My situation…I’m a really poor player. I went into my local golf shop to buy the Mini Driver. The golf pro had me hit 8diff drivers I was surprised how much better the ball flight was than my current 10yr old driver. After all of the adjustments he did I walked out with the Qi10 Max. It was more consistent to help my horrible swing. I’m very pleased
James I think it is a little of Times Repeating..Learnt to play in the late 70’s early 80’s with my Granddads wood woods and blade irons ..Had a 2 and 4 wood, as Nan always said “Only Pro’s Hit Drivers and 3 woods..Probably applies Today ..Cheers James
I actually tried a driver shaft in a strong paradym 3wood and created my on minidriver. It’s actually working great thru 5 rounds. It saved me some money over buying the new brnr.
Played my first round the other day with the BRNR Mini, and all I can say is WOW this Driver is Phenomenal, I purchased the 11.5 positioned the heavyweight forward and Boom, it looks and feels incredible, so easy to hit, I hit every required fairway with no loss in distance this thing is a weapon couldn’t be happier
@@theythinkimmadyouknow I originally wasn’t but after playing a round with it and setting it up as I do, with potential to drop it down to 9.5 as well I think I will, it’s probably the best feeling club I’ve ever hit, you feel like you can’t miss with it, if you get one you won’t regret it trust me 👍
I have the mini driver anybody that struggles with a drive I highly recommend getting the mini driver! Best purchase if you want to go with a driver go with the ping SFT.
I tried the mini driver and it's fantastic; however, it only really shined for me as a potential driver replacement with the adjustment sleeve turned down to 9.5*. With it set at 9.5*, I was only a few yards behind my normal PXG Black Ops Tour driver but I was all but guaranteed to be in the fairway. It really was that good.
Had the mini driver for a bit now. I'll always pull out the driver first. If I find that on the first few holes I can't hit driver well, I'll use the mini driver. Very consistent with the mini, absolutely love it.
Fascinating stuff comparing how combinations of different clubs can give similar results. Shorter drive, longer club next shot. Longer drive, shorter club next shot. Then evaluate frequency of hitting your target where you wanted to go. Keep the ball in play with each subsequent shot with best chance for success. Combination of course management plus club combination, selection and how and in what orders you string them together.
Got fitted. The Mini driver was great, but maxed out. I was hitting the Qi10 same distance just, but there was definitely more in it still. So we discussed it and ordered a Qi10 with the shorter shaft. I hope it pans out.
When I’ve tried mini drivers in the past, I find that they pretty much mirror the performance of my driver. If I am hitting the driver “straight” that day, the mini driver will go also go “straight” thought it will be 15 to 25 yards shorter. If I am hitting the driver all over the planet, the mini driver will also go all over the planet also about 15 to 25 yards shorter. I’ve never found the “magic wand” mini driver where the driver will be all over the planet, but the mini driver will just be “straight” down the middle! Would love to see a test where you give this to a high handicap who is struggling with their driver accuracy and see if they can hit the mini driver consistently down the fairway.
I have the first mini driver the sldr, when my driver goes bad I use my mini driver. When it is in the bag I take the driver out so that I am not tempted to hit it. My scores are usually 2 strokes lower with the mini because it is a fairway finder.
I have a mini driver in 13.5 with a regular shaft. I think I need to do an 11.5 with a stiff. The problem is no place has any available to test so you have to buy and try and return if it doesn’t work out. It’s frustrating.
I like to run both the driver and the mini driver , then the 3HL/4wood ,22 degree hybrid , nice options at the top of the bag , driver down wind , mini into the wind and narrow holes.
I just purchased the TM Mini Driver as a strong 3 wood. This club is not a replacement for my driver at 9 degrees. Mini Driver is 13.5 and 5 wood at 19 degrees. The mini driver is a weapon out off the tee. And also works great off the fairway or out of the first cut.
I have the QI10 Max and the 2024 Mini Driver (11.5 degree version) My miss is a slice and the QI10 max is pretty bullet proof in solving that. I use the BRNR off the tee on tighter fairways and off the deck it is an absolute rocket! Its probably overkill having both but when i saw the new BRNR i couldnt resist! I look at the BRNR as a 3 wood on steroids - both are 2 of the best clubs ive ever bought.
I got the first sldr while battling a slice with driver. I then got a driver and struggled, then got the Original one mini and I got to my lowest handicap. Fixed my swing and got a Sim2. I missed out on the 300 series mini and the first brnr release. Just got the copper brnr re release. I played my best golf with a mini driver and went backwards everytime I went to a full driver. Ego is a game killer
