“I don’t think I’ve seen Uma Thurman in any other movie” 15 seconds earlier she says how she has watched pulp fiction haha
I giggled at that.
Well, you know, there _was_ that black wig...
😂
She was Brunette in PULP FICTION. The Clark Kent effect.
@clodualdobbeojr5744 you guys joke, but you can't act like she didn't look and act COMPLETELY differently
'Hugh Hefner of these killer Playboy Girls'
Honestly, that's one of the best descriptions of Bill and the gang I've ever heard
Bill’s mentor was an evil pimp lol. Harley anyone realizes the anime guy with the sword who killed O-REN ishii’s dad was a young Bill.
@@bigmikem1578 He was killed by a guy named Riki. She would've recognized Bill
Pretty much. :D
@@bigmikem1578It's not Bill. Tarantino shot down that theory.
There was a Japanese classic movie, where they filmed a stunt with fake blood and a sword. BUT - they put too much pressure on the fake blood (like over inflating a car tire). So when they filmed it, there was a HUGE spray of blood, and all the actors had shocked faces because it was unexpected.
It became a standard, especially in Japanese movies. So Quentin Tarantino uses it too.
That was Sanjuro. Yojimbo and Sanjuro would mage good reactions too.
for stylization i'd say this is his bets film. I really think if he would have done the 1960s style Star Trek it would have been a runner up. Feels like something he could really dive into and immerse himself in
14:00 “how could a cartoon be so yucky?”
Oh my sweet summer child 😂❤🫶🏼
Obligatory Fun Fact: O-Ren says, in Japanese, "I hope you saved your energy. If you haven't you may not last 5 minutes." From the moment that O-Ren steps forward and the music kicks in, it's exactly 4 minutes and 59 seconds until the Bride delivers the fatal blow, scalping O-Ren.
Although, the fight scene that ends in an horrific death, the scene in the Japanese garden is to me one of the most cinematically beautiful.
The contrast of the peaceful snowy garden, broken by elegant splashes of blood, against the black & white to bloody carnage of the dance floor makes the House of Blue Leaves sequence one of Tarantino's most visually artistic works.
It's the water feature banging as the only background sound that does it for me.
That is a cool fact that I didn’t know. You should call it that instead of a “fun fact”, which is such a cliche thing people use when they post well known information from Wikipedia. Please, I’m serious. Cool Fact is good, fun fact is tired. Thank you.
Can't believe you made it through this movie...Part 2 is a must now.

It's funny because my wife really doesn't like movies with a lot of blood and violence, but she absolutely loves the Kill Bill series. I laugh because sometime I will catch her watching it without me. There is just something about this movie for her.
Hatori Hanzo is played by Sonny Chiba. The man is a legend in the martial arts film world. Sadly he passed away from covid in 2021.
He was a kind of Japanese Shaft or Bruce Willis. Great Man. I mean MAN. The real Hattori Hanzo was a real ultimate Warrior and lived 1542 to 1597.
He passed away! Aw man, I didn't know!😢😢
And his assistant is played by Kenji Ohba a famous toku actor and stuntman.
Oh no! I hate covid.
Definitely watch Vol 2. The violence and gore are much more toned down. Also I feel like it’s a more human story and you get more into actual characterization and motives. It’s a satisfying conclusion for sure.
The action is better in Vol 1, but the story is better in Vol 2. I think she'll really like Vol 2.
Its not hard to shed a tear a couple time in Vol. 2
Decent conclusion but a part 3 is kind of a must to see the little girl out for revenge. I know he has his strict film limit and says he will be done but there needs to be full closure for some of these characters like the young children.
I definitely don't remember as much blood in Part 2. But there is some brutality in it. The finish of the Elle fight comes to mind. Not any worse than what we saw in this movie though.
I say check out Shogun Assassin - the flick that THIS one pretty much IMITATES (with the violence and gore anyway).
You NEED to see part two! It's not even close to being as violent as the first, so you'll like that. And it wraps the story up. There's nothing else to watch after it, part 2 is the end, and a lot of people like it more than the first.
