I am so proud of both of you for recognizing THE SEEKERS, and Judith Durham in particular. Unfortunately, Judith passed away in the summer of 2022. The Seekers were extremely popular in the 1960s. The studio you saw in the video was ABBEY ROAD. The same studio where the Beatles recorded in England. The song I’ll NEVER find another You,” outsold The Beatles when it first came out.

My Mum was a big fan of The Seekers, so we played their song ‘World of our Own’ at her funeral. She died 24 years after Dad and was going to be with him. I do have a bit of a soft spot for The Seekers. Judith Durham has an amazing voice.

So pleased you loved that! The Seekers have been around since the early 60s and were our first big international success (the UK especially loved them). National treasures here in Australia, and Judith's voice has always been fabulous. They've had a tonne of great songs - like this one, Georgie Girl, The Carnival is Over, I am Australian, World of Our Own, Calling Me Home, Shores of Avalon, etc. Oh, another Aussie female voice you should check out is Marcia Hines (she was born in the US but she moved here at the beginning of the 70s and stayed, and has been ours ever since) - she's had some great hits like: You, Shining, I Just Don't Know What to do With Myself, I Don't Know How to Love Him, Music is My Life, Your Love Still Brings Me to My Knees, etc.

In the video from the 60's Judith Durham nearly Drowned Her Male Band Members. Apparently they once Outsold The Beatles. "Georgy Girl" was a Big Hit Internationally. "Morningtown Ride" and "The Carnival Is Over" is also worth checking out. The also did an Incredible cover of The Byrds "Turn, Turn, Turn". As I mentioned in a comment from Your Reaction to John Farnham's "You're The Voice" which is one of Our Unofficial National Anthems. In the early 90's They Reformed and had a New Hit with "I Am Australian" which you don't need to be an Aussie to Love. Many Aussies want it to become Our Official National Anthem. As far as I'm concerned You're Warm Friendly People like the majority of Aussies. So You two deserve to be Adopted as Honorary Australians. React to The Seekers "I Am Australian" like a couple of American Reactors have and You'll realise what an Honour that is.

I loved this Australian folk band back in the 1960s but sadly they were with us for barely four years before they were gone. They had signed on to perform on a cruise ship in 1964 with the hope of making it big in the UK once the ship docked there. And make it big they certainly did with memorable hits coming in quick succession. Then in 1968 it was all over and we wouldn't see them performing together again until more than twenty years later when they began and had a second life together, with several international tours until this farewell in 2013.

Chrissy Amphlett was Australia's first female rocker.
Chrissy sung with the Aussie group Divinyls
Sadly, she died from breast cancer. When she was diagnosed breast cancer they also gave her the news that she also had MS.
But she was a woman strong in spirit.
Before dying she asked that her music (where relevant) be used to promote breast cancer awareness. Songs such as "I touch myself".
She also kicked an alcohol addiction she had for nearly 20 years.
If you could react to her 'in memory' that would be so lovely.
I think her best song is "Boys in Town".

Although like so many of her contemporary male singers, Jimmy Barnes, John Farnham, The Bee Gees, and AC/DC's the Young brothers, to name a few, she was born overseas but grew up in Australia.
Also despite many international hits she is perhaps best known for her role as "Sandy" in the timeless classic musical "Grease"

You are right! They ARE heartwarming!!
So much from the purely “folk” era like this was. Folk was definitely fading when the came along in the swinging 60s, but there were still some great bands like them.
The style lends itself to opening one’s heart because it is so relaxing. As such, folk can do sooo much from ballads (love gained or lost), to romance, to protest, to comedy. A FINE evening of entertainment!!

back in the late 1960s they held the world record for the most people attending a single act concert at the Sydney Myer music bowl in Melbourne Australia with just over 200,000 (200k) people attending the Australian farewell concert. At the time that attendance ran second to the Woodstock festival which was multiple acts over several days.
They also knocked the Beatles White album off the top of the British pop charts and stopped the Rolling stones from a topping the charts also.
Not bad for an Australian band.

The Seekers were always amazing. They hit the international scene in the 1960's. Georgie Girl is best known because it was the hit song from that movie. Personally my favorite is The Carnival Is Over . It was a 19th century Russian song that Tom Springfield rewrote for them. The original, Stenka Razin, was about a Cossack leaving his lover to go to war, and The Seekers changed it to a lover after a carnival. The song is still in the top 50 largest selling songs in the UK. Judith has the most amazing voice and is best listened to from their early recordings. Because Judith had a very significant solo career, There are many Seekers farewell performances, but somehow they would always get back together again. This is a link to The Carnival Is Over from their UK farewell performance in 1968 ruclips.net/video/nze8B39OB0k/видео.html That TV special broke records at the time with 10 million tuning in to the broadcast. They were the first Australian pop group to be in the top 5 in the US, UK, and Australia at the same time. Their 1967 concert in Melbourne at the Meyer Bowl was in the Guiness Book of Records for many years vas the largest concert in the Southern Hemisphere. So yes, The Seekers were popular.

The Seekers were one of the first Aussie bands to gain international success. Vanessa Amorosi is an Australian singer of immense power and range , she will really blow you away. She would give Aretha Franklin a run for her money ,easy. Truly you won't be disappointed no matter what she sings. She has a real Rock Chick vibe.

Hey guys there's a video of them recording this live in the studio almost 60 years ago. Be awesome to see ya do a reaction to that version video. Also their song "Georgie girl " would be a good choice too.

Judith is reknown for her beautiful singing and the band was the first export out of Australia to become very famous in the 1960's as a cross between pop and folk singing. They are all in their late 70's now but they have had a wonderful career. By the way England were the main country outside of Australia that really took to them, but they were known throughout Europe and the Americas as well, perhaps even Asia. Their first hit was called GEORGIE GIRL and that is on youtube too. It was used in a movie if I recall rightly.

The Seekers were a tremendous success in Australia and overseas. Iconic "folk" band, pure music and Judith Durham's phenomenal voice (a lot like Karen Carpenter's). They were much older here but still able to sing beautifully. Much loved by older Australians (young Australians probably don't know them). Very musically talented group. Their song "I Am Australian" is Australia's second national anthem.

Judith was recovering from a bad stroke before that tour. That is why you will sometimes see her sitting on the edge of a tall stool. You need to go younger like, The Carnival Is Over. Georgie Girl that I love because I sing it to my disabled granddaughter. Her name is Jordan but we call her Georgie. I think I love We Are Australian the most because it is ours. The Seekers were always lovely. Thank you.
