    It has long been theorised that ghostly manifestations are the echoes of human souls, whose lives were cut unexpectedly short, forever anchoring them to a fixed place. But what happens when that place is a mobile instrument of war, capable of travelling halfway around the world? This week, we bring you the ghost of UB-65.

    Great story! My dad was in the US Navy and he said he hated the submarines. It was extra pay and better food but, it wasn't worth it. Too cramped, too stressful and too dangerous. Watching this story helped put it into perspective for me.

      I have a friend who was a chief on a sub. He loved it. He hated being on land. He always wanted to be out at sea. The testing you go through to be on one is tough. He told me about . I'm an ex-marine and I wouldn't do it.

    • @Turrican60
      @Turrican60 2 года назад +1

      What "mercy" would that be? Without a shadow of doubt, many millions of people would have prayed for their own lives, or for the lives of those that they deeply loved during the two World Wars. However, it seems that no-one was listening, given the terrible injury toll and countless, agonising, lingering deaths that the people of all nations suffered, including innocent children and mere babies. That being the case, I'd hazard a guess that the crew of UB-65 received not an ounce of preferential treatment. If they had, then I'd want to know WHY.

      I hope he see's this. Listen, i get it. You want to to focus on writing and cut the work load down and let someone professional voice it. I dont like the new one voice guy. ITs to serious. ITs like hes trying very hard to be spooky or set a spisific tone where yours is WAY more natural. We like UR voice not only because its what we know, but it FEELS like ur accually invested in the story ur telling. UR pacing is alot better and ur accsent is perfect and ur read speed is quicker. You focus on delivering the story and it rly shows. We like you more because ur better. I mean no offence to him but ur better. You may think ur not but honestly, who cares. WE like YOU more.If you are 100% committed to sticking to this new narrator guy, tell him to speed up his read speed and tone the spookyness/storymode telling down a bit. We like UR style. Your content is perfectly made to. I mean your the voice of the channel. Its like when konami removed david hayter as the voice of Snake. It was a BAD move. If it works it works but your voice is better and im not the only one that hears it.

    I have a relative who, during his Royal Navy career, served on submarines. He told me that noone was allowed to serve more than two tours (peacetime) because of the nervous stress and other problems caused by the confined conditions. I take his word for that - and he was talking about modern boats, much bigger and better than the first generation of subs. Regarding 'sea monsters', many years ago I found an account of a small RN ship whose crew saw a strange, giant creature blown out of the water by, I think a depth charge they'd dropped on a suspected U-boat. So they used it for target practice....

    You have some of the best content of such channels on RUclips, and I pretty much follow them all. You always seem to find new stories that aren't widely reported on, which I personally greatly appreciate. It gets tiring hearing so many channels repeat the same stories over and over. Really enjoyed this one today too, I find paranormal sea/submarine stories to be terrifyingly fascinating, as the majority of our planet consists of the oceans, and we know so little of them, they may as well be another planet altogether. I could easily see several of these instances being some form of giant unknown sea creature attacking a u-boat. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest to learn if that was what truly happened. Keep up the great work!

    During WWII, at least two German U-boat crews reported pulling alongside rotting sailing ships that were somehow still afloat despite being mostly rotted away, and with billowed sails even though there wasn't any wind. An Australian warship sent a distress call that just said "Flying Dutchman" before disappearing from radar. Fishermen in South Africa today insist that they've seen a similar ship off the southern coast.

    I think I read somewhere that a member of the British Royal family, I don’t remember who but I think he was a prince at the time, was on a ship in the middle of a storm. He recalled in his diary that he spotted what appeared to be a tattered sailing ship. Moments later a crewman fell from the rigging of the ship he was on and died on the deck. He and the crew believed that the prince saw the Flying Dutchman, and that it was an omen of death to man that just fell from the rigging.

    Nicely researched and well told. One minor point. The Royal Navy was a highly modern force, but during the arms race with Germany, it did not scrap its pre-dreadnought tonnage but kept all its older ships in commission to bolster the fleet, thus having in effect two fleets. One very modern and another hopelessly old.