You made it through the toughest, grossest parts, part 2 will be much easier, and more emotional. Do yourself, and all of us, a favor and watch part 2!
second that. not to bury the lead
I think she'll like it much more. It has many more of the emotions cassie resonates with like love, both romantic and maternal. It also has more quiet, contemplative scenes and really great dialogue.
Completely agree! These 2 movies( Vol. 1 and 2) are my favorite Tarantino movie( I like to think of them as one movie)
@@nickscholz6559they were filmed as one movie so it makes sense.
Yeah, I liked part 2 better.
MOVIE FACT-the reason the sword scene randomly switched to Black and White was to avoid an NC-17 rating for violence/blood
Sometimes, I cannot believe what an absolute trooper Cassie is and how far she's come.
Kill Bill Vol. 2 is great and has a very satisfying ending!
Volume 2 is boring
The analogy of Bill as an evil Charlie (of Charlie's Angels) is pretty spot on.
lol
i never thought of it like that until now, pretty hilarious and accurate description
And he’s got the fox force 5 like the pilot Mia was in in pulp fiction
This movie was conceived from a conversation between Tarantino and Uma Thurman on the set of Pulp Fiction. They were discussing what a Fox Force Five movie would be like. That's why at the end of Vol. 2 it says "based on characters created by Q and U".
The analogy of him as the Hugh Hefner to Playboy girl assassins is also pretty accurate.
When she walks through the Tokyo airport, she walks past a billboard for Red Apple cigarettes. In Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, Leonardo DiCaprio's character advertsises the same brand.
@pobstrel Butch (Bruce Willis )smokes those in Pulp Fiction and i noticed them in Inglourious Basterds and Django Unchained as well ... there are things that tie all his movies together QT has said his movies do all somehow take place in the same universe .
I think it's important to point out, Cassie said the phrase "Cave Man Balls" in a sentence.
"One more thing, Sofie... is she aware her daughter is still alive?"
BOOM! That's how you do a cliffhanger!! 😎
Fun Fact: Despite being bleeped out in the film, the name of The Bride (Uma Thurman) is revealed on her plane tickets.
Batter-Up Fact: The shot where the Bride splits a baseball in two with a samurai sword was done for real on the set. It was done by Zoë Bell, Uma Thurman's stunt double.
Boom! Head Shot! Fact: When Chiaki Kuriyama (Gogo) was shooting the scene where she flings her ball and chain out, she accidentally hit Quentin Tarantino on the head as he stood by the camera.
Casting Notes Fact: Quentin Tarantino originally intended to cast a Japanese actress to play O-Ren Ishii, but before casting began, he saw Lucy Liu's work in Shanghai Noon (2000) and immediately changed O-Ren into a Chinese-Japanese-American, so that Liu could play the part.
Zoë Bell, star of D E A T H P R O O F !!!
Uma Thurman danced with John Travolta in “Pulp Fiction.” “Kill Bill” vol I&2 are QT’s masterpieces.
Kobe Bryant started calling himself, Black Mamba, The Bride's codename, after watching Kill Bill. This movie is responsible for him marketing himself that way, and well known mantras like, "Mamba Mentality" originated from that.
Kobe got his mantle from a white girl starring in a movie made by the whitest director in history?
"i thought that was Kobe Bryants name" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 i love this girl
This film is Tarantino's homage to his favorite Japanese films. The sequel is his homage to his love of Sergio Leone and Spaghetti Westerns. So it's significantly less bloody. He used actors and characters famous in Japanese film. Sonny Chiba, Gordon Liu, the films of Kurosawa and the Shaw Brothers, Bruce Lee. All of them have a home here. There's a *deep* rabbit hole of culture to drop into learning where all the parts of this film came from. And I hope you make the drop. It's worth it.
Agreed. I think most of that will go over her head. After watching the reaction, it's clear she doesn't really clock to the cinematic nods and Tarantino's influences. But, it's too be expected if you're not a fan or have gone back to experience a lot of the seminal cinema of the 50's, 60's, and 70's that influence Tarantino's work.
