      SixxFox What pushes you to learn more about Programming C#? Im kind of lacking motivation in studying programming

    • @SixxFox
      @SixxFox 6 лет назад +4

      What I think about when it comes to learning more about Programming, is the fact that it is the meat and soul for how every game works and functions. I majored in Game Design & Animation when I went to college, and even learning how to animate and model on the side was really cool, the only flaw was it couldn't do anything until it had some code to it. I have a bunch of different motivations that change all the time when it comes to pushing myself to learn something new or struggling, but take breaks or chop it into pieces to make it easier on yourself. Hopefully this helped and I didn't want to make this too long to read :D

    When I was little, around the time I had started out in middle school, I was extremely fascinated with games. My parents were divorced and my dad worked over 14 hours a day as a truck driver, and my brothers were never home. So to keep me occupied, my dad went out and financed this dinosaur dell desktop from Costco. It sat in the living room next to the tv where I'd play halo 3 on the xbox360. Halo 3's forge mode really sparked my creative desire. But just like you, I wanted to make something all on my own. After doing digging online I found Unity. I actually ran into unity before I heard about game maker, and that's surprising because when I started using unity it was about 2010 maybe 2012. Kinda fuzzy thinking back that far. I remember the demo Island scene that came with Unity's standard assets and I remember spending countless hours watching the TornadoTwins and wondering how they did it. Eventually all the tutorials I watched and the experimenting I did for the past 6 or more years has made me into a fluent programmer. But Unity was still rough back then. I remember being very frustrated. And one time I even went to the Unity forums and asked for help but I got insulted by a Unity Guru for my spelling(I was a little kid, come on?). I actually left unity and tried game maker but I didn't like how game maker felt. Unity just felt more free and professional in terms of what you can do. Game maker might be easier, but Unity held my interest. I even tried this shitty RPG maker engine. Some weird sandbox engine for kids to make games. All of it was ass, I always found my way back to Unity. And it's really is crazy to see how far Unity has come. To think 6 years ago you had to put 2D sprites on 3D cubes and change the camera angle to only view the cube from one side so it looked 2D. Unity has come so far.

    It took me nearly two years to publish my first game on Steam. One of the most important lessons for me is that even seasoned developers are still learning. It's easy to get discouraged when trying to tackle a complex problem such as building a game when you've never learned to program before. Framing game development as a learning experience totally changes that, since looking up references, asking questions, and just generally learning is part of the job.

      I recommend Sooner rather than later, I wish I had even though I've been doing it for a few years now but I wanted to start years before but I kept putting it off. If anything just learn the basics like the UI of say Unity, and then if you feel adventurous give a tutorial a try. May take a while before you can remember stuff (Took me ages before I could make a bullet fire properly on my own in Gamemaker because I kept forgetting how to do things) but you'll get there!

      I agree with the above reply. I am 19 now trying to learn so many different things about game design. When I was younger ( around 15 ), I would always try to do something to make games, if it was Roblox or Old Gamemaker ( as shown in the video ) I was just never motivated and kept quitting each time. So Please start now before you have regrets years down the line like me.

      Honestly, the best way to learn is to practice. Going to Uni to study programming helps, but it's not worth the money xD! Seriously find something you want to do, something small that you know you'll be enthused to finish. And the go ahead and make it. Because if you choose something your not interested in, you'll get half way through and then just get bored and stop.

    Long ago there was a language called AmosPro and right up until the day I started with unity I felt there would never be an equal. However Unity can make you punch drunk really fast. Even with all I learned in the past. One day it just all clicked for me and I was off and running with Unity. That day happen watching one of your videos. By just seeing again that Software Development isn´t just setting up the IDE and getting started. It´s learning, sometimes from scratch. It´s making failures. Mostly all my skills developed from failures in the beginning. And with that said, I´m just loading up Unity and start again =)

    I got into game development due to a 2011 flash game. Yup, I mean Plazma Burst 2. Map making in that game was ultra fun and complex enough to make endless map ideas. Logic in that game is not handed via true coding, but by triggers. Triggers contain actions that receives two inputs and does a specific job. There are many actions to choose from and are well described in the manual which made it easy to directly experiment them without much help, at least most of the times.

    That's so crazy to me that you started developing games in almost the same way I did. I wonder how many young developers started by making Starcraft Broodwar and Warcraft 3 maps. I know I did, and then moved to Gamemaker 6 and then 7 and finally Unity!

    I really respect you Brackeys. I am currently trying to learn how to use Unity myself. I've only ever used RPG maker before this so C# and unity is a bit different to me and trying to use it independently is kinda difficult for me. My dream since a kid was to be a guy who makes games for a living cause at that time the idea of having a job making games is just surreal and it's still is to me till this day. I've only ever had lessons in Python but that was only the basics like making things move forward and creating geoflowers. Still I hope that I can get the hang of making a game like you one day. Keep up the amazing work and thanks for helping me realize my dream.

    As, always a great video. I myself started with an obsession with games that let you do what you want such as, MineCraft, and, Garry's Mod, I then moved onto making small replicas of retro games in, GameMaker, and now thanks to your amazing tutorials I am publishing my first game next week made in, Unity.
    Thanks...
