I think this review finally gets the point. I don't own a tablet. But the Remarkable is still viable because it has a completely different purpose than these other more complicated tablets like Onyx. The whole point of the Remarkable is that it is focussed on doing anything you can do with paper to replace the paper experience. As soon as you ad in internet surfing, lighting, videos, etc etc you are totally complicating the whole thing -- then why not just use your computer then. No point of a tablet like that in my opinion which is why I never owned one. What I want is something that feels close to paper but that replaces my journal, files, and lists. I'll still uses files, day planner, and journal for some things. But this Remarkable thing looks like it will be practical for consolidating a lot of these uses in certain ways and do it so well it actually organizes live rather than cluttering it with an extra object or device. I'm a minimalist but this looks like it actually merits the addition. Looking forward to trying it. One thing though: how easy is it to export files to email and other devices. If you need to pay them monthly to do that that's a big Downer.
I never regretted buying the remarkable 2. I'm using it daily as I'm writing very much. It was expensive but I've always wanted one since they released the first remarkable. I'm really tempted to buy the typing folio, but I'm missing quite a few functions for typing in their software... For example: I can't use typing in existing notebooks and not in my pdf documents, only in new notebooks. I can't move around types text as freely as handwritten texts and so on. I guess I'll wait if remarkable is gonna fix some of the problems and only buy the folio if they do so.
I found it a bad investment. It is too dark. In 99% of my use cases, the light is nor enough. If you want to use it, especially for reading, you have to be sitting out in the direct sunlight, or have a lamp dirwctly pointed at it, no matter how strong the room light is. THAT is the only single truth about Remarkable 2
@ryandijk2619 I did buy the Type Folio and I enjoy using it, but I'm still missing some functions, eG I want to have the option to have am ending page that doesn't scroll endlessly.
im a writer and i decided to get this over the freewrite line of machines. never had any regrets. Remarkable 2 is an amazing devices whether you are a handwriter or a typewriter.
Yes, and that's the point of the RM2. It's a distraction free alternative for your analog notebook. I'm kind of glad they made a long lasting device that is not replaced by a new upgrade each year. I bought it back in the day as a paper replacement and that's what it does for me. Hopefully for years to come. And because the battery last weeks or months it still as healthy as the day I bought it. The new keyboard is intriguing but still very expensive even with the discount. And I don't know if I want the extra bulk. I love that it is relatively light weight and thin in its original design. And that's what I love about it.
@@bhadams1 : No ; the rM2 has no bluetooth. Neither can you on the regular usb port, as it can't power anything (some people managed with a split usb cable and a battery, but that's rather dodgy). The only useful "usb" port is accessed trough the pogo connector, and only the type folio has that kind of connectivity.
Or you can get a Tab X or Tab Ultra and enjoy more than a disgusting 6.4GB limit for such a device. Ipod touch released in 2008 had more storage. If the company charges you £80 for a pen with an eraser, then it doesn't care about you, and sees you only as a consumer; extortion is extortion. I felt like Remarkable 2 was the only device around, then I had a look around; I want a Tab X now. PS: The Remarkable 2 isn't like paper by the way, it's a plastic screen.
I bought my reMarkable 2 soon after they came out. I use it daily and still love it! Other e-ink tablets seem to be basically tablets. The reMarkable focuses on being a notetaking device and doing it really well.
Just bought a RM2, can't wait to have it! I am already in love with the concept and the execution. Soooo good and exactly what I need, I think sketching on paper all the time and it always ends up disorganized. Simplenote came to help but RM2 is a whole new level of organization.
Mine is due to be delivered tomorrow and I really appreciate the comments in here because I was kinddddd of second guessing my purchase. Can’t wait until it arrive I hope I love it just as much as you all! Also, thank you for deciding to do a review after having it for so long!

Had one and sent it back after 5 weeks for a refund. Writing to text conversion was horrible, and the screen resized randomly when writing. The latter issue they never acknowledged there was a problem really, much less came up with a fix. Yet they kept sending me emails asking where I was with it and asking me to rate their CS. Refund policy was seamless though
Nice content! Am sitting on the fence on getting this. The purpose of my getting is mostly for work, where I need to complete a 4 page checklist to record findings etc and have it uploaded into a server and email a copy to the person I am checking against. Can anyone give some input on this? Thanks

$700 for a 3yrs old tablet. Altough it's a good note taking experience. It sould'nt be this expensive. Plus I'm still pissed about the sub to add google drive to back up your notes...
@Thunderbird1337 See for yourself the link in the description it's $700. I'm sure you can buy it elsewhere for cheaper. But the fact is brand new it's still super expensive.

I just went to remarkable’s site and it was $299 USD (without a pen or folio). Putting together my own bundle still cost under $500. Does the $700 on that site come with enough to justify the price or is it all mark up?

At it's current price-point, the "unRemarkable" tablet should allow me to write an entire novel or script on it, AND export the document to apps like Microsoft Word or Apple Pages. I will not buy one until it can do those things. The company markets this device as a paper replacement. Well, how about trying to live up to the marketing.
I mean I get what you’re saying but normal paper can’t be automatically converted to a word document, so your argument that it isn’t living up to the marketing is flawed
I have the original reMarkable and love it still. The only thing it lacks that I wish it came with is a front light. I admit that it's not for everyone, but if you need to handwrite a LOT, read and write notes on your pdf's & e-books, then this is very much worth the money.
Math major here. I got it for school, too many notebooks in bag. Really like it, saves a lot of space as I usually have several notebooks/binders since math classes are note heavy. Doubt I can afford the keyboard for quite some time e though.
It's the only method I've used for scheduling that has worked for me. I've tried every app or old school paper scheduling. The flexibility of paper rather than the limitations of what an app tells you is possible, combined with copy/paste, layers, resize, undo/redo file organization, and a month long battery (and it feeling like paper and not the Apple pencil on glass) is the perfect combination of the unlimited nature of paper and pencil with the digital benefits.