I'll admit that I didn't clock a lot of the references when I first saw these films. And it was these films that sparked my interest. I raided the local video stores and developed a new appreciation for both films foreign to me and the history of film in general. @@awilywolf
@@awilywolfexactly
Japanese AND Hong Kong films as you point out with the Shaw Brothers and Gordon Liu.
When she realizes how violent the movie is...
"You didn't think it was gonna be that easy, did you?"
"Ya know? For a second there.. yeah, I kinda did."
DAAA DAAA DAAAAAA!!!
And a lot of foot shots
"Silly Cassie. Tricks are for kids."
Theatrical release viewing...
Bill: Is she aware her daughter is still alive?
Me (very much out loud): Oh SHIT!
...many giggles from the crowd.
Volume 2 was actually never a separate 2nd half to begin with. Originally Kill Bill was going to be released as one movie, but because it was so long they had to divide the movie into 2 separate releases which is why it's volume 1 and volume 2. Volume 2 is more themed to homage Italian Westerns of the 60s, while volume 1 is a nod to 70s samurai films and other bits of Asian cinema culture. Both Italian Westerns and older Samurai film genres have cinematic similarities in their narrative.
Poor Cassie, we do put her through it! Great reaction Cassie

Wait, as in six months, as we did between releases?
as ridiculous as the story is I think KB 1 & 2 are two of the most beautifully shot movies of all time. i really think every frame along with the score is a work of art. the end fight with o'ren is about as perfect as a piece of film could be.
26:21 No coincidence that it reminded you of that since this film and its sequel have the same fight choreographer as Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (plus The Matrix trilogy): Yuen Woo-ping.
Your observation about the blood being so over-the-top that it actually makes it less shocking is very true. This is something Christopher Nolan talked about when making the Dark Knight. There is a reason they made Harvey/Two-Face's burned face so crazy. They found when they actually dialed it back and made it less wild, it made it more horrifying because it seemed more realistic.
Cassie, thank you so much for watching this movie! And yes, I do believe that Volume 2 will satisfy you. ("Beeeep") continues to kick butt, but I am sure that you guessed that already.

Well, since clearly no one has recommended them: I suggest you add Akira & Perfect Blue to the “to watch” list.
Yes, part 2 is a must. And soon, while this one is fresh in the memory. I wish they'd released it as 1 big epic
You can find Kill Bill the Whole Bloody Affair if you look hard enough. There are a few differences from the version that Cassie watches that I won't spoil.
Imagine not watching part 2! It is one film split into two volumes
I’m glad she’s still interested in seeing vol. 2 because it’ll be more up her alley. The second half is almost an antidote to the first half: more character development, more heart, less action, less gore. It literally has some of her favorite movie things, none of which I’ll reference here so I don’t ruin it for her.
" Stop calling her Kiddo" lol
I love this movie, and it came back to me once in an odd way. About a decade ago I had a severe car accident, and when I woke up after surgery I was told that, among other injuries I had a broken neck. In my fuzzy state all I thought was Uma Thurman telling me to "wiggle your big toe." The relief I had upon succeeding was incredible - no spinal cord injury and have since made a full recovery, if anyone wonders. Thanks for hitting yet another of my favorites, this channel just gets better and better.
I can tell this is not really your kind of movie, because of the violence and stuff, but I can at least say that Part 2 is less brutal and less bloody and more focused on characters, so I think you will like it more, and I think you will be satisfied with the ending. Definitely want to see that reaction, please!
I concur on both points - the gore is nowhere near as bad and the story in Vol 2 is much better.
When I saw the thumbnail, my first thought was "Oh this poor woman". Cassie deserves the honorary title of yellow-haired warrior for making it through this.
Gogo's weapon is called a mereor hammer. They usually have a much smaller weight on the end, and the extendable saw blades on this one are pure fantasy.
That look of shock on your face when Bill revealed that the Bride's daughter is still alive....
I just love how when you're talking about a movie with some friends the day before or anything really, it just magically appears in your feed the next day.
Uma was in "Pulp Fiction". You made it through this one so part 2 will be a piece of cake. I didn't figure you would like the violence in this one, but you held up pretty well. I'd say you have come a long way. lol
She's right though the fact that the violence in this movie is SO over the top, makes it easy to remember that it's not real. The kind of violence that's in the war movies as a counter example is much harder.

