Remarkable was always something I wanted, but the price is ridiculous. Now that you have to pay a subscription to use all of its features I have zero interest in getting one. Like zero. Negative zero. I think Ill stick with paper. Its a better writing experience and costs practically nothing.

The Remarkable (1st gen) used to be my absolute favorite until one day the battery died and their customer support told me they don't offer spares or a repair service. Their fancy "paper-like" writing experience really loses its appeal when the display stays blank. At the time I was shocked from the lack of customer support for such a premium priced device from such a small company, but after seeing this video (monthly subscription for basic software) it's pretty clear to me that all they want is to get rich. I'm reluctant to buy a Matepad Paper until some battery swap videos come up on RUclips, but once that happens I'll definitely go Huawei.

I will never buy any device or app that force me to subscripion. And you all shouldn't too. Unfortunately too many people seems to accept some forms of subscription, but it's dengerous. If that trend will continue we will wake up one day without any property fully dependant on corporations and/or governmet will. It started with some apps, than some software features inside phisical devices, now BMW is testing subscription for phisical features of their cars - so legally we will not be owners of our wehicles in the future. What else? Breathing subscription? We all should stop buying stuff that force us to this bad business practices and put a pressure on companies to stop this madness.

Once more Huawei delivers more than expected for less and that's why they are getting squished. I'm typing this on my Good old Mate 20 Pro after Samsung Note 10+, iPhone 12 Pro Max and S22 Ultra I'm back on my almost 99% perfect smartphone ever in terms of design and power a true flagship still in 2022 and it is Huawei Mare 20 Pro. RECOMENDED get an used one while you can find one. Also it just gott Android 12 update. I'm not paid by Huawei or something but after many smartphones flagships no one feels like the Mate 20 not even the latest Mate 30, 40. BTW the Notch on the iPhone's pisses me off they are ugly made even the smallest one in the iPhone 13 but on Mare 20 Pro it doest bother me at all, why ?? Because it is made property and because of the overall design of the phone it is not noticeable. I even suggested to Huawei to get the same design on the Mate 50 Pro but 2022 specs. Also the cameras beat every iPhone until now. So the Huawei Pad sure is AWESOME.

This is just eyecandy tech that is not usable. They included android and any app that android can run, with a display that is not able to. A stock android tablet is better than this. Including everything you have in a sketchbook will not make it better. It's childish.

08:40 Actually, Lamy eraser with the built-in button is not supported in Remarkable by default, you need to add an extra-hack for it via the console from PC, which will last only until the next device reboot (unless you want to ditch the official firmware and install the customized one). Also, Lamy pen has a small issue with the tiny line of writing surface on the right edge on my RM2, the pressure is always weaker there for some reason. Overall, Marker and Marker+ deliver the best writing experience on RM2.

Auch. I know Good e-reader is critical to rM2, but "Not a viable product" is even more than usual. However, as a user of rM2, I totally agree with this video on rM2 and never recommend anyone new to rM2 mostly because of the subscription situation.

    • @5pm_Hazyblue
      @5pm_Hazyblue 2 года назад +3

speaking of note-taking, handwriting and whatnot, rM2 is nothing more than a brick when it comes to non-roman alphabets. It does not recognize your non-alphabetic writing and what it worse It does not render epub if it is not in a roman alphabet (even with fonts contained).

@@5pm_Hazyblue I wouldn’t worry about that. It’s not overtly different to what you already have with Google, Apple, Facebook and Microsoft. Truth is you aren’t special enough for the Chinese government to specifically care about what you do or who you are.
Unless you are an anti China activist with a really big following, it’s really not an issue.

I have an RM2 and I love it, but I also got in before the subscription model and b/c of the referral program my tablet ended up being free. Would I get it again today if I was shopping for an eink tablet... I honestly don't know. Boox and supernote both have come a long way. When I bought my RM2 I was most concerned with feel and latency, and at the time the RM2 was far ahead on both, now it's pretty much even. I know I wouldn't go with Huawei though, security is too big of a concern. I do like that there is more competition in the eink tablet arena though and look forward to see what is out there in a couple of years.

