"Is that Phil or Not-Phil?"
"Thats John Thompson."
The most British answer possible.
an american would had said "was that an attempt at being funny cuz that was fucking lame bro"
@@deadeyes2803 Sheltered preconceived notions.
@@deadeyes2803 That's why people don't like Americans "bro".
Ba dum Tsss
Hahaha!! 🤣
“It was Arrowsmith with Run-DMC”
Phil: “Oh, okay”
You can hear the disinterest when he says that
Phil, in his head: "Bloody fuckin' Americans."
Kind of like your disinterest to spell Aerosmith correctly, eh?
Actually it was Awwowsmith with Wun-DMC
😂😂😂wun_ DMC💪🏼
Two bad sounds that sound bad together.
Phil Collins is one of the best musicians of all time. He's always been a favorite of mine!!!😁
no he is not "one of the best". He is just one of them.
@@morbidmanmusicPhil Collins is more than you think. I was listening to his music and buying them without even getting what he is saying. He is among the best.
Phil Collins OWNED the 80s. One of the greats.
As much as people thinking that Phil was uncomfortable during this, I absolutely adore watching Phil still miming the drums at 4:37 and 5:24!
I think Phil is regretting getting sober at this point
Haha.
MickyAvStickyHands That Prince album on your profile picture is amazing!
loooooooooool
That Prince album picture👍
Lets keep this at 666 guys
Long live Phil Collins! There will never be another like him.
Except maybe his sons :)
Thank god
Facts!
Phil on the outside = totally chill
Phil on the inside = "OMG, THAT IS NOT HOW YOU PLAY THAT ON THE DRUMS!"
Only retards who are trying to impress people say "chill" 🙄🤦♂️
SO GOOD to see Phil Collins out and about!! Guy is a LEGEND
But maaan he got old lol! But yeah still great!
3:24 Phil's face when "in the air tonight" starts playing
That was a fricking load of pain....
"fuck off" is the face he's making.
His son does that song now
@@destinyc123 really?
@@java4656 yeah, when I saw him perform last March his son does all the drumming and he just sings. Was still a wicked concert tho 👌
I met John when he played a comedy gig in one of my local pubs a few years back. An absolute gent, genuinely such a nice guy! He's just a proper down to earth bloke who doesn't act like he's better than anyone.
Phil's got that "e's butchering my tracks. I've gone straight to hell." expression
i dont know if hes gone straight to haites...

Phil is truly a legend. Sort of sad to see him getting older and not performing anymore. His songs will live on forever. Amazing!
Phil Collins = Legend. LOVE him.
0:05 poor Phil was expecting some audience laughs
that shit has me laughing nonstop
He would've probably had them if the host didn't interrupt him, a good host would've easily caught that hehe
How in the heck, that’s funny AF. Should have gotten a better audience
I get it :D This was joke from ruclips.net/video/mIMv8ZyfnJ8/видео.html
@@bogdangaric4540 Ahh, thank you! I'd have never understood what was so special about that.
But then again, never mind the audience, I'd have expected a laugh from John Thompson at least.
He’s been playing 35 years but once every 10 years...
phil is definitely noticing everything hes doing wrong, he looked heated after the terrible in the air tonight fill lolll
😂
You do know it was a joke right? Don't be an idiot
A true one of a kind. They'll never be anyone like you Phil. Thank you for everything, and long live. Wishing you all the best legend, and thank you for carrying my childhood with your talent. 💙👑
Ba-Dum-Tish!
`Phill is not the only talented dwammah´
...in the "womb" right now 😂
yes ... and the song was by EWOSMITH and WUN DMC :P
JAJAAJJJAJ
MAWWAIGE IS WAT BWINGS AHS TOGEVUHH
And do you, Pwincess, Bwuttuwcup, take this man...
"Walk this way" was such an easy one. I am amazed none recognized it.
I think Phil would've got it had they used the original version.
@ppdan
Definitely intentional...could have been an actor too.
It’s a shit song. No one with decent taste knows it
Breaks my heart to see phil like this 😢
Even worse now 😢
Phil just generally seemed like he didn't want to be there.
NESherv It's like he always feels that way!
I mean, he's a drummer who can't play drums anymore and they put him on a stage with a guy playing HIS songs? He's old, he's in constant pain. He probably didn't want to be there. I can understand.
Yeah, I felt it was extremely insensitive
NESherv could we say he lost his mojo?
I agree but Phil manager has to get him booked on talk shows and if he wants to be recognized its the best that he can be done.
