A lot of jealous mediocre musicians like Kurt Cobain and nazi symphaizer Roger Waters. Collins was a world-class drummer and entertainer. His music has aged well and will endure.
Phil was a really good and tight drummer. His work with Eno and Brand X were superior. When Genesis let him sing I think it swelled his head... thus the slow descent of his original craft. One must remember, also, Gabrial created the gating and no-symbol drum kit. Sussudio? (excuse me while I puke.) Peace on earth.
I'm a 90s kid and a huge fan of the alternative scene, Kurt Cobain, and Oasis era, but I find it funny that people are obsessed with them. I'm glad Phil Collins was just being quiet.
I am 67 yrs old and have seen so many artist in concert. I saw Paul Mc Cartney, Oasis and many many more. I also saw Genesis several times and Phil Collins solo. Let me tell you. No one, really no one comes close to Phil Collins in live concerts. This man is phenomenal and very versatile. I don't know Phil Collins personally. And I don't know if the artist mentioned really hate him. I know Noel Gallagher of Oasis once said he hates Phil Collins. I don't know why. But I think that if artists really hate Phil Collins, it's pure jealousy. Jealous of his unprecedented talent, his enormous music skills and his great and long career. And that for a man who has always remained himself and kept his feet on the ground.
You can tell Phil Collins didn't want to do something that The people that run the music industry wanted him to do And that's why people are making up stories now Of why they don't like him.... Think about it when the last time you've seen Phil Collins?? ..... You can't black ball Someone that already made you a lot of money and gave you a lot of great music. That's what happens in Hollywood They tell you to do something Weird You don't want to do it and then they blackball you. The only difference is he's not from America. So his music lives on through the rest of the world if you peep the video.
You won't find musicians any more overrated and bitter than Cobain and the Gallaghers, and has Roger Waters ever said a kind word about anyone, ever? Page is just pissed off that he fucked up the gig himself, and Collins was a convenient scapegoat. As for McCartney, maybe on this one occasion Phil should have kept his own counsel! Let's face it, Collins has more talent in his big toe than 99% of all the other rock musicians put together. Genesis has been the soundtrack to my life - rock on Phil!
Singer Phil Collins is STILL ALIVE....HE IS 73....singer Kurt Cobain died by SUICIDE IN 1994....therefore, when someone leaves a comment, please make sure your comments are correct & factual....
Lets see, Kurt, a man so unfortunately miserable he couldn't live with himself and Roger Waters, a man so miserable his band mates couldn't live with him, have low opinions of Phil Collins? I dont hold either opinion in much esteem. Phil, one of the few people to sell 100M albums as a solo act and 100M albums in a band doesn't need their, or my approval. Listen to the drumming on Apocalypse 9/8 or Squonk. Listen to the song writing on I Dont Care or the Tarzan soundtrack. It literally speaks for itself.
Trey Parker should’ve made this list too. I mean he is an Academy award nominated musician for his song blame Canada on the South Park soundtrack and he has never been shy about expressing how angry he is that he lost to Phil Collins.
I had quite hard times learning "Against all odds" on the piano. Beautiful but complex chords. On the other hand, "Wanderwall" on a guitar was on 2nd take. I prefer the former filling up the space.
I love Phil Collins, but this video reminds me of the South Park episode where he's made fun of for winning Tarzan the best original song Oscar over South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut
I predicted at the time of the 'battle' between oasis and blur that oasis would go away because, although I was not a fan of blur, it was obvious that Damon had original writing talent unlike Liam. Phil was such an icon. A stocky, not so pretty drummer pushed into fronting a band. If not for Phil, all electronic music would sound different. Those iconic 80's drum sounds? I didn't like everything he made but when I think of how many I do, well...
Saw that tour at Madison Square Garden. Studied Phil like a hawk. His live drumming is even better than his studio drumming, which is amazing in itself!
Phil Collins, like him hate him? Awesome with the (Real) Genesis lineup. (Pop) Genesis was okay. Phil Collins solo music towards the end of his career I was not to found of, but it was tolerable. Phil Collins has had a good run and I am sure he is making out well on his roayalties. I only wish that when they had the Final Genesis Tour that Peter Gaberial and Steve Hackett would have joined up with them. Rogers Waters should talk, at least Phil Collins pumps out music, even if it is for Disney. How abut you Roger? Oasis or the Gallagher brothers, they are just nursery rhymes meant to played on teeny booper stations.
