You know I am Hmong and we as an community is pretty small but we are spread all over the world from France, Australia and here in the U.S.... And for you to have heard about this and did your research. I applaud you very much. It shows me a lot that before you guys put out a video you make sure everything is accurate and nothing but the truth. I can say this honestly this channel and everyone behind it has my respect and support. Bedtime Stories..... Thank you!
I'm Hmong, I've listen to all of your videos; always very professional and well done. I'm glad you guys did this story. I think this occurred in the 80s, I still vaguely remembered it bc Hmongs were a small community and so things like this gets around. Theories range from allergic reaction to American food to evil spirits. The dab tsog is similar to the old hag lady phenomena or a type of sleep paralysis. And, yes many Hmong converted to Christianity to escape these spiritual hardships/dangers. Oftentimes, westerners romanticize these shamanic beliefs without realizing all the dangers that comes with it.
I highly sympathize with your people, who were swept off by such a terrible tragedy like communism. I am a scholar of History of Christianity and in the past Christians and Hebrews alike believed that heathen gods were demons; nowadays such demons are surfacing again in exorcisms, and I see a spiritual and cultural continuity in this. It's no joke: in our materialistic society spirits look like old-fashioned, but every culture on earth has believed to the existence of good spirits, evil ones and spirits of the dead. In countries where shamanic beliefs are diffused, conversions go hand in hand with exorcisms, as lately the Catholic cardinal of Ulan Bator, Mongolia, declared. And shamanism is dangerous: according to anthropological studies, shamans suffer a lot during their rituals, because they feel coerced and deprived of their own life. Evil spirits exist and they are always the same, even if they revel themselves in different ways according to the local culture; a theological explication - and a very rational one, for what I have seen along the years - is simply the fact that they exist, and act, as the Bible says. In the Bible they are considered able to manage whatever is atmospherical - and electricity falls into this category. No surprise that, in every place where an infestation occurs, electrical tools misfunction, or that these victims died out of a failure of the electrical system connecting the brain and the heart. So, even if it is necessary to go on searching for natural causes behind these deaths on the scientifical side, this side may have some limits and it is very possible that deep trauma facilitated the work of such spirits, as, again, exorcists have experienced, and as I have seen directly. I wish the very best to all the Laotians for a future devoided of fear and full of hope, joy and peace.

“Dab” in Hmong means ghost, and “Tsog” is the name of the figure we call it. I’ve grown up hearing stories of this from my parents and my grandparents and would give me nightmares. Thank you for sharing!
@@arthas640 there just trolls. Dab Tsog is just a presence or spirit laying on you while you're awake and paralyzed. You're just there looking at it which is the most scariest experience anyone could imagine. Even til this day, most of the elders would still warn us of these things. Like spirits, demons, creatures of the night.
Its odd how you explain what the names mean because i have an odd habit of turning certain words back to front so i did it with the title words & got Bad gost - Dab Tsog Then you say the Tsog is ghost Its just a coincidence but a little odd Thank you for explaining though Blessings 👧🇬🇧
The story behind what would become known as the Dab Tsog is originated from Laos or either Thailand ( I forgotten the exact country, but according to what I read and was told, I remember it is after the Hmong took refuge into other countries from the Vietnam War.) Though sleep paralysis is nothing new to the Hmong, the event of it causing someone death was a new phenomenon to the Hmong. The story goes that a widow, by storytelling, had been giving the name Mai. Mai was being pursue by a suitor after her husband death. He made many promises of marrying Mai and promise of loving her as much as her decease husband had. After many days of courting Mai, she finally gave in to the suitor whims, and let him take her in bed. The suitor never kept his promise of marriage and also never return to see her again. Rumor began to spread of Mai affair and she soon was tagged as the village whore. Many males, some from other villages, would come courting Mai, promising to marry her, only to leave and never return once they too had bedded her. Soon Mai became a sex toy, easy target for young men or cheating husband who wants the thrill of easy sex. Pretty soon Mai became pregnant with a child. Due to social norm at that time, many question how Mai became pregnant without a husband. With Mai unable or unwilling to point out the culprit and no male coming forth claiming to be the father of the child, Mai was outcast by the village people. Mai, pregnant and alone, with no one to help her, would suffer many days alone till it was time to give birth. With social pressure of being associated with an outcast and risk being out cast themselves, people can only stood outside and watch Mai struggle to give birth alone. Sadly, Mai who was has suffer many days alone doing required daily chores and in a state of weakness was unable to handle the pain of child-bearing. She and her child would both die in the process. Before Mai last dying breathe, in front of the peering villagers, she would uttered her very last few words, a curse, which would becoming known as the Dab Tsog. Mai last few words: *"Once I die, I will come back for all the males that done me wrong and after all the males of your household, so you will know my pain."