  • After a year of waiting for the shiitake mushroom spore to colonize the oak logs, I flush them by soaking them in rainwater and then watching the mushrooms grow. Amazing!

Lovely to see you back on my screen!! (GSz) By the way big thanks for your input (the mix ratio, sand, cement prtlite) much appreciated!!
I did get a suggestion of 5 parts Perlite, 1 part cement, 2 parts sand and 4 parts aggregate!!
It's great having all these clever people near at hand 😁😁😁.
There was a time, here in the UK, when I didn't have to look at the calendar to check it was Saturday 😁😁. If you were on my screen I knew it was Saturday 😁😁.
    The good old days!! 😁😁
Yes I do understand you are a very busy man!!
Keep the good work up!! It's excellent!!
Perhaps you could take us for a ride on your trains another time 😁😁
All the very best to you and yours!!❤️

I talked to a man who grows shiitakes, and he told me he uses hornbeam rather than oak, because they take less time to get inoculated.

What a great video! I love that you always follow up and show progress when you have a long-term project!!! It is a pet peeve of mine on other channels when they start a great project and then they never follow up on it!
This makes me want to go out and grow some mushrooms. I can get the materials but my current living situation limits my ability to have large projects in the works. Notdisscuoraged though I am taking notes and making plans, one day I will put all my squirreled away knowledge into practice!

Hi Pattie! Thank you for the feedback. If you’re interested (and because you are a charter member), I’ll mail you the little chunk mushroom log. It would give you a chance to dabble in some mushroom farming. If you are interested, email your address to tom at greenshortz dot com. (Don’t put your address here). Thank you for the support.

They realy need to be in a cool semi dark place and kept watered like a plant maybe build a small closet like dark room with the inside covered in plastic and an 8 inch deep tub at the bottom where the logs are suspending (not sitting)in the water by string or weed eater line anything but metal or copper wire. Also using a spray bottle or mister once a day helps keep them moist. It's all about humidity. 👈🤓👈

Cool to see the mushrooms growing over the course of a few days. Would like to see them after cooking and a taste test!
BTW, how's the rain barrel that you buried by the greenhouse working out?

    • @GreenShortzDIY
      @GreenShortzDIY  2 года назад +1

Rain barrel is doing great. I take the roof off for the summer, to let the beds get watered. Only the metal gutter has kept the barrel full. The funny thing is, my wife doesn’t like mushrooms. I need to learn how to cook with them. I have been making Cashew Chicken lately. Will have sneak in some shrooms. Thank you for watching.

Would it help to spray the vertical logs with rainwater as the mushrooms form allowing for greater harvest? You sir are a wealth of diverse skills and insight. Thanks for sharing this video.
Wishing you and your family another blessed week. Peace brother.

It is important to keep the mushrooms dry while they are forming. Maybe a slow drip system. Or I just need to do the sand method. Thank you for watching. Peace brother.

    hey, hey, hey!
I know it's been a while since I wrote a comment, but it's hard to believe it's been a year since the inoculation of these logs!!
    Wowzer!!
Looking back, I'm not sure if these past 12 months have gone by quickly...
or if it has been painfully slow?
    Maybe both? 🤷🏼‍♀️
    Either way, it's nice to see some shrooms growing!!! 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄 🍄
Is there going to be part 3.
    "Eating Mushrooms I Grew" ?
Or how about a time-lapse under the tarp!?
    Or maybe...
    What happens under the tarp,
    STAYS under the tarp.

Does having standing water provide a harbor for mosquitoes? Did you use any netting to prevent that? Never mind I commented too soon.

All mushrooms on logs must be grown outside or can they be in the house? Thank you

    • @GreenShortzDIY
      @GreenShortzDIY  Год назад

I think they can be grown inside. You’ll want to make sure they’re getting enough moisture. I haven’t tried this, but I’m sure someone on RUclips has made a video about this. Thank you for watching.

Soak it before you cook if it's dry.
