂😂
🤣 I don't know about that, but a Slipknot onesie is still a possibility. (You'd have to watch the Slipknot vids to know what I mean.)
Sounds good😂I’ll look for it‼️
Coaches, I have reacted here before. My nameis Nativ, from IL nice to meet you guys. I have a few things to say. Firstly, I would love it if you do more album songs and or videos by Queen. I feel by listening to some of their shows you cannot really get the actual sense of the song they wrote. The 1978 Live killers show and all their shows from 1985 onwards are masterpieces. but you will never get what they achieved in the studio. You remember for example you heard this great sax ballad "just one year of love?" you can never get this sensation in a show. especially of their older work, that is built with so many vocal parts, subtle recording work on many channels and delicate 20 guitar accompaniment. you miss a lot of the magic by listening to ogre battle live. why don't you for example do the only concept album by queen in a 4-6 part video? it is their second album. you can do the whole albume in like 5 vids and get what story they did. again, I will give you another example. remember Death on 2 legs you did the lyrics vid of? you can never get this intricasy and genious in their live show. listen to this song on live killers, the 2 minute version and you will completly get me. Now, I have many recomendations of Queens studio work to give you. But I do think the scope of your Queen vision will comletly change once you will take the time to listen to some of the songs you already listend to live in an album version.
I will soon write here in the channel the story about Freddie's desease, what is known about it. I am a 33 year Queen fan. Happy to assist. Please do more songs I can listen to. I am much less into those early early Queen shows. Even though I get their significance. I may not pay patrion, but will supportt here, as I do the last few months. Cheers and Halla Madrid.
We appreciate your nice comment. Thank you. We continually get asked to do live versions and of course, we prefer live music as well. We will keep doing a mix to attempt to keep everyone happy when we can. Some like the 70s better, some like the 80s better. We can appreciate it all and it all helps us see how diverse they are as a band. Thanks so much for watching!
@@CoachCastTV first of all you are the bosses of your channel. What I suggest is when you do a live version don't give up on the original. and as I offered, doing Queen 2 in a few videos will be a super trip. it is the only queen concept album.
You probably may prefer listening to the studio version. It's on the album Queen II.
I always use this song whenever I see a question on FB, I.e. what song do you want played at your funeral? What song gives you the most feels? What song do you like to slow dance to? What song makes you drive 120 in a 65?
LOL!
Good morning...
😅 Brian May the original rocket Man
Listen to Jesus, a religious song but a fantastic solo in it.
can I fill up your kpop list up again Kep1er - shooting star released few days ago. Their korean comeback.
Thanks! Yes, we definitely need to do more from them.
Please watch another blackpink video❤😊
I miss u two watching the 4girls please watch blackpink
You can see if Mr. Coach enjoys something or not. As all know I like Roger's stuff best but to do Mr. Coach a favor, he might like Brian May's "Resurrection" 🎸🤫 Some day one day. I'll stick with the Coaches anyway.
😁👍