* Mai curse would spurred an event that took many male lives, young to old, as they sleep. People, especially males, would become afraid of going to sleep and spent many days staying awake only to be found dead the day after once they had drift to sleep because of tiredness. Shaman, (one that goes into the underworld to bring back a living person spirit or plead deals with the dead for the living), perform many rituals and offering to no success as more males continue to die. But soon a solution was found, (I'm not sure how this came to be, just part of the story as told). The solution was for every household to put in their front door a toy carving of a penis. It would be a substitute or a trick that used to make the ghost think the penis is a real males. The ghost then would rape and supposedly kill the toy penis and leave without even making it way to the real male within the house. During this rare occurrence, many Hmong moved to the United States because of the agreement between General Vang Pao and U.S. for the Hmong involvement in the Vietnam War and that is where this video pick up. *I do not know how much of this story is true nor false. It is pass from mouth to mouth and storytelling from elders during family gathering. You can take this story seriously or with a grain of salt, but at the very least, you now know the origin of this phenomenon that would become known as Dab Tsog, according to this video.* Thanks all for taking a bit of your time to know and learn Hmong folklore.

Asian mythology is the creepiest of all mythologies out there. Compare white mysty ghost in a castle hallway in the west and creepy floating head with a spinal cord and entrails dragged behind in Asia....
Yes, a massive amount of the original pre-Christian mythology of Europe was edited out by the Church, as they were the only ones that could write. In western nations such as my own, Ireland, we hardly even remember our own past beyond the 700s. Asian mythology is still far creepier, if such monsters existed in our folklore, I can see why the Church edited them out.
There were a lot of really wiggy stories about The Fair Folk in pre-Christian Europe that were still believed as superstitions in many places even after the desert faith arrived and replaced the old gods. Consider changelings, for one.
@@MisterBones2910 Indeed, there are many places here where the natives fear to tread for fear of upsetting the Fair Folk. The last remaining markers of a long-gone and mystical era.
Damn, my father used to say that to me whenever we ventured into the mountains. There was a fairy bush near where we frequented. Always felt that stuff was best left alone. Call it instinct or naïvite, but I'd rather not tangle with an irate fairy.
As a person of Hmong decent, I’d like to say thank you for shedding light on this story that the inspiration for the concept of Freddy Krueger came from the Hmong people. We often don’t get recognized for anything, even our part in the Vietnam War. I remember dreading learning about the war very year in history class at school because I already know that the history books doesn’t, if not barely, mentions us. (But that’s American history for ya!) I also realized that you’ve probably never met a Hmong individual before as you’ve mispronounce “Hmong” as “ha-mong” during the whole video Lol! The “H” is silent so it is pronounced as just “Mong.” I cringe every time you said “Ha-mong” lol! But no worries though. Even the “b” in “dab tso” is silent so it’s pronounced “dah-tso.” The last name “Xiong” is hard to explained how it’s pronounced through text but good try. Overall thank you so much for posting this video and mentioning us Hmong. I was worried that you weren’t ever going to say the word “Hmong” and that this would be another incident where we would once again be glossed over like we were in American history. -KV
Ka Va I lived in Western Montana where many Hmong have settled. I volunteered at the farmers market and a lot of Hmong were there as vendors., they are exceptional gardeners!
I learned about them in History class...not to take my experience as an example of all districts but advanced history students were exposed to some level of the Hmong involvement. Also not for nothing but the only movie made about Vietnam made during the war "The Green Berets" put a light on their involvement. I think people just aren't exposed to enough then get this idea that no one cares.
The feeling of a presence in the room while one is sleeping and the pressure felt on the chest sounds a lot like sleep paralysis. I have definitely felt that presence in the room during sleep paralysis and it's horrifying.
Legend has it that when you dab on the haters, you are cursing them to be visited by an evil spirit in their sleep. That's why they call it "dabbing"... it's a slang word abbreviated from "putting the [curse of the] Dab upon them."
Thank you for telling our stories of how we fought for America during the Vietnam war... We were known as the secret solider for America; who was tasked to lead young America in the dense jungle of Vietnam. And, yes, most of these stories of are true. Our culture consist of shamanism ritual, that speak with the dead and ancestors.