Let’s call the mini driver what it is a #2 wood. Its best use would be for a player looking cut out a club by combining the functionality of driver and 3 wood together. However with 14 club bag there is rarely a case you need to combine the too. Maybe in a format where you use 7 clubs or less it’s going to really shine as it allows you to get an extra scoring iron or wedge instead of packing two separate woods
I've got both. got the QI10 Max in a 9'" and then the Brnr in the 11.5" which I can turn to when im not confident or worried it's a narrow fairway, im a high handicapper and enjoying it so far as tee shots on par 4/5 are my weakness at this point.
I’ve been using a Sim Max 3 wood with almost a driver length shaft off the tee recently and it’s honestly been pretty good. I like hitting 3 wood off the tee way more than driver just way more consistent with it. I’d be all in for trying a mini driver they seem electric!
Got mine 2-3 hrs after they released. Been messing with different shafts and lofts, and I think I got it pretty dialed. Probably gonna keep it as my only driver for now, with my 3,5,7 woods
The mini driver is still bigger head wise than what we played in the 80’s and 90’s. Shaft length was around the same. I’ve yet to try the mini driver but plan too soon.
Love to get one of these mini drivers. Yes please do a round with both to see if you score better with one over the other. My stealth 2 plus isn’t behaving at the moment and I’m considering an upgrade.
James why not go mini in the 11.5 loft model? Did you compare numbers between 13.5 and 11.5 ones would love to see that to figure out which one to try buying… wonder if the 11.5 is still manageable off the deck
I look at the mini more as a 3 wood replacement than a driver replacement. I hit very few 3 woods into greens. Mostly hitting it when my driver is trash. So why not go with the mini? 5wood/hybrid/apex uw is more for hitting into greens for me personally. Talked my self into a mini driver that I probably don’t need
At the end of the day the Mini Driver is basically a 2 wood. The deep face on the Mini, like a driver, is (for me) much easier to hit confidently than a 3 wood or even a 5 wood. For me there is room in the bag for both my 10.5* driver and my 13.5* mini. There are situations where you want a tee shot a little shorter than a driver, and some situations where your confidence is low and a fairway wood is just easier to get in play. So I carry both.
Thanks, James. I was fitted into a Qi10 (12-degree with the Speeder shaft-lightweight stiff). I would love to try the Mini Driver, but I don't think it would work for me because of the heavier shaft. Nonetheless, I am still very much in the honeymoon period with the driver. It's a tad longer than my previous gamer but much more consistent with a normal ball flight of a baby fade. I love this comparison. Do that 18-hole comparison.
Just picked up the mini driver, absolutely love it. I only had a range session with it so far but I love the results. I sold my Stealth driver and 3 wood. In my bag I have the mini driver, 5 wood, 3 hybrid, 4 hybrid, 6-Sand wedge (all stealth), hi-toe 58 and Jailbird putter. I have one spot left, do I game 13 or maybe look at a Sim 2 max driver? I just can’t get on with the carbon from the Stealth and I don’t have the money for a Qi10. Thanks.
He's using it because Harbor town at his length off the tee he hits into trouble areas with his Qi10. Mini driver keeps him 25 yards short of that. At least that's what was said.
18 holes test of mini vs normal driver would be good. It would be great to record (even roughly) the distance of each drive with both, then get an average drive length for each. Mini should hit more Fairways but the difference in average distance could actually be close if you factor in any bad mishits with the big driver. Maybe. Obviously main driver will hit the longest one off drives
I did test a mini driver, but sadly, the shop was busy and I didn't get any help with it. I tried the 11.5 and the 13 in both regular and stiff and just couldn't find a swing with any of them to get good launch and spin data. I suspect if anyone in the store could have given me the time to make adjustments to the clubs, I might have been able to figure it out, but it was not to be. I saw the potential, but couldn't get distance numbers that really beat my 3W- again, maybe I would have if I could have gotten it fitted. Sadly, everyone is sold out since TM made so few of these.
The mini-driver is basically an old, old school 2 wood. 13.5 loft with a longer shaft & bigger head & face than a 3 wood. The other driver is designed with a longer shaft where you are supposed to use a bigger arc of a swing & let the shaft do the work for you. James has a very tight restrictive swing so is not getting the max out of the Qi10. He's swinging it like a 3 wood & thus getting 3 wood distance out of it. If the mini was great you'd see it all over the tours but its for people who can't hit a fairway with the lower loft & longer shaft of a normal driver. Phil is using the similar 2 wood from Callaway.
It’s not designed for tour players, they can keep the ball in play at over 330 yards. It’s designed for the amateur players who create too much side spin hence the loft and shaft length
Sorry James but I only use my mini driver from last year, I’ve never been able to hit a normal driver for some reason but my mini is so consistent for me which is strange, but I fancy swapping it for this years