You've been strong throughout this film and frankly I'm proud of you. You've hidden your face in blankets and what not for a lot less gory stuff than Kill Bill Vol. 1, which you didn't do during this watch-along and your face at the cliffhanger reveal at the end tells us that you're well enough enticed by the story to carry on through Vol. 2. I promise when you've watched "the whole bloody affair", you'll be happy you did, because Vol. 2 will give you the answers to all the questions you've, quite astutely I might add, asked during this one.
Not to say, Kill Bill was originally supposed to be one single film, so you would really miss out on the resolution of what I consider to be one of the greatest revenge stories ever written! I'm inclined to say you may actually love the complete story a lot after you've watched it all and you might even rewatch the whole thing again at later points in time.

The trouble with Vol 2 is Tarantino gets so overly indulgent with the script & dialogue at times, characters doing lengthy monologue-ing in self-referential Tarantino style, as though he's showing off how much of a comic book/exploitation/revenge/manga nerd he is. I think Cass will enjoy it more because it's less gory, and I do rather enjoy it myself, but it is let down by Tarantino being allowed to be too...Tarantino. He needs to know when to rein it in.
@@JackRabbitSlimdisagree completely. The monologues are fantastic. If anything, part 1 is indulgent with all the cartoonish gore.
@JackRabbitSlim I disagree. IMO vol 2 is the stronger half of the movie. Vol 1 has better "eye candy" but Vol 2 is better in every other way (again just my opinion). Vol 2 does require more patience but it's worth it! That being said, both are great and I hope one day Tarantino release them as a single film with the added scenes.

Go Go's weapon was a meteor hammer, albeit probably larger than it should be. It was a hard to wield and dangerous weapon, and it is possible it wasn't used in war, but training and duels and such since it takes a lot of space to wield. Using the legs and neck like Go Go did were ways to quickly change the direction of the hammer.
Kobi Bryant got his nickname from this movie. I love ur reactions. Glad I subscribed to your channel. Keep on expanding your movie horizons. There are so many great movies out there and Kill Bill as you can see, is a classic
The “skinny guy” with the ring in Oren’s flash back is Bill. 😂😂 Bill killed her dad.
Both Kill Bill films are my favorite of Tarantino’s work. Knowing how you are a self-described romcom gal, especially in years past, this is one of those occasions where I think your younger self would be particularly horrified to know that this is a movie you’ve decided to watch. Hope you enjoyed it, Cassie.
But surely, Kill Bill IS a RomCom?
It's one film, they just chopped it in half
Why?
It's a love story.
Like Deadpool. 😂
I have never clicked so fast for a reaction such as this one lol. Quentin Tarantino is so graphic & extreme & I just knew you'd be climbing the walls in shock. Anyway, this half of the movie is highly violent with exaggerated action sequences but volume 2 has not as much action just mostly dialog. Great reaction, looking forward to Kill Bill 2. Lots of respects 🙏 ❤
"Are they ever going to show us his face?"
Well done you! So many reactors seem to think Budd is Bill when they see him at the end there.
Watched this movie a billion times, but only just picked up at 17:50, when you hear the glass breaking, thats his assistant dropping the sake ALSO being shocked at hearing the name
For the record Uma Thurman was in Pulp Fiction, which you just mentioned except she had dark hair in that one
In “Pulp Fiction”, Mia Wallace, played by Uma Thurman, tells Vincent Vega, played by John Travolta, about a TV pilot she acted in called “Fox Force Five”. The show was about a team of female secret agents, and Mia played the role of Raven McCoy, the deadliest woman in the world with a knife, who was raised by circus performers and knew a zillion old jokes that her grandfather, an old vaudevillian, taught her. Although the show is not "Kill Bill", I think Tarantino was telling us the idea he had at that time.