Gaming Dude the communist didn’t release any demon. Our people lived in the secluded mountain, we practiced shamanism and do sacrifices to keep demon away. Shaman believed that they can curse people and bring poltergeist to haunt them.
I'm 34, and male with Vietnamese ancestry, that's like one country away from Laos. I think it was the Dab Tsog that went after me when I was around 20 to 21 years old. I remember waking up at night during that time and seeing a shadowy lady watching me, and being unable to move. Passed out first few nights before the last incident, where she was slowly floating towards me. I knew it was do or die and out of nowhere my fear became a burning anger inside my heart, burning outwards filling my whole body with burning rage that burnt away my paralysis. Without thinking I jumped at her right away as the paralysis burnt away, my thoughts only being mad as hell, and then suddenly woke up on the ground where I landed. Haven't had an incident since then, not even recently when I was 33 to 34 years old now.
I can imagine the anxiety of leaving your land, your people and culture under the threat of death is just as if not more scary then a old women sitting on your chest. Life is often scarier then fantasy.
That's is why most of us Hmong people fled to other countries. We help the USA fought their war and some of us paid the ultimate price for that. I lost one of my sister which I never got to know over in laos during the vietnam war and so many other relatives as well. War and violences displace people from their homes. It's sad really.
This is one of my favorite stories. It’s fascinating. The point about them coming to America and not being able to adjust to our unhealthy and toxic lifestyle speaks VOLUMES about American society and health as a whole as well.
@@melvinohoulihanI’m going to take a wild guess, and say they are speaking of how immigrants to the States, struggle with OUR toxicity. They are used to the toxicity of THEIR HOMELAND. The toxicity of one country, is different than another. You are, unfortunately, the one making a MASSIVE assumption regarding the statement OP made.

This channel, which I'm embarrassed to admit, I only discovered a few months ago, is fast becoming my favorite channel. It has a true quality to it. This is what RUclips is meant to be used for. Quality programs made by genuinely talented people, not just anyone with a camera and an opinion. The artwork is awesome, and the unobtrusive subtitles a welcome addition, though the narrator is excellent and speaks very well. Just an awesome collection of talent. Thanks for the hard work and the great stories guys.
this is so disturbing. i've had two episodes of sleep paralysis in my life (about 10 years ago by now) and at those times i saw an emaciated and filthy pale woman stalking me. i was completely unable to move and felt the hatred emerging from her almost physically. i really thought she was going to kill me.. luckily i've never seen her again. what's weird about this is that i'm 100% middle european and also had never heard of a phenomenon like this before.
RS the terror that you experienced was not a "bad dream"! something very similar happened to me also when i was about 20. i am now 71 i do not want to preach but as i slowly began my orientation to God i now confident i am not going to have that trauma again
My own experience of sleep paralysis is different to others. I feel as though I'm trapped in a dream, knowing I have to wake up, but being unable to move
I have a book called A to Z of horror by Clive Barker and it said the story of Nightmare on Elm Street was based on a kid who said someone was trying kill him in his sleep and if he went back to sleep he’d die. The next time he went to sleep he did in fact die. I still have the book. I am curious about this story though.
I've also heard it was inspired by a true story of a man who was mistaken for a pedophile for some reason and got lynched. I don't remember the details. The film and what Freddy looked like etc could have been inspired by a number of different stories though.
On the documentary that came with the Nightmare on Elm street box set Wes talks about the inspiration. I believe this video can also be found on RUclips.
I deeply enjoy your explanation of these events as psychological. I can understand why in an age where sleep paralysis wasn't widely accepted as common, these people would believe and perpetuate the myth of their elders as sleep paralysis being the old hag, thus when they had sleep paralysis they reacted violently and caused their body to shut down. I'm glad you look at these interesting cases and try for logical explanations and reasons from all angles, it makes the videos much more enjoyable than the phonie "paranormal investigators" that are thrown at us. Cheers
I've already heard of most of the stories you cover, but your presentation and the art style used in the drawings make this come as a fresh take. One of my favorite channels.
You guys make comfy stuff. Reminds me of watching stuff like UFO Files as a kid. Even though those kinds of shows are clearly bs an adult you believed everything it said as a kid because it was told like a documentary. Thats how I feel when watching you guys, the mix of research and good storytelling gets you lost in it and you forget about whether its real or a hoax and you just get absorbed in it.
Daniel Southerland yeah this one in Particular is hard to explain. I've had sleep paralysis many times and I've never had problems breathing, nor have I seen a woman.(hallucinations are much weaker/subtle if you're used to it and I've never seen anything more than lights) So regular sleep paralysis is out of the question and it isn't fatal.
