Good mycologist never picks mushrooms he doesn't know. Deadly mushrooms often can taste and smell good. Every mushroom is different.. many inedible mushrooms can be recognized by being bitter or burning on tonque, but some deadly mushrooms are said to be tastier than the edible ones.

No they don't necessarily have a bad taste/smell. The only way to know for sure is to identify them!