It's simply adorable how invested you get in these movies. I can see that someone's already pointed out that Uma Thurman was in Pulp Fiction, which you watched. I was eager to watch your reaction to Kill Bill Part 2 and then I realize that you just posted this one two days ago. Yes, I think Kill Bill 2 was very satisfying. I like it even more; I'm guessing you will too. There's a much better balance between the stylized action/violence and the dialogue, which is often so deliberately overwrought in its dramatized gravity. You'll see Bill at length and knowing what sorts of things move you, I'm betting you'll feel a lot of overdue relief. By the way, I cried watching your It's A Wonderful Life reaction. You seem to really absorb details that other people might not pick up on until a fourth or fifth viewing. Your channel is excellent.
The funny thing is is that Kill Bill is so much better, for me, because the violence is so much more cartoonish and overstated that it becomes distinctly less real unlike the violence in a lot of other Tarantino movies. Poor Cassie.
Out of all the classic films Tarantino made, this to me was his best work. Both volumes actually, but volume 1 in particular. It was his tribute to Japanese action movies from the '70s and '80s. The first time I saw it in a theater, I thought it was an instant masterpiece. The cinematography, the fight sequences, the music, the way he used animation to tell O-ren's origin story; I love everything about this movie!
Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, and Kill Bills are my favourite Tarantino films. Since you've watched Pulp Fiction you've seen Uma Thurman. She was Mia Wallace.
21:31 it was in this moment Cassie has fully disassociated from reality, and is watching the decapitation and spraying of blood with a stoic yet melancholy expression
There should be a one year lock-out on Vol 2.
Anyone that didn't have to wait like we did should count themselves VERY lucky.
lol, with that said...another great PIB reaction.
Great reaction video! Youll be happy to know that Vol 2 of Kill Bill is tamer with the violence in quantity and exaggeration, still has it's violent moments but it's more dialogue-driven and it keeps the interest more because it's the conclusion, it explains, answers questions and faces the Bride with reality.
"I thought that was Kobe Bryant's name" 😂
Cassie: "Stop with the spraying!"
Tarantino: "No."
These films are amazingly made! It's hard to describe but they are part Samurai/Eastern film and part Western/Cowboy almost film wise. Very unique style, very fitting for Quinten Tarentino. Please watch part 2! You'll love it! Not as bloody (although there still is some blood) and has a great conclusion
You just saw Khan say that the old Klingon Proverb "Revenge is a dish best served cold" lol.
You're our yellow haired warrior for getting through this....vol2 is fantastic.
Great reaction. 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Great reaction! The animated scene is a Japanese style called Anime. When it first introduced in America, many believed it was for kids because it was animation, but over time, they noticed... it was not always the case. I think Akira blew many Americans away to the depth of story and how gory it was...
The exessive blood spraying was actually an accident in the 1962 movie "Sanjuro" where there was a mechanical failure to just leak out some blood... but the director loved the exaggerated blood. It since then became a staple in Japanese movies and some anime.
Very much QT's homage to the styles of Asian Cinema, - chop sockey, anime, pretty much every trope you find across the range of films made overseas as well as capitalizing on 1970s American TV; he just threw everything in with the kitchen sink. With Vol 2 he takes us down another rabbit hole of cinema styles which is why I enjoy these two films so much - it's a time capsule of movie making through the decades.
A lot of his movies seem like a mish mash of all the stuff he was obsessed with growing up. Did find it kind of odd that he threw Bruce Lee under the bus though.
I really loved your intro to this video, about breaking out of a comfort zone and letting a movie make you feel sad, or angry, or even scared, or think about something differently. I first ran into your channel when you watched Chernobyl, because no one in my real life was watching it, couldn’t talk about it with anyone, and I just wanted to see if someone else felt as impacted by it.
So I think Popcorn In Bed is wonderful! Keep pushing your boundaries; it’s a great resource for some of us who don’t have people to watch movies with and discuss them.
Volume 2 is a must-watch. If you’ve made it past the Crazy 88, you can handle any violence Vol 2 throws your way. If you end the first one wanting to see the storylines all resolve, then you’ve gotta finish it!
Elle Driver scene is worse than anything that happens in 1. That one haunted me for years, while I could easily watch KB1 over and over.
@@Virtuasamsara I meant more from a wall-to-wall gore sense. But the Elle Driver scene is perhaps the most psychologically scarring for me
Black Mamba "I thought that was Kobe Bryant's name?" I love Cassie!!!