Daniel Southerland so it makes you try to ask for help too? I've had it countless times but to me it's like I'm encased in concrete, I always try to call for help but all I can do is make a hissing noise. I only get it when I miss my sleeping meds and manage to fall asleep before I take them. I've had multiple episodes in one night but I still feel either anxiety or anger.
Two nights ago, Friday the 17th, I had my first ever sleep paralysis. I saw something that very very much looked like her. Except she just opened her mouth and let out a weird growl that got louder and louder. Seeing her wasn’t what really scared me, I had a nightmare just before waking up, it was the fact she was gone when I woke up is what made me shoot right up in my bed. I don’t believe in supernatural and still don’t, but the fact I found this just a few days after. I’ve heard of banshees and that. But never the this, and THAT is the face I saw.
I have had this happen to me twice and almost happened a 3rd time. The 2nd time it happened I declared in my brain “Jesus is Lord” over and over again and the feeling past. When the 3rd time was about to occur, I could feel pressure build in my chest, and so I began to sternly speak in my mind “Jesus IS Lord.” And the pressure fell away again allowing me to sleep. But not without a prayer and a thank you to Him.
I had sleep paralysis once. I didn't see anything once I opened my eyes. But I saw a strange woman intruding in my dream before waking up from being disturbed by her appearance. She was young so not a hag but she seemed dead pale and also bruised. The thing is how she entered the dream. She wasn't part of the dream world, she kinda floated in front of me inside the dream and didn't seem to be affected by my movements in the world, kinda like she was overlaid in the dream world. A spooky but fun experience. Thankfully it was day when I woke up.
This also afflicts Vietnamese refugees in the US. I remember hearing about a former VC soldier in the Vietnam war who encountered what he described as a cat spirit in the jungle, which attached itself to him. He told friends and family that it haunted him for the rest of his life, in the US as well. 10 years later, he died in his sleep. He was only 30.
@Scitronaunt well then, I might be screwed, because I own two black cats who are in and out of my room all night. But I also have an orange cat, so that should balance it out, right?
@Scitronaunt Very interesting. My cats are certainly not bad omens, but perhaps it has more to do with wild cats. Or manifestations, like the Grim. Or Grimm? I don't know, it's a large black dog that's said to be an omen of death.
@@GalaxiaStars I don't know exactly. But in most of these cases, it is diagnosed as an idiopathic (no definable cause) heart attack, if any factor can be determined at all.
Im hmong Im suprise someone actually know about our culutre. One time I remember seeing this Dab Tsog in my dream I escaped some how & It never came back usually when this happens to hmong people is all in their head but not in thailand. My parents was from thailand they say their is a demon in thailand killing all of these people while they are asleep to this day is still happening in thailand no one knows why but we hmong people believe ghost & demons is just in our nature for some reason.

Sounds like PTSD induced sleep paralysis, which caused such severe panic the heart gave out.. These people came from war torn hell holes, PTSD is likely.
In my culture this dates back even before the Vietnam war. It's essentially becomes part of our culture folklore. According to some back in the day, you could die and not even have any symptoms of ptsd. It's definitely weird and sad really.
I appreciate how you put the text for people to read along. I know that takes extra effort. Great video as always. I remember hearing about the Dab Tsog from some friends in the 90s. But I never got much info on the nature/lore of said thing out of them.
Oh man I'm hmong it's pronounced "dah chaw", i read that this is common within southeast Asians and their genetic disposition to sleep paralysis that causes this experience! Been a big fan of this channel surprised and amazed you covered this! Love it!
I recently found your channel, and subscribed. I love how you read. Your pronunciations of hard to read names of people, places, and things are superb. Love to listen to the great stories, and all of the artwork is all easy on the eyes in black, and white. Can't wait for the next notification. Thank you for your hard work, and GREAT voice. Thanks to the artist for their GREAT work.
Interesting video, it could be a combination of, unhealthy living conditions/lifestyles, PTSD/survivor guilt and mass hysteria, the very knowledge of knowing about it worked Hmong men up to the point the were staying awake for a week straight (two weeks without sleep can kill) which weakened their nervous system and they convinced themselves that the Dab Tsog was after them, essentially causing their own deaths
In my hmong culture, this stuff happens on a daily basis especially in thailand, laos and other parts of asia. Even before the vietnam war, not anything is related to ptsd. These things are part of my culture such as ghost, spirits and demons. Sort like native american, we have shamans to help deal with this sort of thing. Even a healthy person would die and be taken according to our folklore. Much like western folklores.

