    • @agentepolaris4914
      @agentepolaris4914 3 года назад +15

      @Donny Sites as far as I know, yes, this movie in particular didn't do very well in Latin countries because it had a rather limited release and since it was rental video not many people was able to keep a copy, it's so lost that when TV channels air the movie (the very few times they do btw) it is in English with subtitles rather than dubbed.
      But this movie is not alone, the latino versions of many other but most notably 80's and early 90's horror movies, mostly those that went direct to video, are sadly lost and the only proof of their existence are mere memories.

    I liked Dolly Dearest. Unlike most other "evil doll" films, it doesn't come off as a slasher flick, more like a possession flick. I didn't even notice the similarities with Child's Play the first time I saw it, because it is so different from it. Other than a talking doll that kills, they don't have that much in common.
    So if you see it as an Exorcist knock-off rather than a Child's Play knock-off, the low kill count and the slow pacing fits.
    Heck, Amityville Horror had a very similar feel to it and the only one who died there was the dog. And that got praised as a horror classic!

    I wouldn't be surprised if the writers of Dolly Dearest had heard of it and "borrowed" the idea for their own movie. Both films did premiere only a couple months apart.

      I thought she was fired and didn't have a choice. I heard two versions of this story. In one it was Roddenberry who hired her and liked her work and when he died the people who took over got rid of her because they hated her. The other version was she posed in Playboy and wore a knock-off Star Fleet uniform in one picture and Paramount (I guess it was) fired her for that. I don't know if that one is true though because Terry Hatcher did the same thing with a Superman cape and she wasn't fired. Then again firing Lois Lane would probably be a lot more complicated. :)

      @@LibraGamesUnlimited it was Kim Cattrall that shot nude photos on the set of Star Trek VI, to which Leonard Nimoy was furious. I have never heard of Denise Crosby doing such a thing. Also, Denise left Star Trek of her own free will in 1988, the later half of Season One. Gene Roddenberry died in 1991, just prior to the theatrical release of Star Trek VI. If Denise had been fired, she would not have been welcomed back into future appearances in Star Trek The Next Generation, both as Tasha Yar in alternate time lines or in scenes set in the past, or as the Romulan Sela who appeared several times and even got a scene with Leonard Nimoy as Spock.

      @@jamiebraswell5520 Pretty sure I saw the cover she was on and I know a friend of mine said he had the issue (at least at one time).
      There have been cases of fired actors coming back to shows, either because the person who fired them has left or someone above them has pulled rank on them.
      I really have no idea either way. I guess she might have left because she felt with so many characters she wasn't getting enough screen time (that was, reportedly, why George Eads left "McGyver" because they kept adding new characters and he didn't feel it was worth his time to live out where they film, away from his family, for an ever diminishing role).
      A lot of the time the real reasons are never truly known.

    I'll give Dolly this over chucky: I can buy that little girls would want one based on her normal appearance, whereas the Good Guy dolls already looked unsettling to begin with. In fact, it's kind of impressive that they managed to make a realistic child-like doll that doesn't immediately dive straight down the uncanny valley, which also makes the double-personality concept work a lot better.