I've never had a problem with him, maybe the criticism of how he kicked off "Rock & Roll" was valid as it's one of my pet peeves. The punters should be able to identify the song by the drummer's intro just holding the beat isn't enough. I'm an amateur musician in my seventies and remember the feeling that I got when I first played with a drummer, man what a blast it was wonderful.
If Phil Collins wouldn't rehearse with Led Zep before Live Aid then Page and Plant should have had a replacement lined up and told Collins to take a hike.
Pure jealousy on their part. Phil Collins is a legend. He had a huge career as a solo artist and with Genesis at the same time. Those artists couldn't do that. End of.
Seen him 5 times from '87 to '07. Never gave a bad performance. And if you're quoting a raging anti-semite, who is universally shunned by everyone he has ever worked with; you may be looking in the wrong places for good judges of character.
Well he did turn a 70s progressive, creative and unique sounding band into a middle of the road, adult orientated, dad music, soft pop band of the 80s. I'm sure he earned a shed load of dosh, so not all bad then.
I don't understand Page complaining about any of the drummers there that night.. I saw the performance interestingly today.. Couldn't get to the end listening Plant's problems with his singing.. And that's a member of that band, one that, as they said, rehearsed..
Phil Collins is one of only three artists to ever sell 100 million albums as a solo artist and part of a group. When you combine his solo work and work with Genesis, he had 51 US top 40 hits and eight number one hits (seven solo US number ones and Invisible Touch being Genesis’ only US number one hit).
If there is a doubt about Phil Collins talent listen to Genesis Trick Of The Tail. As a drummer listen to any Genesis album from 1975 and back. Really Phil shows talent today. Yes he did go commercial but no he never sold out listen every last Genesis album and you will find some prog rock. I won't go as far to say he is as talented as Peter Gabriel but not many people are including those who slammed Collins who are not even as talented as he is .
I don't like him or his music. But there are a lot of people that do, and a lot of other acts that I like. It's called a matter of taste, not good or bad taste, just different. It doesn't bother me that people like him anymore than it should bother people that I don't like him.
Genesis were incredible; probably my favourite band of all time, and Collins is among the very best rock fusion drummers. I never took to Phil's solo music though. As much as I also love Pink Floyd, Waters can be a bit of a mouthy gobshite at times. I wouldn't expect the likes of Cobain or Gallagher to be complimentary about Collins. They operated in a very different world.
He had some good work with Genesis, although he was no Peter Gabriel. As a producer every artist he touched ended up sounding like Phil Collins. Absolute disaster.
Well, Kurt. Pardon me if i take YOUR opinion with a grain of salt. The real talent in Nirvana didn't kill himself and went on to form a much superior band called Foo Fighters. Also, I have every Phil Collins and Genesis album (among the hundreds and hundreds of groups in my collection) and no Nirvana music. I listened to Nirvana and thought it was overrated and sucked.
Imo Phil Collins was a far more talented singer, songwriter and musician than Kurt Cobain ever was, I don't even think Kurt was the most talented in his genre, the likes of Eddie Vedder and Layne Staley were better singers and songwriters and I think if he hadn't have died so young under the circumstances he did I don't think Nirvana would've continued to be half as popular as they were.
After Steve Hackett left the pop direction really amped up. I do like certain tracks on the later albums, but every album had more tracks that I'd rather skip.
Curt Cobain didn't like Phil Collins. . . And then pained the wall. . . . TOTALLY valid point of view from Curt who was a GREAT thinker. . But now he doesn't think any more. . Oh well . . No great loss
Over the years, its gotten harder for me to be generous about Noel and Liam, they are vastly overrated, Oasis is a good band, liked their first two albums, but these guys were never deities.
The title of this video is a little misleading. Page's comments feel more like they were about everything that went wrong with Live Aid, of which Collins was a part of that experience, not so much a direct shot at Phil or his abilities. Everyone else just seemed like they were expressing personal opinions of the man and/or his music, which they are entitled to. Not everybody is required to like everybody else just because they are in the same profession.
Rebellious? Cobain's remarks were beyond juvenile. Gallagher's comments only show how shallow and envious he was. He couldn't be less irrelevant or more pathetic.
Why did Cobain feel the need to bring the subject of race into his criticism of Collins?🤔 Perhaps he was ahead of his time, this Kurt chap. You know, before he did us all a favour, and blew said head off. Incidentally, I'm not a Collins fan, just detest identity politics and race baiting bollocks. Especially by privileged so called musicians.

A lot of jealous mediocre musicians like Kurt Cobain and nazi symphaizer Roger Waters. Collins was a world-class drummer and entertainer. His music has aged well and will endure.