Awesome video as usual, please keep up with the per week schedule u guys are on. I think I speak for all of your fans when I say we appreciate everything about your channel. Writing is perfect, narration excellent, and I love taking the real pictures and turning them into black and white drawings, just a great mix all around. As far as this case goes, if it was completely a medical thing, wouldn’t we have seen more situations like this since? There’s still plenty of people coming to this country from war torn nations, dealing with similar things these people dealt with. I guess it could have just been the perfect storm with the types of pollution they were breathing in and all that, it just seems like if that was truly the case, as said above we’d have heard of more situations like this.
Koschei the deathless would be cool. Always interested to see the different types of the story. Personally folklore and myths are second only to unsolvable mysteries. Aka this RUclips channel is amazing for me. Thanks :)
Fun fact: The english word nightmare derives from the scandinavian name for the Night Hag, in swedish she's called "Nattmara" - Natt = Night, and Mara = Mare (old swedish for Hag, not to be confused with the female horse). Further trivia: The modern swedish word for Nightmare is "Mardröm" - directly translated it means Hag-dream
If you dont know what sleep paralysis is I can imagin it being quite tarrafying. I had it once and it left me shaken for a good hour or two. Im in good health not vary superstitious and know what it is. I can easly imagin the shere terror cousing someone with worse health and no understanding of whats happening to have a heart attack.
True, but still. How did it only target men? Maybe since in American culture back in those times where men were working and women stayed at home. Maybe the added stress of working at a new job in a new culture where you are not welcomed could have cause additional depression and stress for these men.
Great episode! One small quibble - I grew up in a community with a pretty sizable Hmong population in Wisconsin. Anyway, at least locally, the H in Hmong is silent and the ethnonym is pronounced "Mung"
reminds me when i get sleep paralysis, the first few times i felt that i needed control and resisting it birthed fear which lead to malevolent hallucinations. i learned that you need to accept your fate, that you cannot move and for you to find peace in this. by your calm nature, hallucinations dont present themselves
3:58 "and the second was the unshakable insistence of the man's wife that he had been killed in his sleep by a vengeful spirit, one that had pursued him halfway across the globe." Damn, that's one dedicated spirit.
GLORIOUSLY ghoulish, dahlings! But seriously, I would love to hear you cover: the Amherst Mystery, the Dalby Poltergeist or the alien abduction cases of Travis Walton or Betty and Barney Hill. The mystery of the missing guy from Manic Street Preachers might be good too....
I wish my 1 episode of sleep paralysis as a kid was more like this. I thought a demon was on my chest tearing flesh away with long claws. I could've sworn I felt every swipe, quickly shredded down to nothing. Right as I "died", I suddenly snapped out of it and yelled HELP the instant I did. That was when I realized I had been trying to scream the entire time but couldn't. Was too busy having my chest hollowed out to notice the other oddities. Nobody even heard my scream, idk if that's a good thing or a bad thing. I'd like to think my parents would wake up if I was screaming for help but I guess not. Haven't had sleep paralysis since, at least as far as I know. I did wake up once to the feeling of being surrounded on both sides of the bed by shadowy beings tormenting me to the point of nausea for their own enjoyment, but I was able to move during that. I tossed and turned while fully believing I was being harrassed by beings hovering over me. I thought they were the ones making me nauseous and unable to sleep. Wasn't a dream, but also wasn't sleep paralysis I think.
I've had it three times. the only times its happened is when I sleep on my back for some reason. also if you try to fight it and move it will only make it worse. when it happens to me the first few times I panicked and I felt like my heart was going to explode. it was pounding. it wasn't until I focused on taking slow deep breaths and relaxing that it goes away almost instantly. so if it happens to you just try and breath and relax.
In Ireland we have the Banshee, those who hear her cry, will lose someone close to them. The Banshees presence foretells death. Many of my neighbours have claimed to have heard it, one woman even awoke us in the night with her two young children and was genuinely terrified, she said she heard the Banshee. Less than two years later that poor woman died of cancer. Another neighbour said she heard the Banshee and told me about it, a few months later her young son died at the age of seven from leukaemia, these two cases occurred in 1994. There are strange things happening that no rational mind can explain. As always brilliant video guys, I'm addicted to your channel. The best on RUclips in my opinion.
What i like about this is that most of the monsters and/or creatures appear in other nations folklore. Like that every country ghas its own monster, that actually appears somewhere else, but with different name.