For me, neither. I use it off the tee on shorter par 4’s and holes with tight fairways. I use my driver for longer and more open holes. Off the fairway I use a 17 degree Callaway UW.
My mini arrived… Love it 22 handicapper
According to arccos:
215yds 55%fairways.
Old driver cobra ltdx
220yds 23% fairways
Got one TM mini - 2 weeks in and it’s amazing. Still out driving mates and bullet straight. ❤

They look great James .Will have to wait till they start to appear on 2nd hand market though. Price is king.
You hit the nail on the head james! I love it because I can tee low and not worry about a low strike as its soo good low of the face👍

It's a 2 wood in reality so of course is more accurate than a normal driver.

Yes i be up for seeing and using a mini driver and founding out if it suits me
Both are great clubs. But, I would like to try the mini. James seems to favor it too.
Yes James. You okay the mini have Chris play the QI 10 let see how many fairways each of you hit!
I grew up playing a mini-driver - but we called it a 2 wood.
Lets see you play driver and mini driver to see what would happen.
Id love a vid with a 15-18 handicap guy doing a 18 hole test with driver vs mini driver??? No one else has done that! Would be awesome
I would love to see a video comparing both for a full round
So a slightly shorter, slightly more lofted club is slightly more accurate and slightly less long ……who knew 🤷♂️
The mini-driver is basically an old, old school 2 wood. 13.5 loft with a longer shaft & bigger head & face than a 3 wood. The other driver is designed with a longer shaft where you are supposed to use a bigger arc of a swing & let the shaft do the work for you. It’s not designed for tour players, they can keep the ball in play at over 330 yards. It’s designed for the amateur players who create too much side spin hence the loft and shaft length
James, why did BRNR mini catch fire vs the TM Original One and TM 300 minis? Stigma from previous gen minis?
I’d like to see you compare a mini driver to a 3 wood.
3 wood smaller head & a little more loft generally. All this is is a 2 wood. Nothing revolutionary about it.
I used to hit the old bubble burner off the deck all the time. 🤷♀️

I’d like to see a full match between you and Gaz where one of you uses the mini driver and the other uses the Q10
Sorry James but I only use my mini driver from last year, I’ve never been able to hit a normal driver for some reason but my mini is so consistent for me which is strange, but I fancy swapping it for this years
Yes the Qi10k. Nelly Korda likes it so much that she currently has a Titleist driver in the bag...🤔
Please do the head to head!
Keep last years mini driver in the bag for the days when my LTDx decides that we aren’t friends and it saved me numerous times last year and probably will this year also
I think a "normal" big headed driver with more loft would help a lot of people. 12 to 15 degrees, depending on swing speed. Might not maximize distance, but much easier to keep the ball in play...
Just crank up the loft on the sleeve, that also closes the face which helps if you’re a slicer (like me!)
Would love to see a 18-hole comparison between the two
Have you ever tested the Teton hybrid drivers? I would love to see a video on the 12 degree Teton hybrid driver against the mini driver!
I would like to see a mid handicap do this comparison
Surely it has to be as easy as using a shorter shafted driver.
I wanted to buy a mini driver and went to the Taylormade website to order one. Being a senior I wanted the lightest shaft they offered. They had the shaft listed but the shaft was unavailable until September. I don’t get it!
I have huge issues hitting a shorter driver shaft. Tried the PXG 0211 which comes with a shorter shaft. Have huge problems hitting up on the ball. End up with low shots which means I am at the mercy of the turf.
im so confussed with the mini driver, is the mini driver supossed to replace the driver or the 3 wood?
For me, neither. I use it off the tee on shorter par 4’s and holes with tight fairways. I use my driver for longer and more open holes. Off the fairway I use a 17 degree Callaway UW.
We need some Mid-handicap Mark to do some proper testing with the Mini-Driver...or Foxxy.
I’d replace my 3 wood with it for sure. I could probably get it close to 300
What's in your bag James?