Phil was a really good and tight drummer.
His work with Eno and Brand X were superior.
When Genesis let him sing
I think it swelled his head... thus the slow descent of his original craft.
One must remember, also, Gabrial created the gating and no-symbol drum kit.
Sussudio? (excuse me while I puke.)
Peace on earth.
I love Firth Of Fith, Suppers Ready and I love Sussudio...
The best thing Cobain did for us was turn his own lights out.. Three chord king
Phil Collins has done more than enough to prove himself worthy as a musician/singer songwriter and unlike a few musicians. Phil can act.
I've met musicians who have interacted with Paul McCartney and they had nothing but great things to say about him, really.
What I love about Phil Collins is he admits even he got overloaded with “Phil Collins” by the early 90’s😂
Singer Phil Collins is STILL ALIVE....HE IS 73....singer Kurt Cobain died by SUICIDE IN 1994....therefore, when someone leaves a comment, please make sure your comments are correct &
factual....
The good die young and their status has nothing to do with their music. Separate the artist from the art. Even doing so, Phil Collins is STILL trash.
Personally, I don't think Phil deserves all the hate. He hasn't done anything wrong to anybody. He's still one of the greatest of all time 👌🏻
I love Phil Collins, but this video reminds me of the South Park episode where he's made fun of for winning Tarzan the best original song Oscar over South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut
I'll never forget Nirvana Unplugged being my first CD in my Stocking on Christmas morning. I played it all year until today!
The only time I saw phil live was with plant on his first tour and he was great
Saw that tour at Madison Square Garden. Studied Phil like a hawk. His live drumming is even better than his studio drumming, which is amazing in itself!
When Keith Moon died, Collins asked Townshend if he could drum for The Who. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Phil Collins made it against all odds
Genesis went down hill after Peter Gabriel left the band. Phil, " No Talent Required", Collins.
Banks and Rutherford were at least equally to blame (or credit) for the change in direction.
Yes. When Steve Hackett left, that was the final nail in the coffin.@@mnbubba
Collins and Oasis summed each other up accurately
I don't understand Page complaining about any of the drummers there that night.. I saw the performance interestingly today.. Couldn't get to the end listening Plant's problems with his singing.. And that's a member of that band, one that, as they said, rehearsed..
Phil met Paul long before 2002, one example: he played drums on a track of McCartney's 1986 Press to Play record.
If you hate Phil Collins, you also hate puppies.
Paul McCartney held a grudge against Collins for more than 20 years
Page was drunk at that Live Aid gig, and Plant’s voice was dreadful.
Stop with the egos, there's plenty of fans to go around.
I like him even though I met him once. Nice guy as well as a great performer. Most celebrities met were nice, only a few exceptions.
You do not hate Phil Collins! You need to hate Sheryl Crow
How did that work out for Cobain? He hated other artists so much he blew his brains out!
Poor Phil , the most misunderstood man in rock and roll
The funny thing is, Kurt looks like Phil.
"I've got 2 ears and a heart don't i?" Jack Donnaghey
Nothing clever ever passed through Kurt Cobain's head
I love Phil Collins because his music is (almost) always upbeat and positive.
What a ridiculous article , they are probably jealous of his success.
Enjoyed Genesis and Phil until the early 80's where they deluged the world with tepid pop song after tepid pop song.
After Steve Hackett left the pop direction really amped up. I do like certain tracks on the later albums, but every album had more tracks that I'd rather skip.
dont have my glasses, Read 'Mexicans who cant stand phil collins'
LOL
Well, to be fair, don’t the Gallagher brothers hate everyone? It’s just an observation… they get along with others like oil and water. 😅
Musicians can't stand Phil Collins.
There I fixed it.
For the record I think nirvana are complete crap and cannot name a single track of their work.
Curt Cobain didn't like Phil Collins. . . And then pained the wall. . . . TOTALLY valid point of view from Curt who was a GREAT thinker. . But now he doesn't think any more. . Oh well . . No great loss
Curt never wanted to be a musician. He wanted to be a dolphin and breathe through the top of his head.
probably one on the best voices ever
And all of those are nowhere near as talented as him, what a coincidence
Why did Cobain feel the need to bring the subject of race into his criticism of Collins?🤔
Perhaps he was ahead of his time, this Kurt chap. You know, before he did us all a favour, and blew said head off.
Incidentally, I'm not a Collins fan, just detest identity politics and race baiting bollocks.
Especially by privileged so called musicians.