That is a creepy story. I wonder if Ju-On, The Grudge was also inspired by these horrific events. There is nothing more fascinating or terrifying than folklore .

I remember somewhere that Wes Craven once said he got Freddy Krueger idea from seeing a strange figure outside of his bedroom window one night as a child, looking at him with scar face and hat then young Wes put bed covers over him that night scared.
Good to see a literate retelling of this story. Thanks to the courageous Hmong people, who stood, and often died, beside our American soldiers when others turned their backs, in a country not their own. I was in high school when I read what Robin Moore had to say about the Hmong in "The Green Berets" I couldn't understand how they were able to march or fight, with the big balls it took just for them to survive, in Laos, in Vietnam, and then in the utterly different world here in the United States. In those who were paying any attention at all, it made tears. And it should not be forgotten.
I’m Kinh Vietnamese and this has happened to me multiple times over my life. My hypothesis is that it attacks when you are mentally and spiritually weak.
I agree too. Also you noticed it tracks from father to sons? My grandpa has it, so does my dad. My brothers have it, but I have it less. When my sister went to college apprantly it can be spread like some sort of pheromone and attacks all the boys at the dorm? Maybe from one guy sleeping in some other guy's spot to avoid the being he spreads it to his friends. My first experience was from my older brother sleeping in my bedroom after his divorce.
Fa Vang oddly enough I’ve talked to Asians of other ethnicities and it seems to happen to them as well. Also I know this is stupid but I found that sleeping under the covers it doesn’t happen. I’m not one to give into mysticism and I hope there’s something scientific going on, but I can’t quite say for sure. Maybe the power of suggestion?
Fa Vang also my sleep paralysis demon is a woman in white that looks very similar to the grudge, have any of your family members described what theirs looks like?
@@lufsolitaire5351 ah yea if it looks like the grudge it's a "Poj Ntxoog", could be "Old Hag syndrome" as well. The old people like my dad and grandfather they do a folk spell with a sword/knife and put it under the pillow like the Filipinos, when times of stress when they are under they grab the sword. Of course it's a dream but the threat of the sword/knife keeps the entity at bay. I heard of people waving the scabbard sword in the air in their sleep paralysis to just merely reaching out and touching the sword breaks the "spell". I've heard of people beating it and it coming back stronger sorta like the "Bruce Lee" thing as well.
Fa Vang I also sleep with my pocket knife during these times. It’s odd, it seems that anything you fall asleep clutching is taken with you can be utilized as you mentioned. My personal theory is that it’s the manifestation of depression and guilt which is also what the video maker himself said as well. I’ve actually had and heard of stories where the afflicted breaks free and had dreams of actually turning the tables on it, such as ending the dream being the one chocking it out.
This is such an amazing channel. Creepy and educational, rational and incredibly detailed. I’m seriously wondering does someone do these incredibly detailed illustrations one-off for each video? Because they must take an insane amount of time. Keep up the amazing work.

I remember when I was in college I saw this entity on my sleep (i didn't know its name on my country until I saw this) the description and how it attacks was fit from what I experienced and how she put her face few inches away on your face was the scariest part. After that incident I left my dorm.

What do you mean by your last sentence? Not trolling…genuinely curious.
An allergic reaction that fries nerve endings and only affects men. Okay lol
most definitely

Mai last few words: *"Once I die, I will come back for all the males that done me wrong and after all the males of your household, so you will know my pain."*
Mai curse would spurred an event that took many male lives, young to old, as they sleep.
You can take this story seriously or with a grain of salt, but at the very least, you now know the origin of this phenomenon that would become known as Dab Tsog, according to this video.*
Thanks all for taking a bit of your time to know and learn Hmong folklore.
Interesting tale. Can't blame her for being so hateful towards males after all the shit she endured.
Very good revenge.
Wow! Good retelling. Thank you
So if a dummy penis is able to ward off an evil malevolent spirit, imagine what a vibrating one could do

(But that’s American history for ya!)
I also realized that you’ve probably never met a Hmong individual before as you’ve mispronounce “Hmong” as “ha-mong” during the whole video Lol!

I deeply enjoy your explanation of these events as psychological. Robert Holland yes the legitimacy is almost irrelevant compared to the story itself.
Daniel Southerland I wasn’t speaking about this case specifically, just about the show in general.

