I was not aware of this game so thanks for posting going to hunt this one down. RE Romulans and D7s it was in 3rd season Enterprise Incident, Kirk gets Vulcan ears! Romulans and Klingons exchanged technology so Romulans get help with ships designs and ship building end up building bigger and better ships and Klingons get Torpedos and Cloaking devices.
Also; the real-world reason the Romulans used D-7s is purely budgetary. The show was saving a few bucks by not building new ship models for the Romulans and instead hand-waved it away by giving Spock a throwaway line about Romulans now using Klingon technology. They canonically explained it later with the technology exchange story about Romulans getting tougher ships from the Klingons in exchange for giving the Klingons cloaking technology. Interestingly; the ubiquitous Klingon Bird of Prey first seen in Star Trek 3 was initially supposed to belong to the Romulans as they were intended to be the villains of ST3, but the producers felt general audiences were more familiar with Klingons. Imagine how different Trek would be if Kirk’s son David had been murdered by Romulans instead of Klingons! The ramifications would’ve reached into Undiscovered Country and beyond!!
@@allthingsnerd.4484 That is all true, and Klingons ended up as the mainstay also due to Klingon makeup was cheaper than the Romulan makeup. Props were switched across various episodes, personally I think its part of the charm of TOS :)
Bought this yesterday! Thanks for the video! ST fan since the 70’s. DS9 is my fave. Looking forward to Captain’s Chair. Captain Sisko will be one of the starting 6 captains. My only critique is the quality of the images and the layout of the cards. It could have been much more dynamic. The icons are so small.
The Klingons and Romulans sharing ship designs was a result of budget constraints for the production I believe. The in-universe explanation I think is that as they both had the federation as a common enemy, they shared technology that was found to be effective. Similar to how China has a carrier that was originally Russian. That sort of military cooperation isn’t far fetched.
Absolutely loved Star realms. The fact the star trek box is 2 to 4 player is cool. I have been trying to resist buying another game for a while (a lot of games in the cupboard that havent been played yet and a large pile of shame), but this might break that cycle. If I remember correctly, the Romulan bird of prey model for the original series got damaged or destroyed, so subsequent episodes with the romulans used the ktinga class (a quick google quotes spock saying intelligence says romulans are now using klingon ships).
Ape Jr absolutely loves Star Realms, he has all the sets but knows very little about Star Trek so I'm really looking forward to getting this for him as it might lead him into watching the shows.
Ds9 is not a federation owned base. It is owned by bajor. The federation was only there to run the station on behalf of bajor as an administrative task. Bajor was expected to join the federation but they didn’t as of the end of ds9
Robinson was the name given to the crashed Jem’Hadar Attack Ship salvaged by Sisko and the DS9 crew in the episode The Ship, and later used for infiltration in A Time To Stand and Rocks And Shoals. The name is beta canon and was given to the ship by Wizkids in the game Star Trek Heroclix Tactics and Star Trek Attack Wing. The story goes that Sisko named the ship after baseball player Jackie Robinson, but I suspect the actual nod was to Elim Garak actor Andrew Robinson. And in case you are wondering; I have actually kissed girls. 😆🤣😂
I think I prefer the art of the original Star Realms. Still cool to see Star Realms get reskined to appeal to new and existing players. I just got the Star Wars deck building game and the mechanics it shares with Star Realms are apparent. Star Realms is one of the best. I recommend it to everyone. All the best.
How come there are classic Romulans and Klingons but no classic Kirk’s enterprise? Need my favourite captain in the game. But Captain’s chair is also missing Kirk so whoever Kirk’s first gets my wallet haha
I enjoy Star Realms and have a ton of expansions, but it seldom hits the table. I don’t know if a star trek re-skin would actually get any more play than the original game. The graphic design is nice though.

The bortas was a Duros ship you was right, but it was a D5 from captain archer era of star trek.
Okay, they can take my money.
I do appreciate the color coding and popping out cardboard tokens is always a great time.

I saw this game online as a preorder and it looks cool. I played a lot of the SW Clone wars DB game and it is a ton of fun.

Never played Star Realms and am currently watching DS9 for the first time, so this really interests me

I’m a Star Trek fan but I thought the card art was sad looking.
Love S.R. Played this version this week still fun just wished the art popped more.
Star Realms is a great game. I have it on my phone and play it there.
I love deck building and I love Star Trek. What can go wrong?

Good point. - but if the federation ran it, I’m sure it could still warrant a place in here lol

Ha ha wonderful comment!

It doesn't look like the UFS/Universes game play would be involved in this game. I wonder why they are partnered in this project.
My only complaint is that card for card it is identical to star realms base game. They didn’t change a single card function.
Looks cool and I’ll probably pick it up , though I think star realms is better just imo
Adds to wishlist…..
Star Trek is as exciting to me as the sequel trilogy
It’s unfortunate….your video got me to go out and buy it! I’m happy I have it, but sad of the poor art quality.
Sorry to hear that
Cool, but sadly a deck building game. Not a fan of them.
