  • Did you know that 90% of every moment is defined by your past? Our brain is constantly linking things to our past. Amy the amygdala serves as a powerhouse of resources for us and is very involved in keeping us safe. She is a great threat detector, but when we are in relation with other humans her radar goes off the charts.
Other people have the power to hurt us more deeply because we need them so much. Dr. Kate explains that this is where the 90% of our past concept starts to play an important role in our relationships. If we’ve had bad past relationships, our brain remembers. Thus, our brain can bring experiences from the past into our present and cloud us with misconceptions.
Microprocessing moments where our brain is experiencing threats show up all the time, especially if we have had a complicated life in the past. Our amygdala remembers thoughts, feelings, and all sensory elements. When our brain goes into a threat response, our chest tightens causing us to breathe more shallow, which tells our brain that there’s an immediate threat. She explains that we can use CPR for the Amygdala to calm down our brain.

Your educational videos are the best. That example of your patient getting triggered by her boss was spot on. I never thought of how a past trauma could show up in such a small but impactful way. Ugh. Work trauma! I'm gonna go haven on that. 🤯💡