I just listen to these on the bus or at night but for the hearing impaired or let's say someone who is not a native English person it really helps. I also appreciate the art. I just discovered your channel and listened to the Welsh suicides. Best wishes. Jill in Nashville, Tennessee USA
This phenomena happens to a lot of people, not just one particular group. Always enjoy the stories and the artwork regardless.
I saw one when i was twelve...Seattle Wa about 1976. Old white haired hag sitting on my chest. I was paralyzed and couldn't move or breathe. It stopped after a bit i thought it was someone's dead grandma. White female and had never heard of sleep paralysis
Ever
Great video as always. I remember hearing about the Dab Tsog from some friends in the 90s. But I never got much info on the nature/lore of said thing out of them.
Link to early release.
KillaCali Patrons get the video early I believe!
Oh man I'm hmong it's pronounced "dah chaw", i read that this is common within southeast Asians and their genetic disposition to sleep paralysis that causes this experience! Been a big fan of this channel surprised and amazed you covered this! Love it!
Quality of the artwork seems to have improved majorly, my favourite channel on RUclips right now.
Seeing you guys upload is the pinnacle of Sunday’s! Best channel on RUclips, keep up the good work!
Love, love your channel...amazing stories, original content, great illustrations and brilliant storyteller. Congratulations x
PTSD was my thought also.
Yeah, poor sleep either due to overwork or depression can often cause sleep paralysis.
@Arwen Luna No, the men in this video stayed up for up to a week straight using caffeine and narcotics and had other problems on top of that
In my hmong culture, this stuff happens on a daily basis especially in thailand, laos and other parts of asia. Even before the vietnam war, not anything is related to ptsd. These things are part of my culture such as ghost, spirits and demons. Sort like native american, we have shamans to help deal with this sort of thing. Even a healthy person would die and be taken according to our folklore. Much like western folklores.
Zeruel3 no you don't get it. You've never stepped foot in that world yet. Because when you do it's a very dark world.
If you don't believe it. Try it for yourself. You'll see what it is.
The artwork was particularly terrifying this episode. Great job guys. Always look forward to getting comfy in bed with a new episode.
I'm so proud to have been your 117th subscriber and your 3rd patreon you guys have had. Perfect video to watch while recovering in the hospital. Thank you guys for such a great episode!
Much respect my friend! And thank you for sticking with us for so long :-)
Found an OG!
Excellent rendition of the Dab Tsog
What do you guys do for art? How many people work on the scenes you have in the stories. And what made you choose this unique style? (by the way, I am beyond ecstatic that you guys are adding animation and more and more detail, keep it up!)
4 people in total, 1 does the art
@@zhbvenkhoReload damn, this artist needs a raise.
The drawing in the woods, with the moonlight shining through the trees, was beautiful.
I have seen this thing!! Seeing this illustration gave me major chills. It was floating over my face it has holes for a mouth and eyes and it’s body was not human
Hey guys, not sure if u heard about the alien landing in Australia that happened in the 90s I think, it occurred near a primary school and was witnessed by all the kids and teachers. The mystery was that 2 girls ran to the craft alone but only 1 went all the way and wen her friend caught up to her she was unconscious, the unconscious girls name was Tanya and her friends name Jaquie, they were BEST friends so naturally Jaquie went to Tanyas home the next day but to her surprise an English woman answered the door and told Jaquie that she is mistaken and that a Tanya never lived there at all... Pls research further and cover this story, u will c exactly y it's right up this channels ally as u dive deeper into this rabbit hole... I trust u will do this story justice with ur unique and in depth way of telling these stories. Ur welcome and THANK YOU in advance
Spud Matix i've heard the story of the craft landing down in the middle of a school yard while the kids were out, which allowed a bunch of them and their teachers to witness it. but i have never heard the story of the 2 girls and the creepiness that followed that. i would definitely be interested in seeing that story told on this channel!
Westall 66 is the most famous case but that happened in 1966. There still remains evidence in the trees (they're all messed up, growing weirdly) in the area it apparently landed.
theyve covered that one already
@@jamesdavis3528 trust me, I've watched ALL the videos on this channel, this particular story hasn't been covered bro, if it was then pls gimme the name of the video, thanks
james davis I think this is the Mandela effect at its finest. I searched the channel to give this person the link and I can’t find the video! I swear I watched it too! Maybe RUclips took it down?
Anyways I swear I saw it too!
Art work is outstanding, as always!!! And super good stories!! Thankx! Ur voice is absolutely the greatest for these stories! Plz don't ever stop!!