Quite frustrating for me as somebody who is looking for a 10-inch or more e-reader. I had a Kindle 10 years ago which was cheap and fine for pdfs and (if I remember correcty) epubs. Coming back to the market this much later, as somebody who simply wants to read large PDF files, to see that nothing worth having is less than €400, and is still likely to have lots of issues, is disappointing to say the least!

I own a ReMarkable 2, I personally never use the pen tilting feature and very very rarely do I use the pressure sensitive pens. 99% of the time, I'm using a pen that doesn't use tilt or pressure, so that I don't have to use almost any force to write and thus also saving in the tip of the pen. When I say pen I mean the software option on ReMarkable, not actually a different pen. I just use the ReMarkable Pro pen. Also the tips aren't that cheap either...

Can anyone guide me to a good Boox Note Air 2 (or plus) vs. Huawei Matepad Paper comparison? Seems like that would be a more apple to apple comparison. Particularly an objective review on the pen and battery life aspects are something I am very interested in.

    • @ishehroze
      @ishehroze 2 года назад +2

Let me first share what I do know (credits mostly to CME:XP RUclips channel):
      - Matepad paper has theoretically better specs but higher specs might lead to unnecessary battery consumption.
      - Matepad paper is front-lit and the light is impressively uniform
      - Matepad will win in aesthetic department in both hardware design and UI
      - Matepad paper uses a proprietary pen rather than a wacom one... This part is covered well in this video. However, there is still some objective review required for the latency and writing feeling i.e. if the Huawei pen is any good compared to the out of the box pen from Note Air 2.
      - Matepad's display is probably more crisp than Note Air 2 but I doubt if there is any good reader that can beat Neoreader from Boox
      What I don't know:
      - Does ADB work on Harmony OS for using with scrcpy?
      - How does one note/Evernote perform on Matepad paper?
      - Usability and feasibility of the nibs from Matepad paper (covered to a little extent in this video but a little more details may be desirable as this is the only real deal maker/breaker) rest can be dealt with incremental firmware updates
      - Does the increased battery capacity practically translate into increased battery life with the active stylus, constant Bluetooth connection, and a more power intensive (I think) CPU taken into consideration?
      - A prognosis maybe? Is Huawei invested in making the experience better and answer users or this is just an experiment with a different technology waiting to be scrapped off from the company's roadmap.

I bought both, for writing experience ,Matepad Paper has better feeling and lower latency according to Boox Air 2 plus and better overall material quality.

I'm intrigued by the writing input method. I can imagine two input pathways.. Does anyone know?
    1. the pen contact point is detected by the digitiser, and the data is sent to the OS which then tells the app to create a data point. i.e. traditional input method.
    2. the pen contact causes the e-ink cells to change colour directly, and some kind of digitiser layer feeds the contact points through the OS to the app, which is then recorded in the file.
The second method would allow for a much more responsive input experience, but I don't know if it's physically practical.

@@goodereader i can't understand fundamental things, such as, for example:
      1) can you write by placing your palm on the screen? does the palm create a disturbance? ruin the screen etc?
      2) how can you cancel? is it comfortable, fast?
      3) while I'm writing what happens when the page ends and you want to turn the page? how fast is the "page turn"?
      4) once I create a file, after it is saved, can I later delete a few lines of text or it is seen as an image? i mean: can I work on/ edit a text document I have previously created?
      5) how long does the screen last? tends to get scratched/ruined writing for a long time?
      6) is it possible to create folders and subfolders for created files?
      7) is there a copy and paste function (to a document to another)?
      8) you can open multiple tabs and browse them (like on android)?
      9) can bookmarks be created in handwritten documents and books?
      10) are there any functions to quickly export underlines or notes taken in a book?
I share the philosophy of the remarkable, just writing and reading, no browser, no app etc but, in my opinion, it's too small.
I am worried that other devices, having other functions, will lose something in the fundamental functions of writing and reading.
in the reviews you should show a lot more things, related to the actual use that would be made of the device.
in the end I would be more interested in an e-notebook and therefore to the functions inherent to this, rather than audio, video, etc.
