  • Force fruiting is simply the process of creating environmental conditions that trigger the fungus into producing mushrooms (aka fruit).
    1. Soak your logs in clean water for 24-48 hours
    2. Remove from the water, and stack in a shaded area. Crib stacking works best for this.
    3. You should start to see mushrooms pop within a few days, and about 1 week after you should be getting a good flush.
It is important to know that the crop following the first year after inoculation will be light and you can expect the best fruiting to occur 2 to 3 years in. Let a log rest 8 weeks after forcing and force fruiting no more than 3X a year. A log will fruit for the same number of years of the logs diameter in inches.

Would you do this to other mushrooms, iow. not shitakes? Got some lions mane myself

Yes, the process is the same. Lion's Mane is known to be harder to grow, but it's worth a try. Check out Field & Forest for more info to get your success rate up.

@@TheHappyHomestead What do you mean by harder to grow?

Is it better to grow in more north or more south? I have an option to choose the location a bit.

@@kalmari.1269 They are a bit more picky. But it's not impossible. The totem method shows better results. www.fieldforest.net/category/lions-mane-mushroom-spawn

I love shiitake soooo much! Watching your video inspired me so much! Have you ever sauté the fresh ones with sliced pork and carrots with a little bit of soy sauce? They are sooo yummy

I love them too, and use them in just about all I can. We sauteed some last night with onions and pork tenderloin. It was divine!