I love this channel so much! The amount of research you do shows, the art is exquisite, and the story telling carries the listener away for a bit. Keep up the good work. 💙💙💙
I'm incredibly thankful for this episode. I live in Minnesota. Our Hmong community is large and active, it's not so easy being new in the midwest. Yah? So I am glad to find them and their history on the net. Not lost. ♡ive
Beautiful timing :)
By far the best on Utube for bedtime stories and narration.
1:14 I'm scared already 😨😵.
Oooh, animation.
6:56 Hell no, I'm not sleeping tonight.
Wooo new video!
Awesome to see the Hmong people being explored with our beliefs. Hopefully in the future we can have stories that will explore experiences our shamans go through and other monsters/demons we believe in.
Absolutely horrifying artwork, good job!
Can we give this lovely narrator a hand for his oh so eloquent and respectful words. Bedtime Stories is by far the most classy horror infused storytelling channel there is on yt.
Thanks airing the Outstanding vid.Your endeavors are unmatched.Bliss
Koschei the deathless would be cool. Always interested to see the different types of the story. Personally folklore and myths are second only to unsolvable mysteries. Aka this RUclips channel is amazing for me. Thanks :)
Fun fact:
The english word nightmare derives from the scandinavian name for the Night Hag, in swedish she's called "Nattmara" - Natt = Night, and Mara = Mare (old swedish for Hag, not to be confused with the female horse).
Further trivia:
The modern swedish word for Nightmare is "Mardröm" - directly translated it means Hag-dream
Most likely a mix of ptsd and sleep paralysis resulting in some kind of a heart attack
That's what I think.
Your probly right. I had a visit from the night hag/sleep paralysis once and it was truly terrifying, I can see how it could cause a heart attack.
especially the first one
If you dont know what sleep paralysis is I can imagin it being quite tarrafying. I had it once and it left me shaken for a good hour or two. Im in good health not vary superstitious and know what it is. I can easly imagin the shere terror cousing someone with worse health and no understanding of whats happening to have a heart attack.
True, but still. How did it only target men? Maybe since in American culture back in those times where men were working and women stayed at home. Maybe the added stress of working at a new job in a new culture where you are not welcomed could have cause additional depression and stress for these men.
The artist is truely remarkable! Excellent stories man! Keep up the top job!
Great episode! One small quibble -
I grew up in a community with a pretty sizable Hmong population in Wisconsin.
Finally this story is covered by someone, well done boys!!!
This story by far has been one of the most interesting if not the best bed time addition.
3:58 "and the second was the unshakable insistence of the man's wife that he had been killed in his sleep by a vengeful spirit, one that had pursued him halfway across the globe."
Damn, that's one dedicated spirit.
Ty for all the recent uploads
I'm Hmong and this is really cool to see you cover monsters in our culture!
Pretty interesting, sleep paralysis is a hell of a thing
The artistry is amazing.such talent ive not seen
Thank you Bedtime Stories!
That is a creepy story. I wonder if Ju-On, The Grudge was also inspired by these horrific events. There is nothing more fascinating or terrifying than folklore .
6:50 well if that isn't the most terrifying thing i've heard of my entire life it's nice to see you this fine night
I'm so happy to see you guys have ten times the subs you had when I first subscribed to you 7 short months ago. You have such a unique channel and my gf and I are always excited to see a new upload!
"They were all middle aged - 33 to 34 years old" Dang, that one got me right in the feels, haha
The quality of your videos... Absolutely amazing
I remember somewhere that Wes Craven once said he got Freddy Krueger idea from seeing a strange figure outside of his bedroom window one night as a child, looking at him with scar face and hat then young Wes put bed covers over him that night scared.
That's where he got the look and threatening attitude of Freddy, but him being a dream monster came from these incidents in California.
What a brilliant take on this story! Great job, I really love your perspective!
Liked, then watched!
This is such an amazing channel. Creepy and educational, rational and incredibly detailed.
I’m seriously wondering does someone do these incredibly detailed illustrations one-off for each video? Because they must take an insane amount of time.
Keep up the amazing work.
*this is a lovely channel., unique and enjoyable on several levels - the narration, the story selection and the unusual and darkly fascinating illustrations!!! Thank you for sharing these with us all.*
This channel will be big. Amazing storyteller, well research and the overall feel makes you feel thrilled and curuous at the same time.
I remember when I was in college I saw this entity on my sleep (i didn't know its name on my country until I saw this) the description and how it attacks was fit from what I experienced and how she put her face few inches away on your face was the scariest part. After that incident I left my dorm.
Its called sleep paralysis. Strange that he didn't mention that
