Remarkable 2 vs Sony DPT Digital Paper

- The Sony Digital Paper is 13.3 inches and will read A4 documents, basically a 8x11 piece of paper, it takes notes and only reads PDF files. The Remarkable 2 has a 10.3 inch screen and will read A5 documents. It not only reads PDF files, but EPUB ebooks too. Both of these are great to draw on and both rely on apps to transfer data to your PC/MAC and also send files to it.
This comparison video will give you a sense on what product might be better for your workflow. We take a look at the UI, writing experience, drawing and viewing/editing PDF files.

Thank you so much everyone! Наука
Just got my reMarkable 2 after over a month of wait... and I have to say, it's really worth it... It does what i need the best: writing notes at work and while listening to audiobooks. Bear in mind the software for the reMarkable is updating quickly. Buy the best tech, not the best firmware. The latter can improve continuously, not the former.
What do you mean by not the best firmware?
Does it support DocuSign?
The long awaited video, thank you for this good review, covered everything I was looking for, I think it would be great if there is a 13 inch version of remarkable
I was waiting forever for this
love both devices really, hope they keep improving
You say, the black marker with the eraser functionality for the rM2 is an additional 70 $. But that is not true due to the information on the rM-webpage. You only have to pay the difference between the price of the standard marker and the price of the black marker, because you’ll need one or the other in any case. The difference is 50 $, not 70 $.
I guess im asking randomly but does anybody know a method to log back into an instagram account?
I stupidly forgot the password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me!
@Blake Bjorn Instablaster :)
@Felipe Brock i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site through google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Felipe Brock it did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
@Blake Bjorn Happy to help =)
Even for me both are so expensive 😔, I love your chanel hello from México 🇲🇽
Remarkable 2 for me.
just comparing the DPT with the remarkable 2 makes this device incredible, DPT launched years ago while the remarkable launched a few weeks ago
Goodreader you seemed partial to the Sony, yet it seems most everyone in the comments are still leaning towards the remarkable. The pen on the Sony looked a little clunky and the remarkable honestly seemed a bit more refined. You also mentioned the cost of the pen on the remarkable being an additional $70, however you didn't mention the Sony's pricetag is almost $200 more for a product that is 5 years older.
Oh not only that. The DPT (1st Gen) is HORRIBLE for drawing, rather unusable because it is an active solution - you have to hold the pen at a certain angle. This is a No No…
An interesting comparison. The Sony makes the R2 look like great value at half the price!
I want a Kindle reader, so and Android device like the Boox looks best to me.
Get the kobo if you want a more open kindle
Hey can you make a video for your recommendation for the best budget E notepad?
The Sony one is so much worse except a few more OS features.
The comparison I wanna see is rM2 vs rM1.
When I download a PDF and want to annotate it, it comes out too small to read on my Remarkabe 1. I imagine the 2 has that same issue. I would think the PDF downloads would be easier to view and take notes on with the bigger sized Sony. Am I correct that the A4 format would show an 8x11 PDF at about normal size.
Your comparison is always awesome with feature specification❤❤❤❤
I seen a review where they showed the app you can download for the remarkable 2 that makes transferring personal files easier. So you don't need a computor or anything to be hooked up to it. Why doesn't anyone mention this!!
You forgot to mentioned remarkable is always updating their software Sony is not making no more e ink
They are also always spying on you and giving your info to the government without resistance. Unless you "turn off" that feature and trust that it really is turned off. Nah sony for me
@@user-hx5hu4wx4k you mean Sony sell your info. Remarkable is new and it has almost no internet technology built in
@@levantateyora9317 Everything you write on the remarkable goes into their cloud service. They explicitly stated that they will have over all your data to the government if requested.
@@user-hx5hu4wx4k every company will do this there are no private companies.. if we want to be really private we must right in paper.. or remarkable but don't turn on wifi
You say some people have had trouble with the Remarkable pen staying attached - really? Only about 20 reviewers have this device and none of the other reviews have said this - on the contrary the videos show the attachment is wonderful, and the pen won’t fall off. What did you base your comment on?
Not only that people are still wanting for the remarkable so from where he gets this info unless he is just making this up..
@@dpav02 They didn’t say what you quote either! If you want to quote literally, which I obviously wasn’t, they said “it sometimes doesn’t stick very well”. If the statement was just based on their own experience they should have made clear it was just them, and explained why it didn’t stick for them - another reviewer shows it takes a much harder shake to make it come off than you would get in normal use. It seems to me that Goodereader’s review is misleading.
Kinda funny... because I HAD the dpt-rp1, and the stylus falls off the device VERY easily. That “guide rail” is worthless without stronger magnets. On top of that, ZERO pressure sensitivity... and why would you want a metal body? Are you TRYING to scratch your screen?
The Sony seems like it’d be okay for professional use, but the Remarkable seems way easier to use and the pressure sensitivity is a must have for me.
