We may not have big-screen adaptations of the Dark Horse comic sequels to "Aliens" or "The Thing", but at least we got this movie.

I like the part where they do the cliche "what do you want?" and the entity just strait up answers them listing off various muscles and nerves it wants to harvest from them.
yeah, it's a fun subversion of the trope of having alien horror you can't understand. This one tells you what it's gonna do because it thinks you can't stop it.
The plot was questionable, but this movie has some nice cybernetic body horror to fuel my inner Cronenberg.
You should have that looked at it. It might spawn into little creature that will attack your enemies.

Imagine being in a horror movie and your character dies slipping off the ship like a three stooges bit.
hehe some people in horror films stooge themselves to death like with the last pradator movie the badguy shot himself with his own shoulder gun. at least this one wasint self invflicted, he was swept away by the current... it happens.

An alien made of electricity weirdly sounds quasi-Lovecraftian, if anyone also thought of The Color From Outer Space when it was described.
If Nic Cage had been in the Jaime Lee Curtis role, this would've been a totally different movie.

Sorry, but I can't help think of Rayden from Mortal Kombat when you point out that it's made of electricity. But it's much cooler than Rayden since it has abilities far beyond his.

It's not great, but that scene where the thing woke up on the table really stuck with me. It was fairly atmospheric, you might even say original. It had its moments for sure
I've never understood the hate for this film. It's a perfectly fun action horror romp with really good practical effects and a memorable cast of characters.
"Virus" A movie that's on the brink of being a 2000s movie, but still has close ties to the 1990s.
Well, "Virus: Day of Resurrection" is a bit too much on the nose right now, but on the other hand it's an American/Japanese production and it's every bit as overacted as "Latitude Zero".
I actually like this movie. The gory Borg stuff really set me on edge.
Human history from 200k years to 2019: "Viruses exist, we pay a price to live on this world" -everyone. Virus 2020: "We must stop people living and transfer their businesses into the hands of mega corps under cabal rule. We must become Authoritarian to save the .02% of us vulnerable to this virus" -World rulers.
Is it bad that this movie, Godzilla 1998 (US), and Dog Soldiers are my favorite all time movies :T

@@jamesthompson7694 you don't have to justify to me the things that give you pleasure. I was just goofing. I do however love Dog Soldiers. It was a pretty tight budget and I think they achieved what many more expensive movies never did.

More like the Dark Mechanicum than the Adeptus Mechanicus. Although the difference between them pretty much comes down to how they feel about the concept of innovation and which faction they consider convenient allies. But the cyborgs in this movie do actually look a lot like servitors.

Ah yes, the movie that made me terrified of all the red stand-by lights of the appliances/electronics in my parents' house when I was a kid. Going to the kitchen in the middle of the night was never the same. Good times, good times :P

Just like Thanos, the alien in " Virus" makes an excellent point. Another way it's like Thanos is he goes about implementing said point in entirely the wrong way.
The most shocking part of that whole thing was "By the way, yes, there was a sequel to Timecop". Like... WTF?
Ikr! I'm scared to even watch it now that I know it actually exist .
There was a Timecop series that ran from '97-98.
It is a decent sequel with a way more entertaining story and lots of time jumps through different eras.

I remember seeing this on VHS a few years after it was released to theatres. Maybe it was bc me and my younger bro were just turning 11-12 when we saw it, it's always been a favorite of ours. Never even knew it bombed back then.

9:58 they probably meant to write "Help me!" in Russian, but I guess Google translate foiled them. Instead they wrote something akin to "You help my". The correct way would be "Помоги мне!" or better yet "Спасите нас!" for "Save us!". Still works, but fits better.

It's kind of interesting watching actors who normaly do A movies in B movies, some always give their A-game, others may ham it up and enjoy the ride, and some just half ass it...
I remember seeing the toys for this movie. I bought the Jamie Lee Curtis figure just so I could display it with the Michael Myers figure on my shelf.

I loved this movie when it came out and still do. the monster looks so awsome
Everyone always thrashes this movie so hard but I think it's quite decent in its genre. Great setting, incredible effects and Donald Sutherland as the Captain is awesome!

Lmao you have to kidding. The movie is lame, boring, derivative, and Donald Sutherland is a bad captain with a terrible Irish accent. The effects are the only good thing about it.
There's also a novelization that gives more backstory to the characters and even a name to the alien's creations, Biomorphs.

Fun fact, Perry has also worked on tons of novels and comics from Resident Evil to Aliens Vs. Predator.
@@Vonalray There is also a game for it that never released in the US I have a French copy that I found at a swap meet and its kind of like Resident Evil meets PS1 Tomb Raider.
When you watch a lot of bad movies for fun, Virus wouldn’t make the cut. It’s too competently made and it lacks the cringe factor.
This movie was one of my go to rentals when nothing caught my eye back in the day. The "Steve" line even was quote we'd throw around with my dad.
It reminds me of the "Alan" line from Jurassic Park 3...