Phil quite rightly appears to want to be anywhere but on that sofa. He’s the type of artist who deserves a one to one interview, instead of being sat next to a lineup better suited to an episode of Blankety Blank.
I don't think you understand how British late night works mate
Yes!!! Agree
I don't think Phil felt in any way threatened by John's drum skills. :D
Phil is a genius. Singer, musician, songwriter, producer.
Also an actor, drummer, pianist! Absolute icon
He's a drummer first! (or maybe genius first)
Probaly one of my all time favourite singer/song writers but definitely my favourite drummer by a country mile. What a legend
Completely agree 👍
Who the hell would offer to play drums in front of Phil Collins?
Hell I would that's how you get better
Redlight Records
Same thing with actors who think they can sing.
On the contrary, musicians CAN act.
Reminds me of my first karaoke. I sang „Feel“ by Robbie Williams and learned afterwards that the host was the singer in a RW cover band...
Ringo.
@Frank1979Zappa What? So many musicians are bad at acting, even in short cameos. And there's a ton of actors who can sing very well. That is one very baseless generalization.
Considering he was arguably the world's best drummer for a significant period of time, it makes sense that he would have the humility to know when to step down. I respect that. It's nice to know though, that he's finally starting to get some true recognition. This man deserves a hug. Luckily many of his creations and music are still being heard live around the world, supported by creative drummers and appreciative fans.
Always loved Phil’s playing.
It's a surprise Phil's ears didn't start bleeding. Most people don't know just how good of a drummer he was in his prime (Brand X anyone?).
Completely agree. Brand X is actually touring again, without Collins. They're playing (or might have already played?) The Blue Note in NYC recently.
And I should also add, his work on early Genesis, and especially for me, A Trick of the Tail.
gringochucha Livestock !! Brilliant... Percy Jones on bass
Gotta say the drum sound on Trick of the Tail is absolutely brilliant. And his performance on Los Endos! Oh man!
Love that album!
brilliant!!!
I f'kin love Phil Collins. Amazing talented musician but also a great personality. Who remembers him way back in the 80's when he was in Miami Vice. Great episode.
The legend, the main man, Philip Collins!
I hadn't listened to Phil since my teens, and gosh 10 years have really made a difference for him
Phil just looks like he was forced to be there.
Phil has been in a lot of pain for years.
I adore Phil Collins. ❤️ 🥁
Wow, Phil really livened up this segment..
Phil Collins is my biggest idol! What a talent.
How did they NOT get the first one, it´s clearly Aevosmith.
aevosmith m8
walk this way *
lol
Your joke was funny, I laughed.
no you didn't!!!!
Grew up with Phil Collins. My dad used to play his songs when I was little. Now I'm playing his songs to my son❤
What a great clip! Wish I'd watched the whole show now. ....bugger.
Phil looks like the guy works at a music shop and tries out every instrument just for fun
and is absurdly good at any instrument he plays
In English, please.
Phil looks like the guy works at a music shop and tries out every instrument just for fun
@TDOJ I didn't even notice that until I read your comment and read the OP's comment again. It's like your brain fills in the gaps, the missing words and punctuation to make sense of the sentence. 🤯🤯🤯
Phil doesn't look impressed haha. He played "in the air tonight" wrong but good effort!
I didn't want to be THAT GUY but you're right...He left out the bass drum:)
IMO, he played them all wrong and his timing was pretty shaky. But good enough I suppose, as I got them all - as I suspect most people did.
@@SciFiArtman
Yeah ... that was all over the place.
The guy is a comedian, so I suppose it was to be expected that he would make a mockery out of those parts. 😬🤣😉
Yes.!..he didn't play part of it.
I love Phil Collins. Love his musicianship and his vocals. !!
that In The Air Tonight song was definatly Phil. I mean anyone that hears that song will instantly reconise that drum riff solo is instantly Phil right on the spot.
2:57 I was waiting for one to be played that originally used the gated reverb effect on the drums.
Phil does not look pleased to be on that show.
I don't think it is that. He just looks nearly senile. He couldn't even tell an aerosmith song.
Paid.
John Stewart, he has lost his hearing. Also the probably paid him to act like he didn't know. All these shows are written for max viewer showing.. and whatever it takes to get the numbers..
John Stewart he didn’t mind the fee though did he
He doesn't seem upset to me at all. Looks like he is having fun.
Phil Collins looks older than his years. He was 65 when this was recorded. He looks like he's in his early 70s.