The Sony Pencil is unusable for drawing. You have to hold it at a certain degree; else you will get not straight lines or the lines don’t appear exact under your nib but rather next to it. No ******** reviewer has said that ever. >:-(
I have a question about where can i repair my ereader sony dpt rp1 , i have a problem of no response of touchscreen (after using another cable usb for charging it ,for one time (not original cable sony)
Thank you for video comparison. Sony seems to be a user friendly device for note taking and e-reading.
I see in one of your replies you said that we can buy remarkable from you. Could you share the details on how can we do this?
Can you help shipping the Remarkable 2 in India from your website?
please make review for sudent e ink tablet!
thank you!
i have a question: it's possible use the Sony DPT-RP1's pen on the remarkable?
they are not compatible
I don't know why remarkable do not make 13.3in/letter size tablet. Do you have any information about new tablet? I sold my DPT RP1 for $550 as I wish to wait for a newer model, but now even for RP1. I cannot get one, facepalm. Using an iPad Pro, wait and see. Sad
Sony already give up Eink market, that's why there will be no new product any more
Excellent assessment. I am a fan of Onyx Boox devices, will the Sony stylus work with that range, do you know?
I like remarkable
I've always loved Sony, however their device was lacking. Even though it had some amazing features, there were still too many cons for me. The RM2 was it for me, and I was ok upgrading the stylus. The RM2 had cons for sure (the price being one of them), but for me the pros outweighed the cons... which was the complete opposite for Sonys device.
What stylus do you prefer?
@@JHNelson17 RM2 only because I dont have to charge the damn thing.
Is possible on Remarkable 2 to split the screen as on Sony device? I don't understand good english, Sorry me.
No, it's only in the Sony device.
@@moisesmaciel5123 thank you so much!
The remarkable for its 2nd version should have offered color.
There will likely be a ReMarkable Color totally separate line of products.
I like to buy boox air note 3 for web browsing and pdf reading. BUT there s this feeling that it would break within 3 years whereas sony seems a lot more durable.
If notion worked on one it would make the choice easy
Haha the eraser ✏️... less bottoms is more, less battery usage is more. Literally RM2 is like to have a pen and a paper. No much energy to use it . Simple and functional
I noticed remarkable screen is more white than Sony. Sonny's looks yellowish. However it is not a big advantage
Haven't Sony now stopped doing their device? It's site only shows accessories and Amazon etc. no longer have it available. Looks like it may have become a one horse race?
I don't think so, on Sony Japan site, the E-Paper still has its own column and dedicated pages, just as always. I personally am waiting fot the 2nd Gen, I hope they support more e-book reading functions, that'll be perfect. After all, Sony devices usually have the best industrial designs imo.
Good comparison makes me think...
Can I get the remarkable in South Africa? Didn't see any African locations on their website.
They dont sell it to Africa. You can buy from us though, we sell worldwide :)
Amazing ❤️
@@goodereader where do I buy from you?
@@goodereader how?
so in the end which one is better?
Which do you prefer? One has features that the other doesn't. I'm an artist, so the Remarkable wins for me.
Interesting that you say the writing experience is better than on the remarkable. Remarkable claims to be the closest thing to paper. Anybody else found that to be true?
Should I cancel my preorder ? It seems like awesome hardware but the software is lack luster .. theres no need for it to be like that with all this time they had
My expectation is that the primary purpose and function of remarkable is to offer a fantastic writing/sketching experience for note taking. And that's exactly what you'll get. Anything else it could do would just be a bonus. If you're wanting a Android-like tablet with multiple functions and an e-ink display, then this ain't for you...and yeah, you should cancel your pre-order.
They haven't updated the software from ReMarkable 1 to 2 yet, even on the 2. The software between them is the same. I would think it would be ridiculous if they don't release a software upgrade specifically for the new model. Github shows it has a ton of potential for significantly more features than have been implemented. It's a small team. After they get the devices out I am sure they can put more effort into the software. I love the print to Remarkable mod. Can't wait to send my pdf's right to it. That and several other mods seem like a must for official implementation.
GOOD E-READER....u always brings exiting things😇
0:15 You don't say "stylusses", the ploral form of "stylus" is "styli"
MK3424 both are ok
Why is it so expensive tho?
Will sonys pen work on the remarkable?
No. Sony's requires charging because it's an active pen versus Remarkable's EMR that's built with Wacom tech. They're two completely different input technologies.
Too bad Sony has a history of abandoning every e-ink device they have ever made :-/ Don't trust the company and they tend to have VERY poor product/customer support.
BooX have you seen it
you should update your video, some of the things you mention Remarkable now charges you a subscription for now.
Yes we very well know. We reported on it before anybody else.
Also, you can't update a video. It's engraved in stone
The Sony one is better imo
Mellyga khha yaa
"twice the number of buttons on every other manufacturers"
bro 2 times zero is still zero
Can Xiaomi make a paper-like tablet to piss off these companies with horrible tablets? Come on all of them have thick bezels and still so expensive
Sony is still best ....
Is she taking charge of the Arab language
Both are toooo overpriced.
1st
first.. ez
The little response delay in Sony is the real downside of it.
Still it seems Remarkable2 is way better than Sony. Absolutely no need for buttoms and charging pen??!! Joke