Oh my goodness, THIS isn't going to go down well... I'm both looking forward to seeing this reaction whilst dreading how it makes Cassie feel... 😟
Cassie's innocence is a precious thing. It's a rarity.
Same, I have to deal with dinner, then I can take in this reaction.
😂
Same! Considering I find ‘parts’ of this film to be a black comedy I think Cassie might not find it as funny as I do
LoL You all talk about her like she’s this fragile little thing. She’s watched movies with more blood and more violence than this. Plus, I think most of her “reactions” are just for show.
Why ? No Bills are hurt in the making of this movie. Should be all good 😂
In Tarantino's universe, some movies are supposed to be in the "real" world, and some are the fiction that the people in his real world would watch. If the people in Pulp Fiction went to see a movie, this would be that movie. The star isn't Uma Therman, it's Mia Wallace in a movie inspired by her pilot Fox Force Five.
it’s not mia
"Stop calling her Kiddo" LOL 😆
She's going to get real surprised in part 2
Gogo's weapon is a flail, although flails generally have a handle attached to them, it's rare to see them used by simply holding the chain as she does.
The music in this is great. FYI, the actress who plays Gogo was also in the classic film Battle Royale.
Cassie, you will really like Vol II. It's more of character-development, a little less slash-em-up killing. It's incredible, actually. You will really like it!
An all-time classic, with so many references and homages to older action movies. I've always loved the flamenco music that plays during the start of the final fight. It's actually part of the instrumental section of a song called Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood by Saint Esmeralda, which is over 10 minutes long. It's been on my jogging playlist for about two decades.
Santa Esmerelda covered this old song by Eric Burden and the Animals in the late '60s, who in turn covered Nina Simone's version.
The first song, "Bang Bang" was sung by Nancy Sinatra, daughter of Frank. She sounds suicidal in this. Later covered by Cher, who sounds homicidal.
Cassie: 😨 "Would you stop with the spraying!?".. (of blood) (Right before the huge battle scene with the crazy 88's)
Me: 🤣🤣🤣
Please watch volume 2!!! Your questions will be answered and yes you will be satisfied. 😊
I think a Tarantino film you might like is Jackie Brown. It's the only film he directed that wasn't his original idea. It's based on an Elmore Leonard novel and has little to almost no gore and violence. Actually one of my favorite films of his. Great cast too.
There are few things I want in this world right now more than seeing your reaction to part 2. I think you're going to LOVE how it ends.
One really bad fight but overall much less severe on the violence.
I watch your reactions here and then for years now and remember when I saw your very early reactions. And I usually get back to watch your reaction where most people (me included) watch them like... comics. All the brutality and violence and absurdity is seen as a surreal joke and the usual feeling is "whoaaa - how cool is that".
But then I see those movies through your eyes and my "normal" feelings get activated and I notice the brutality is so disturbing if you take it for real. The experience turns into a bitter and frightened experience where you stumble over these absurdities for a second but... the overall disturbance is just very very deep.
Its very healthy that you can trigger my "normal" feelings when I rewatch these movies. No idea how you are doing it... and I somehow even feel guilty that you get "through" this disturbing experience and I "use" it to trigger realistic reaction feelings... but I am very thankful that you are doing this 🙂
Wish you still all the best in your life and for your channel.
This is a brave move by Cassie and a smart call not having Carly along (pretty sure that she might both barf and cry).
These films only rank in the middle of the Tarantino-Verse for me, but since he's in my Top 3 Filmmakers, they're still better than mostly everything else out there.
I enjoy them more with each subsequent rewatch. Such a detailed...tapestry, if you will. Many things I notice each time, the most surprising...spoiler alert for anyone not finished with part 2. She doesn't actually kill bill. Tarantino is brilliant and I missed it the first few times, but I guarantee that the ending is not what it seems to be.
It would have been nice to see our blonde duo watch the Kill Bill blondes but Carly probably would have fainted. I actually never realized how bad it is on the squeamish until watching Cassie react to each act of violence. I was desensitized way before this movie.