      I heard that UB 85 was captured because of an idiotic mistake, the crew conjured up a crazy story rather than admit the truth. Apparently the cord for an electric heater didn't allow the hatch to seal shut but they needed to submerge upon seeing the enemy. So they flooded and were forced to surrender.

    @Bedtime Stories
    This is an extremely well researched, documented and presented video. I am English, but have been living in Hamburg, Germany - the birthplace of UB 65 and many WW1 & 2 German Navy U-Boats - since my youth. I thought I knew a lot about the German submarine force of the First World War, but these well documented hauntings were unknown to me before now. I do believe that the spirits of people who suffered a tragic death can, and often do, return to the location of their demise, or never leave them at all. Channeled spirits have reportedly said that they do not realise that they have passed on - or that they have unfinished business to conclude before they want to. It is also reported that such spirits of the "unquiet dead" are at times not just ethereal ghostly apparitions, with no or little influence upon the material world, but fully fledged 3D human bodies who can have great influence - positive or negative - upon their surroundings. It is not at all far fetched that the spirit of Leutnant Richter was seen by many crew members - including the captain - of the vessel, to be hanging around the submarine. The sinking of UB65 under highly mysterious circumstances is however truly inexplicable. I do not believe that the sailors were delusional. Regardless of rife superstition, these men were highly trained professionals with good heads on their shoulders, not a bunch of hysterical teenagers. They knew what they saw and honestly reported their otherworldly sightings, regardless of the consequences. The monster sightings are a different cup of tea altogether, but nonetheless not to be merely discarded as seaman's yarn. ❤

  • @filmandfirearms

    There are logical explanations for why the crew might see Richter around the ship. Crew members tend to get very close to each other, so when one of them dies, particularly in such a sudden and violent manner as Richter did, it has quite an impact on the rest of the crew. That, plus the isolation that comes with being on a ship, could cause temporary hallucinations of Richter. There is no logical explanation that I can think of, however, for why Captain Grant would see Richter on the bow. Most likely, he'd never even heard of the man. It certainly wasn't Schelle standing there. Any captain worth his salt does everything in his power to save his ship if she starts to go down, as Krech did. He doesn't just give up

    About 20 years ago I served on a nuclear attack submarine, a flight 1 Los Angeles class boat (that recently went for decommissioning, sadly) and though nobody was aware of anyone ever dying on that sub during it's operational lifetime (it had been going to sea since around 1980) or during it's construction (late 1970's), most all of us nukes in the engine room talked about the "Engine Room Lower Level" ghost. A lot of guys were creeped out and wouldn't even go to ERLL except when they had to, and let me tell you when you are at sea for 3 months and most of the 120 or so men on board don't want to go to the single largest space on the ship, a space that probably represents 1/6 to 1/8 of the total "people space" available inside the hull, they have to be really bugged out. Like constant feeling of being watched, hairs on your neck standing up, seeing shadow movement in the dark and seeing things out of the corner of your eye, feeling like there is something just inches behind you, a sense of constant dread, particularly when in port with the reactor plant shut down.
    Of course we were also a bunch of nukes on a busy warship in the early years of the war on terror so we were basically a bunch of caffeine and ephedrine junkies (back before ephedrine got banned for over the counter drugs and supplements) who never got much sleep, would binge drink whenever we were in port, were more or less perpetually stressed out, would go up to 3 months without seeing sunlight , were mostly spending waking hours in dimly it areas, were usually breathing air that has just a little bit less oxygen content than normal air, and we worked in a place that was all metal, filled with noxious chemicals, and inundated with magnetic fields and electrical fields from all of the machinery, motors, and electrical systems in the engine room so physiologically it explains most of those weird things people felt and saw.

    As allways a perfect short story.
    I belive there was a movie filmed about this U-Boat. I allso belive much of the happenings occured because the Gemans were in the rush to make a new submarine. As you yourself stated, they could feel the Winds of War were changing. Allso a lot of skilled labour was off to fight and die on the fronts, leaving inexperienced builders and shipcrews to fill their place. I'm not saying there weren't any paranormal occurances, but that the mindset of young people is being altered by the circumstances of war, wich made them see things both when they were and weren't there.
    Sidenote: you guys are an incredible team. Both narrators are doing a wonderful job, each with his own style. Keep up the good work.