I know. It's so sad.
it is genetic he always seemed like 10 o 12 years older that already he was
Phil is a LEGEND!!!
He played the Aerosmith one very well! I love that cymbal sound, but as I'm not a drumset player, I don't know how it's done!
Phil Collins the best ! Great man
0:52 every drummer while the guitarists tune up 😂
Lmfao
Lovely wee hand out from Phil at the end, a drummer to drummer moment.
This was generally uncomfortable.
well sorry that not everyone is as good as you mister tom jones
test
too many egos
It's not unusual...
Awkward and a little bit cruel - like inviting an alcoholic to a wine-tasting.
Agreed. But that's all Jonathan Ross can do, rip the piss out of people as he has no talent of his own. Phil Collins, absolute legend.
well they are british
Jonathan has a pretty nice tie in this video, though.
I didn't understand what you meant until I found out that Phil can't play drums anymore. Yes, this was very stupid and bordering on cruel. Typical Woss.
@Rowan Melton Severe back problems
Amo o Phil Collins!!!!
Gotta love Jonathan Woss
Lol, Phil doesn't recognize Aerosmith!
yeahh thats kind of shocking
Couldn't believe that either!
I know. Not only Aerosmith, it was a popular track from Phil's golden era, 1986.
metjovi
And back then, Collins didn't give a rats ass about anyone. A bit like in this interview. Being his usual self...
To be fair he's wrote and performed on like 30+ albums. You're not gonna remember them all.
Plz come to the states Phil
Phil Collins was so incredibly lucky to land a gig with Peter Gabriel on vocals, Steve Hackett on guitar, Mike Rutherford on bass and Tony Banks on keyboards. He had such an easy ride to stardom.
I love Phil Collins so much 💖
Thank you
Thanks for liking and listening to my songs, Thanks for your love ♥️and moral support. I hope you have been well entertained over the years?
Ok so they get Phil Collins on their show and they decide to get somebody else to play the drums.... sure
Mikey Proctor he can't play at the moment
***** Why not?
he lost stength in his right hand, he's working on recovery though.
Phil dislocated several vertebra in his upper neck while touring with Genesis back in 2007 which affected his hands and unfortunately can never play again.
oh, so sad to hear that!
I'm surprised Phil got "Easy Lover", I love that song and couldn't pick up on it, the second one sounds a bit like the opening to "Inside Out" haha
I thought the same thing myself about inside out, but then realized that it was probably too deep of a cut for anyone on the production staff of the show to select it.
"that's an orange band in Belfast"
😂😂😂😂
That was fun--for the most part!
Thanks for liking and listening to my songs, Thanks for your love ♥️and moral support. I hope you have been well entertained over the years?
Phill Collins is a Living Legend. Good to see hes smiling and looking god.
Just watched Phil Collins on JR show,we'll done Phil awesome an inspirstion your as good as ever regards Alan
That's just not true. He was waayyyy better in 2004 and even better in 1982 at his peak.
Fitzibutzi his peak for drumming was 1971-1980
Friggin HILARIOUS 😂😂
I love the music of Genesis and Phil Collins!
2:55 -- he didn't put the kick in, between the toms.
Thank you for all drummers
and he has been playing for 35 years
We want to hear a Buddy Rich solo. Only Phil Himself could meet that challenge.
I love you Phil no matter what.
That Yamaha Recording Custom is one helluva drum kit 👌🏼
God I love Phil!!!
He apparently didn't practice much in those 35 years..
*****
He's always out of time and he has no understanding of dynamics.
lol as soon as he sat down and played I knew exactly that.
Phil can't drum no more pretty sure his wrist , is fuck he can't play !):
Years of bad posture damaged a few nerves on his neck, which ended up compromising his grip.
Which is sad because old Genesis drumming is genius.
Grande Phill Collins, non ti ritirare, sei un grandissimo musicista e una persona fantastica e buona. Quelli come Te devono vivere per sempre. Un Abbraccio
Makes me sad that Phil can't play anymore....
yes...it must be so painful for him!!...
What!? Why?
He has nerve damage in one of his feet, plus back and hip problems I believe.
Ty Hilliard damn 😖😖😖
Wow I didn't know that. In that case this is kind of cruel then.....
I love Phil, it upsets me seeing and hearing people have a go at him, he is a legend, and a world class drummer, and a good guy, he does look a bit tired
He's just not that good of a drummer at all.
OhRight, TheMurders are you on sumn
I love Phil Collin's songs but I've heard he is not the easiest person to work with.