One thing of note about this film is that director John Bruno was also the key animation director on the "Taarna"

I still have ALL my Phyrexian mtg cards, the good original phyrexians. I love there aesthetic.
Still waiting for Wizards to go back to New Phyrexia since they essentially left the story open and abandoned Koth there
@@danpaul4779 I don't, nothing against New Phyrexia, to me the plane and everything related to it is too dark for their milk toast storytelling, IMO since Origins the lore has been in a sharp decline, they have no edge they are rounded like a river rock; since Amonkhet I just stopped paying attention to the story anymore.
@@g.sergiusfidenas6650 that's true. Wizards has essentially stuck to their tried and true formula of pumping out new sets without much lore behind them. The whole Theros block was boring and then going back to it after only a set or two was really weak storytelling. I just want more body horror Cronenbergesque Phyrexian nightmares. Closest we got was the latest Eldrazi set based in Innistrad.
I was watching some of Brandon's old videos, and he seemed a tad more hopeful in his voice. Its like these movies beat him down...i love it and this channel is underrated.

That "Помогаи меня" written in blood was pretty funny, not gonna lie. Writing a plea for help with one's own blood on the wall would be pretty silly even if they didn't butcher the grammar in the process.
I actually remember seeing this movie on TV. Back then I thought it was decent, if not very memorable. I don't see why it was hated by critics and audiences so much.

@@davidgantenbein9362 Captain Power and the Soldiers of the Future! Oh it was real, they had toys. They had this weird gimmick when the characters in the show powered up, you aimed the toy at the screen and it supposedly interacted with it.
Hell yeah it was Captain Power. I had the white and black ships with I think 2 VHS tapes. Little figures went inside the ships. Man I would love to see this Channel Review that series hahaha
I used to have a video with two episodes from the show when I was a kid!
I still have one of the animated VHS tapes they put out in addition to the Live Action series.
Unfortunately the Powerjet XT-7 and my figures went missing a long time ago.
But I did manage to pick up the DVD of the live series that came out about 5 years ago I think.
Oh and the CGI "bird" was named Soaron and his tank brother was Blastarr.
This was the first Horror movie that I saw when I was a kid and I had nightmares for a few weeks. But now that I saw your review, I think I want to rewatch again! Can´t believe Donald Sutherland was in this movie!
This is genuinely one of my favorite movies.
I really enjoyed Virus. The plot is kind of dumb, but the special effects are pretty damn good.
It is like a more modern day b-flick and I love that.
You should definitely do Moontrap. That movie shows Bruce Campbell at his Bruce Campbelliest.
I love this film. It's probably my favourite cyberpunk film of all time.
The gore and grime of Tetsuo meets the budget and effects of Robocop.
I agree that Virus isn't one of the worst horror flicks ever, however when I first saw it on VHS I was disappointed by it. The setting with the huge ship is actually pretty cool and atmospheric, was expecting a better movie to match that. Oh well, at least it has entertainment value.

I remember enjoying this movie years ago. I still think the organic/mechanic builds are awesome.

Saw the TV version of this film when I was a young teen. Being a fan of anything to do with robots/cyborgs, I really dig this movie based on the concept and effects alone, even if it's otherwise somewhat lackluster. Give me some creepy-looking cyberzombies and a monstrous death machine and I'm sold.
For all it's faults, this movie looks great and is a lot of fun. A bit of a guilty pleasure.

Merry Christmas, Brandon! This is a spooky and appropriate movie to end 2020 with, since both the year and the monster seem unstoppable and horrific.
This seems like they discovered an SCP by mistake. Like an origin story for how one got found by the foundation.

A ship stuck adrift in the ocean. It is discovered the ship's controlled by what can only be considered a rogue AI. The AI has used many of the ship's onboard machinery to construct multiple mechanised automatons that seem to be under its direct control. In addition to this, many automatons appear to be built from a combination of mechanical parts salvaged from onboard the ship and biological matter, most likely salvaged from the corpses of the previous crew and other people who managed to board the ship post the takeover by the AI. The AI is extremely hostile and will attack any biological lifeform it encounters onboard the ship via use of the automatons, often mutilating them until death. It will then surgically reconstruct their bodies with cybernetic implants, effectively rebuilding them as new automatons.
That was rather long winded but tell me you couldn't see that as an SCP and be intrigued.
you got to admit this movie deserve a second chance it has a good concept it would be cool if they made and animated series like the godzilla the series.
I will forever love this movie. Those organic robot cyborg zombies hold a special place in my heart.

This is literally a System Shock movie set on a boat instead of space.

Donald Sutherland could’ve made this movie so much better if had just tried lol... love the system shock cybernetic body horror vibes.
Watched this movie back in 2000. Way to young back then and even though much of the gore scenes were cut ( in germany anyway) it was still pretty scary. The practical effect really sell that weirdness of flesh and metal being melted toghether.

My guess is that unless your doing a Star Trek film in the TNG era cyber body horror just doesn't sell. Star Trek First Contact came out in 1996 with its high budget smorgisborg sequence showing the newly assumulated Enterprise E crew in there proto drone states moving in to get there prosthetic enhancements for specialized use. It was a kind of horror artsy sequence