@@boelleboble1388 No, just saying it straight...he ain't that good of a drummer.
Lee Schofield would you care to name someone who is/was better?
So great! :D
IN THE AIR TONIGHT WOOOW!!!!
I was waiting for the opening to Owner of a Lonely Heart.
Phil is such a funny and happy guy. He could tell the jokes. On the graveyard.
Merci pour les sous-titres... Merci à ceux qui ne comprennent pas l'anglais... Merci beaucoup... Fan de Phil Collins ;o)
Phil Collins was there as a funny actor - drummer-singer in many tv shows in the 80's and 90's : all is in his dvd live in Paris 2004 in the bonus dvd now, he changed of course but it's cool to see how he was before and respected from the Rap singers
It's beyond me that nobody among the guests could recognize Run DMC's Walk this way.
For some reason my mind was flashing on ELO's Don't Bring Me Down =/
Mainly because it's not Run DMC';s track, it's Aerosmith's
Well, it WAS played like shit.
Aerosmith's Walk This Way, but yes. The version featuring Run D.M.C. peaked at #8 in the UK and was a Platinum single there. The original single was 2xPlatinum in the US, although only Silver in the UK.
_"Hello and Welcome to Jazz Club..... Admirable"_
pra mi vc e o melhor
Phil Collins is a legend
And then they play the RUN DMC version. 🤥
The Sun Dog and then call it the original
They take diversity very serious in the UK
@theDracoIX while the beat is the same it sounds completely different
Phil is so funny when jonathan says he is not the only talented drummer in the room.
Apocalypse in 9/8 is one of my favorite drum parts of all time.
John is great on the drums fair play
0:04 you'll thank me
drumming for 35 years my arse.
He may well have been playing all that time, maybe he just hasn't practiced enough. Definitely looks self taught in any case!
Probably it's his not very serious hobby. He's definitely not Phil Collins.
StixH Phil is self taught. And is one of the best drummers of all time. This dude here is AWFUL.
StixH I'm mostly self taught and played for like a year and could do better than that
He never said in a row...
i actually got it!!!!! WALK THIS WAY! im so impressed with myself :)
“We wiil rock but a little bit faster” omg
i did get aerosmith which i'm surprised they didn't get but they're british. everyone knows "in the air."
walk this way is very well known in britain...
yep British here and i got it right away
Walk This Way is more well known for the Run DMC cover.
Aewosmiff are shite, I’m glad he didn’t know it, shows he must have good taste.
Yeah cos Aerosmith are unknown outside of the US right?
The reason I found out about Phil Collins is because his song I DON'T CARE ANYMORE came on my GTA 5 radio and I loved it. I looked it up and listened to a lot of his other songs and my favorite so far is SUSUDIO. My friends make fun of me, but no matter what I will still love his songs. Please don't blame me for just finding out about him. I was born in 2004. God bless you Phil Collins. Best drummer and will always be forever even when unhealthy. When he dies he will age back to his good years and do what he loves. HE IS A GOD!!!!! I love you Phil.😍😘😄😊😉😎
Jocelynn West do yourself a real favour and go and listen to his Genesis back catalogue, especially when he was drumming in early Genesis, the music is other worldly. If your a young person with a bit of patience take some time out and listen to whole albums in one go like Selling England by the pound and the lamb lies down on broadway. Life changing stuff.
Jocelynn West no man is a God love
Kingdongdingdongdang
Every word is true.
I especially recommend "Seconds Out".
Discovered it with 14. Working as a drummer now for 34 years. Totally happy.
So much for "life changing stuff".
I'd make fun of you for liking susudio the best too! at least you got your feet wet on "I don't care anymore" where he kicks major ass on drums! give some peter gabriel genesis a listen, and you'll see how amazing phil collins really is on drums. also, he's played live with eric clapton, nathan east, and greg phillinganes. that combination on stage is magical (provided you find versions where the sound is decent).
You wrote exactly what I wanted to say in reply to JW. Good on you! And you're spot on too. Early Genesis is the best and albums like the Lamb, SEBTP, Foxtrot and NC are incredibly good. Made me sad when Genesis began to transform into a pop band. Kind of like how Queen changed and not for the better, IMO.
Check out Phil Collins playing with Brand X. Awesome!!
Book ‘em, Phil!
Here, look, he can do what you unfortunately can't do anymore, I hope you'll like it!
Did they really think, he would enjoy this? It was painful enough for me as a huge fan of him.
